Iloisan Isolationism

Ilois
13-05-2009, 21:18
It had been many months since the corporate conglomeration took control of the tiny island nation, and through the diligent work of engineers, scientific minds, and the business partnerships alike, the nation had began to take shape. Although things had started to prosper for the minuscule nation, being hailed as a capitalist paradise by some, and as a major tourist destination for others, things had changed.

Rumors of secrecy among the bureaucracy fueled conspiracy theories both within and outside of the government of Ilois. Many cabinet posts were suddenly vacated to be filled by individuals deemed less than worthy for the job. Finally, the shifts in government came to a final movement when Jacquelyn Flynn announced she had taken full control of The Assembly.

Long considered to be the head of Iloisan government, Ms. Flynn announced that the group known as The Assembly, had been bought out by herself and she was now the sole executive of Ilois.

Given her new power over the country, she began to alter the Iloisan Constitution to fit the new power structure of the Commonwealth.

Amendment V(2009)
1. Article I and Article II of the Constitution of Ilois shall now be considered null and void.
2. Leadership of the Commonwealth of Ilois will now be carried out through the High Chairman only.
3. The High Chairman shall establish, or dissolve, Department positions as they see fit.

Despite the changes, everything seemed to be continuing as things had prior to the change. That was until there was an announcement that could possibly alter the landscape of business in the Commonwealth.

The official seal of The Commonwealth of Ilois flashed onto the screen across the country as the government preempted all programing for their announcement. The transmission was also broadcast around the globe and the government made sure to inform media outlets around the globe of their upcoming message.

After a few moments of the seal shown on the screen and a version of the national anthem playing softly in the background, the screen faded out. When the picture returned, Ms. Flynn was seated behind a large desk, in front of a picture window showing off the beach scape of the island behind her.

With a soft smile she began to speak, "Hello and good afternoon." She said softly.

"Over the past few months, the tiny island nation I call home has seen many changes. We have gone from a risky business venture, into a respected member of the international community. Much of this work was done through our strong alliances with other helpful nations."

"We have however, not seen the continued support of our so-called 'allies' that we would have liked." Her tone souring somewhat as she continued.

"It is why I have chosen to make this announcement to the people of Ilois and the world. Due to the nature of the world, we have been shown that we cannot continue to leave ourselves open to the risk. We cannot allow ourselves to be lulled into a false sense of security among those that call themselves friends."

"Starting at 0600 tomorrow, the Commonwealth of Ilois will be closing embassy access to all nations and requests that diplomats and foreign service agents return to their home countries by no later than 0800. The diplomatic teams sent out from Ilois are already on their way back to Diego Garcia at this time."

"We will however be making one exception, to the group that has shown us nothing but the utmost respect from the inception. All members of AMNAT will still be considered great friends and allies and welcome to come and go as they please."

"We ask that the nations of the world respect our choice in severing diplomatic ties, and that if they wish to continue doing business with us, we are more than happy to do so. The business climate of Ilois is still welcoming with open arms, do not let our diplomatic stance sway your business."

"On the issue of business we will also be cleaning the slate, and starting blank with all of the world as we feel that our current trade agreements are also detrimental to our cause. We hope that the world will understand that we wish to be treated as equals and must take this course of action to do so. We feel we have been exploited for too long."

Ms. Flynn paused a moment before smiling lightly once more, "We await your reaction. Long live the Commonwealth."

The screen flickered slightly, flashing the seal of Ilois momentarily and then returning to the regularly scheduled programming of the day.
