Following One's Fathers (Intro/Diplomacy RP)

Brigitte knew that the night was coming. She could feel it ever since her father had collapsed from his horse by the medium of the heart attack. The knowledge that she was going to become the reigning monarch had taken hold, and she already begun making mental notes as to who she would have as her ministers. When Prince Faldio finally succumbed to the aftermath of his heart attack, and when Brigitte was finally coronated as the Princess of Audemas, she began gathering her ministers and consolidating her power through reforms aimed at increasing the efficiency of the government.

One of the ministers she had chosen was her "uncle," Ver Haarten, an aristocratic diplomat who had served as her father's foreign minister during his reign and she always viewed him as a childhood friend. Sometimes, as a child, she would listen to him tell her stories about the nation's heroes. One day, after her childhood friend Alicia woke her up with the usual morning meal, Brigitte headed down to the Meeting Hall where Ver Haarten was waiting, bowing regally like he always would, making her know that he was firmly loyal.

"Your Majesty," Ver Haarten exclaimed, "It has come to my attention that channels in the Foreign Ministry have sent out the message you requested be sent." Brigitte's face lit up in a smile, her eyes bulging with eagerness. "It is good to know that you've done what I've asked," Brigitte said, her assistant smiling from behind, "and I hope you'll keep me updated on the situation as it develops, hopefully favorably."

Ver Haarten bowed again and smiled. It was then that Brigitte retired from the Meeting Hall to speak with her confidant. "Alicia, I hope that the Minister of Defense recieved my message." Brigitte said calmly while her eyes traced lines upon the portraits on the walls, portraits of long dead heroes and long past events. "I'm sure he had, Brigitte." Alicia replied. She was the only one who could bypass the formalities and call the Princess by her birth name.

"Good, good." Brigitte replied before she came across the Royal Guardsmen who were patrolling the hallways. They were dressed in the dark blue uniforms of their predecessors, adorned with the red stripes and their insignia, they were the toughest men around that the Princess could trust. They saluted and looked so stoic, some of them having been around since the Princess was only a young child.

Excerpt from The Proclamation of the Crown to the Nations of the World by Princess Brigitte, Reigning Monarch of Audemas by the Grace of God, et cetera:

".....Whereas it is the will of Our government that the people of Audemas be able to learn about the human community all across our world, it is befitting of Us that the Crown declares Audemas open to the diplomats of the world, that our nation opens its doors to any nation which seeks to open relations with our nation....."

Under the cover of the misty and pitch black night, Princess Brigitte read one of her favorite books while Alicia was sitting around by the fireplace, zealously trying to finish the day's crossword in the daily bulletin. They both looked so stoic and pleasant. "As the night dawns upon us," Brigitte began to mutter softly, "so I hope the nations of the world will give us a good reception."

She could only hope.

"I see your three and raise it to nine," stated Taishi Ci as he checked his cards.

"Check," muttered Jian.

"I meet your nine," smiled Zhuge as he placed nine Lymaxs onto the table.

It was a quiet day in the Royal Palace and a group of officals, including the two princes, four members from the Vamperial Order and two Imperial Guardians, were playing a game of Five Hand Poker on the verandah out the back of the Palace. The pot had reached a nice forty three dollars when a runner arrived on the verandah.

"I'm raising it to 15 and show," stated Tzu as the other players pitched in their share. It looked promising to Tzu but then Zhuge placed his cards on the table.

"High Straight," Zhuge smiled as everyone passed their cards to next dealer while Zhuge took the Pot.

The cards were passed to Jian as he started to shuffle them. It was their weekly poker card game where a number of officals come and play a friendly game of poker just to loosen up. However, even during poker, the officals had responsibility to uphold and one of them was responding to calls. At the same time, Lancaster Kidd for Economy had arrived and joined in with the card game.

"Carefully, he knows how to handle his money," joked Mavax as the group got a small laugh.

"Sire, a new nation has just surfaced..." started the runner.

"If it's a pyshco nuclear nation then just ignore it," replied Taishi Ci jokingly as the others laughed.

"We believe it's a responsible nation sire," replied the runner as he handed Taishi Ci the report.

They stopped the game for a moment as each member read the report a couple of times. Each one looked about wondering who would ask the stupid question and who would be sent off to do the diplomat.

"Usually Vamp handles this sort of thing," started Kidd as he looked about. "Since he's away, whose going to do it?"

"Sending a military man of any rank will give them a bad impression of us," stated Jian. "So that leaves Kidd, Zhuge and Taishi Ci,"

"I'll do it," volunteer Zhuge.

It was a custom that the brothers would take it in turns in seeing new nations or visiting current nations about diplomacy. It would be a change from the poker matches but Taishi Ci was more than keen to allow his younger brother to do part of his training. It would also give Zhuge a chance to see how the kingdom gain's friends and grow trade agreements with other nations.

We would like to welcome you into the international community. As part of our first telegram, I would like to extend the offer of trade agreements and military agreements. We know what's it like to be a young nation but I should warn you that not all nations...send a positive reply. However, if you wish, we can dispatch someone to discuss diplomacy and anything else that might be on your mind.

Fiandel was one of many villages that dotted the landscape of Audemas and it was like all the others with its village watchmen constantly on patrol, it was a law that every city, town and village contribute citizens to fight in the Militia, a citizens' group which helped the regular soldiers in combat. It was also one of the many places visited by the Princess Brigitte during her publicity tour of the realm. The Mayor of Fiandel had given her quite the tour and she wrote of him in her journal as being a gentle and amiable individual, she didn't consider his extravagant generosity to be mere "sucking up" or anything like that.

It was during the night that Brigitte recieved news about Lynion and the New British Shores' willingness to open relations with Audemas, as well as the Imperial message of goodwill which softened Brigitte's heart. She had been, then, sitting in her chambers - she had been given very modest lodgings - and reading a book while Alicia, her assistant, was doing a crossword in the day's bulletin. Only Alicia had unrestricted access to the Princess' chambers and no one doubted how close they had been since childhood. Brigitte looked over to the emissary and smiled, telling him to report to Ver Haarten that relations with all three must be created. And so he did. Within moments, each nation recieved a letter from Brigitte's government inviting them to send ambassadors and so on.

She then looked over to Alicia and smiled. At the rate that things were going, the Principality of Audemas could reap the benefits of multiple friendships.

If you were one of the many tourists who would visit the city of Vasel which functioned as the capital of Audemas then you would have probably seen the massive Royal Citadel in the part of the city known as the Ancient City - the original part of Audemas' capital when it was first built centuries ago. It still harnessed a rustic medieval charm that enthralled visitors and citizens alike. As the citizens of Vasel began to go about their daily business, Brigitte was looking over reports in her personal study about the state of foreign relations and the efficiency of the economy of the realm. After she finished with that, she walked over to the Royal Stables where she kept her childhood steed, Pero, who had been a purebred horse raised from a legend-has-it sort of breed, they say he hailed from a medieval breed that had been loved by the knights of old.

Brigitte smiled as she fed him a carrot while stroking his head with much affection. Around him she was still the juvenile princess and around him she relished the memories of her childhood. As she mounted him, she calmly kicked him a little to get him going. The sun was shining in the cloudy sky while the wind blew to Brigitte's satisfaction. She adjusted her outfit and smiled, riding around until a messenger brought her word of the Motokatans. "Just tell them we want the same with them," Brigitte said before she continued to ride.

She didn't want to be bothered at the moment.

Taishi Ci took a message in his hand as he walked pass by a number of guards who saluted him and he saluted in reply. Taishi Ci was on Lynscert Island near the Simulation Game. His younger brother Zhuge was conducting a military exercise with the 140th Ranger Battalion and by what Taishi Ci could see, Zhuge was playing his cards right. The game had just finished with only ten KIA's on the Rangers and around 20 wounded.

"We got a reply from Audemas," started Taishi Ci as he handed the telegram to Zhuge who went over with it a few times. "Still wanna do it?" Taishi Ci asked as the pair headed out to the back.

"I'm not sure if I can do this," Zhuge said nervously. "Doing military exercises is one thing but...I'm not sure about diplomate relations,"

"Hey, you were bold enough," replied Taishi Ci as they walked towards the airport. "Maybe next time, maybe granddad can take you on one of his missions that way you can see how's it done," smiled Taishi Ci as Zhuge accepted the fact. "I had to do that and afterwards it was a breeze," he added as they met with Zhou Tai and Rathma at the airport.

Few hours later...

Flying through the sky and in the clouds, a small jet plane with the Vamperial Ensigma on the side was being escorted by two Sonic Dingo Fighter Jets as they headed towards Audema's. Inside the small jet was Taishi Ci, Zhou Tai and Rathma who were two of the few he knew that could be trusted. They were also the one's that saved his life a long time ago. Just thinking about that tortoures week bought a shiver and regularly gave him nightmares. He somehow knew that Zhou and Rathma would always watch over him. But nothing could make him remember the tortoure but the loss of his left eye which was now covered by an eye patch. He could still feel the brutual tortoure he went through.

"Sir..." said a voice as Taishi Ci snapped back in reality. "Everything fine sire?" asked Zhou Tai as waved his hand in front of Taishi Ci's face.

"Yes, I'm ok," Taishi Ci replied as he calmed down. "What's the problem?"

"We're just about to enter Audema's Airspace," replied Zhou Tai.

"This is Vamperial Flight Lynx Calling Audema Control Tower," started the pilots voice over the radio. "We're requesting landing as we have the Lynion Ambassador onboard, over," concluded the pilot as they waited for an answer.

"Copy that Audemas Control Tower," replied the pilot as they altered course as they entered Audemas. "Attention all passengers, we're about to land in Audemas shortly and we thank you for choosing Lynx Airlines as your chosen motive for transportation. So please, buckle up and prepare for landing,"

"Does the pilot always say that?" Zhou Tai asked as he was nervously about landing.

"I think he was trying to crack a joke Tai," replied Rathma as all three buckled up.

The landing was rather smooth as the passengers, especially Tai, were more than happy that they had finally landed. The two Sonic Dingo Fighter Jets landed behind the aircraft as the doors was opened and the passengers walked out after the engines had shut down. It was the usual way they landed and each time, they prayed the media wouldn't hound them. Taishi Ci had always enjoyed visiting other nations and as king, it was one of his favourite jobs.

Vasel International Airport was the foremost airport in the entire Principality with thousands of people using it over the past few decades. As the plane from Lynion landed down across the runway set aside for their visit, there were tens of people who were trying to take a peek at the frivolities going on but none of them could get around the stern security officers sent to block them.

The men of Lynion were given the usual greeting by officials of the Principality who had them get aboard an armored limosuine which drove them through the streets of Vasel, clogged to the brim with citizens who were racing to fashion stores, cafes, the music stores where the latest CDs could be bought and to an old tavern where you could relax and flirt with the buxom waitress who worked there. But for the men of Lynion, their destination was the massive Royal Citadel in the center of Vasel, around the Old City District where the Princess lived. If they looked, they could see some of the citizens staring at them. Others, like fifteen year old Elysse, who were busy headbanging to the music on their MP3 Player while blowing, cracking bubble gum simply smiled and then continued to head over to one of many local malls.

The Royal Citadel was an impressive sight. It had originally been built in the Middle Ages with improvements done to it over the past few centuries and most notably it appeared in the music video for a group of musicians said to be quite the nationalists. As the men of Lynion were escorted into the building, the Royal Guardsmen stiffened. The gardens were blossoming well, one official quipped, and as they entered the rotunda of the citadel, they could see the massive portraits that hung on the walls. One portrait showed a young and handsome man in armor leading his soldiers into battle, obviously this was an ancestor of the Princess as one official quipped, while another portrait was of the various statesmen who created the modern day nation of Audemas.

Eventually they reached the doors to the personal chambers of the Princess of Audemas - she had been reading one of her many books while Alicia was reading the day's latest news on the Writing on the Wall which was a very old newspaper that ran since 1835. Regardless of what either of them were doing, both turned their attentions to the men of Lynion when they entered. Brigitte certainly looked beautiful with her lavish yet simple outfit while Alicia was certainly not to be forgotten in that department. They looked at Rathma and his companions before smiling. "Welcome to Audemas, gentlemen. I am Princess Brigitte of Audemas as you probably already noticed. Please, make yourselves right at home."

Although her words were tender like the mother to its child, Brigitte had no problem being the ruthless politician that would do anything to defend Audemas from foreign invasion. She had plenty of ambition to make sure that Audemas would be great and prosperous. "I trust your flight over here was good but let us get right onto the point of our meeting. I understand Lynion would be interested in diplomatic relations with our humble Audemas."

Brigitte told a maid to get some tea and snacks while she continued talking. "The Principality is always willing to open foreign relations. Nowadays it's a necessity in our world. Our embassy district is open to recieving an ambassador from Lynion while our ports are ready to recieve your goods. I'm sure that we can secure a mutually beneficial agreement between us. My court here at Vasel throws its support behind it, of course, otherwise you wouldn't be sitting in front of me."

The maid arrived and Brigitte took one of the snacks into her hand. "What do you have to offer Audemas? Surely Lynion has something in mind for us."

The Royal Citadal had being impressive to the first timers as King Taishi Ci and his two escorts were rather impressed with the amount of effort put into the paintings. Nevertheless, Taishi Ci was more focused on the job and he kept reminding himself he was married the moment he was introduced to Princess Brigitte. He was rather impressed he wasn't introduced to a spolit prince/princess as they tended to tick him off. The eye patch across Taishi Ci's left eye was noticable but he intended to keep it aside until the mission was over.

Zhou Tai and Rathma on the other hand were watchful over King Taishi Ci as the pair were in fact capable fighters. They were also the most trusted (besides his wife) people Taishi Ci could ever trust with his life. It wasn't because he had trust issues, it was what happened during the early days of the Fungi War. That was put aside for the meeting as Taishi Ci knew his place and spoke when spoken too.

"The Vamperial Kingdom has much to trade," started Taishi Ci as he looked around the room before giving his attention to Brigitte. "Minerals including gold and silver, and oil we have plenty of and are willing to trade. Various ores can be exported to be used as steel and other metals. We have an expanding IT which allows us to advance our communications throughout the kingdom. The Vamperial Kingdom also exports its native fuirts and meat to nations that are interested. We also export uraniam but we limit the export to nations that don't use it for nuclear weapons." he explained as he thought about anything that could've being missed. "We also offer military training for both standard, special operatives and marine training. I'm sure there is something of interest for your nation,"

Brigitte listened attentively to every word that Taishi Ci had said, making mental notes about the specific things that she had wanted to talk about, sipping her tea calmly while Alicia wrote down various things in her notebook, having been appointed the Princess' official secretary sometime before Taishi and his men had arrived. As Alicia finished writing the last words down, Brigitte began to speak to her visitors. "It would be a pleasure to open up trade and diplomacy with Lynion. Feel free to get an ambassador over here whenever you can. As for nuclear weapons, Audemas does have those but we don't go flaunting them around. We keep them for use whenever there's a nuclear war but I hope that doesn't happen, because it'd be the greatest movement of Man's stupidity ever known."

Brigitte nodded with a wide smile. "The Principality of Audemas enjoys keeping out of the world's affairs ever since my father (may he rest in peace) authorized the renewal of our time honored neutrality laws. Our military wouldn't mind being trained by your own but I would consult the Minister of Defence about it. We have plenty of resources including wheat, meat and milk. It wouldn't be a problem to have some of our excess produce sent to you. Perhaps we could also strike up an exchange of cultural knowledge?"

Brigitte sipped from her tea again. "In the end, I think we'll get along just well. Feel free to ask any questions. Perhaps, though, you'd like to see more of Audemas? You surely can't just come here for a meeting and nothing else? That's, well, kind of improper of me, letting you go without a tour!"
Lynion
09-06-2009, 16:12
"That's the issue with the Human Race," replied Taish Ci as he was referring to the first part of her conversation. "They destroy themselves with nuclear weapons when they can't consider the possiblity of expanding in other industrial sectors," he said after Brigitte had stopped talking. "However, I suggest we leave it to the ambassador's to really go into the fine detail of the offer," he offered as he liked the idea of the tour of the nation. "Oh that's the best thing I love about my job," smiled Taishi Ci. "I enjoy touring other nations much as they tour mine. Anyhow, I don't mind a tour and I'll let you take the lead,"

It was a rule he had to allow the host to conduct the tour. Maybe he got it off Vamp but it surly made him well known in other nations. However, he was quite relieved not to have being asked a question about his bodyguard Rathma. Everytime he visited his allies, they often ask him why Rathma never had shoes on and what was with the claws. It would often take too much time but he always allowed Rathma to explain how the accident happened because he never knew how it happened.

OOC: I have a question to ask. This helps with my RPing as it allows me to tell the story better. I allow my citizens to live longer but they stop aging. Is that ok or is that taking it too far? Because it really helps with the culture, wars and conflicts the Vamperial Kingdom has gone through.
