Well you don't want to now because everyone will just guess it.

Is it ok if I use a curse word as my region's passkey?

Well, well.... That's a new question. :)

The way I see it, the big concern with curse words is that we hold national names, mottos, and such to higher standards than forum posts. However, regional passwords are not seen by anyone unless you give out the password to someone.

Then again, this is still a problem if you choose to give out the password to a nation controlled by a child. However, this can be circumvented if you temporarily change the password to something that isn't a curse word, give the "nice" password out to the child player, wait for that nation to come in, and then change the password back to the curse word again.

I'm going to consult with the other mods and get back to you, but my preliminary* opinion is that is should be okay.

* "preliminary" means that it's not final; the decision might be changed.

Request: please make whatever ruling comes down to include that one may not set the password to a 'bad' word for the purpose of using the anti-obscenity rules as an excuse to not distribute the password in cases where one must do so according to other rules.

Hmmm.... Good idea. I'll bring this up.

Didn't Hack say that you were a bit overly-cautious Cog. ;)

Why don't you just go out on a limb? If worst comes to worst, you can be over-ruled.

Well, a password is generally private, and if someone really wants to use a curseword it isn't going to insult anyone.

I could use the most obscene phrase as a password, but the only way anyone would see it is if either (a) I told them about it, or (b) someone went looking for it, either by hacking or by legitimately checking it.

Since both of these possibilities are unlikely, except in situations of mutual consent (if you decide to look at someone's password, you've made an intentional choice to find out about someone's personal information) I can't see the problem.

I think you mean Slag (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=103701).

Because this is still under discussion by the mods. :P

I would imagine yes as long as you're not an invader, because then you don't have to give the password out. There would probably be too many risks if you had to give the password out to every nation in your region, because one of them could be a minor.
Just my thoughts on the matter
