Request for Archival of "het nederlandse topic"
Het nederlandse topic
We, as I speak for most of the Dutch-speaking community counted for on NS, would like to request that the aforementioned thread be moved to the archive since it holds a great cultural value to us. So that we can look back at when the speaking-speaking community first united and discussed issues both about NS AND the real world and so I may become a reference point to new speaking-speaking members so that they can find people they can easily converse with and guide them through their first weeks of NS.
This would also reduce the amount of noob-nations (which is already very small within the speaking-speaking community) to almost nil, which would benefit the whole NS community.
We hope you seriously consider our proposal and look forward to an affirmative answer.
For the speaking-speaking community,
Desiree

I'm not sure I like the idea of the Archive being filled with a lot of threads that are simply conversation...
If another mod wants to do it, be my guest, but count me out.

Granted, I don't know Dutch, but I do know that the title is "the Dutch topic," and what little I've read and translated of it strikes me as entirely conversational--no different from what goes on in English all the time on these forums. The only difference that I can discern is that the thread is in a different language.
If this is not just conversation, would you kindly enlighten me as to what this thread was indeed about?
well, *some* of it is just random conversation, but most of it is actually discussion about dutch/belgian actuality and stuff

Then it's conversation, conversation that is no different from what goes on all the time around here and won't be getting archived.
Sorry, but I'd hardly deem that one of the "greatest threads of all time."

It was a small step for Nationstates, but a huge step for the dutch-speaking community here. You probably wouldn't understand what it means to us, or do you??
For example, this hype about a Dutch-speaking mod, you see, it's really important to us, knowing there are other dutch-speaking people in this game.
This was a gathering place for dutch-speaking people in whole Nationstates. You know the dutch/belgian community is an important group, but this was the first thread that brought us closer together.
Since many nationalities participate in this game, this thread would should the world how multicultural, educational and diverse this game is. I fully support the motion of getting this "draadje" into the archives.
Sorry, but I'd hardly deem that one of the "greatest threads of all time."
But we do, it is very important to us, and if you think our thread is just conversation then every thread her on NS is.

It was a small step for Nationstates, but a huge step for the dutch-speaking community here. You probably wouldn't understand what it means to us, or do you??
So if I make a thread that unites people in my home state, Ohio (what with my being a "typical fat-ass American" and all...), I can archive it?
For example, this hype about a Dutch-speaking mod, you see, it's really important to us, knowing there are other dutch-speaking people in this game.
I'm sorry, but I'm not buying into the language argument. The only difference between this thread and any other is, to me, the fact that it's in Dutch.
This was a gathering place for dutch-speaking people in whole Nationstates. You know the dutch/belgian community is an important group, but this was the first thread that brought us closer together.
There are MANY similar threads that "brought people together." They're not all going to get archived.
Since many nationalities participate in this game, this thread would should the world how multicultural, educational and diverse this game is. I fully support the motion of getting this "draadje" into the archives.
I don't see why that's such a big deal. Doesn't this game already support that notion?
But we do, it is very important to us, and if you think our thread is just conversation then every thread her on NS is.
You'll notice that most threads AREN'T going into the archives.

Slaglands, that *joke* of fat ass thingie, was (not made by me) and the writer didn't mean it either, just in hope that you'll post something in Dutch, so that we know who it is. (the dutch understanding mod)
Too bad you don't want to archive it, just because you don't think it should. We still do, for the reasons given in my request.
And i still don't understand why it is so difficult for the mods to say who can read/speak or write Dutch. Like we are going to attack that person. Geez, grow up. Just tell us and we'll be happy.

Yeah, Dutch grammar is very different from English grammar. That's the problem with this translator.

I DO NOT KNOW WHICH MOD SPEAKS DUTCH.

You could be a great "Mime" player.
Okay but enough job-advising, back on topic:
I have scanned the archive section a bit. And I support the decision not to Archive "het Nederlandse Topic". Yes sir, support I do.
How could I be flawed? How could we be flawed? The Dutch Topic as mentioned above was started by a regular player. And if you look at the Archive you see that an (estimated) majority of the threads there where started by officials such as Moderators.
And they guarantee the quality of the threads in there. Our 60+ page thread with input from all those Dutch and Belgian players within NS of course cannot compete with threads of such high standards. Yes, high standards indeed like a 3-page discussion about the alleged discovery of a stone, which I discovered there. After reading this and some other threads I am ashamed that we even dared to ask to put our humble Topic in such an Archive with such high standards.
But with all of the above, the question which Mod speaks Dutch is now becomming an important one. Maybe if he/she starts the "Dutch Thread Part 3" it will be archived some day.

Sorry, but I'd hardly deem that one of the "greatest threads of all time."

Some clarification maybe: These quotes are from The SLAGLands, saying he doesn't want to archive our Dutch.
To not-Dutch speakiing folks it may seem just giberish, but it symbolises more then that. We may not have the same high standards (?) as those fantastic discussions that I’ve read down in the Archive, but I really enjoyed reading our own “het nederlandse topic” much more then when I skimmed through those literal masterpieces (sic).
It appears to me SLAGLands prefers to favor some own-started threads. Of the already 50 archived topics, almost 1/5 are started by him personally. Com'on even the smallest kid would start suspecting him of favorism, egocentristm or whatever.
I compared some threads in the archive, and there’s one big similiarity. The requirement of a thread seems to be it should be started by either a mod, a delegate, or another big shot (usually some RP'er) or at least one of those should have posted several times. I don’t understand this elitism.
This is a requirement the Dutch-speaking community can’t fullfill, since the average mod doesn’t speak Dutch. And if there’s one who can, he/she doesn’t want to talk Dutch in public. I won’t start this discussion again in here, I respect his/her descision, but we’re still nousy.

Well, I've given it some thought... and what can I say? I changed my mind.
"het nederlandse topic" is one of the longest-running topics in the General forum, and based on what I'm hearing, it's more than just the typical discourse that takes place in this forum.
Consider it archived.
