In response to this (because I could not reply through telegram:
[code:1:2806814023]NationStates Moderators
Received: 7 hours ago I'm very disappointed. You should be well aware that invading a region and password locking it without notifying the defending nations is against the rules. You have been warned. [/code:1:2806814023]

I didn't know and It wont happen again.

You should feel lucky to be not deleted. One of my friends here got deleted because he along with his friend endored someone who password-protected the region.

In short, if you want to region crash, be careful not to break the rules of fair play

I just found out that we can't password lock the regions anymore.

You can. You just have to t-gram all of the natives and tell them what it is.

I was warned so if it happens again.. well I'm all bye bye. It won't now that I'm aware of the rules.

I know, I was just trying to make it easier for them, ya know, so they don't get all confused and such.

If you are going to crash a region, you are not allowed to do anything which causes further distress or inconvenience to the natives. Not informing all of them of any new passwords as and when they are imposed is one example of griefing, and this is where you went wrong. Other banned activities include using telegrams, the regional message board or the World Factbook Entry to harass natives, ejecting large numbers of natives, and spamming the Regional Happenings ticker (I have previously come across invaders who thought this was within the rules). There is a fine line between region crashing and griefing. We are well aware of it, but no mercy will be shown to anyone who is not.

That country isn't brining up anything when I search for it...could it be a forum-only account?

I seem to remember a nation with the same name or something similar sending out TGs asking for passwords...although I know TROUSRS did region crash (not griefing to my knowledge) lately, so I don't know.

If someone wants to telegram the password after 24 hours, is that OK?

That country doesn't bring up anything because it's a "Voice of Mod" telegram. In other words, it's a telegram by the mods from the Mod Centre. There is no nation associated with it.

No. Send the telegrams immediately, even to currently inactive natives.

Arg, you moderators confuse me sometimes.

I got a telegram from The 0 of 0 saying a requested nation was revived. 0 of 0?!

[Got on that one meaning on that case or why the telegram was sent from there? It actually sent me 2 saying "d2c ressurected"]

Hrm. Ah well. If you asked for D2c to be ressurected, give it a whirl. If not, just ignore it.

Oh lord, not this again.

Edit: Seeing as you've deleted that TG, there is nothing that I can do about it.

Isn't 0 of 0 that nation that wasn't active for like 20 years?

0 of 0 is a bug that appears in the system occasionally. It is a real nation (and a different one each time) for which the data has gone totally fubar.

Is it just me that gets the impression that there's more to this game than meets the eye? Any other program would give you an error message when something goes wrong. This one has a phantom nation called 0 of 0 that goes around reviving people's old nations for them...

Salusa, maybe you should try an exorcism

Yes, there is far more to this game than meets the eye.

I'm going to try to do some investingation into this "The 0 of 0". Salusa, what are some other names that it has been under.

As to the 'more then meets the eye', I am starting to see that more and more. Now that I know some basic perl, I partially understand this game. I don't see how all these bugs can happen, then again, I guess I never will.

TROUSRS, be my guest. I've already figured out everything except what triggered it this specific time. This shouldn't have been able to happen. I also know how to fix it (and it shall be shortly). Perl, however, should be enough for you to figure out why it is 0 of 0.

As far as the other names, I don't recall, though I think "Neo Wisconsin" was one of them.

Huh, so I am not the only one seeing it. Weird. I know to what you refer, and have already reported that specific problem. I don't see how it could be a simple ghost nation this time.

The 0 of 0, then, must have some sort of connection with the Revival system somehow. Who was the moderator that revived The Midget Mafia? Maybe the telegrams from the mod centre (NationStates Moderators Telegrams) some how get transfered into 0 of 0.. gah. I think [violet] does this on purpose sometimes  , then again, why would s/he? Everyone needs some sort of motivation to do something, all I have to do is find out what [violet]s is..

Ah, so this is why a message I received first from the NationStates Moderators (in the normal black, unlinked print) now says The 0 of 0 (and yes when I click on the name, it takes me back to my own nation page). I think this change occured sometime yesterday afternoon, only several hours after I received the initial message. I'll leave it in my inbox, too, if that will help out any. Good to have some confusion cleared a bit! ;-)

That determined, a moderator must be reviving the nations, and the NationStates Moderators Telegrams are being transfered to 0 of 0?

Eh?

A moderator did indeed revive D2c (or whatever it was). It looks like the bug simply altered the proper 'sender' of the telegram.

Don't worry, the Mod Centre hasn't become sentient and started acting on its own (yet...)

By ghost I didn't exactly mean that the nation was dead, far from it, simply that it wasn't all there. Perhaps "Hollow" would be better. Basically it's the shell of a nation and nothing more than that.
