My flatmate and I both control a nation. But whenever we join the UN we get kicked out. I know this is to stop cheating but is thee any way round this. Please help.

If you're playing from the same computer (or, more specifically, the same Internet Protocol (IP) address), then there is no way around this.
I'm sorry, but this is the only way ot enforce the rules.

The only real way around this would be to get two computers with two different internet connections...rather expensive IMHO.
some people take turns every month I think
