Quick Suggestion

I know the General forums probably hog a lot of the server, I'm not saying get rid of general but more strictly control what is posted there.
On of the other forums i visit (dsmtuners.com) the hangout(same as general) outlawed all talk on politics and religion and or other controversial topics. It would probably be horribly protested at first, but after a while it will probably cut server traffic down, cut down flaming A LOT and make General a much better place to talk about General things.
I just thought i might make the suggestion for serious consideration.

I'd rather see the spam threads outlawed and the serious discussions such as politics and religion discussed.. the spam threads just hurt my brain.. LOL

Posts like 'The Volcano' and 'NEE's House' can definately go.
It was rule a while ago that intentional spam threads were banned... but they've creeped back under new names.
Political discussion can add something to the site as long as it's civilised, spam adds nothing, and drains server resources.

Posts like 'The Volcano' and 'NEE's House' can definately go.
I ended the Volcano for this reason. It was a spam topic that was clogging up the server. I would like to see 75% of spam topics leave General, as most can be done with IRC and AIM.

I think General would just be done away with if not for the some what intelligent discussions.. such as the politics and religion threads..
Perhaps posts in General should cease to count towards your postcount.
This would definately discourage *certain members* who post for the sake of it*

NS takes up more, and general has more members. You saying to cut back General, I can understand that. But I could reply by saying we should cut back on NS forum, because it's smaller then general.

*shrugs* I usually post in II anyway. Cutting spam and the Controversy might stop the site from getting those good ol this page cannot be displayed all the time. Or at least slow it down.

I think that idle chat topics should be taken out. We have an IRC channel, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, and other chat programs for that.

that would make sense as well. Either way, i hate getting those page cannot be displayed.
And a lot of the political topics seem to be flamebait though. A lot of people just jump in them and get caught up(i'm guilty of it as well as the next person) I think cutting those out would be good for the sight.

We could try to funnel some of the political discussion up into the UN forum...of course, this would only work for policy discussions.

Neut or Hack said that you allow the redundant threads to exist because people would cry "censorship", but it is a private forum anywhn, so if you get Max's permission. . .

How about we just delete all threads of non-significance and spam over 2 weeks old? That would keep old threads around, but older worthless threads would be killed.
That way, we don't have to cut back on either forum and we all can be happy! How about it?

How many "ban bush haters" "[insert religion here] sucks" "impeach dubya" "boycott europe" and "homosexuals are evil" threads do we really need?

If we started taking these threads out, people would say-
<Snip> ...People would cry "censorship"
But if we deleted the old pointless topics, people would say- "Yay, the server is working!!" While we clear out the old topics at the same time and lessen tensions between RPers and Generalites.
It's a win-win situation!

Not really. NS and General get purged the most. The most recent purge hit every forum, however.
