I have split some of the posts out and isolated them.

I'm getting a second opinion about other posts in that topic.

I just don't understand all this complaining about threads you don't like. Simple solution: Don't Read It.

3/4 of this forum is people complaining about stuff that wouldn't be a problem if they would simply click the back button on their browser.

Absolutely. I find it even stranger that incredibly descriptive violence is ok as long as there's a NC-17 warning yet any sexual connotation is frowned on. Killing is ok but slapping uglies isn't? Like Nothingg said you don't like it hit your back button. Like the wee ones aren't getting worse things off a Google search.

Ahh, but there's that whole "obscene" rule....

Not to mention, there's also porn and goatse and such all over the net, easily found through Google...does that mean that it's ok for it to be here?

Obscene is a pretty broad term Neut not to split hairs here. You're going to get radically different interpretations of what's acceptable and what's not from a variety of people. A fundamentalist Christian may find any oblique reference to sexuality entirely unacceptable while a Quaker would find the violence equally as horrific. I don't suggest Goatse or Tubgirl become a staple here but you have to admit the balance is incredibly skewed on the sex and violence issue. Like Nothingg said, most of the issues here could be fixed by using one's back button if you can't handle the sight of Britney Spears on a Rolling Stone cover which at last glance didn't come out to the newsstands in a brown paper slipcover. Not attacking Mods here, just the lunacy of violence ok sex isn't, my little hate for society's hypocrisy.

I can understand that there will be a wide range of opinion on what constitutes obscenity among different groups and cultures. Only on these boards, the judgement on such things lies with us. That is not to say that other people do not have valid views - as you say, "obscene" has the potential to covers a lot of things, depending on whom you ask, but in the end, it is our call. I can see that you do not mean to challenge that, but I thought it would be a good thing for others to understand.

Just read the thread, and, vexingly, all the "obscene" stuff has been removed.

Dammit.

IIRC, isn't the policy: text is acceptable with a warning in the subject line but pictures are not?

Thats right, I remember Neut saying something about the difference between erotic text and porn.

*muses* Perhaps I shouldn't have gotten that warning after all

Well, I remember reading a thread in NS that was allowed to continue despite the graphic description of several reporters being skinned alive with the epidermis flapping on trees with great aplomb. I fail to see how that's more obscene than erotic text. Perhaps this is a policy which should be better worded? Or maybe an NC-17 label and the wee ones and uptight ones can just not go in. You word the policy properly then you can avoid the graphic painfully detailed letters to Penthouse. Pablo won't get into trouble for alluding to his interest in Tetley's perforated herb dispensers in a discussion thread.

This has been discussed at considerable length in an earlier thread, I believe the consensus was that for graphic descriptions of violence, a prominent warning should be appended to the top of the post.

Cybersex is quite a different category from posts used in an RP for character development and/or political discussion.

I agree with Neut, this is clearly in the rules. We have to trust the Mods judgement and there are never any Serious consequences without repeated warnings...

Not that I'm dragging up the past to haunt you or anything, but I remember you locking for an on-topic comment in a thread about penis envy. How exactly can you discuss that topic without delving into the nature of that... part of the anatomy.

Wow, my post really sent this thread off on a new tangent. Actually I wasn't complaining about the content (I don't read the other forums), I was commenting on all the people that come crying to this forum every time they see something that they think may offend 1 person on this planet. Sure, if someone's posting porn (pictures, not words), or filling your box with worthless TM's then feel free to post a mod alert. But if you get ONE spam TM from somebody, simply put a checkmark in the box and click the little "delete marked telegrams" button and *TA-DA* problem solved. It also bothers me when someone complains that a TM is offensive, then promptly posts the entire thing in the forum. Why is it offensive in your private box, but not on this public board?

OK, off the soapbox.

And BTW
