I wasn't the GM who did it, but if I remember properly it was a combination of improper motto, flag, and posts.

Hi MGH.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. How can I find the reason?

I'll admit to being an outright n00b so I can't be sure that I didn't break any rules. However, I have been quite active on the forum for a couple of weeks and have had no warnings. Or does justice come swiftly and without warning on Nation States?

Sorry to eat up your time but just as it was getting interesting, it would seem I've been deleted - boo hoo!

I believe this was a case of "totality of evidence". In other words, any single one would have warrented a warning. I believe there was a telegram sent explaining this. Perhaps on another nation of yours?

Ah-ha! I found the telegram. Aparently Dogs Bottom was considered an inappropriate name - is that serious! I chose it as it seemed a little risque but mildly amusing, in keeping with many of the other names I saw on Nation States. However if anyone had found it offensive I would willingly have changed it.

However, I have read enough posts to realise the futility of trying to argue against a decision so I'll go. A shame really, I was enjoying the game and thought that I was keeping within the unwritten bounds of decency. It seems harsh to delete someone without a warning but I guess that's the way it goes. Goodbye Nation States, it was fun playing and to anyone who was traumatised by my use of the word "bottom", I offer my unreserved apologies

Unfortunately, whether you would willingly have changed it or not, you wouldn't have been able to. You can't change the name of your nation

That is correct. Trying to change the name of a nation wreaks all sorts of havoc with the game.

Er... If someone was really deleted for calling their nation 'Dogs Bottom', when why do I see hundreds of ones which I personally think are amusing, but could be taken as offensive around?

Because we don't know about them.

Submit the names to the Getting Help (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=help) page and ask if any of them are considered offensive.

Well, the phpBB Groups nation names spring to mind... heh...

And Little Twunts (as in small idiots), which is one of my nations... The motto and animal, etc, aren't offensive, and (in my opinion) neither is the name, but non-English speakers (I.E. those who speak American :P) may misinterpret it...

The word is pretty innocent slang, usually used as a light joke between friends.

I think this thread has drifted away from why Dogs Bottom was deleted and perhaps even strayed a little from moderation?

First of all I want to say that this time I'm completely innocent. I have nothing at all to do with the former nation of "Dogs Bottom", although I gave him a fleshy fat-dripping bone from a roasted ox in one thread about one week ago.

Second: What is it with animals that are so terrifying? I have not forgotten about me getting in trouble for posting a pic of a squirrel.

Third: I guess that "Dogs top" would be equally inappropriate as "Dogs bottom"? Which would mean that "Top Dogs" is also out of the question?

By all means, carry on banning animal related nations/pics/whatever (but please, put out an announcement before we can't even mention animals in posts). It's (for me anyway) a godsent source of inspiration for boring days on ns, when you do so. :D
