120 Miles North East of Vera Cava, Greston

Captain Nigor stood on the command deck of the K.K.S. Nuero, a Malthus Class stealth submarine sitting in the warm waters of the Mednordian Sea. Departing roughly a week ago from port in the Kroandon East Indies, the Nuero was first of six subs to reach the Grestonian shipping lanes targeted. The initial six sent were promptly being reinforced by subs coming from far away Antarctika - more than 6,000 miles was a long trip for a sub - thus it took careful consideration in determining whether or not to send more from the mainland. In the end, it was decided that it would be much more economical to send an additional eighteen submarines than it would be to invade the Grestonian mainland.

Kroandon High Command, comprised of the Joint Chiefs of the Marinok, Korvacht and Aerium had decided that Greston proper would be a difficult place to invade, and offered nothing from occupation. This was not a war of conquest, indeed the Kroandons firmly believed they had not started this new and enlarged conflict and wanted it to end as quickly as possible. There was no reason to set foot in Greston if it could be avoided. Greston was viewed as a weak nation by the Malthus and his inner circle - as all democracies were. They believed that the Grestonian people lacked the will to fight a war they had no vital stakes in. It was clear that the nationalist surge in Greston was sparked by the deaths of several soldiers - history had shown nationalist surges are good at starting wars, but poor in maintaining popular support. Should the people of Greston feel the heat of war, should the civilian population begin to suffer, they would soon forget those men in Tal Masav and sue for terms. This at least was the reasoning of the men in Virticon City. To make the deal even sweeter - Golgoth was invading the entire region of Tyrrenhia - a fact that would cast doubt on the culprit of any submarine strikes.

Captain Nigor did not know about the greater strategy or really care for that matter - all that mattered to him was Vessel 3019 - the Grestonian cargo ship enroute to Vera Cava. Two days prior, when the Nuero had first arrived, it received a highly encrypted transmission from a Kroandon spy satellite that had been taking surveillance of pictures of Grestonian vessels heading home - specifically ships that were riding low, indicating full cargo. One such ship was the ship dubbed Vessel 3019. Positioning itself roughly 25 miles away from the shipping lane. Should the cargo ship alter its route, the Nuero would follow at extremely slow speeds, maintaining its 600 meter depth. A day later a spy satellite indicated the vessel was within twenty miles of the submarines location - it was now time to strike.

The Nuero's towed TACTAS Sonar Array sat ready, and at Nigor's orders, it went active, which would display the position of the towed assembly to any passive sonar systems in the area. It also provided a locked target for two Honvorg Heavy 550mm Torpedoes. "Fire!... Fire!", shouted Nigor, the control operator pressing a few buttons that sent the two long range torpedoes on their collision course with the Grestonian ship. "DIVE!"
