Whiteout and ignore tactics?
If I was wanting to show that I was ignoring someone, would deleting or using [color=white] tags be an acceptable way of doing so? Previously used on Christofi et al without mod intervention, can we take it that its okay?

You do realize that you have to use [color=white], not [colour=white]? The phpBB people were American, it seems...
That's funny...

I would advise actually ignoring someone rather than rubbing their face into it in this manner.
"Think about it for a moment."
Okay, I've reviewed the topic and issued warnings as appropriate.
However, SMB, you should keep in mind that a lot of this animosity against you is due to your own rulebreaking. If you are going to stick around, I would strongly recommend that you try harder to be more apologetic to everyone you've annoyed.
Now, I expect people to stop flaming SMB. If he breaks any more rules, bring it to the mods attention either through the Moderation forum or with a mod/alert signal. Don't rub his face in it. Don't flame or spam him in response. Just report it and he will be dealt with accordingly.
Beeker, I suggest that you start your topic over fresh.

I agree with Cogitation.
Also, if all you're doing is quoting them as blank, and not actually adding anything to the thread, that would smell very similar to spam...

Okay, I've conferred with the other moderators about IGNORE campaigns. The guidelines are as follows:
A valid "ignore post" is either a post consisting of a blank quote with no text added OR a post that formally states that you've chosen to ignore a particular person. You may not post taunts of any kind; it has to be either a blank post with a blank quote or a post that simply states "I am ignoring so-and-so."
Once you've decided to ignore a particular person, you may post once in the forums to announce this decision on your part. After that, you may not issue an "ignore post" against that person again UNLESS the target posts in a thread that you started. You may then issue an additional "ignore post" against that person in your thread.
If the target continues to post in your thread, you may issue additional "ignore posts", but don't go crazy in doing so.
If it's not your thread, you may not issue additional "ignore" posts.
As noted by Salusa, these are guidelines, not rules.

No offence intended to the Mods, but I can't help chuckling at the need to post rules on ignoring people!!

There goes my 2 cents: I'm ignoring Neutered Sputniks!

Okay, now I probably deserve a warning of Cog (bacause I answer you), but since this is only a game, and you cant punish me in RL, I can ignore you everywhere and simply face the consequences. And from now on, I stick to my word!

Technically, one can ignore those too. One must simply understand the cost of such a foolish action...

I know I can ignore actions too. I am smart enough to know that you can't ignore the consequences. For instance; How could I ignore deletion , or a ban?! If I ever brake the rules in any way, I would accept the consequences, no matter how harsh they may be.
I am a honest person, and I always speak my mind. You can't imagine how hard ignoring is for me.

Seriously, though, I thought it needed clarification. The last time this sort of thing was done, I was either not active on the NationStates forums or it was not extensively discussed in Technical or Moderation and thus never came to my attention. So, to me, IGNORE campaigns such as organized by Spoffin were completely new to me.
Also, at least one person was posting "ignore" posts that included taunts. I wanted to put a stop to that. (Those of you who know who I'm talking about: Please don't mention their name. I already issued an official warning for which that person apologized; there's no need to drag it out further.)

Nice set of rules. I was wondering where we stood on that. Sometimes I feel a blank quote is in order, but many other times, much as I would like to, I cannot bring myself to bump the thread, if it is too far gone. Life became so much easier a couple of months ago, when I started ignoring the Nazis for real. I have never looked back.

One point regarding the rules. The moderators do reserve the ability to to make judgement calls. These are far less rules than guidelines for actions.

Ah, yes, sorry about that. These are, indeed, guidelines, not rules. If we feel that these guidelines are being abused, somehow, then we will change them accordingly.
/me goes to edit his post to remove the word "rules".

I think the point is , these are basic guideline suggestions. As Cog has said, if it's abused that's another story, also it is usually at the discretion of the mod who is looking into a problem. Blatant white out spamming will most likely be frowned upon.. However in my opinion, if you're going to ignore a person.. the best way to do that.. is to ignore them. LOL

I see the "ignoring" thing as a polite way of avoiding an escalation of things. It's just a friendly sugestion, not a rule (For heaven's sake!).
