Mythrandir

The winter of Hera and Atrox's stay amongst the Myths had come and passed with the changing of the seasons. Snows melted and friends parted with promises to meet again someday. Upon spring's wake, new life flourished through the countryside. Flowers climbed towards the sun and opened their glorious blossoms for all the world to see and enjoy.

Seeds from the local farmers and homesteads were sown into Mythrandir's fertile soil. By mid-spring, green shoots were already starting to poke their way up through the earth. Come summer, the harvest would be bountiful and taken just in time for the harvest festival on the eave of every autumn.

Fruit was already in abundance for the picking and the apple orchards around the White Tower in the main city were prime spots for Mythrandir's citizens to pick apples at will and enjoy the weather. Children ran through the rows of trees laughing with glee as they chased one another while concerned parents called out to them.

And so it was on such a day that Elder Sebastian along with his wife, Sarah, were out in the orchards amongst the people that they served. With them was the dark elf War Mistress Shizra who was friend to both Sarah and Sebastian as well as at times serving as a personal guard of sorts.

Despite what some might have seen as a high ranking in society as the wife of the Elder, Sarah was quite content with working in the fields and gardens bringing beauty with her every touch. Today was no different as she spied a ruby red apple high in the boughs of one of the trees. Handing the woven basket to her husband, Sarah mounted the tree and began a determined climb upward.

Her path was chosen carefully as she moved with the grace of a woman that had done something similar countless times as a young girl. Sebastian could only look on as he shook his head at the sight of his wife. Sarah had just managed to reach the top and pluck the prized apple from the limb.

"Alright Queen of the Apples. You got what you were looking for. Mind coming down now?"

Sarah smiled mischievously to herself and let go of the branch she was resting on. Wind rushed through her hair as she fell towards the ground. Sebastian let out a yelp and dropped the basket he was holding, spilling the apples across the ground, and rushed towards his wife. The Elder managed to just reach her in time and caught her in his arms.

"You are insane!" The Elder glared down at the woman.

Sarah merely smiled and took a generous bit from the apple. There was a loud crack as her pearl white teeth punctured the skin and dug into the soft innards of the fruit. Juice fell from the corner of her mouth and hung at her chin.

"Nice catch."

Wiping away the juice from the corner his wife's mouth, "Very attractive."

Sebastian helped her stand upright then focused his attention on the dark elf standing to his side with her arms crossed. "Shizra tell me, do I have anything else planned for the rest of the day? I'm afraid too much more excitement and I may have a heart attack."

"One of our messengers is being dispatched to New Dornalia at the moment to invite them for official talks on an alliance." Her tone was flat and matter of fact as she had to wonder, as she often did, if these two humans were ever sane around one another.

"Oh good! So the others managed to agree on the proposal." Sebastian beamed at the bit of good news that his proposal of ally Mythrandir with member nations of the Rangers had not fallen on deaf ears.

Shizra walked with the Elder as motion often seemed to help Sebastian think. "There was not much of a debate over these people since they do not seem overly threatening. We haven't had any rumors of New Dornalia invading other nations and they seem relatively peaceful. Even Elder Alurial could not argue against them."

"I see. Well then we have much to prepare for." Sebastian helped his wife pick up the apples that were dropped from the basket and the trio headed inside the White Tower to prepare for guests that were sure to arrive soon.

----

As it had been decreed by the Elders, a messenger was dispatched to the realm of New Dornalia and a world they called Earth. Invitations of importance were often done in person out of respect. A small ship exited the Warp above Earth and asked for permission to land on behalf of the Elders of Mythrandir.

Once allowed to land, the messenger asked permission to speak to the head of New Dornalia in order to deliver the urgent message. Understandably time was taken for security and practical reasons but the griffon exercised patience befitting his race.

As soon as the avian lord was permitted an audience, he offered the sealed scroll that had been kept in his talon grasp since the beginning of the mission. The scroll bore the wax emblem of the rising phoenix which was frequent on Mythrandir ships and their banners.

Greetings to the nations among the stars.

Out of a sense of brotherhood that has now formed within the Rangers as citizens of our respective nations join together for a common purpose, it is out of that sentiment that we extend this invitation to you. Let us come together at a time of peace under a banner of friendship and seek to build one another up.

There is much we can gain from one another and learn. By building strong ties amongst our people with one another, it is our help that the bonds formed will be able to weather the dark days and storms that are surely to come just as the bright peaceful days. We await your presence in the White Tower.

The message, having come so far, inevitably found its way through the busy LA traffic to the hands of Robert MacIntyre. The Comrade Premier was well into a busy election season, and as such, was terribly busy. However, the Comrade Premier did take the time to rest and relax, especially since he couldn't be out working Caprican pancake breakfasts or speaking in a Catholic mission or building houses all the time. Thusly, he was found working the hotlines in his house in Monterey Park, the Presidential House.

Miss Sixpence, MacIntyre's indominatble secretary, called for the Comrade Premier, who promptly finished the call he was attending to and allowed the griffon to enter his office, after a brief inspection by the Red Detachment guards and provisions to set up a call from Admiral De Bruyn, who was the real head of New Dornalia right at this moment.

Upon entry and a customary bow and handshake, the Comrade Premier and the Admiral on a nearby viewscreen examined the scroll. Mac read its contents with a paitent attention to detail. Evidently, Mac wasn't interested in slacking off, despite all the other things he had to do.

"Well, sir. This is an honor. However, if I may say....New Dornalia and the Twelve Colonies of Kobol have merged, thus forming the United Colonies of Kobol. As such, there's been a change in government, especially with recent elections. However, I can direct you to the new management, although sadly, it cannot be in person. I apologize for that."

Turning to the viewscreen, De Bruyn nodded. Greeting the envoy with a "Good day" and a bow of sorts, he then asked to see the document again, which was done briefly. Stroking his goatee, De Bruyn then replied with a simple, "Tell the Elders that the White Tower will be soon graced with our presence, and that we thank them for sending two envoys personally to greet us. It is again, a shame I could not be here in person, but I had to oversee the transition into democracy. A big job, requiring my attention on site.

Now, I just have one thing to ask--we can send the envoys on your vessel, or on ours. Which would you prefer?"

The griffon wrapped his feathery wings around his body and bowed curtly at the introduction. As he stood once again to his full stature, an amber swirling gem attached to a silver chain around his neck began pulsating with energy. High pitched bird-like chirps sounded from the throat of the griffon.

A gravelly voice drowned out the undecipherable noise as the jewel around the griffon's neck began translating the dialect.
"It would be more practical for you to transport yourself as my ship would be unable to transport a second person. All that is asked is that whatever craft lands upon our planet be unarmed as well as whoever steps foot on our soil. We do not allow weapons that you are accustomed to on our world.

It is asked as a simple gesture of faith in our honesty and a showing of your goodwill towards a peaceful meeting. Your protection shall be guaranteed once you enter Mythrandir space."

At that, De Bruyn and Mac nodded, De Bruyn going, "It shall be so. I have no intention of abusing anyone's trust or goodwill, and it shall remain that way. We will send our envoys posthaste."

With that, an unarmed Raptor shuttle, bearing two unarmed representatives, one Dornalian and one Colonial, headed to Myth space. Upon arrival at the edge, they identified themselves as the diplomats which the Elders sought to meet for the conference. Having said that and passed through any security checks necessary, they landed on the world, awaiting what happened next.

Upon the arrival of the Earth and Colonial representatives, they would be greeted by the site of a peaceful world that was content in its own small corner of the universe. Ships loaded with trade goods moved to and from the blue gem that was their world while military vessels sat guard over their prized home and kept a constant vigilance. Defense towers orbited just above the atmosphere as well though no life flowed through their circuits on this typical day. As the Raptor approached closer, scanners from the First Fleet picked up the ship's arrival and alerted the commander of the fleet.

"Contact. Shuttle approximately twenty leagues out and approaching from fifteen degrees off our horizon."

Haldir had been appointed Admiral of the First Fleet and over the Forge Navy after successfully fending off an invasion by a more technologically advanced nation. The elf had become the first Admiral those many years ago and was thus charged with protecting Mythrandir from then on. Sitting now on the ship's throne, the elven Admiral recognized the Elders' guests had arrived.

"Hail them."

A quick message was dispatched to the small shuttle asking it to identify itself. Once the Raptor replied with a message confirming that they were in fact the expected guests, Admiral Haldir's image flashed with the responding message. Blond hair fell about golden armored shoulder plates connecting to a similar tinted breast plate with the phoenix emblazoned at its center. The fair face stared back through the port.

"This is Admiral Haldir of the First Fleet. I welcome you to Mythrandir and hope you enjoy your stay. As you are the only diplomats this day, a landing zone has been reserved for you in the gardens near the White Tower itself. Please use caution over the populace."

Once the transmission ended, holographic flames ignited in space and revealed the proper path that would lead the representatives to the super continent below. During the decent, the shuttle was pass through wispy clouds in the spring time sky and would soon reveal portrait landscape for the passengers. Green fertile fields flowed over much of the land with mountains severing the northern tundra from the rest of the lands. Thick forests prevailed in the northeast and along the mountains as they were home to the light elves of the land.

But rushing closer to the craft was the walled city of Mythrandir that dominated the south eastern coast of the continent. A tall spire dominated the cityscape with its four massive golem sentries standing guard on each side of the tower. Long golden capes adorned the armor giants as they stood as silent guardians.

Flower hedges and trees began dancing as the Raptor made its landing in the small clearing. Guards were stationed to greet the representatives and usher them inside the tower. Seeing the two diplomats step onto the grassy surface, guards snapped to attention and saluted in Mythrandir fashion by placing a fist over their heart and bowing.

The armor troop lead the way through rose walls, fruit trees, and other more exotic forms of vegetation until they reached the cobble stone walkway to the tower. Armored guards stood at the ready on both sides of the heavy double oaken doors. At the site of the procession, the guards on duty hurried to open the doors and clear the way for the Elders' guests.

Perhaps surprising to some was the fact that the guards did not stop to search for weapons on the diplomats. However, Citadel Guards had no intention of letting anything happen to the Elders. Scanners had been discreetly placed in the door frames as well as within the walls of the hall to ensure that no weapons or anything lethal was allowed near the Mythrandir leaders. The tradition of hospitality was valued enough that they did not wish to appear rude or not trusting to foreign guests.

As they entered the main hall, the lead Citadel Guard announced each foreign guest by name and title to the Elders. The Elders themselves sat in silver tear dropped shaped thrones that hovered just off the stone floor. Seating had also been arranged for the ambassadors and Elder Sebastian bade them to sit.

Standing behind the Elders was a particular lethal dark elf with twin scimitars sheathed at her sides. War Mistress Shizra studied the ambassadors as they sat and rested her wrists easily on the pommels of her blades. Next to the dark elf was a more benign looking creature with long brown hair and a simple earthen green dress that stopped just above her ankles. Sebastian's wife, Sarah, wore a pleasant smile as she watched the proceedings.

Sebastian smiled as he raised his hand in greeting. "Welcome to our world. Allow me to make the introductions here. I am Elder Sebastian representing the human tribes of this world. Next to me is Elder Thrandur of the dwarven clans. Further down you Elder Alurial and she represents both the light and dark elves on this council. The last in line is Elder Raigar representing the grifffons here and on their home world, Thralk.

I am pleased and honored that you agreed to our request. After having the Rangers spend some time upon our world, I felt that any nation that would allow its citizens to partake in a cause dedicated to keeping order and peace in the universe, could not be ideologically so far from our own. I believe Christopher Markham was the Ranger from Earth and served well as they all did and received citations from us for their actions. Generally in times like these where we are at peace, we offer up trade of goods as well as offering that chance for your people to visit Mythrandir if they desired.

But it seems some matters have changed. We were not aware that Earth had joined with a confederation. Perhaps you could enlighten us on this development?"

But it seems some matters have changed. We were not aware that Earth had joined with a confederation. Perhaps you could enlighten us on this development?"

The Myth homeworld struck the Colonial team as something different, to say the least.

For the Colonial, it was a strange new experience. However, he was strangely more fascinated with the place than slightly confused. Being raised on Aeralon, he appreciated the pastoral environs, and the quaintness of the setting. And, the elves...well, the "Abhs," as the Colonial term for any sort of Elven person went, Abh or not, weren't much of a surprise. He regarded them merely as different sorts of Abhs, nothing more. And, with the Dornalian next to him to vouch for them, he felt assured these were people he could sort of trust.

The Dornalian, meanwhile, wasn't an old hand at Myth affairs, and certainly still put off by what he percieved as strange incongruities between the fantasy decor and the technology of the ships. After all, why would one need massive walled gates and medieval fortresses when you could do with simpler concrete and energy shielding? Ah well. There was something to be said for the classics--besides, he wasn't here to discuss art. Besides, despite being somewhat new at Myth affairs, he had an inkling from what could be gleaned.

When introduced as "Special Envoys Louis Reichert and Karl Rawlings of the United Colonies of Kobol" and then addressed by the council of Elders, Louis then bowed, and gestured for Karl to do likewise, which he did somewhat stiffly, unused to the practice. Thereupon both sat down. Rawlings then began the introductions and replies.

"My colleague and I, on behalf of the United Colonies, are honored to be in the presence of this council. You will find that our representatives on the Rangers are indeed reflective of our people--a bit unusual, but certainly trustworthy, stout, and capable allies."

Reichert nodded at Rawlings, and looked at him as if to say, "You're doing fine, man." Rawlings then, when confronted with the question of how to explain the merger, then turned to the Elders and said, "My colleague here, being from Earth, can explain better than I how this occurred--although I can give truth to his story." Gesturing for him to begin, Reichert folded his hands onto his lap, and spoke.

"Now, to answer the Elders' question. New Dornalia hasn't so much entered into a confederation as a complete merger of which we are still cementing the bonds, thanks to what can be simply declared historical happenstance.

Our Comrade Premier initially decided, for a number of reasons, to assist the Twelve Colonies and come to a rapprochement with them, in what many considered an attempt to stop Imperial influence. So, we elected to ratify the Articles of Colonization, our two sides sharing ties of blood, kinship, and apparently some language and culture. Additionally, the Colonials had storeis of the Thirteenth Colony, and they happened to find us....and let's just say they deemed us the Thirteenth. That expedited procedures quickly, and made it imperative to unify into the United Colonies.

That done, the Dornalians entered into a confederated arrangement with the Twelve. It was unusual--the Workers State did mostly what it wanted, save for the programs between the Twelve and the Workers State to bridge the cultural and military gap. So for a while, nothing really changed. Then, Admiral Cain, the old leader of the UCK died, and chaos threatened to overtake the United Colonies.

That's when, fortunately, Supreme Admiral De Bruyn of Earth, who had been made her second via officer exchange, took command as Admiral of the Fleet. The Admiral then pushed for a new constitution, elections, and also helped to suppress a revolt by Tauronese secessionists along with the Capricans.

And, when the new constitution was promulgated by a meeting of our Quorum in San Diego, the Merger was effectively complete, for the new constiution put the two together as one nation, named the United Colonies of Kobol--for real this time.

Thus, is the story of our merger."

The Elders listened attentively while their expressions betrayed little. Four races sat in unity as functioning body of leadership as they listened to a tale of change and uniting through strife. There was no judgment in their eyes as they could all appreciate the sacrifice and hardships that came when creating something new. With the history of their own civil war, now an age past, each Elder knew from experience that any animosity wrought during the United Colonies time of reforging would not vanish easily. Even on Mythrandir, many feuds still plagued some of the races.

Elder Sebastian nodded solemnly at the ending of the story. "A tale I imagine our scholars would like to record in more detail some day. Then as it is you are now the United Colonies and no longer just one central world with power, Mythrandir shall respect the wishes of all your worlds."

On the far end of the Elder arrangement, the loud shrills of the griffon Elder could be heard but a jewel hanging from his neck by a golden chain soon translated the hawk-like screeches into a language that was understandable. "Often in times of strife, there are those that are forgotten or pushed aside for the expedience of a greater gain. To destroy is a rather simple matter but creating something is an entirely different matter. No life should be sacrificed to create a thing that is there to protect life."

At times, the avian lord seemed cryptic and even the ambassador from Xanthal often had to wade through the high waters of his dialect to understand what Raigar was saying. Regardless of the times that it seemed like the griffon contained a great universal mystery behind his raptor gaze, there was often a great truth in what was being said. Sebastian in a sense was there to translate so as to not bog their guests down with deciphering what the griffon was trying to say in a language foreign to him.

"Elder Raigar makes a good point. We do not know the extent of the grief you suffered that followed during your time of chaos but it seems your government has at least outwardly stabilized. However, I can imagine that there were some people affected by the change or any fighting that occurred at the time. We would like to send whatever aid might be needed to help repair or at the very least send food and water to people that are without."

Elder Alurial managed to suppress a glare as the human offered free resources willingly without thinking of this world first. But it would not be prudent to argue such a matter now in front of others. She would deal with the young human upstart in her own way and time. With Sebastian finished, the elven Elder decided to move matters more towards what had already been discussed prior to the meeting.

"Since the mention of aid has been brought up, I believe now would be a good time to mention what the rest of the Elders discussed before your arrival. We have had dealings with other nations in the past and most have been quite aggressive with their military or their demands. As you do not fit that mold at this time, we would like to formally open trade routes with your nation. Not only would an influx of new items reach your markets but it could also sooth any wounded coffers that might have suffered in the past."

Reichert and Rawlings acknowledged the offer. Foreign aid had come in the past so far to rebuild the United Colonies, especially from the Kythons. However, it seemed De Bruyn was looking to jumpstart the Colonial economy, and like any good "bootstrap-lifting" program, it would require foreign aid and capital. Rawlings and Reichert looked at one another, and nodded. Any aid would do.

Rawlings, speaking for the Twelve Sisters, declared, "The original Twelve Colonies had previously suffered violence at the hands of others before, especially the race known as the Cylons, a loathsome group of homicidal machines bent on destroying human life. We've had help from others, including Mr. Reichert's part of the United Colonies, before. However, any help you can give would be appreciate, for there is obviously still much to be done."

Reichert nodded, and said, "Agreed." He preferred to let his Colonial colleague speak on that matter. After all, he spoke with more authority and completeness just now on the matter than Reichert could. Now, as for the trade part...that was easy enough. Dornalian or Colonial, prosperity was prosperity.

Reichert leaned forward and replied to Alurial's proposal, "Agreed. Trade can only bring benefits to our peoples. As you said, Elder, it would only bring expanded commercial horizons, such as new items, and it would lead to an increase in wealth--which can only help. Additionally, I would imagine merchantmen on both sides, Myth and United Colonial would appreciate the chance to invest in new markets.

Speaking of new horizons, the United Colonies would like to extend the invitation to not only open formal trade ties, but also initiate formal diplomatic ties as well. I would propose an embassy exchange, and maybe a mutual protection pact of some sort."

The Elders sat upon their seats and listened respectfully to the ambassador's offers. It was not an impossible request as the Myths had several foreign emissaries on their world already. Sebastian shared a look with the other Elders then looked at the Colonials. "Whatever aid is required for rebuilding the Colonies that were harmed, shall be granted provided that we are informed of the resources needed and their purpose.

As for establishing an embassy on Mythrandir, that should not be a problem. The Diplomatic Palace was constructed to house foreign dignitaries so that they may have a place to stay on Mythrandir and commune with any of the Elders should the needs of state arise. I assure you that we keep the arrangements peaceful so that no nation that is at war with another, is housed next to one another. Currently we house a woman from Haku, an ambassador from Xanthal, an Abh diplomat, and a diplomat from the Core Worlds. There is still plenty of room in the palace for other nations. The palace is under protection of citadel guards and the laws of no weapons still apply.

If this arrangement meets your satisfaction, then we will have a wing prepared for you. Afterward, I will consult the diplomatic corp for an ambassador to serve on which ever planet you prefer."

Sebastian paused for a moment as it was a more difficult matter when it came to the military. Assuring a place for diplomats was something that benefited both parties and required little forethought. Yet Sebastian was generally never hesitant on matters concerning an allied military effort. It was others that often wore him to the bone with accusations and constant questions.

"Mr. Reichert. Mr. Rawlings. There are very few nations that we have a mutual defense agreement with since we consider the military a very serious matter here. But I believe that this can be settled so long as it agreed that this will only apply to keep our peoples safe from tyrants and anyone that would wish them harm.

However in times of war, it tends to be our policy to finish the war. Hopefully we can count on you to follow through with that if it should ever happen. "

The two nodded, and Rawlings and Reichert seemed pleased with the arrangement. Reichert said with a smile, "That is satisfactory. Our diplomats usually don't come armed anyway and from what we've seen of the Myth, they are trustworthy folk. So the no weapons rule isn't a problem." Turning to Rawlings, he asked, "YOu have anything to add?"

Reichert seemed satisfied with things, and so was Rawlings. However, he looked a bit more skeptical, and his reason became clear once he spoke. "No, but I would ask that the wing you put us in be as far from the...Coredians as much as possible." Rawlings seemed to say the word "Coredians" with a wince and no small unease. He then coughed and explained, "Their nation has recently allowed our mortal enemies, the aforementioned Cylons, to take refuge in their nation en masse; they have even aligned themselves with them after dutifully working with the Dornalians for so long, effectively betraying both Earth and the Twelve Colonies. We're currently not on good terms with them as a result, and we'd rather that something not happen between our diplomats."

Sebastian paused for a moment as it was a more difficult matter when it came to the military. Assuring a place for diplomats was something that benefited both parties and required little forethought. This time, both of the Colonials were united in agreement. After Rawlings asked his question, Reichert replied to the stipulations by Sebastian with a simple, "Agreed. We can keep the pact strictly defensive, and you can rely upon us to honor our committments in the case of invasion." The Colonial, seeing as how his Dornalian counterpart pledged immediately to defend the Myth, immediately concurred, declaring, "Agreed. Such a defensive agreement would be good for the United Colonies as well." If the Quorum asked, he could merely say that it would keep resource use low, as a defensive pact, not offensive.

Sebastian raised an eyebrow ever so slightly as he listened to the Colonials. "Of course, by all means. We will have the southern wing prepared for your diplomatic staff which is located on the opposite end of the palace as Coredian diplomat. There are common areas where diplomats may gather and socialize so if there are any problems, please have your ambassadors seek out a nearby guard and inform them of the problem."

Elder Sebastian rose from his seat and clasped his writs behind his back. The young human walked slowly while staring at the many tapestries lining the great hall. So much history surrounding him, he used its presence for support. "I am afraid, ambassadors, that we do not fully appreciate your situation. The Coredians have been an ally of Mythrandir for some time now and we have not had a complaint for some time. While I admit that their ambassador is not exactly forward with her information, we have never been lead to believe that changes like you say have been occurring.

How did all of this happen? At the outset of our alliance, they were prepared to stop the Cylons from causing further destruction. Had they supported the idea of destroying worlds and enslaving races, we would not have made any treaty with them.

What brought this change on?"

As he did so, his displeasure at Coredia could be made evident, although whenever he paused occasionally to look at Reichert to double check his story, Reichert merely nodded soberly, adding token things such as "I can vouch for that" or "Mhm."

"It seems that Daniel Masaki, the misguided, bumbling leader of the Coredians, felt that the Cylon had the capacity to change. Through a thought process unknown and Byzantine to us, he opted to allow the Cylon to participate in joint operations against Tenetia, in a bid to reunify the shattered lands lost so long ago. And in Coredia it seems, his word was law, they were let in.

Now, their new leader, Danzo, felt it necessary to praise the Cylon over all others, and see them as the only real ally Coredia ever had. This is of course, total nonsense, considering that the Abh once had the stomach to help them--they help them no longer, it seems, out of impaitence--the people of Earth gave good amounts of blood, treasure and devotion to them, and many others had fought alongside them in the past.

LIkely, that declaration was because the Farstars Confederacy has recently taken the step of obliterating the world of Issus for some good reason, and they were once counted as an ally--the shock of losing such a world senselessly must have clouded their judgment. Either way, Coredia was, and has always been, unreliable, and the recent case of immature action illustrates this."

Before Reichert could speak, Rawlings then began recounting a list of other sins committed by Coredia.

"And that wasn't the only set of shenanigans they had with their allies. During the time the Twelve Colonies knew them, before we merged with Earth to become the United Colonies, the Coredians used singularity munitions concealed on Caprica in their embassy to devastate our Capital in order to save their necks.

They betrayed the Ta'Nar and the Godulans, who were also devoted allies once.

They betrayed the Abh, and nearly incited a war that would have destroyed the alliance Earth had forged with both Coredia and the Abh Empire and plunged all into war.

And, as I mentioned before, the people of Earth had given so much to them, only to be betrayed. All that blood, treasure, and military support suddenly made worthless because of a sudden change in power put forth an ungrateful government, who currently only tolerates Earth's Marines at Konoha and Tenetia, because he knows removing them would cause more trouble than it is worth.

Now you see why we would have problems?"

The story was indeed shocking to hear for the gathered Elders as they listened to Rawlings speak. Sebastian knew this change in attitude of the Coredians would come back to haunt him later. For the mean time, he would have to ensure that security was maintained in the Diplomat's Palace.

"This is a bit disturbing to hear as we have also pledged to aid them during their times of crisis. However, we will arrange your quarters so that you will not have to be concerned about any problems. I will also see to it that extra Citadel Guards are stationed in the palace to ensure nothing goes awry."

Sebastian turned to the side and nodded to his wife. Beside her was a silver platter with covering that rested on a small wooden table. Sarah grabbed the platter and walked into the circle of representatives. Sebastian smiled at his wife and took the tray from her.

"We Myths are gift givers to those that are either friends of the Kingdom or have served with distinction. There was a bit of a debate as to what would be an adequate gift. After some searching and from permission from Elder Thrandur, I would like to present two bottles of Dumathone's holy ale. It is the ale that the dwarven priests use during their rituals."

Elder Sebastian removed the domed cover to reveal ornately decorated golden bottles. Dwarven runes covered the outside in blessings of the bottles' contents. Engraved at the center of the gilded casing was a dwarf priest in prayer robes and battle axe at his side. Sebastian presented a bottle to each diplomat in turn.

Reichert, being a Dornalian who appreciated good liquor, nodded and smiled as he took the gift of Dwarven ale. Indeed, the smile was genuine--it was said the Dwarves made strong ale, and Reichert would finally get the chance to prove to many a friend and colleague that the tales from the Rangers were true. Rawlings likewise appreciated the drink, as the Colonials were surprisingly in agreement in terms of liquor appreciation.

Both were also pleased with the present arrangements granted by the Elders, and Rawlings declared, "I thank you for your courtesy, Elder. I can definetly see our trust in you was well founded."

Reichert then bowed his head in appreciation and said, "Our people are incredibly grateful for these gifts. We've heard much about the holy ale of the Dwarves; all of it good. I will have the Master Smiths of the People's Acolytes of Mars prepare something suitable in exchange, as a token of gratitude. I would think of nothing less."

Elder Sebastian bowed and smiled in return of the compliments. He straightened to his full stature and handed the silver tray back to his wife then faced the ambassadors once more. "Any gift you deem appropriate will suffice us and we will see to it that it is properly honored."

Sebastian clasped his hands in front and nodded. "If the ambassadors desire, we can show you to the Diplomatic Palace where your representative will be staying. You may use those for temporary lodgings if you desire and I will see to it that you are provided with a meal and a chance to rest. Afterwards, you may see some of the city if you desire."

OOC: Post written with help from Mythrandir, who supplied a lot of the details below on the Diplomatic Palace. I just fancied it up a bit.

Reichert and Rawlings took the offer, and both nodded and accepted it. Given the present environs they were situated upon, they figured the castle couldn't be any less interesting. In fact, since they were well on their way to making a full alliance and embassy exchange, it was likely that it was going to be rather pleasant. Rawlings told the Elders, "We'd be honored if you would show the way."

Because of this, the two were promptly shown to the Diplomatic Palace, where the two saw their lodgings, they rather enjoyed it. There were stone worked walls, wood banisters for grand staircases, tapestries, a fire place in the central commons, and hard wood furniture all over. Indeed, the interior seemed transplanted directly from the castles of old Europe, and given that Tolkienesque flair for extra character and a little Vauban in terms of the exterior design, as the exterior resembled a multi-pointed star like the old forts the French master built in the Age of Kings. The environment was as exotic to the two as Japan must have been to Commodore Perry--somewhat wondrous, and definetly something new.

Reichert muttered, "I could get used to this." Flopping down into the big imperial-sized and looking bed in his quarters, he said, "I could definetly get used to this!"

Rawlings smirked and said, "And I thought the Capricans were decadent. I'm glad I got something like that in my room." Looking at the desk, he said, "Hey, man look--computer console." And looking to the side, he said, "And there's a HoloNet projector."

"Well, they certainly know how to treat their guests well here, don't they?" Reichert said, as he got back up. "Let's get cleaned up. They offered us dinner, after all."

After cleaning up, the diplomats went to the central hub of the facility. Inside the central hub and dome of the palace was the commissary, where diplomats could eat with others, a small library, and the lounge. They waited to see what would occur when they arrived at the commissary...

A golden chandelier hung from the ceiling where little cups held pools of oil to burn and sending light out into the dinning hall. Light flooded the room from the ceiling as well as the wall keeping the hall well lit and comfortable for the diplomats. Oaken tables were set out for diplomats to congregate while they ate with each high backed chair comfortably cushioned for long conversations into the hours of the night.

For now though, there was only one table that was being prepared. Sebastian was already moving around setting the plates out while Thrandur carried two massive barrels on his shoulders then heaved them onto racks against the wall. The dwarf grabbed two spouts in jammed them in their respective slots. Alurial floated around the table filling vases with some of the exotic flowers from Mythrandir where some simply looked appealing and others gave off a glow of all their own.

Raigar hit the floor with a light thud in front of Reichert and Rawlings after they entered the room. The griffon flicked his talons, extinguishing a long wick after having lit the sconces adorning the chandelier.

The jewel around his neck translated as he spoke. "Please be seated. The meal will be served shortly."

The kitchen in the back was alive with action as culinary music could be heard with the sounds of clanging pots and ingredients being added to morsels. Amidst it all, Sarah's voice could be heard giving instructions on how certain things should be cooked and proper temperatures for the fire.

"Shizra could you come here for a moment? I need your help in cutting something."

War Mistress Shizra had been standing off to the side for a time but pushed her way through the doors when she was called. The dark elf was gone for a time while the table was finalized with glasses of water being poured and finely forged, decorative goblets were set off to the side. Sebastian finished laying out the table with napkins and the silverware just in time it seemed as a procession of platters were brought out from the kitchen.

The aroma of seasoned and smoked meats soon filled the dining hall while stews looked to promise to warm the body and soul. Warm bread was brought out fresh from the ovens and fine silver pots brought forth a variety of steamed vegetables. The last two out of the kitchen were Shizra and Sarah. Sarah wiped her hands off on her apron then tossed it off to the side in the kitchen. Shizra on the other hand was wiping the edge of one of her scimitars off with a cloth then returned it to its sheath.

Sarah smiled as everyone was seated around the table. "Please help yourselves. I hope you enjoy the meal."

The two diplomats sat down as commanded, and were treated to a lively scene. People rushing in and out, dinner being cooked, shouts and commands from a lively kitchen.....even some music. It was something for the eyes, for sure--way different than the usual night at a steakhouse or a fine restaurant on either Earth or Caprica, to be sure. Rawlings leaned over the Reichert and quipped, "Better than Dinner Theater, eh?"

Reichert replied with a raised eyebrow, "Way better. By miles." Something in Reichert's voice betrayed a knowledge of the subject, one which wasn't sitting well with him. Rawlings wisely shrugged and said, "Let's move on" to the tune of a "Yeah' from Reichert. They saw Shizra move in, and Rawlings raised an eyebrow, whispering, "What's with her? Why's she going in there to help, she looks too well up to work there."

Reichert mused, "See that big scabbard she's got? I guess they needed her skills at swordplay to work a tough piece." Rawlings shrugged, and said, "Guess so. I dunno any Fleet officers who'd help out in the mess, is all. You learn something new everyday."

The conversation was cut short as the plates and glasses of water moved in. And then, the food....oh, so much food. Reichert and Rawlings looked astonished at it all, and Reichert wondered, pleasantly surprised, "Now that's a meal. We gonna be able to eat all that?"

Rawlings replied, "Good thing our hosts are joining us. Lookie here." Sure enough, the Elders were taking their seats, and when asked to, Reichert and Rawlings dug in. They tried some of the stew and vegetables, and both of them could only pronounce it, "Delicious," focused on eating their share.

The Elders helped themselves to their plates as well once their guests had finished picking the dishes that looked best to them. Soon the sounds of a dinning hall filled with conversation, laughter, and the sound of silverware clanging against platters. Most of the Elders ate modestly while indulging their guests with conversations or telling stories about their world but Elder Thrandur appeared to have a limitless appetite as the dwarf helped himself to everything he could reach.

Sebastian discreetly cleared his throat to get the dwarf's attention. The dwarven Elder looked at him and shrugged. "Wha? Hey yer wife does some of the best cookin' in Mythrandir and I ain't had a meal in ages. Ye ain't gonna take advantage of it, then ye can go hungry."

Sarah smiled sweetly. "Eat as much as you desire. All of you. I'm glad everyone is enjoying the meal."

Alurial shook her head in disgust then hoisted her crystalline glass in the air. "Let's have a toast if for no other reason than so that Elder Thrandur may come up for air.

To a long lasting friendly relationship between our great nations in hopes that it proves fruitful to all. Breathe the free air."

Sebastian nodded approvingly and tipped his own glass in salute before drinking. The Elder set his glass down before going back to his plate. "Mr. Rawlings and Mr. Reichert, some time during your visit here you may want to visit the Cathedral of Knowledge. It is the sanctuary of all the knowledge of Mythrandir as well any story that has been uttered by the lips of its inhabitants. We have been working to expand its wealth of knowledge to other nations. Perhaps the United Colonies could contribute its own stories and knowledge to the library."

The two Colonials willingly got into the moment. Swapping stories with their hosts, they eagerly returned the tales of Mythrandir with tales of Caprica, Earth, and the city that the culture of Earth SSR, now part of the UCK, seemed to revolve around--Los Angeles. Reichert had time to share a few good eating spots with some others before the toast was called.

The two raised their glasses, and Rawlings stood up, proclaiming in reply to the toast, "Here's to good food...good times...and, in the words of an old Earth movie, 'the beginnings of a beautiful friendship.'"

Reichert chimed in with a shout of "L'chaim! To life!" Drinking down their glasses, they resumed engaging in conversation and such with their hosts. Sebastian's suggestion was greeted with an enthusiastic nod, and Reichert said, "We had a similar, although somewhat more limited archive on Earth SSR, one that is still functioning to this day. The Colonial National Music Library is home to a vast array of musical works, as well as anything related to music, such as instruments, sheet music, lyrics, memorabilia, etc. It used to be just Dornalian, but since Unification the Library's expanded to include musical items from the Twelve Sisters as well. Perhaps the two should talk? After all, there are likely many stories among the songs in the library--and frankly, knowledge is knowledge."

Rawlings nodded, and added, "Heck, the United Colonies may have more to share--we may just pay your Cathedral of Knowledge a visit to see what you may need. I know for a fact that cultural exchanges are definetly possible, and we'd be happy to share, and not just with music--I bet Mr. Reichert's people on Earth have plenty stored away, and I'm sure we could provide something. It wouldn't hurt to tell the stories from the Twelve Sisters and also share a copy of The Three Musketeers, after all."

"I am sure the scholars would enjoy that greatly as would I. Whatever additional knowledge our two worlds can gain by working with one another is something that I can only see as an asset." Sebastian smiled as he took a drink from his glass then went back to his meal.

The rest of the meal passed with a steady flow of conversation with both sides of the delegation sharing stories about their worlds and the oddity of some things being the same regardless of the world or people. As people finished their meal, plates were cleared away and dessert was brought our for the guests to choose from. Every sort of baked goody was available for choosing which most helped themselves to some of the cakes. Only Thrandur, who had gorged himself during the main meal, took a couple of cookies.

Afterwards, the two men were given a tour of the city and glimpsed some of the workings of Mythrandir. The Cathedral of Knowledge was their first destination as it was a topic of discussion at the table. Flitch introduced himself to Reichert and Rawlings as the head scholar that maintained the cataloging of the library along with his assistant Daniel. Together they put the domed Cathedral on display. Light from the sun beamed down through a circular hole in the ceiling and illuminated the grand mosaic on the stone worked ceiling. Rows of scrolls, leafs of parchment, and tomes stretched on for what seemed to be an endless supply wooden shelves. Not only did the library boast a wealth of knowledge, but it was also decorated with numerous artworks from tapestries to monuments of Mythrandir's historical figures.

From there they moved on to the gardens that adorned the base of the White Tower and the feet of the four armored giants that stood like statues around the pinnacle of Mythrandir power. Here, Sarah was especially proud of the sight as she was responsible for some of its upkeep. A number of floral species made up the walls of the garden maze with several colors of roses, a rare breed of flower that illuminated in the evening. Many more were of exotic bell shapes that emitted therapeutic aromas or let pleasant scents drift in the wind that could also be found in most Mythrandir perfumes.

Sebastian then lead the group down the main thoroughfare of smoothly laid cobblestone roads and shops lining the street. It wasn't difficult for the Elder to point out that the shopkeepers tended to carry more of the finer or exotic goods while those that walked the streets hawking their wares were more simpler items. By the time they managed to extract themselves from the crowd and make their way back to the Diplomat Palace, the sun had already begun to fall on the horizon.

The Elders bid goodnight to their guests and promised to see them in the morning.

Two Weeks Later

Their wanderings about the city having been thoroughly pleasant, the Colonial dignitaries settled into the business of negotiating the trade of information and such--before long, Filtch, the man who ran the Cathedral of Knowledge, would be swamped with Colonial classics of all kinds. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Scrolls of Pythia, and other such works were delivered, some of them precious First Editions salvaged from a pre-Apocalypse junkyard and lovingly restored, along with sheet music and such. Likewise, a cultural exchange occurred, with Filtch and the other Myths likely donating what copies they could of their works. (OOC: Took that small liuberty there, to speed things up.)

As promised, the Elders of Mythrandir would recieve their gifts. Reichert and Rawlings in person, along with several of the Master Smiths, would present, at a meeting with the Elders, several mahogany boxes, finely carved and engraved with the seal of the Master Smiths of Mars on them--a winged Colonial Phoenix with a Hammer in the middle of a star in the middle of said Phoenix.

The Smith, dressed in his Leather Apron emblazoned with the same symbol and a People's Acolytes uniform, stood after bowing said, gesturing to each of the mahogany boxes, "These is one of the finest gifts we, the Smiths of Mars, can make for our esteemed allies in Mythrandir. This is a Gladius Hispaniensis, a type of sword found on Earth, finely crafted from the best cortosis weave, finely balanced, and crafted to exacting standards in the Forges. It is a good stout blade, heavy, but not too much--perfect for close combat usage. Several here have been produced, so each Elder may be gifted with one and carry it into combat whenever they must."

On cue, the Smiths each took a box, and presented it, kneeling, to the Elders.

The Elders gathered a couple of weeks later in the great hall of the White Tower along with a few other advisers. Most prominent among them being War Mistress Shizra and Captain Lukien along with his lieutenants. During the lapse of time that the diplomats from the United Colonies of Kobol stayed in the Kingdom of Mythrandir, the Cathedral of Knowledge had grown in stature. A number of new works from Earth and the Colonies were being translated into Mythrandir's runic script while some of the more prominent pieces of Mythrandir lore and its studies.

As the master smiths of Mars bowed before the Elders and presented their pieces of work, the four Elders stepped forward to claim their prize. Each one pulled a finely crafted short blade from the ornate boxes. Pulling the blades free of their sheaths, faint light glinted off the exquisite blades until the light was snuffed out as four blades returned home to their sheaths.

Sebastian smiled as he held his own blade tight by his side. "On behalf of the rest of the Elders, I gladly accept these gifts as tokens of a new found friendship. The blades themselves are magnificent, some of the finest I have seen crafted even among our own smiths. May we wear them forever so long as the bond lasts. And in that time, you and your people are welcomed here on Mythrandir where you may enjoy the comfort and safety of our home."
