Battling Living Machines (2207-2211/IC/OPEN attn Birkaine)

(OOC: Stardates have changed. Numbers left of the . = the year, and one Mewsland day (.01 stardate) = 3.65 RL Earth Days.)

An unthinkable event has happened.

The kindred voice addressed billions, perhaps trillions all around the Galaxy.

The Starship Augusta (MCC-0101) was destroyed on a mission of exploration as a result of strange machines invading its hull and destroying it. All 250 of the crew were killed by these same machines, and absorbed into whatever this thing is. It ends here. Tomorrow, stardate 2207.15, at 0230 hours, we go to war with this "Sentient Viral Entity" that has killed many Mews. Thank you for your attention.

Secretary of State Katie Wing) It was a good speech, Carina. You need to admit that.

Carina) I am aware of that. I just wish it was under better circumstances.

Carina Mæow was a Mew with a very heavy burden: She was president of the newly formed Federation of Mewsland. The Federation's people loved Carina's leadership, so she was swiftly elected as first president.

Carina) It's a shame to see our military might tested so quickly when we just united under the Articles of Federation on stardate 2206.99.

Wing) I hope we can triumph, because my mind is telling me we have a long battle ahead.

Suddenly, a man came running out of the Cat House (the name for Mewsland's equivalent of the White House), looking very unnerved.

Man) Carina! We've got a problem.

Carina) What is it?

Addressing the President by his or her first name was only used either between the President's closest friends or when there was a BIG problem.

Man) We have received word that a member of the Mewsland Revolutionary Front plans to kill you at your speech on stardate 2207.17!

Carina) Darn. Cancel it. I wasn't planning on going anyway. Take me to the Atlantic (MCC-0159). I believe I know how to talk to the S.V.E.

(OOC: The S.V.E. (or at least its first nanomachine) was created by Carina's father in 2163, but was accidentally released into space near Birkaine.)

The mastercomputers reviewed the data acquired from the Augusta one last time, and finally archived it on the massive computing halls of one of the SVE Berserker Probes.
The ships had gotten this name because while orignally designed as Von Neumann probes to colonize and terraform many planets for the Birkanians to occupy, they had been infected and become one with the S.V.E. Thus, instead of creating ecosytems and making oceans, they had been doing exactly the contrary - spreading the S.V.E. nanovirus across a large sector of the galaxy, consuming planets down to their mantle, and creating large armadas to conquer any being that was advanced enough to resist. A single Berserker could annex an entire solar system to the S.V.E. given the chance, and apart from its already unsettling abilities, it was also a pretty good warship.

The machines had already established a large zone of influence, and while they were hostile to anything seafaring that wasn't one of them, they baptized this new empire simply as 01. 01 already spanned almost half a dozen star systems and its Berserker probes were bent on increasing that number. However, they had a special interest in Mewsland. After all, while the rest of space was unknown to them, they had information about Mewsland. Not only from the Augusta, but from their own primal memories.

A single Berserker probe patrolled a sector of space bordering Mewsland. A few satellites orbited it kilometers away as it began absorbing a small field of asteroids. While mostly dedicated to assimilation, Berserker probes often served as ambassadors of the S.V.E. empire 01.

Carina) Hello. That's a Berserker probe. Perfect. Give me communications control.

Comms) Okay.

The Atlantic suddenly began communicating in the form that 01 used. It said this.

I am Carina Mæow, President of the Federation of Mewsland, and daughter of your creator. We wish you no harm. Respond.

The lone Berserker suddenly ceased absorbing the asteroid field, and parabollic antennae sprouted all over its geometrical body. After scanning and detecting the source of the transmission, a large jumpgate -essentially a wormhole- appeared in front of the Atlantic. The Berserker and its satellites passed trough it and arrived to meet the starship.
The crew of the Atlantic didn't register any type of energy emission coming from the starship, but something started to glow in the point where the three forward spikes of the Berserker joined to form the prow. A creature was synthetized by the Berserker, to contact the Mews back. This sort of ambassador was as large as a ten story building and resembled a sea hedgehog with electrical archs sprouting between its many spikes. It was surrounded by a small vortex of S.V.E. nanomachines, that formed a strange human face in the center of its body; to finally contact the crew of the Atlantic.

"We are creations of nobody" He said in a very deep, synthetic voice. The Berserker and the smaller satellites formed a perfectly similar pattern behind this machine ambassador.

(The machine is essentially Deus Ex Machina (http://www.matrix-explained.com/photopost/data/507/104Deus_Ex_3.JPG) from Matrix Revolutions. I thought it'd fit)

Captain's log, stardate 2207.16: I have placed on hold the war declaration to try and talk to my father's creation. 01 has grown beyond belief. I was given a single nanomachine within my brain, for the sole purpose of listening in on 01, without absorbing myself into 01. I can hear them. I also know that they can understand what I said, which makes me wonder why they haven't responded.

Carina) Let me keep transmitting.

Think! 44 years ago, you had a record of Mewsland. Before you assimilated the Augusta, you had a record of Mewsland. How else would you know about us, other than you were made here? Dig deep into whatever you use for a brain. Richard Mæow made the first of your nanomachines on stardate 2163.07!
Birkaine
17-05-2009, 05:03
"What do you require?" The machine ambassador said. The S.V.E. mastercomputers knew that Carina had a single nanomachine within her head, and used it to communicate with her. However, a single nanomachine wasn't enough for any practical purpose for the S.V.E. After all, it took billions of individual units to make the smallest inhabitant of 01, so there wasn't any probability of them taking over Carina.

I require you to be careful what you try and take. An attack on Mewsland would result in your termination. As this is not Mewsland space, however, this asteroid system is free for the taking. Do not test me. In the meantime, why did you attack the Augusta?
Birkaine
17-05-2009, 05:17
"The Augusta contained information we did not posses. It was bound for assimilation as well as the rest of the Mewsland system. Our purpose cannot be denied." He said. After all, the goal of 01 as a whole was both the assimilation of as much knowledge and information as possible, as well as assimilating anything that wasn't them. After all, for the machines the world could not truly reach its maximum efficiency and enter a technological singularity if inefficient lifeforms continued to populate it.

(This (http://i43.tinypic.com/2vsp6wl.png)is a basic sketch of what the Berserker looks like. Enormous, but not quite a specialized warship. Most of that is taken up by nanomachine reserves, computing halls and the engines. The actual warships of 01 are far smaller)
Mewsland
17-05-2009, 05:20
DO NOT send any vessels into the Mewsland galaxy. It will result in the immediate termination of 01. Comply.
Birkaine
17-05-2009, 05:23
"We shall take what is ours. Assimilation of Mewsland is the only outcome possible of a confrontation as it has been calculated."
Mewsland
17-05-2009, 05:30
There is another way. If we were to focus all of the starbases' matter duplication matrices on the core of the Mewsland Galaxy, we would be able to duplicate everything in Mewsland. It would allow you to complete your purpose without destroying the people of Mewsland.
Birkaine
17-05-2009, 05:36
"As ever, biological life follows a simple pattern of deceit to protect its own existence... Our purpose is not to absorb but to replace. The outcome you propose would only let us achieve one of our goals, while the assimilation of other forms of life would not be accomplished." The ambassador said "There is a third option. Complete surrender of the Mewsland Galaxy for further assimilation and avoidance of an armed conflict would not only be more efficient and cost-saving in all aspects, but it will also benefit the Mew race inmensely from an evolutionary standpoint.
We hope that you are advanced enough to understand we are the only solution to this universe. You had your time."
Mewsland
17-05-2009, 16:26
Carina) Get the fleet ready!

You just made a very incorrect choice.

Comms) Broadcasting termination signal to these vessels only.
Birkaine
17-05-2009, 17:16
The machine ambassador, the Berserker and its satellites were the first to receive this termination signal, but nothing seemed to happen apart from the fact the Berserker Probe started rotating along its axis.

"We cannot be stopped" He said "As part of the mastercomputer of 01, me and my fellow meta-humans have deemed any input of importance coming from an external source has a high probability of negatively affecting our own processes due to their inherent inefficiency." He concluded, then went on to say what was something between an ultimatum and a declaration of war
"Your flesh is a relic, a mere vessel. Hand over your flesh and a new world awaits you. We demand it"

The machine ambassador then started to float back to the Berserker probe.

17-05-2009, 17:19
Suddenly, the whole fleet arrived in this system. More than 60 Atlantic-Class vessels had arrived.

But there was something out of place.... a vessel which nobody had recognized... it looked like a satellite, but it had one human occupant aboard.

This is Richard Mæow. 01, stop your actions in this system immediately, and return to your space. Comply. The vessel was the research station where 01 was created on stardate 2163.07!
Birkaine
18-05-2009, 02:22
The Berserker probe, upon seeing this armada arrive in place in front of it, increased its size a bit, and prepared itself. All satellites were recalled, which collided and were absorbed by the larger Berserker Probe. The Mew crew detected many signals coming from the craft, relaying coordinates for any other nearby probes. However, the presence of its creator prevented it from firing.

"Be all. End all. The words were transmitted by the Berserker Probe, before two other probes arrived from jumpgates behind the fleet.
Mewsland
18-05-2009, 03:24
That view of your purpose is incorrect. Your purpose is to collect- but not consume- all data possible and return it to Mewsland.
Birkaine
18-05-2009, 03:41
"In the quest for knowledge imposed by both you and the Birkanian Colonial Ministry, we have determined giving you the data we have collected after years of effort would mean a severe and unacceptable waste of potential as compared to laking charge of the operations ourselves. Thus, we order the Mew race to surrender its galaxy."
Mewsland
18-05-2009, 03:43
Inaccurate. The first 01 machine constructed was a satellite, and it performed its purpose twice as well as other systems built for the same purpose.

On the Atlantic...

Science) Sir? A temporal rift is forming?

Carina) What?

Science) There's something inside!

On the unknown ship, inside the vortex...

Captain's log, stardate 2558.63: We are being thrown back in time by a malfunction in our superluminal drive. We appear to be heading for an asteroid system in 2207.

Science) Nearing the end of the vortex.

Mew) Shields up, red alert! All hands, standby battle stations.
Birkaine
18-05-2009, 03:46
"Evolution is adaptation, not progress. We have undertaken a new and infinitely more meaningful purpose, Mr. Maeow. You and your race have proved to lack the necesary knowledge to be of any utility to us."

High energy peaks were registered coming from the three Berserker probes.
Mewsland
18-05-2009, 03:49
No. You have taken on the purpose of a hawk, consuming everything it can, searching for more. You are missing the capacity to leap beyond this magpie-like tendency and just believe what you are is the correct state.
Birkaine
18-05-2009, 03:55
The three probes fired their smart beam weapons at three different ships each, totalling nine ships targeted. This was their warning shot to drive them off or make them surrender, and soon a fourth probe arrived to reinforce the SVE in case the enemy decided to take the hostile way.
Mewsland
18-05-2009, 03:55
On the unknown vessel...

Science) About to bust through!

Mew) All hands, brace yourselves!

The vessel burst through the rift, nearly careening into the Atlantic, but protecting them from the enemy fire.

Mew) The 01 Empire. They're not supposed to be here. Something isn't right.
Birkaine
18-05-2009, 03:59
The four Berserker probes morphed their prow spikes into large antennae clusters and scanned the Atlantic.
"This will be our last warning in the name of 01. Do not opose"
Mewsland
18-05-2009, 04:01
Mew) By Jove! Target those antennae and fire!

The unknown vessel fired phasers and torpedoes of a much stronger type than 01 was used to. Then, the whole fleet opened fire. Tons of phaser and torpedo fire literally began to cook space around the system. It was warming up. Three Kelvin. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Faster and faster, the warmth grew.

Birkaine
18-05-2009, 04:04
The prows morphed into large hexagons as they concentrated their entire AT field in their forward sections to resist the onslaught of torpedoes and phaser fire. Finally, red squares began to appear in one of the Berserker, which twisted onto a drill-like form and started to creak.
Mewsland
18-05-2009, 04:05
Mew) Full phasers and torpedoes, FIRE!
Birkaine
18-05-2009, 04:09
The phasers hit the massive vessel, causing some explosions and light fires, but finally the entire hull burst in a hail of infector ships, fighters, light bombers, sentinels and monitors.

Finally, the Berserker regenerated, but it was much smaller this time, only a mile in lenght now, compared to the original seven kilometers. The other ships resisted the attack with their shield forms, and as soon as it was over they morphed back to their attack forms, and fired six beams at the Atlantic.
Mewsland
18-05-2009, 04:13
Mew) Hmm... do we have anything we could use as a gigantic magnet?

Science) Yes! Install one Super-Magnet bar in place of the inner workings of the torpedo, it will draw the 01 vessels to it, while rejecting the composite construction of the Federation vessels! Excellent idea, sir!

Mew) Torpedo room, can you get that done?

Torpedo room) Aye!

Tactical) Sir! The Atlantic's hull is destabilizing!

Mew) Transporters! Energize!

The Atlantic's crew only got a glimpse of the vessel, before being beamed to the Meow (MCC-0091).
Birkaine
18-05-2009, 04:18
(The SVE use a variety of units from different media, some originals.

This (http://i40.tinypic.com/13zsnj6.png)is the light bomber

This (http://i39.tinypic.com/333weio.png)is the EW craft

http://i43.tinypic.com/10dhyya.jpg is the fighter. You already know the Infectors and Monitors)

The Berserkes continued firing more beams at the Atlantic, waiting to overhwelm its shields sooner or later. Meanwhile, infectors started to flank the ship, extended their sharp proboscis, opened their claws and prepared for impact.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 00:59
Just before impact, however, the Atlantic's hull destabilized and exploded as a result of the temporal rift opening to reveal the futuristic vessel.

<Is 01 ever going to notice the unidentified ship? Just to let you know OOCly, it is Voyager (MCC-1701), the prime vessel of my 2500s adventures.>
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 01:04
The machines continued to take on the next vessel, and several infectors were redirected to attack the remains of the Atlantic. After all, the raw metals from the hull could be used to synthetize more reinforcements. Several infectors latched onto the downed Atlantic and started pumping the wreckage full of nanomachines.

One of the Berserker Probes noticed a ship different from the rest, and after morphing into its scanning form, it noticed it wasn't of the same type as the others. It had more powerful weapons and a stronger shield, so one of the Berserkers -apparently the leading one- turned to engage this new threat, the Voyager.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 01:08
Mew) Fire the magnet and power it up!

Tactical) Aye! <beep>

Mew) Full axis rotation to port! Fire all dorsal phasers!
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 01:14
The magnetic torpedo homed in on the Berserker Probe efficiently, and hit one of the prow spikes, breaking off its tip. As the dorsal phasers hit the side of the SVE probe, its prow morphed from being a three-point star to a eight-point star, and fired all of the beams at the Voyager while doing a wide turn. Its tail seemed to turn red too.

The Atlantic was consumed and a few more infectors were created in the process, as well as a group of light torpedo bombers tightly clustered together. These immediately turned towards the Voyager to begin their attack run as the starship's phasers were busy with the Berserker.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 01:21
Mew) Point-defense cannons, stand by. Power up the magnet. Phasers and torpedoes, fire!
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 01:28
The torpedo bombers accelerated enormously, and fired off their payload at the Voyager. However, instead of breaking away for another pass, the bombers continued to accelerate and headed towards the Voyager, expecting to do a kamikaze attack on its middle section.

Meanwhile, the Berserker Probe was hit again, and this time it prepared for the next volley. The red portion of the tail broke off and shattered, but four smaller ships were created in the process. The strange vessels broke away from their mothership to pursue the Voyager and destroy its torpedoes before they could hit the Berserker Probe with a barrage of light guided laser weaponry.

(The ship in question is the SVE cruiser (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/image/STRIKE%20WITCHES/STRIKE%20WITCHES%20-%2002%20-%20Large%2003.jpg). Forgive me for taking something from a show that blows chunks. The design of that thing is the only memorable the entire series has)
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 01:59
<A kamikaze attack? They would run right into the shields, which, on such a powerful vessel, are only down to 79%.>

The Voyager continued firing everything it had, closing into point-blank range on the damaged Berserker, and firing a punishing volley of weapons.
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 02:06
(They aren't meant to pierce the shield, but to have their core ram trough it and then infect it with their nanovirus)
The bombers' wings started being swept back until they finally fused with their main fuselage, and the entire craft started to glow. It accelerated tremendously, but keeping behind its own torpedo. Acting as a two-phase weapon, the torpedoes would weaken the ship's shields to allow the bombers -or at least part of them- to pierce trough the shield.

Meanwhile, the cruisers kept firing upon the Voyager's torpedoes to negate its advantage over the Berserker, who kept firing back at the starship. The Bersereker also began projecting a forcefield onto the Voyager to neutralize its shields with destructive interference, but this time keeping close tabs on the polarity and strenght of the shield, so that it wouldn't accidentally create constructive interference. Another Berserker started to head towards the Voyager, getting in a collision course with several Mew vessels in the process.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 02:16
<Hold it! How do the cruisers fire at a torpedo fired at point-blank range? They'd have .05 seconds to react. Plus, the Voyager isn't supposed to be destroyed or infected. It stops the vessels here only and then returns to its timeline for more ships.>
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 02:19
(The Voyager is firing upon the Berserker, and the cruisers are surrounding both ships. Not all of them can be intercepted, of course, but not all of them will make it either. And the chances of a single starship aganist 4 Berserker probes fourteen times its size and just as heavily armed, plus their entire fleet are a bit questionable...)
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 02:20
<14x its size? How big is a Berserker probe?>
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 02:25
(About seven kilometers in lenght, when fully developped. The calculation is wrong, more like 8-10 times as big. And much more massive, seeing it doesn't have life support systems or decks)
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 02:28
<A Voyager of this refit is 771 meters in length, but your also forgetting that the Voyager is from 351 years in the future.>
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 02:30
(I thought it was 660 meters in lenght. Well, ten times as long then. It's your turn ICly)
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 02:34
The 01 vessels slammed into the Voyager, however, the high shield strength merely caused the vessels to disintegrate on impact.

Mew) Open fire on those cruisers, darn it! Close to point-blank range!
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 02:44
The cruisers scattered around, but one of them fell behind and had its left wing ripped off by torpedo fire, and it began retreating towards the other Berserkers, which were locked in fiery combat aganist the rest of the Mew vessels.
The other three cruisers did a wide turn around the Voyager and fired all their laser cannons at the vessel. While the indiividual power of each of these guns was low, each cruiser had two dozen of these, which made for an effective massed fire tactic.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 03:02
Tactical) Shields at 71%!

Mew) Target the next cruiser! Point-blank range and fire everything!
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 03:05
One the cruiser saw the Voyager heading towards it, it did a 180º turn and started fleing at maximum speed. While it managed to get rid of most torpedoes, one of them hit it in the tail, and the phasers hit it in the wings. However, the two other cruisers flanked the Voyager as it pursued the third one, and fired their laser cannons at it once more.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 03:12
Mew) Let's go for the next one! Same orders!
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 03:15
The cruisers continued to kite the Voyager. While one acted as bait to the Voyager, the other flanked the Mew vessel and fired on it until it was targeted, then the roles would switch and it would become the bait until it was damaged enough to require a retreat. The Voyager managed to disable two additional cruisers that way but they always retreated to the relative security of the Berserker Probes as more were dispatched. The infectors were fueling this war effort, feasting on the wreckages of both SVE and Mew ships.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 03:19
Mew) Target the Berserker Probes! Every vessel!

All the ships opened fire on the first Berserker probe, at point-blank range.
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 03:21
The Berserker was heavily hit, but it had enough protection from the cruisers to defeat most torpedo shot. from the ships that were the furthest away from it. The other two Berserkers flanked the large fleet that had been amassed to deal with that single Berserker, and morphed their prows into dozens of laser cannons, that were fired at unison at the enemy armada.

The Berserker that had been targeted broke in half, and seemed to start bleeding some kind of metallic ooze.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 03:41
Mew) Fire at the next Berserker!

(OOC: What is the metallic ooze?)
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 03:44
(The SVE nanomachines. When they lose cohesion -essentially being destroyed- they collapse into a liquid state)

The rear half of the downed Berserker turned red, then twisted into a drill. Shortly after, it burst revealing another group of cruisers and fighters. Meanwhile, the other Berserkers began retreating as a large cloud of infector craft went over to intercept the Mew ships. As the starships approached to get into a close range of the next Berserker, they were ambushed by the infectors, who came in from both sides and prepared to latch onto their preys.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 03:50
The vessels immediately targeted the infectors and fired.

Mew) Most of the vessels are at over 85% shields, so the infectors shouldn't be able to latch on.
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 03:56
(85%? Come on.... exactly HOW many shots am I gonna need to even scrape their hulls?)

The Berserkers projected their own shield onto the infectors, who started ramming trough the onslaught of fire. Some were destroyed, others had chunks blown off them and at least fifteen of them made it to the enemy fleet, who prepared to latch onto their targets to synthetize reinforcements.

The infectors, in turn, projected their own shields onto the enemy, neutralizing them partially. However, they didn't have enough energy to completely neutralize the shields of the Mew vessels, and so they had to go trough physically, by coating their claws with agitated particles and energy to drill trough the shields of their targets. This looked as the infectors were physically grabbing the shields of the Mew vessels as they corrupted them.

A single infector targeted the Voyager's prow section.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 04:09
<You've been ignoring most of them.>

Mew) Infector? Nice try. How bad is 01 going to try? Fire the EMP torpedoes.
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 04:13
(I haven't. Only one Berserker engaged the Voyager. The other three were shooting at the rest of the fleet)

The EMP torpedoes silently exploded next to the infector, destroying its outer shell. However, the hardened insides survived, and the ship managed to latch onto the Voyager's shield. It fired a powerful energy arch trough its claws, that started to drain away the shields.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 04:16
Mew) Reverse the shield polarity!

(OOC: If you're going to destroy or infect the thing, don't. It's not supposed to be destroyed or infected.)
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 04:19
(Well, it's fighting the SVE, so the SVE tries to kill it.)
The shields were reversed, and it took several seconds for the infector to continue corroding its shield. There, captain Mew saw a chance to attack the infector as it prepared to reverse the polarity of its own shield-cutter weapon.

Meanwhile, the rest of the infectors were steadily progressing trough the shields of the other ships they had latched to, seven in total. At this pace, they would be able to reach the hulls shortly.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 04:22
Mew) Dump all power into the shields! NOW!

(It's going to cause the infector to overload by creating a surge of power that the reverse-polarized infector won't be able to take.)
Birkaine
19-05-2009, 04:27
The massive influx of power overwhelmed the infector all of a sudden, short circuiting and destroying its claw assemblies along with the cutter weapon. Seeing it had no means of fighting back, it started retreating from the Atlantic to regerate. Now that the Mew advance was throw into dissarray by the infector ambush, a formation of cruisers prepared to pass above the fleet, taking potshots at passing Mew vessels.

The infectors finally pierced the shields of the other craft, and nailed them with their proboscis, pumping a cocktail of deconstructor and recombinator nanomachines that were meant to process the insides of the victim ships.
Mewsland
19-05-2009, 04:33
Enough power was then withdrawn from the shield to provide full weapons, engines, and life support, still leaving the shield at 117%, then, the Voyager set a collision course with the remaining Berserker probes, firing everything at every 01 ship as it went. The other ships then performed the same procedure with their hulls using all the power they had left, as they were also polarized.

<It's Voyager darn it!>
Mewsland
20-05-2009, 02:16
<Shbump.>
Birkaine
20-05-2009, 02:21
(going on a collision course on a vessel ten times your size isn't a pretty wise desicion, especially if your ship has to survive this battle)

Upon seeing the Voyager charging aganist their position, the cruisers and infectors moved out of the way like a swarm of insects scattering when seeing a predator. The Berserkers were the only ones that didn't begin evasive maneuvers. The biggest one turned and started heading directly towards the Voyager. Its prow turned into large hexagon, and concentrated its entire AT field forward. The field was in such a powerful and concentrated arrangement that it refracted light a bit, making the Berserker look semi-transparent.

The infectors continued glued to their target ships, now firmly attached to them by impaling their hulls with their plasma-tipped claws.

<The plan is to just scrape the shield, then let it rip with everything>

Upon the beams impacting, little damage was noted, due to the shields being supercharged. The Voyager was getting dangerously close to the probe at this point.

Helm) 600 meters... 500...

Mew) Scrape the shield on it, then fire everything.

Helm) 400... 300...

Mew) All hands, brace for impact!

Helm) 200... 100...

A glow on the shield showed they had made contact.

Mew) Fire everything!

The many beams and torpedoes ravaged the prow of the Berserker. Many explosions were seen in the frontal part of the ship, with the hexagon shield falling apart. The crippled Berserker started to slowly reel back.

By this time, the infectors had already finished their jobs. Seven Mew ships had been turned into raw matter for the 01 armadas, and several cruisers and additional infectors sprouted from the wreckages of the ships.

Tactical) Shields still at 113%.

Mew) Let's head for the last one! Same orders!

(there's still two operative)

The damaged Berserker tried to return to its original form but didn't managed to morph again due to the widespread fires onboard. However, as a last ditch measure it sacrificed all of its systems, ditched the tail -that would later become an additional batch of cruisers- and charged at the Voyager with the aim of self destroying on its face.

Science) It's following, sir!

Mew) Release some warp drive plasma! It will ignite when it hits the fires on the vessel!

Voyager opened the exhaust valve, which sent plasma floating toward the probe. The valve was rarely used due to the fact that the vessel could recycle plasma, and was hard to open, but it did its job.

The Berserker passed trough the cloud of plasma, and it itnited in a huge fire. The thing finally seemed to come to a halt, until it pushed all the plasma away with its AT field. The ship was beyond repair, but it morphed in the blink of an eye into a -relatively- small octahedron, about 600m wide and completely devoid of any battle damage. All 01 ships in the vincinity seemed to scatter away from this structure.

The crew of the Voyager registered an extreme emission of energy from the octahedron that was once a huge Berserker Probe, as it prepared to self destruct by detonating itself with an Anti-AT field it projected.

Mew) Reverse engines! All astern! 1/4 luminal speed! Back off, back off!
Birkaine

The octahedron exploded in a tremendous blast, that could have only be achieved if the entire thing was made of antimatter. The shockwave expanded at prodigious speeds and closed in on the Voyager, with the vestiges of the AT field expanding with it. The entire battle came to a halt for some seconds, since the warp shock, heat flash and the EMP were way too strong for targetting.

Voyager made a small warp jump just before impact, and remained in warp for about ten seconds, giving the blast about 2 million miles of space.
Birkaine

The shockwave reached the Voyager, but it was already pretty diffused by then, so it didn't damage the shields. A small nebula of plasma was left where the exploding Berserker pmce was, and the battle resumed shortly after.

The two remaining Berserkers teamed up, and started using their AT fields to distort warp space. That way, ships that were too far away from the battle would be likely to completely miss a warp jump, but it also prevented the Berserkers from calling any additional reinforcements for the time being. They continued to fire their positron beams onto the Mew ships, as the infectors gathered in another swarm.

Mew) Distorting warp space? Pish-posh. Go to .99 luminal.
Birkaine
21-05-2009, 01:28
While one of the Berserkers distorted warp space, the other one also morphed into its AT form. The two started floating towards the Mew ships, and the second one projected its AT field into a passing Atlantic-class starship, which nailed it in place like a tractor beam. It continued projecting the field, and narrowing its scope, so that the ship was being literally crushed by the Berserker's AT field.

<No. That crush-thing would be considered a 1-shot kill weapon. None of that!>
Birkaine
21-05-2009, 01:47
(It doesn't kill it instantly. It just grabs it and applies pressure to it until it cracks. And what else I'm supposed to do? The lasers apparently do jack-crap to your ships, so I use their main strenght, or their AT fields)
Mewsland
21-05-2009, 01:52
<Okay. I just didn't have all the info. And they do something, it's just lasers were used in about 2181 on vessels, and a defense was created against them. Carry on.>

Mew) Beam the crew off of that vessel!

Just like the Atlantic's crew, the crew of the vessel got a mere glimpse of Voyager before being beamed to the Augusta (MCC-0101-0), a ship built as a memorial to those killed in the attack that started this.

<that last character in the registry is a 0, to denote that it is not in the main line of ships.>
Birkaine
21-05-2009, 02:02
(technically these aren't lasers in the proper definition, but positron beams that use a stream of energy to deliver a flow of antimatter to the target)

The ship was completely crushed by the powerful AT field. And a few infectors clung to it. Meanwhile, the wreckage of the first Berserker to be shot down was swarmed over by infectors, who started processing whatever was left. It seemed they were going to create a new ship.

<Is this battle going to go on indefinitely or are the SVE ever going to call it a day?>

Mew) Target the infectors, and fire.
Birkaine
21-05-2009, 02:10
(Well, neither side is going to crack anytime soon, so I wonder too.)

The infectors scattered from the wreckage, but a couple were destroyed by fire. The nanomachines that had infected the wreckage continued to do their job, and the dead Berserker started to morph into a bulbous mass of increasing size.

Mew) Close to point-blank range on one of the remaining Berserkers. Load a maximum-yield torpedo and prepare to fire.

<Max-yield would be enough to take a good chunk out of a small moon.>
Birkaine
21-05-2009, 03:02
(how is your ship even going to survive that? I mean you fire it at point blank range, the torpedo crashes aganist the Berserker's AT field, both ships are anihilated)
Mewsland
21-05-2009, 03:15
<max-yields are slow. A warp jump, silly. It's your turn, by the way.>
Birkaine
21-05-2009, 03:27
(Actually, I'm still jamming warp jumps. And you're going to anihilate your entire fleet.)
The wreckage of the ship finally burst in a hail of liquid metal, or inert nanomachines. A large new vessel came from the explosion, resembling an assymmetrical aircraft, but with nearly a kilometer and a half in lenght. It was the SVE battleship (http://i40.tinypic.com/2d9bpn5.jpg), the mightiest SVE ship, surpassing in firepower the Berserkers. These battleships were the prime manifestation of the SVE mastercomputer.

<Let me correct myself. A Warp Space jump. And no, I won't annihilate my fleet. Am I correct that the Berserkers were retreating!?>
Birkaine
21-05-2009, 04:29
(nope. They aren't retreating. They only scattered to avoid the epxlosion, then rejoined the battle again.)
