Would the Mods be able to lock a thread after my first post?

I would like to start a thread that will undoubtedly, and immedietly, be the target of flame, spam, cursing, and much more. It will not be (purposefully) offensive, or crude. It will merely enrage many. However, I do want to say what I have to say. So, I'm faced with a conundrum. I can either post what I have to post, and see my well thought out post torn to shreds, or I can not post and leave what I have to say unsaid. So, I'd like to go for a compromise.

I will start a thread in the General section saying what I have to say, and a mod will lock it after I make my first post.

If a mod will not do this I will not make the thread, since what I have to say is not worth the aggrivation. Will a mod be willing to do this?

Try E-mailing or telegramming it to a mod first, to see if it's acceptable.

Not me, though, I'm sleepy.

Oh wait he's not a mod yet right?

What if you sent it to several players (Myself, NuMetal and Bas, are all on right now) and then we paraphrase it for Cog?

I suppose this would be ok. Explain to me what this is about, or TM me what you want to say. I'll read it over and tell you what I think.

You'll see it when it goes onto the forums. :P If I get it, I'll send it to ya.

I'll just post it here. Like I said, it's not offensive (at least, I don't think it is)

I was going to say how the Swatztika, the symbol that people have come to associate with Nazism, racism, and general evilness, is in fact the reverse of an ancient Hindu symbol that represents peace and harmony.

I'm going to use more words and have support (and really stress how I am not saying that Hinduism has any connection to Nazism) when I post it in General, but that's what it'll say.

Are you trying to get the Swatztika unbanned, or just expressing how you feel?
Klonor

Neither. I have no feeling on this (I hate the Swatzika, I really, really do). I am merely stating an unknown fact that I think people should know.

One of the reasons I want the thread closed immedietly is because people will automatically assume that I am trying to prove a point or show how "this or that" is true.

This fact has been expressed before in the big debate over the symbol, but I doubt anyone listened. And that was for people trying to convince the mods to keep the symbol legal.

Ok, this has my support. I'll go find a mod to help you out.

I might say how this is an example of how Hitler took something that was good and peaceful and turned it into a symbol for evil and terror, but it will be, at best, a minor piece of the post.

I may be blacklisting myself, but this has my support too. I've always disliked the power the mods give the symbol even by banning it.

It is a fact that's been beaten to death by all interested parties not too long ago. The newbies might be interested, but it would need to be sticky or something to get noticed if you don't want it to drown in a sea of topics. And if I were a mod, I'm not sure I'd want a post about swastikas, no matter how well informed, at the top of a board for any length of time. It just encourages folks like "Aryan Nations" to make asses of themselves.

Rocky, you are too young to know about those debates. Unless your a puppet or an old nation that died from inactivty. Which is it? Do we know each other?

Kolnor, change your topic title to "I need some mod help with this, please!". Or something like that. That should grab the attention of any mods that come in here.

I would, except the Mods specifically say not to make threads that say that.

That information about the swastika isn't exactly breaking news, and I doubt it will create the flurry of flames you think it will, unless you were planning to type it out in a much more inflamatory fashion.

So, no, I'm not going to lock it right after you post. The last thing I need or want is a flurry of people asking that they be allowed to make a point, and then have it instantly locked before anyone else can try to counter the point, or even discuss it. Besides, they could just as easily create a new thread to discuss your locked thread.

If you want to make this point, go an make it. If flames happen, it will be locked, otherwise it will sink naturally.

No offence. But this sounds sort of selfish, doesn't it? You simply want to post something and have it locked before anyone can say anything. Again, not trying to be mean or anything, but I don't think a forum filled with locked threads requested by users to insure there is no debate that turns sour.... that doesn't really sound like a great place to navigate through.

I only asked because I have seen other threads saying the same thing (like was said here) and, while some did manage to have intellectual discussions, many simply fell into flame wars. Since the mods are against it I wont do it.
Ackbar
12-11-2003, 16:20
Again, I meant no offence and don't believe you inteded it to be a selfish act. Just my opinion on it. Since the mods won't lock it, why not simply start the thread anyway. Allow the possibility for intelgen to debate. If it falls to Flame War it will get locked, and you'll get you way anyway.

The thing is, I really hate flame wars. I see no point to them. I just see them as that much time of my life gone. I could never start a thread that I know will degenerate into spam and flame.
