I'm just wondering...

I see a lot of people complaining about the mods having taken a disciplinary action against them, which is no surprise. What I find confusing is that a lot of the things that players allege are the reasons for the disciplinary action are things that I've done a lot and never been bothered for - like starting utterly pointless threads or making a lot of polls. Do the mods like me, are other people not telling the whole story, or do other people just do crazier things than me so the mods don't even notice me?

Are you suggesting that perhaps we should look into your posting history, that perhaps we missed some thing?

You say that in jest, but I would like to take that suggestion seriously.

Someone who doesn't have sufficient regard for the rules might want to keep on with their current behavior and try to hide those activities from the mods. Such a person wouldn't want to draw attention to their posting history.

This person, on the other hand, seems sincere in trying to follow the rules and is asking about how to avoid violating them.

"Think about it for a moment."

Zincite, give me hyperlinks to topics that you're not sure about and I'll tell you if you violated any rules and what you should do in the future to remain in compliance.

Mostly I just start silly threads when I'm bored and have nothing better to do than be on the computer, and most of my topics have polls on them.

More than that, I was just wondering how much people aren't bringing to light when they complain. If I take every complaint I've seen on here as true, then people are getting deleted without warning for starting too many polls, are bugged by a moderator anytime they put out an extreme political viewpoint, and are held to excruciating standards of what is spam. I know that's not what's actually happening.

So I guess I'm wondering, where is the line between attaching a poll to nearly every topic I start, and the Satan Awards? Between starting a thread about my homework or finding chocolate in my sock drawer, and spamming the boards? And where did someone get the idea that everyone with extreme politics gets a warning? ( see my post on that here (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=68125))

Well, if you start 10-20 new threads in a very short time-frame, that's a hint that you're spamming.

When the majority of the first page of a forum is threads started by you, that's a hint.

When you're gleefully starting threads and seeing that they're being locked as you make them, that's a hint.

In other words, silly threads, or putting a poll on most every thread probably won't be a problem. When you're posting a poll a minute, we've got problems.

Or, as Aristotle said, "All things in moderation," heh...

Okay, thanks. That makes sense.
