I would not like someone I know on here getting toasted because of a spammer. Where IP bans are concerned, I want them to be given a very high priority, but at the same time urge caution.
You can just ban the particular IP range that the griefer is on. This usually just means banning the router he connects to. One or two innocent people may get banned also..
