Updated: Questions about two locked threads, not one.

So, this was over the line? Was it the cover of the Rolling Stone Magazine which made someone lock it?

...and while I'm here I might as well ask why this thread was considered lockable of all the threads going on? Is vegetarian food offensive? :?

The mods have obviously decided to ignore my advice for them to moderate a little more moderately, and have instead decided to become more immoderate. These thread locks were nothing short of arbitrary.

i am with you, BMV.
these two threads were harmless amusement.
much more offensive (and inane) things go on every day on NS.
these in fact are the sorts of threads i most enjoy.
harmless frivolity.
no flaming, trolling, endless yammering about unconvincing ideologies and prejudicies.

these two locked threads were refreshing relief from all that.

and no explanation was even given.

A case of Divide and Conquer, perhaps?

They are tending to lock threads that they personally disagree with, for whatever reason.

And that surprises you why?

It doesn't anymore. It would just be refreshing if they would admit that only people with a very specific ideology or views are welcome here.

I have spoken with the moderator who locked those threads.

The first thread was locked for sexual content; please remember that we do have children viewing these boards.

The second topic was locked for being off-topic. Those who wish to continue the second discussion may start a new thread about food.

Ok lets divide this into two separate cases.

1.
The first thread, the Britney Spears thread was locked for sexual content. I'm afraid I don't understand what "sexual content" means in this case. Is nudity = sexual content? There is an issue in this game regarding nudity mentioning Hooters (which is a place with bare breasted women, right?) and I'm sure you all have seen this. So discussing nudity itself cannot really be a crime here, can it?

Or was it the cover of The Rolling Stones magazine that constituted "sexual content"? Is it an adult magazine? I thought it was a music magazine and I didn't think you needed to be 18 or 20 years old to buy it? Or even 15? Sexual content? Do you know what it means? I sure don't anymore and I would appreciate a definition. Otherwise I will probably continue to break the rules unknowingly.

2.
The second thread was locked for being off-topic? Please don't do that, at least not in general unless the creator of the thread asks to. It only causes confusion since a lock = something wrong. Threads like this one, which have what you once called topic evolution (see link below) shouldn't be locked. If you lock one, you need to lock all and I don't think you want to have that situation, because this happens all the time in general (except for the usual hate threads that goes on exactly the same forever), and if you hardly spend any time in general you won't see this. We who live in general see the locked threads and sporadicly locking a thread like this only creates mistrust, thoughts about trigger happiness etc.

Needles to say, I wish that both threads are reopened. I think the reasons given for locking are poor to say the least. I know that no one wants to overrule a collegue, but I am far from convinced so far, that these two locks were justified.

Think about it.

Best regards, BMV

I am discussing these cases with the other mods and admin right now. When the details have been cleared up among us, you will be notified about the decision.

It has been decided that the Britney Spears topic was close to the line in terms of sexual content, but did not cross that line.

It has been decided that natural topic evolution is acceptable while deliberate topic hijacking is not.

On this basis, another mod has unlocked both topics (so don't thank me  ). Discussion may continue in both threads as before.
