Why would one suddenly become an "ex-nation" with

10-11-2003, 08:02
Upon trying to log in to my nation of Fuqua this evening, I was advised by the system that it no longer exists. When viewing the front page of my region, Nexus, my nation is listed in the top ten, but as "ex-nation" and my flag is gone.
Why could this be?
Crazy error?
Or did I do something illegal that no one notified me about?
Help?

your name can be phoenetically pronounced as a naughty thing, therefore it is a violation of the TOS by attempting to bypass the auto censoring thingy, instant Modbomb

You really think that's the reason? I've been playing on here for a few months now, and at no point has anyone at all expressed offense at my name.
I was not warned.
This doesn't seem quite fair.
When discussing nationstates with my friends, the nation was pronouced
fooo kwa.
How could I challenge this ruling?

I would guess someone probably jsut noticed it recently, as for contesting it, your best bet is to do it via the getting help page, just look at Corinths sig,
10-11-2003, 08:39
the getting help page simply refers you to the forums.
this doesn't(as far as i know) involve any abuse or cheating, so the "contact a moderator" thing won't help....
any other ideas?

...Getting help doesnt refer you to the forums...except maybe to say "Go to the forums if it is a forum related issue."

And Response to a Moderator is the best bet. It's still iffy that you get it back, though. Make a good case, not just that it's been around a while, and maybe put a link to this thread in the request.

I lived in the region of Nexus for an extensive period of time
with the nation in question.
If it was deleted due to it's name, I respectfully object and ask that it be reinstated. Though we had differences in political opinions, I found the nation's leader to be consistently appropriate with their language, and not at all vulgar in the sense for which the nation's name would have caused it's deletion.

respectfully,
uBeR, Leader of the Most Serene Republic of Fenisia
Founder and UN Regional Delegate of Loris.

I posted my request to the moderator about 24 hours ago.

In the city I live in, there are at least 15-20 families in the phone book with the last name Fuqua.
It's a *name.*
I miss my nation.
And I had just finally gotten around to making a flag for it, as well.

*sigh*

Much like Fensia, I have also shared a region with Fuqua since it's creation. There has never been an issue with Fuqua for inappropriate language, or vulgarity. I also petition that Fuqua be reinstated as a nation.

And how long do you think it would normally take to hear back on something like this?
I'm still vaguely aggravated that at no point did anyone tell me my nation violated any terms. Fuqua just spontaneously ceased to exist.
I've lost quite a bit of interest in maintaining my new nation on account of this.
I just want to know what's going on.

It could well be several more days, unfortunately. Such waiting times are not uncommon.

Also, I've noticed that sometimes the mods don't actually tell you they resurected the nation. Check the region Lazarus (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=list_region_members/region=lazarus) every now and then to see if it's been resurrected. (It hasn't for the moment).

How very odd, that your country had this fate befall it. I hope they will provide you with an explanation of why this happened.

It's also the name of the Buisness school at Duke University (go Blue Devils!) ... though Duke does have some tips for pronuncing the namesake of the Business school correctly.

a pronunciation guide:
Fuqua is named for famed industrialist, philanthropist and statesman J.B. Fuqua, of Atlanta, Georgia. The correct pronunciation is [few-kwa]. Whatever you do, don't say [foo-kwa] or (shudder) any other mispronunciation. Thanks for your interest in The Fuqua School of Business and feel free to contact us at any time. Enjoy your visit.

Speaking from previous experience, don't expect the Mods to even look into it. Unless you are willing to keep pushing the issue. Also don't look for the Mods to make any choice that would involve reinstating a nation. As for the name thing Fuqua is the name of a very predominate family in the town where I grew up, and is very highly respected. Don't expect the Mods to take notice of any commentary from anyone. They just do things and tell you to live with it. Just my opinion.

We're looking into it.

Thank you.
I appreciate knowing that, if nothing else, somebody is aware and looking into the problem.

And I find it so very amusing that this thread has become an opportunity for the hawking of sports memorabilia. :)

 it's suggestive, but it's funny ... who didn't laugh when DeNero said "Faulker" in "Meet the Parents"... even "Shrek" had the villan Lord Farquaad of Duloc... I salute you Fuqua...

I was browsing the regional page for "Nexus" for unrelated reasons (that I no longer remember) when I, by chance, noticed the existence of "Fuqua". I also noticed a post on the Civil Headquarters board by this nation that used the term "Mother Fuqua". Additionally, the national currency was the "fuqass". My opinion, as a Moderator, was that the national name was deliberately intended to be offensive and I alerted a Game Moderator. The Game Moderator concurred with my decision and deleted "Fuqua".

I have never heard of "Fuqua" being a family name prior to reading this topic. However, having done a few internet searches, I found it to be a plausible explanation and notified the Game Moderators of a reversal of my earlier recommendation to DEAT "Fuqua". "Fuqua" has been resurrected and now resides in "Lazarus".

The Game Moderator who resurrected "Fuqua" found it's name, combined with it's currency, to be (and I quote) "mildly questionable", but decided not to change the currency. Nevertheless, I unofficially suggest that you consider changing the national currency to something a little less questionable. However, since the Game Moderator who resurrected "Fuqua" decided not to change the currency, you may leave it as it is.

Thank you for your explanation, as well as the reversal.
I appreciate your time, and I am happyhappy to have my nation back.
I will do my best to behave and prove worthy of the magic involved in resurrecting an entire peoples.

Congratulations on acting in a fair manner to resolve this issue. In taking the time to check different forms of varification, you found the way to settle the matter. Then you showed a high level of integrity by admitting that there was a mistake made. Very well done indeed.
