I've noticed that Neut and Hack seem to have a sort of odd respect for the modater Raeyvn, which is part of what made it occur to me.

In general, brown-nosers are most favored by the mods. I've yet to see a mod tell one of these fools to remove their lips from his ass.

That is odd. :?
All of the mods that I've seen ('K Hack and Neut are the only ones I've seen brown-nosed extesively) seemed very annoyed at the brown-nosers.

Define this brown-nosing. I have been acused of it in the past, and I found it quite confusing. Do we really live in a world where paying someone a sincere compliment is viewed as brown-nosing? Is it just because the mods are viewed as authority figures? Is my praising a mod any different than praising a fellow player? I just happen to be a person who believes in positive feedback. If someone does something I like, I try to give them some positive re-inforcment in hopes that they will do it again. Is this really brown-nosing even if I have nothing to gain from it?

Nyborg's right. Depends on how you define "brown noser". Like "godmoder" it tends to be tossed around far too frequently.

There are a few nations here who consider anyone who says something vaguely positive about the mods (ie: "Thanks for bringing back my country") is a brownnoser. Needless to say, that's silly. That's just being polite, and I have no problems with it.

Now then, the shameless suck-ups, where it's blatently obvious to everyone what's going on... well, that I can't stand. I've never cared for suck-ups, nor shameless flatery. Largely because such practices are predicated on the concept that I'm too stupid to see through it. Obviously, I don't care to have my intelligence insulted.

As for modhaters... well, there's degrees of that too. There are people who frequently question the mods (say, Lemmingcus, or Nothingg, or even Ackbar), but I wouldn't say they hate the mods. Or the so-called "institution" of moderation. I take their comments as sometimes annoying or frustration, but made with the general intent of making things better.

But, just as there as dedicated suck-ups, there are dedicated haters too (such as Sheol). Unfortunately, this is an area where I have to tread carefully. Notice how I mentioned an ex-nation only. I don't want to call out nations that I feel fit into this category, for obvious reasons. At any rate, the nations in this category have a deep seated hatred for some or all of the mods, for a variety of reasons. Oftentimes people in this category got torqued out of shape because they were picked to be a mod. Or, they feel that because they were around before a certain mod, they have some sort of "grandfather" clause and can ignore the mod in question. (Some dolt tried this with Reploid. He was a whole week older...) And, of course, you've got people who have nothing better to do than bitch about how a free game doesn't live up to their expectations; the people who feel they should be able to do whatever they want, and feel that the mods are The Man; the people who got punished for breaking the rules and decide to take it out on the mods because somehow its our fault; the people who really have nothing better to do, and seem to get their kicks out of complaining; the list goes on.

Who do I hate more? Well, the people who thank me when I do something, or even post a random "Hey, not everyone hates you" thread I don't really mind. Just as the questioning folk on the "hater" side. The qustioners may become more aggrivating, but they bring good points to the table.

As for rampant suck-ups, or the people who constantly bitch about every mod (or, even worse, bitch when someone says "thank you"), I... well, being an impartial mod, I have no opinion on such wastes of carbon.

Needless to say, every mod probably has one or two people who they'd just assume see quit the game, but I wager every player can think of a few people they'd just assume not see anymore.

Clear things up a bit?

I would consider myself to be someone who speaks against mod actions, not mods. I do not hate them, just sometimes I hate their actions. This is something that I see to be tolerable, as long as I do not go off flaming the mods.

I'm with MGH. It all depends on the maturity of the player. I can't stand brownnosers, however, I can't stand people who criticize mods just to criticize us. It is the players that are mature, honest, and constructive, no matter if they are thanking me, offering a bit of advice to us, or criticizing us, that I like to have around. Some of our common critics are players I like to see on the forums because I know that they have good points to make and I read their posts carefully so that I can improve.

Why? Because mods can't be everywhere at the same time, and when someone is going out of his/her way to be annoying, they get clued in?

no i think they mean the players who do it for vendetta or for silly things.

hang on a sec i'll go find the url...

Clear things up a bit?

I would define brownoser as somebody who constantly goes out of their way to flatter the mods whenever they get the chance, tripping ove their own feet in a failed effort to curry favor. Not many of those left, it seems that te come in waves.

Thanks

Yep.

I don't particuarly like either (extreme end), but I do think that it is fun to watch the brownosers.

I more mean the ones that go out of their way, scan every thrwad, just to find anyone breaking the rules in the slightest way, then make a pain of themselves in the thread. Theres no need for that.

I also am in agreement with Hack and Sal.

I hope that most players notice I simply dont feel the need to allow others to insult my intelligence by attempting to BS myself. I'm far too intelligent, and been around the block way too many times to allow it to fly.

When I am complimented by mature players who really are grateful it's very satisfying. However, when all the other true brownnosers jump on the bandwagon I am disgusted in the way most people would be after watching a masterpiece of Leonardo Da Vinci, or Michelangelo, or any of the other great masters defecated on and then framed in a gaudy gold-painted wood frame.

Many players just hate the Mods (like Sheol) because we're the authority figure and society is all about fighting "the Man" these days. I'd prefer they all just disappear, and if I really was as horrible as everyone claims there would be quite a few less nations posting in the forums regularly.

Others, such as Ackbar, Nothingg, Leemingcus, etc often bring good points to discussions - sometimes not in an entirely peaceful manner, or even in a manner I appreciate, but they're simply trying to improve the game/site. I know I'll catch flak for this, but I do appreciate their ideas - even if I disagree and sometimes feel the need to get onto them.

Bottom line: whether the general populace (you guys) choose to believe it or not, the Mods are quite intelligent peoples (and computer programs). As such we see through just about all the BS and appreciate those whom are truly attempting to make this site better. Just the same, we despise those we see attempting to further their own personal agendas at the expense of others.
