Do the mods actually like the other players?
The mods tend to talk down to players, make generalisations about them and maginalise them a bit. So I was just wondering, in a general kind of sense, do the mods like the players?

In general, yeah, we like the players. But you have to realize, we're in a tough situation. Most of the interactions that we have with players in official capacities consist of wrongdoing by some player. And then, we get complaints no matter what we do. Thus, yeah, we like players over all, but there are times when it does get to be quite tiring.

The mods like me, I think.
They put up with a LOT of shit from us, us meaning the entire community of NS. And yeah I bet it gets very tiring like Salusa said. But in a way, it's needed. As much as they try to say they're gods (which they are...please don't smite me), any system of authority/compliance needs checks and balances. Out of the 1000 complaints they get, there may be 2 or 3 in there that may make them go, "Oh yeah..."
Huh. Players...
Of course we like you all!
You know, maybe if the players weren't such jerks to the mods, they wouldn't "look down on us." Ever think of that, anyone?

Seriously, there are some players that I wouldn't mind accidentally getting rid of, but they're in the minority. Most of you guys are okay

I think it's fairly obvious that's a joke, since if you deleted all of us, there would be no point for the mods to exist.

Sure there would be, they would just sit and have DEAT contests, or call eachother out into the forum and see who can DEAT the fastest. Much like the old westerns :D

NationStates has some great players, the ones I know and respect should know who they are, although they will know me by several different names. Seriously, I have only been a Mod a couple of weeks, and in the months before that, I was actually playing the game. I still play and have not forgotten those still with us.

All in all, I dont have problems with many players. I know I sound condescending more than any other mod, but I ask you to look at who I'm usually responding to when I do so. Most of the time that I'm condescending, it's towards those that have broken the rules repeatedly, or are bitching that the rules dont favor them, etc. - in other words, those that deserve it.

i've never actually dealt with the mods. i'm pretty sure i've never even talked to any of them (i.e responded to something one said, or said something to which one responded).
i'm just curious as to why they delete posts and nations sometimes, but still leave evidence that the post once existed (you know, the ones that say "post deleted by nationstates moderators", with "ex-nation" as the author)
The mods seem to like most of the players that don't cause trouble. They're also usually pretty cool about people who are just trying to have fun. It's just when one person's fun comes at another's expensive that they have to take action.

Well, I don't always find the mods to be exactly fountains of charm, and I don't think I cause (much) trouble.
All in all, I dont have problems with many players. I know I sound condescending more than any other mod, but I ask you to look at who I'm usually responding to when I do so.
I hope you won't take it to heart if I say that you were one of the people I was thinking about when I made this thread. Although I very rarely have complaint about you in an official capacity, I've felt the sharp end of your tongue on more than one occasion, and I'm not sure that I particularly deserved it.

Stop pushing issues and there wont be a problem. See, I get a sharp tongue when a question/issue is answered, and yet those who dont like the answer continue to attempt to push the Mods around. It doesnt work that way, and no amount of bitching/whining/moaning/pushing is going to cause the Mods to change a ruling.

Firstly, it is just the way it seems to work, when a Game Mod deletes a nation, there is an option to delete all of their posts, and a "shadow" remains. Secondly, this is kind of helpful in that it preserves a record of sorts, where they spammed or whatever. That is useful sometimes. I have on occasion referred people to threads when answering a query as to why a particular nation was deleted, and it all makes sense - the shadow of a deleted post, a couple of posts by other nations calling for the porn to be removed, another shadow, etc. Otherwise, it would be confusing, but this way, one glance tells the story.

It has become overly frequent to see players attempting to resolve issues which only the Mods can resolve.
On the other hand, ]<snip>
Doesn't this suggest that players are supposed to help other players with problems too?
There are different kinds of problems. Not every issue needs a Mod. However, as I stated and you conveniently left out, no player can know the reasons for a nations deletion or UN ejection. Posting in a thread wherein a player is asking for assistance directly from a Moderator has become overly frequent, and is now somewhat akin to "spam" in attempts to become the next Moderator (not in every case, but in far too many).
And I gave a reason in the original post that was misquoted: Oft times those experienced players give mistaken information, or jump to the wrong conclusion and as a result confusion abounds. Thus, we ask that players not address issues that only a Mod can address.
The other forums have plenty of players asking for assistance that does not require a Moderator's input, and players are therein encouraged to assist (RP, Tech issues, UN, etc.).

Posting in a thread wherein a player is asking for assistance directly from a Moderator has become overly frequent, and is now somewhat akin to "spam" in attempts to become the next Moderator (not in every case, but in far too many). As to the first bit, don't you think it would therefore be a good idea to put the reasons for ejections or deletions somewhere? As to the second bit, I don't quite understand what you mean, are you suggesting helpful posts are spam?
