The Finest Ship in the Fleet <History, FT>

2499.76: The Mewsland starship Voyager <MCC-1701> is completed and is placed under the command of <then> High Admiral Mew Mæow II. Mew had not been in command of a starship since the Concord <MCC-1054-A>, which exploded in 2472, 27 years beforehand. The new class of ship was also untested, except for one prototype, the Intrepid <MCC-1700>.

2501.19: The first six year mission begins after Voyager is deemed spaceworthy. The starship, fresh out of testing of her state-of-the-art superluminal drive, was promptly dispatched to the newly-discovered Galaxy IOK-1, on the other side of the known universe.

2507.22: Voyager returns from IOK-1 back to the Kaliem Galaxy, known to outsiders as the Mewsland Galaxy due to Mewsland having full control. The mission is deemed successful as 7 First Contacts were made.

2507.61: Major repairs made due to damage by skirmishes with pirates.

2508.07: Repairs completed.

2508.73: Voyager's second six-year run is spent in Kaliem, when the black hole at the center showed signs that it could re-awaken. This was later dismissed as background radiation "goofing up" the sensor platforms. Remainder of six-year run spent studying radiation patterns emanating from Kaliem's supermassive black hole.

<2510: Relations between Mewsland's central government and the planet Laurentia, a planet of Mewsland, begin to degrade. This will manifest later in history.>

2515.01: Second six-year run ends late when Voyager's superluminal matrix failed. <Planned end date 2514.85>

2515-2516: Crew on shore leave, slight redo of ship's systems.

2516.59: 12 year run for cataloging nebulae and gaseous anomalies in Kaliem and Milky Way galaxies. Many space-faring civilizations in Milky Way baffled by strange ships.

2528.21: 12 year run ends early due to planned refit.

<2528.35: Mew is named President of the Federation while still holding his command of Voyager.>

<2528.26-2529.63: Major refit 1: Ship overhauled, creating a new class of ships all its own.>

2529.71: Uh-oh! A major bug in the refit computer causes a cascade failure, tripping the self-destruct. Only one half of saucer destroyed, however, the explosion knocked the starship out of orbit of Kardon IV, nearly burning up before being rescued by the Intrepid.

2530.89: All bugs repaired, refit Voyager is deemed spaceworthy.

<2531.16: All contact lost with Laurentia.>

<2531.21: Laurentian starships are turned against the Government, Laurentian Uprising begins.>

2531.39: Voyager and Laurentian starships face off in the Battle of Carina VI. Battle is a total victory for the government as the Laurentian force is repelled.

2531.55: Laurentian Uprising ends as Mewsland starships enter the Laurentian system and force the rebels to stand down.

2545.63: Warp 9.999 races begin between Mewsland and Interstellar Galactic Republic of Pennsylvania. <Friendly Rivals>

2556.71: After several more runs and 25 First Contacts, a second refit is in order. <Vessel In Distress>

2558.41 IGRPS vessel Constellation destroyed in Warp 9.999 races. <Friendly Rivals>

2558.61: Great Battle of 2558 <Vessel In Distress>

2558.69: Battle of Andromeda begins, Present Day <Vessel In Distress>

First, I'd like to hand out some praise. I edit novels for publishing houses, and, between that and this forum, it is very, very, VERY rare for me to find something this clean. No grammatical gaffes. Truly amazing. Hats off, Mewsland.

Second, I'd like to say something that you're probably not going to like. It cheapens your work that you take pictures from Star Trek and try to slap a Mewsland label on them. Certainly, it is copyright infringement to take pictures of the TOS Enterprise and the ship from "The Wrath of Kahn" and pretend that they are pictures of your ship. Please try to be a little more original with your graphics.

Finally, I'd like to say that you do a good job on your surface issues, but you need to go a little deeper. What makes Mewsland different from other cultures? What do they take pride in? What makes them good allies? Bad enemies? What terms do they see the world around them in? How did this get to be so?

Take, for example, the Metal Man. He is an pacifist warrior. He got that way when, at age nine, he was abducted from Earth and forcibly cybernated. The creatures that did this had no problem with reckless violence--they were in a state of perpetual war with anything they came in contact with. They lived by the sword, and, eventually, they died by the sword. He vowed never to allow war to erupt when peace could be at hand. It became his life's work.

There is something set indelibly in this character's soul that makes him what he is.

What is set indelibly into the soul of Voyager?

1) Thanks.

2) It's still early in my designs... the finished products will be only slightly similar to these pics.

3) This isn't history of the whole of Mewsland, it's just one darn ship.

4) Well done.

5) Very well said.

6) Oh. Nothing much, except that Voyager is the best ship in the history of Mewsland! It's done the most work, had the hardest jobs <notably the attacks on Laurentia>, and assisted Mewsland in making many allies.

RE: #6. Old writer's addage: "Don't tell, show." What is it about Voyager that has allowed it to succeed in these difficult tasks where a lesser ship might not have?
