Background

Ideas for a new pistol as part of Garmidia's PLACPP (Precision Lightweight Assault, Carbine and Pistol Program) Defense Initiative began as early as mid-2006. Although work towards Assault rifles and Carbines was more popular, a team of developers came up with the idea of a powerful, yet lightweight Semi-Automatic Pistol. It is the second released in a family of new Pistols, Carbines and Assault Rifles being produced by arms manufacturing companies all around Garmidia. The developers produced the first prototype of the GS-9 Semi Automatic Pistol in early 2008.

The Garmidian Department of Defense originally was not interested in the GS-9. They felt the current GS-2 Pistol was meeting standards and that work on pistols would not commence until late 2010, when the gradual phase-out period would begin for all Garmidian Armed Forces currently issued with the GS-2. The Developers did not pursue the GS-9 anymore until around July of 2008 when the DoD released a report on all the weapons used by the Garmidian Armed Forces and it explained that the GS-2 had fallen below standards, and so the GS-9 was brought back. The first issuable models were ordered by the Garmidian Army in October of 2008, and the gradual phase-out period of the GS-2 is being implemented. All armed forces branches that currently use the GS-2 are expected to be equipped with the GS-9 by November 2010.

Description

Although looking bulky, the GS-9 is actually lightweight for it's appeared bulkiness. It weighs 961 grams unloaded, and 1,173 grams loaded. it uses a 20 round detachable magazine, and uses the standard 9mm Luger Parabellum cartridge. It's overall length is exactly 221 mm, and the barrel length is just under 125 mm, coming in at 123 mm. The pistol uses the double action/single action trigger technique.

Recoil during the developing stages was a major problem, which is why, when the DoD ordered a comprehensive review of the new pistol, they demanded short-recoil operation. It was tweaked to have this operation on it. Upon firing, the bolt will unlock from the barrel and it will continue to move to the back, ejecting the fired round and will then compress the recoil spring. This gives it shorter recoil distance.

The gun uses the specially made GE (Greater Efficiency) Sight, which are like Iron sights, and have been tested rigorously to ensure their efficiency. The sights have green-reflectors for night-time operation.

The gun can have a laser sight added to the front part just past the trigger although the picture above does not show the attachments required to hold the laser sight. This is included in the base package. The laser sight used will be a BEHGR (Brighter Efficiency High Glow Radar) 10X Laser Sight which has been tested numerous times for the G-S9. This laser sight can be switched to torch function.
