General Adam Tork was standing behind a podium. He was about to make his last speech as acting President of Nachmere.
“My fellow patriots, this is a great day for our nation. The committee entrusted with re-building our government has concluded its hearings. Tomorrow I will hand the presidency to Dr. David Range, who will act as temporary president until Election Day in 60 days. The new government structure, as many of you heard, is a technocratic democracy. Only professionals will be allowed to hold certain positions, although they will of course be elected by the people. I hope every Nachmerian will register to vote and make himself or herself count on Election Day.”
OOC: The new government is based on every minister being academically or officially trained in his office. Example- the Minister of Foreign affairs must have a doctorate in Political Science, the Minister of Defense must be a former Colonel or above in the armed services etc.
This is also the election thread. The elections are for president as well for the Parliament. Here is a short list of candidates and parties:
For Parliament:
Nachmere Libertarian Party – Running on an agenda of lowered taxes, less government intervention in economy and culture, and maximum freedoms to the private citizen. Motto: The freedom to decide.
Nachmere Centrist Socialists- A moderate economical left coupled with personal freedoms. The party wishes to enlarge public spending on welfare and education, while maintaining a liberal approach to subjects like religion, gay rights, etc. The party also wants to cancel mandatory military service in Nachmere. Motto: Equality and Peace.
Nachmere United Nationalists- Standing for traditional family values and national pride this party wishes to enact a free economy while tightening the government control over personal freedoms. Motto: A Stronger Nachmere
Nachmere Green Forever Party- This is a green party devoted mainly to the protection of the environment. The party wishes to maintain the policies of previous administrations to maintain Nachmere superb outdoors. Motto: Saving the environment- For our kids!
For President:
Dr. Terry Schultz- Female, age 48. Running for the Nachmere Libertarian Party. Smart and charismatic, Schultz is an economy expert. She was a civil servant for many years and then went to private business acting as an advisor to some of the largest companies in Nachmere. She says the more rights you give a person the better a person he becomes. She also says the economy should run itself with the minimum intervention by government.
Professor Julius Rand- Male, 57. Running for the Nachmere Centrist Socialists. Compassionate and highly educated, Rand is a professor for social studies in Nachmere City University. He believes a society should give its members protection against the big companies. He also thinks that the time of mandatory military service is over, and that Nachmere should adopt a less military stance. With the money saved by cutting down the military forces, Rand thinks Nachmere can improve its education and welfare.
Colonel(Ret.) James Rolland- Male, 49. Running for the Nachmere United Nationalists. Stern and courageous Rolland is a former commander of the Parliament Guard anti-terror unit. He believes Nachmere should return the emphasis to older values like family, military service, etc. With money saved by cutting down welfare, he wishes to build a stronger education system and military.
