Border between Fangen and Atlaga
Craggy mountains frame sparse valleys as a military convoy winds its way down a lonely highway. The convoy, part of a construction battalion from the Atlagan military, is heading to the small border town of Lahnjen, which is being fortified in response to Fangian buildup across the Loor River gorge. Lahnjen sits on the Atlagan side of the gorge, at the end of one of the two highway bridges in the region, its opposite number, the Fangian village of Derncht, is completely fortified and has military forces garrisoned within. The two countries have had diplomatic squabbles in the past, primarily over the rich copper mining in the region, but now a new and unstable regime has taken over the governing of Fangen and nothing can be predicted.
The Atlagan convoy reaches Lahnjen at dusk, and reports to the Major in charge of the construction, the half-finished fortifications spiking up out of the earth. A roll of thunder can be heard of in the distance, in the direction of Fangen. The cloudless sky betrays the nature of the noise- a salvo of artillery which thuds into the earth and shreds soldiers. The distant noise of armored columns moving up the gorge bridge can be distantly heard as the Atlagan forces call for backup. By nightfall, Lahnjen is in Fangian hands and Atlagan columns from the south have met probing Fangian reconnaissance units. The border skirmish had borne something much greater.
