Why did you lock my thread?

http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=87393

My guess would be because discussing a game in which there was non-consensual sex and publishing pictures of (admittedly) crude pixelated creatures fornicating, falls under "publishing pornography."

Non Consensual???? Bollocks!!! How do you know? Never heard of S&M?

Crude pixilated creatures....this is 1982...think space invaders...this was the norm...

I remember when this game came out...and I see the moral majorty crowd is out...

Actually, I was serious. Even though the graphics are awful, it depicts two creatures having sex, and that is, in my opinion, why the thread was axed. "Pornography".

And posting pic's of people burning won't?

Where? If it's deemed graphic then it will be deleted and the poster warned. Obscenity usually results in deletion however.

I will trust that the Mods will be equally as effective in locking racist thread, religious threads that end up slagging off other religions, threads that contain graphic images of fighting...etc etc...

Really? Ok...this can easily de generate into minutea but I would like to point out that

- I get issues that I have deal with in my nation that are sexual.

- there have been threads that are as distasteful as the one posted.

Just because you do not like something you cannot bann it can you?

I do not understand the logic behind the locking of that thread...

hey...don't pull that tone with me son.

I am trying to understand the criteria of what obscene is....

Sure that picture is obscene...so are some of the comments in the Christianity is the one true religion thread...

So are threads started by the racists...they are not there to engage people in political debate...and they are obscene...

They do not get pulled. Do they?

]It's free speech, so I can post whatever I like here, right?
Ahahahaha! Hahaha! Free speech! No, it's not. I run this web site, see, so you have to play by my rules. It's like my own Father Knows Best state.

What can I post?
You can discuss and argue about almost anything, so long as it's vaguely relevant to politics or NationStates and doesn't fall into any of the categories below. You don't have to be politically correct, but you must maintain a minimum standard of behavior.

What can't I post?
Any content that is:

obscene
illegal
threatening
malicious
defamatory
spam
This applies to your nation's name, motto, and other customizable fields, any messages you write, images you post, or any other content you upload or link to NationStates. If you do, your nation will be deleted. See the site's Terms & Conditions for details.

Also prohibited is the practice of "griefing." Griefing is playing with the primary aim of annoying or upsetting other people. If you do this, the game moderators may take action against you.

No I never said that the issues are obscene...some are of a sexual nature. This surely means that sex can be discussed....if Nazism/Racism is allowed to be discussed then so should sex...and obscene material...hey..its your standard not mine...

It seems a shame that it is selective though...

And yes I understand fully why you must make a stand agianst those who might post porn..I mean I am not THAT unreasonable...

Like I said I want to understand wihats what...rather than getting banned or rising the wrath of the mods and then getting deleted (finally) due to a bad joke...(I assume the thread orginator got deleted cuz of the HAL comment?)
Sirocco
31-10-2003, 23:25
Threads are deleted for obscenity, not for being of a sexual nature. Tumenia was not deleted for the HAL comment, it was because of the rape picture.

There is a distiction between images and text.

Obscene images will be removed and the poster warned or deleted.

Text has more leeway. Explicit textual descriptions of violence are permitted in serious roleplays if the roleplay topic is accompanied by a "No Children" warning. I believe that a similar standard exists for explicit sexual text descriptions in serous roleplays with a "No Children" warning. However, they have to serve a purpose in advancing the roleplay and may not be posted merely for their own sake.

Graphic images of sex and violence are not permitted.

Threads like this should be reported.

If the threads are reported in the Moderation forum, then something will be done about them. We can't comb through every single page of every single topic.

OK...fair play....you want to use the community to police itself as it were...a noble idea and one I would like to be successfull...

However I have an ethical problem with that as I think all subjects should be discussed (flamebaiting should, like spam be deleted)...but I know that this is not applicable on this site.

So does this come under the remit of locking?

OK, but I'd like to get a few things straight. An obscenity, is a sexually graphic post or image. Graphic pictures of people with their head blown apart can also expect to find themselves deleted. Show me this thread of dead babies and I'll do something about it. If it's not reported then it's less likely we'll deal with it.

Thats what I gathered...

Re the dead baby thread..I remember it..it was pictures of the aftermath of the gassing of that Kurdish village by Saddam...
And the pic was used in a terrorist attack storyline so there was a proper IC reason for it being here. I think the pic came from a CNN section on the Iraq war, both parts of it. don't ask for the link I don't have it

Well apperantly context is not taken into account.....

Context is usually taken into account. However, for offences such as posting pornographic images, no warning needs to be issued and the punishment is deletion. A Forum Mod will remove the offending image and might also lock the thread. A Game Mod will then delete the nation which posted it. Just because there is a time lag, even one of several hours, does not mean that punishment is not in motion.

:D

On a side note:

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more people found the union jack to be more pornographic than the picture that is discussed. I wouldn't be able to see what it was about if the original post hadn't more or less explained it. Someone said something about the letter 'D' to be more erotic than this particular picture. Did all of you see it? If not, take another look... Sometimes it's perhaps the own mind that makes a picture porngraphic, not the s.c. artist...

Thats fair enough. Out and out porn deserves that action without a doubt.
