Selling Nation States! (What the Hell!)

I just came across the Mother of all Weasels in the Nation States World. I mean Invaders are one thing, but profiting from the sale of a Nation States in a Free Game is way lower.

There's this state called 'Nationstates trader'; listing Nations for sale in the Region 'The nation shop'; with their thread in the Nation States Forum:

They even have their own little weasel site:

This is just wrong on so many levels.

We do not approve of such activity.

However, since no real money is involved and nations are swapped with a third party checking their authenticity before the transaction is made, I do not know whether this quite well-organised set-up is actually breaking any rules.

I will say however that you do so at your own risk, and trading in recently ex-UN nations could potentially result in a Multi-scan false positive. And in the event of disputes over ownership, our ability to do anything may well be very limited.

So, my personal advice would be to not get involved. But if you choose to do so, please be aware of the risks.

hello,

i think it is good to give a reaction from my side.

as tactical grade wrote i'm not selling nations for real money. that would be a reason to ip-ban me i think. let the money out of this nice game, i said it before.

but the problems tactical grace mentioned, i didn't know this could give problems... if you buy an ex-un-nation, isn't that the same as to resign with your current un-nation and apply with another? the same scan results i mean.

i do not know much about the technical aspects of this game, but if i'm causing troubles i am willing to work things out with the mods. if there's no solution i'll just bury the nation shop.

i started with this because i saw people giving away their nations, or even trade them. i thought it could be nice to make some central thing where people could do this.

just let me know.

and i'm not profiting from the sale of a nation. i'm just trading nations for other nations.

Well the issue with used UN nations is that we have records of someone else using the for the UN so confusion can result and cause false Multi positives. This isn't to stop you from doing this, just to let you know of some of the risks involved.

I'ld like to know if there's any risq involved in trading nations that never were a UN-member?

good to know that. i have traded nations before. i mean, before i started with the nationstates trader. and friends who quit playing nationstates gave me their nations.... also ex un-nations... so the system could track this and i could get banned? although i never had more than one un-nation at a time?
just asking, if this is true, i'll have to be much more careful.

If neither of the two nations being swapped were ever a UN member, there should be no problems with multi-scan false positives. But of course other problems remain, including impersonation, potentially of a defamatory sort, and being tricked into giving up a nation, although this is less likely with an impartial intermediary who checks the passwords of both. I cannot think of any more right now, but it is certainly worth weighing up the downsides before making a transaction.

You will probably be fine. And because we are aware of your actions, we may investigate more thoroughly, but the risk is still there.

All good points but there is something about this that gives me an uneasey feeling...the imitation issue is the biggest one imo, also I shudder to think what will happen if the griefers get into this...you can see it, invade, trade your nation, invade...

A tough time ahead for us anti-greifers methinks.

Ya know guys.....this is hardly a new idea. Nation sales have been going on for quite a while now.
