For future reference

I'm confused by what is considered flaming, or even trolling, now. I thought that outright insults and names, slurs were some of the basic things to avoid, as they pertain to flaming. I'm asking because it seems to be evolving to encompass a broader definition. I'm only asking because I'm truly confused about it now.

I refer you to my Guide to the language of NationStates (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=74603).

Flaming is insulting someone OOCly, ('you are a moron' for example)

Trolling is a different type of flamebait. Flamebait is baiting just the one person, whilst trolling is baiting a whole bunch of people ('All gays must die' and that kind of thing)

It seems like that could cover anything too controversial or unpopular, if you are posting an opinion on a group of people. Thanks for the link. I'll read more of it later.

Good list, although I'm not sure you are right about the difference between flamebaiting and trolling
"trolling" is the sport of posting a ludicrously inaccurate statement that could only be interpreted as a joke (i.e. "During the filming of 'Goldfinger', seven people were accidentally killed by the flying hat.") and then waiting for idiots to post responses along the lines of "I think you are probably joking, but I must demonstrate my superior intellect anyway: 'Goldfinger' was just pretend, and the hat wasn't real."

Flame-baiting is posting YOU SUCK AND SO DOES YOUR COMPUTER...

either way there are probably as many definitions as there are forums, but TG seemd to lock a thread because he thought it would insight an a general flame war, and he called that flame baiting... that doesn't fit your definition.

Sorry for the long post

The definition I've got up there is the one that was agreed by people... I'll put up your definition too soon, as I see trolling must have become synonymous with quite a few things... as for TG, he was slightly off there. The thread was locked for trolling, not flamebait.

That it could. The Nazis and White Supremacists come to my mind as examples.

Politically controversial stuff can be posted, but one should generally be prepared to rationally debate it. If it looks like someone is repeatedly posting controversial stuff merely to make people mad (particularly if the poster consistently fails to respond to attempts to debate what he/she posted), it will be locked and moderator action may be taken.

I would just appreciate balance. But, forget it. Most of the people that try to debate an issue in the vein of a so called Nazi viewpoint, usually end up being called names throughout the "debate". Rarely is anything done about it.

If it is reported in the moderation forum with a hyperlink it will get sorted out as soon as mod sees it.

As a MOD you should ramain impartial and do not post your personal opinions concerning people's beliefs. If you continue to lock threads because you are unable to warn the flamers, then you are dumbasses.

Not quite.

See, we can post either as players or as Mods. If, for example, I wish to post as a Mod, I attach the signature you see at the bottom. If I wish to give a personal opinion, which I am allowed to do, the signature is absent. Thus, I maintain a division between forum debate and my Moderator duties.

Now, I have warned you before. Please do not insult players or Moderators. To bring home the point that this message enjoys official status:

Incidentally: There will be no further warnings.

I believe Cog was attempting to give examples of people who tend to flamebait, not comment on their political/social agenda.

Still, it shows your heightened sence of maturity that you resort to baiting on a thread about baiting. (note the sarcasm)

He's gone! Apperently that was the warning after the last one there, TG. Or has he already done something else?

You're pushing the line yet again. It might be wise for you to take a break from NationStates before you are IP banned.

Learn the rules. Don't push it. Another deletion and you might not be given another chance. In fact, considering that you have lost four nations already, we are being very lenient indeed.

Sometimes, in the course of my Game Mod duties, it becomes necessary to assume the position of founder in a region. In this case, a highly disputed region without a 100% verifiable claim from any group. Thus, I remain founder of the region of Axis, and will until such time as I feel that removing myself will not reap more griefing of the inhabitants thereof.

Although, quite frankly, I dont quite see what that has to do with the deletion of your nations for breaking the rules and ignoring multiple warnings.

Leon Degrelle, Eugene Terre...... This is not an insult towards you. I'm going to assume that English is your second language and you sometimes have a more difficult time expressing yourself because of it. Don't get so frustrated and let the insults flow. It's only futile in the long run and obscures what you really want to say.
