"And as you can see, Your Majesty, this video clearly shows a Fedral warship attacking the ship that we came upon. Upon our arrival, the Fedral warship returned to finish the job. We engaged the Fedral warship and sank her." explained Captain Kundtz.
"I see. And you have proof that this was piracy, Captain?" replied King Valos.
"We do, Your Majesty. We sent a boarding party onto the stricken vessel that the Fedrals attacked to look for survivors. What they found was a ship full of corpses and damaged security robots. Later, after sinking the Fedral warship, another ship belonging to the owners of the destroyed ship arrived on the scene and claimed ownership of the vessel. They then deactivated the malfunctioning security robots. They explained that the ship was attacked by the Fedral warship and were able to extract the video you have just seen from the computers on the damaged ship." stated the Captain.
"This is fairly strong evidence in favor of your theory." replied the Jannarii king. "When combined with the report from Mr. Kessler regarding the antagonism of the Galactic Assembly's groundbreaking banquet by the Fedral delegation as well as a long history of aggressive actions on their part, I cannot help but to see your interpretation of events as a statement of fact. Thank you for your report, Captain Kundtz. You are dismissed."
Keeling in respect for his king, the captain of the Springville turned and walked out of the throne room.
"What do you think we should do about this, Charlie?" King Valos asked the man standing to his right.
"Since they didn't directly attack us, Your Majesty, I feel that direct retaliation would be unwarranted escalation." replied Charles Walters, the Jannarii Minister of War. "It is my opinion that we should begin issuing letters of marque and reprisal to private individuals and companies. Meeting state sponsored piracy with state sponsored privateering, as it were."
"A sound idea, Charlie. You have my permission to begin issuing the letters immediately." said the king.
"It will be done, Your Majesty." said the Minister of War before making his exit from the throne room as well.
"Gerard." began the king, turning towards his Foreign Minister. "I want you to return to the Galactic Assembly and make an address concerning the Fedral piracy. I understand that the first meeting will be taking place soon."
"I understand, Your Majesty. As you wish." replied Mr. Kessler. He too made his exit. Now the king was alone.
