Question about Telegram-Spam

Puppet nr 784523

I've got some puppet in some region, and it keeps getting telegrams from a nation asking to come to his region. I know there's that handy "ignore"-button, but all the nations in the region are getting those same telegrams every few days. It's very annoying when every new nation that arrives, is bothered by him, and asked to leave for his region.

Is this considered as spam, and what would be the sanction?

If it's the same nation every time?

What about what certain regions have been doing (two of them quite steadily) with spamming new nations with regional invites?

I find it quite annoying, as occasionally my puppets do get legitimate telegrams, thus I have to always read the new telgrams and one of them even sent it to me belatedly (possibly by hand, as that nation was fifth for PF) inviting me to *eh-hem* Pelicans well after that nation's creation.

It also seems deceptive as I, and the few new nations whom I have read posts on this from, think that they were carefully selected through hard work, and detracts from the regions (MTGN and Wysteria for instance), who do it by hand and examination of the nations first.

I seem to recall that on the last ruling the mods were on the bench and eventually decided that they would not do anyhing on this yet, but that was months ago, and I'm wondering if the mods have come to a conclusive descision.

I have mixed feelings about this subject.

Nasicournia does have a recruitment team--that I have supplied with a kit about proper recruitment techniques. They are asked to specifically investigate regions for nations they think would be a good match/addition to our region...and only nations that seem discontent where they are.

While I agree that it is annoying to receive telegrams from regions who send them to my puppets (or even my main nation, this one--hello, I'm regional delegate and founder, no I don't want to leave! lol), it really doesn't bother me that much. After all, recruitment letters are how a good majority of us ended up in the regions we now call home. I also wouldn't have heard about many regions had they not contacted me this way, and instead of reporting them or getting mad about it, a lot of really good alliances have come from friendly recruitment letters coming in and out to/from my region.

What actually bothers me the most is regional board recruitment spam. Our recruiters are forbidden to engage in this kind of recruitment...I think it's rude, and it's one of the reasons we password-protected Nasicournia in the first place.

I think I'd rather have my nations initiating contact with new nations than going through already-established regions filled with nations that are content with where they live and don't want to be bothered with an invitation to leave. Also, if there has to be a rule about recruiting, I would almost have it forbid recruitment letters sent in to established regions, and permit recruitment of newcomers who may actually care to have material to read when just beginning the game and looking for a place to settle into. But that's just my opinion.

Personally, I've placed puppets in a lot of interesting regions from receiving recruitment letters. I think it's a far cry from spam, just because I've received spam many times in the past (including quite recently), and find it decidely different.

Anyway, just my opinion once again. But I would be very interested in hearing about that ruling, too.

I'd ban the buggers if I could but unfortunately I can only ban nations that are in the region. This gives me about 10 seconds to react to the spam and ban the offender.

Yeah, I guess I've done that before, too. So disruptive when you're trying to have a nice legitimate conversation. Also another reason we have an offsite forum. lol

As I mentioned on the Europe message board (via TCE), you can request moderator verification, and then put the url into a Getting Help report.

Its not this that I mind. It is the use of scripts to send to new nations which:

a. gets many if not mostly puppets(which as I mentioned, slows down my rounds of my puppets)
b. decieves real newbies into thinking that they were personally sought out
c. detracts from regions like yours which actually do investigate regions

There are two regions (which will not be named) which have been doing this for a long time, and one of them is the eighth largest region in the entire game, and yet has been doind this pretty much forever, and several others which do it on and off or in order to build up their regions.
