Today, my fellow citizens we mourn.

Yesterday the UFS Defiant a manticore class light frigate and her crew were killed trying to provide humanitarian aid to an obviously crippled vessel. And the perpetrators were not some pirate band, some chaos cultists or slavers. The perpetrators were people who would like to consider themselves apart of the Galactic Community.

The Shanderians.

I do not want a war. But we are prepared to give them one if need be. I do not want any more of our citizens to die in an effort which will only please these sadists. What I want is an answer. I want the Shanderians to tell the friends and families of the fallen why. What did they do that deserved your wrath? How did they threaten or offend you? Why did you take it upon yourselves to kill eighty men and women of the United Terran Federation?

But, at any rate, I cannot wish for conditions in which such a burden should fall upon me in which I should feel clearer than I do today as to where my duty lies.

An answer is all I want. I implore the Galactic Community to help me in this task. Do not let this tragedy just fade into the void between galaxies but hold those responsible to a higher standard. Now that all the relevant documents are being made public we shall stand at the bar of history knowing that the responsibility for this terrible catastrophe lies on the shoulders of one man the shanderian emperor. The Federation shall mobilize forces to protect crucial areas and alert statuses will be heightened, a memorial to the older defiant will be made, and it will be made in the forges of the federation. Any attack from Shanderian ships on federation assets will be considered a collective hostile attack by their nation upon the federation and we shall respond in kind.

And let God watch over the fallen.

It is the position of the Wanderjarian Republic to join with its dear friends in the Federal Union in mourning over the loss of its valiant sailors. We pray for their resting peace, and for the strength of the families of the lost. At the same time, we harshly reprimand the aggressive actions of the Shanderians, and hereby pledge our support to the Federal Government in this time of need, should they desire it. May peace and reason prevail in even the darkest darkness.

While we have not had formal relations with the Fedral Union prior to this point, the Immortal Lands of the Great Lord Tiger can not sit idly by and allow such a travesty to occur or pass by unpunished. At the same time, it is our policy -- as it is in many civilized nations, worlds, and empires -- to prosecute with the all-encompassing mantra, "innocent until proven guilty by a jury of one's peers." Surely, the 'fellow' galactic nations of Shanderia would count as such. In that vein, we press for the aforementioned evidence to be released as promised, and ask -- no, demand -- for the government of Shanderia to say what they will in mitigation.

News of such a grievous and unprovoked attack deeply saddens our Queen, though we must know there would be those who seek to disturb and destroy the honest and the good as they move through the waves, it is always heartbreaking to see their callous and evil desires brought to fruition.

That they should waylay and destroy ships of multiple nations, without cause or reason, without law or conscience leaves space a darker and more dangerous place for us all. Such lawlessness and brutality cannot be accepted by the rational world. It is our duty as those who seek to maintain the embrace of civilization and the security of peace to ensure that such behavior does not go without reproach. No man is free to kill another, to take what cannot be returned. No nation free to beset the traveler, to waylay those on a mission of mercy.

Our Queen will seek passage for the souls of those so senselessly slain, she will direct special attention on this sad day toward their safety in the afterlife. May their loved ones and their progeny be comforted by the knowledge of their assured place in paradise.

Romandeos generally tries to avoid the doings of neighboring powers when they do not affect us, but in this case, a nation which we regard as a close friend and potential ally has been attacked by a state that has evidently no respect for humanitarian missions. In these circumstances what we must do is clear, and we will not hesitate. We will support the Federation. As of now, Empress Sienna has ordered force to mobilize sufficient to bolster trade lane security between the Federation and Romandeos by thirty percent. We also offer protection to any Federation humanitarian efforts close to Imperial space. Her Imperial Majesty offers her condolences to the families of the lost.

In addition, we are putting the offending nation on diplomatic probation. They will be monitored carefully in the coming months.
