Let's see a Conservative Mod!

Fantasan

It's been a while since we saw anyone with Conservative politics be made a Mod. It's about time we had at least 1 forum Mod who was a Conservative. We need one to balance Stephistan, who is a professed liberal. As no person, no matter how good, can truly be 100% impartial, we need mods from all aspects of the political spectrum to create a balance. We need a new Conservative Mod!

Agrigento is a good candidate, as an active player who is considerate of others.

I hope this request is taken seriously and not mocked or ridiculed.

Am I not conservative enough for you? Or is it just that I'm too unbiased when I moderate and therefore you find me liberal (as I moderate more liberally than you would like)?

Oh, I didn't mean to say there weren't Conservative mods. I have just noticed the most recent bunch have been predominantly liberal, so the next couple should be Conservative for balance.

It's not a HUGE problem really, not unless the mods delete posts by conservative nations. The Don't really do that. At least not as I've seen.

The point was that no matter where we all lie on the political spectrum, when it comes to Modding, we are as impartial as possible, therefore, adding more Mods to balance the political spectrum is hardly necessary.

More Mods are conservative than liberal at this time, or so I believe. However, since none act in the extremes either way, we're seen as being the opposite of whoever is criticizing the Mod.

I consider myself a right-of-center moderate libertarian.....but as Neut said, nobody gets preference when it comes to modding.

Oh this is pathetic. How visible is the political bias of the NS mods? From my view, there is no political bias in NS. For people who claim to be against affirmative action, this is ridiculous.

Neut is conservative. Karma is a "right of center moderate libertarian." And this how Hack is described in the stickied NationStates Player Profiles thread:

The Technocratic Oligarchy of the Most Glorious Hack
Real Name: Carl
Age: 26
General Location: Chicago, Illinois
General Political Affiliation [if any]: Conservative

Here is SLAG's self-description from the same thread:

The Slagged Lands of The SLAGLands
Real Name: Bill Bicknell
Age: 20
General Location: Dayton, Ohio
General Political Affiliation [if any]: Libertarian

That makes three conservative, "right-of-center mods," or "libertarian" mods--four non-liberals. There are probably more. However, I don't know the political affiliations of more than a couple of the other mods. Stephistan is liberal. Enodia says in the player profiles that he's been known to espouse Marxist ideas. That's two confirmed left-of-center mods, and there might be others that I don't know about. Neut says above that he believes that there are more conservative than liberal mods, and he would know better than Fantasan or me.

For Fantasan to have a point that the mods need "balancing," he has to prove a.) That there is a serious imbalance in favor of liberals among mods, and b.) That the mods' political affiliations have a significant effect on their mod duties. He hasn't proven either, in my opinion. The only evidence he cites is that one liberal--Stephistan--was recently promoted to mod. That's not enough.

I would like to see a mod who holds some religious views quite strongly but that is purely for representation of nations like me. Whether they were the best candidate or not would be the more important of the two and I would rather have a fair non-religious mod than a maniac fundamentalist-mod.

I cannot believe this. Most of the Mods don't even debate in the General Forum, so how can anyone claim to know their political leanings? One exception springs to mind, but so what? They do not go about censoring right-wing views, you only have to look at General to see that. I think some people automatically see the incumbent as Liberal, and their preferred candidate as the ray of hope. That's just a perception thing.

You forgot right-wing libertarian - or how about an objectivist. That's my choices.

Apart from there being a National Socialist mod, what I would really like to see is a mod from somewhere other than America! (Preferably the UK)

Fantasan I realize it's obvious that I'm a liberal based on how I vote and what resolutions I support at the UN. However, please don't think that is how I mod, because it's not. I try to be as fair as possible whether I personally disagree with you or not is irrelevant. I mod according to the rules the best I can, without letting my own personal politics factor in. I just wanted to make sure you understood that.

Thanks.

Stephanie.

There seems to be a bit of a 'movement' against you. I keep reading snide comments about you. I am no more a mod fan than anyone else, having been brutally murdered myself. But don't let the bastards get to you. Please explain and apologise less. This post won't help you, 'cos I'm supposed to be a pinko raving lefty.

I'm not kidding when I say that it's been a while since I've seen a level headed conservative on this forum. Mind you most no one seems fit for the job in my eyes although I agree with most if not all of the current appointments. It happens that there are many more liberal players on this site, thereby shifting the chance that a liberal will be chosen for moderator over a conservative up based simply on population and the probability of finding a suitable candidate.

Besides, you'll make such a stink about any mod "abusing" his or her powers that none of them could get away with moderating for their beliefs even if they wanted to.

Actually, GMC is from the UK, Enodia is an Aussie, Steph and Menelmacar are both Canadians...so, that makes approx 1/4 - 1/3 of the Mods not from the US. Hmm, I wonder how the percentages of the locations of all players would play out - my bet would be somewhere close to that.

Ah good lord. This should have nothing to do with who becomes a mod. It should be who deserves it, period.
11-09-2003, 02:20
Slightly over 1/3 of the active mods I can think of aren't American.

The political spread is all over the board; the only thing really in common to the mods is that they tend to be responsible and thoughtful. If that rules out what Fantasan thinks of as conservative, then I wouldn't want to see any mods Fantasan considered conservative.

What? You're against the recall election and Arnold Schwarzenegger? Aha! A liberal; rant rave rant rave!

(Please accept this as the comic relief it was meant to be.)
