Moderators Starting Topics for Resolutions

It looks like we are going to be back to having a page filled with different topics on the current resolution.

I know that this has been suggested before, but in the future would it be possible to have a mod or the server start one thread on the resolution, and all of the other threads locked with no squabbling over "well my thread was first" (like there was the last time that the mods (or rather mainly Cog) tried enforincing one thread for the resolution)?

Wondering,

An alternative would be to have you UN-ers (sounds like a terrible insult, dunnit?) have one nation speak For - i.e. start a thread like that - and have another thread Against.
Maybe that would get confusing though.

Yes, two would not be too bad, but I will usulally see about two dozen against, and then later on toward the end a half dozen for.

That gets annoying.

One thing I don't like about having a "For" thread and an "Against" thread is that you tend to get less debate and more boring concurrence.

Well, you *do* get the flamers on all of the threads. And remember, this would not be only "FOR" and AGAINST" only the starting post.

My suggestion would be to write a little script that posts a thread in the UN forum whenever a proposal reaches the greater assembely, which is stickied for the duration of the voting. Once it passes, it can be unstickied and the next resolution can take its place.

Pretty much what Qaa said, but having it done automatically, and keeping it as a sticky. That way nobody can miss it. It will only be one at a time, so should hardly clog the top of the board. And I like automating things

Maybe along the lines of....

Sticky: @@RESOLUTION_NAME@@ Debate

This is the official thread for debate on @@RESOLUTION_NAME@@, the current resolution at vote in the United Nations. Voting ends on @@VOTE_END_DATE@@.

The post permissions can be altered so only mods can start threads, but everyone else can post in them.

Yes, but the UN forum is also or proposals, and we do not want a thread on every proposal, only on the ones where the writer takes the time to make a thread for it.

So, in other words, if people would actually look before they post...

Nah, that's too much to ask.
