What in the God's names....[FT/Open/subnation intro]

In a system not far (relatively) from the Tarnia system....

The Battlestar spun in space, its 6 engines dead. All along its 2 km hull, holes and tears pockmarked its sides, evidence of a battle that it evidently lost. Helpless, it span in space, waiting for someone, anyone, to find it.
To rescue it.

The Jannarii cruiser (http://nightbane.deviantart.com/art/Arcola-class-cruiser-120772878) Springville dropped from hyperspace. The ship had been on a normal patrol of neutral space when the sensors detected what seemed to be the signature of recent combat. Being the meddling type, Captain Kundtz decided to take a look, and so here they were.

"It looks like someone fired a load of double aught buck into a kid's toy." commented the ship's chief security officer, who for some unknown reason was on the bridge.

"What the hell are you doing up here, Lieutenant Jetty? Don't you have a job to do?" questioned the unamused captain.

"...Sorry, Sir. I'll be on my way." replied the lieutenant as he left the bridge.

"Man, look at the size of that thing..." commented Captain Kundtz to nobody in particular. "I bet we could make a killing selling it for scrap." he mused.

After quickly pulling some rough figures out of his ass concerning the market value of a number of common shipbuilding metals, the captain pressed a button on the arm of his chair.

"Lieutenant Jetty, report to the bridge immediately."

A few seconds later, the leutenant was back on the bridge. This time, he was the one who was unamused.

"Lieutenant, I want you to get a boarding party and go see if that piece of shit still works. We're taking it back to Jannath and it would help if the engines are still working. Bring a few of those smug little shits from engineering with you." ordered the captain.

"Aye, sir." was all the lieutenant said before he saluted and went to collect his men.

-A short time later-

The small shuttle was packed with about two dozen men. Each one was wearing an armored space suit and was armed with a pump action shotgun, a revolver, and an axe. They were prepared to deal with any mutants, furries, or zombies that the dead ship may contain, or anything else, hopefuly.

The shuttle carefuly navigated into the rather obvious docking bay on the battlestar and settled down on the deck. With a hiss, the atmosphere in the shuttle was vaccumed away into storage tanks and the large hatch on the back end opened up.

"Alright, men. We're here to scout this piece of shit out and see what works. I want squad B to try to find engineering. Squad A, you're with me. We're going to find the bridge. Lets move out!" said the Lt as the two squads disembarked the shuttle.

"We've got a bogey incoming!" reported the sensors operator as the Fedral ship approached.

"Probably whoever did this to that ship coming to finish the job." theorized the captain. "Sound general quarters and begin broadcasting M-particles. Inform Lieutenant Jetty of the situation before the particle density cuts communications."

Throughout the Springville red lights flashed and klaxons blared, announcing the general quarters. The ship's crew scrambled to get into their environment suits and get to their battle stations as vacuum pumps evacuated the ship's atmosphere into storage tanks in the center of the ship. On the cruiser's hangar decks, the fighters and mobile suits were quickly readied for combat and launched.

When the Fedral ship arrived, the ship was already in full combat mode. Fighters flew in formation around the cruiser, ready to attack as soon as the order was given. The ship's guns quickly rotated into position. The M-particle density was well above 70%, far too high for the Fedral message to make it to the Springville.

"It doesn't look friendly." mused Captain Kundtz. "And much too small to be a proper star-faring warship. No external weapons either. It must be a pirate vessel. Activate the FTLi, open fire, and signal the strike craft to remain on station."

All at once, the cruiser's sixteen guns fired. The golden beams were made up of densely packed mega-particles and streaked through space at almost the speed of light. Being targeted with coincidence rangefinders that operated using only visual light and simple trigonometry, the ship's guns were completely unaffected by the thick soup op M-particles that blocked most forms of electromagnetic radiation and made radar, radio, and microwaves completely worthless. Likewise, the ship's FTLi prevented escape and the use of FTL sensors and communications.

As the main guns fired, the ship's thirty two torpedo tubes opened up and added their own take on things. One by one the large torpedoes, each armed with a two hundred megaton nuclear warhead, shot from the tubes. Gyroscopes mounted within the body of the torpedoes oriented the weapons on the proper heading that would allow the LIDAR-based tracking systems to keep a lock on the target and guide them home.

The small swarm of fighters, however, maintained their orbit around the cruiser and the battlestar.

Unfortunately for the Fedrals, there was no such thing as 'out of range' for the Jannarii weapons. Worse, the FTLi and M-particle concentration ensured that there was no way for the Fedral message to reach anybody, be it via subspace, radio, or any of the other common communications channels. Worse still, the Jannarii gun crews were well seasoned warriors and could and routinely did hit much smaller and faster targets than the Defiant using just visual tracking and intuition.

Springville's mega-particle guns opened fire again and again, tracking the Fedral ship easily. At the same time, the cruiser's battery of thirty two twin 127mm autocannon mounts began spitting out 15KT nuclear shells at the Defiant at a rate of more than ninety shells per minute per gun. With this much ordinance flying, it would be impossible for the Fedral ship to dodge and the shields would be down quickly.

Down in the torpedo rooms, the torpedomen were working quickly to reload the tubes and fire again.
Bryn Shander
08-05-2009, 02:41
The shells, with the exception of the few caught in very close proximity to the blast, were completely unaffected and continued to the Fedral ship. Likewise, the mega-particle beams continued to slam into the Defiant unrelented. The Fedrals may have thought that they were more advanced, but that was simply delusion on their part.

The phase cloak was even less effective, the Springville's FTLi preventing any movement between dimensions, be it into subspace, hyperspace, the warp, the astral plane, or whatever parallel existance they may or may not harness. As with the phase cloak, the quantum entanglement would also be affected by the FTLi and would thus be worthless for superluminal communications.

The cruiser's guns continued to pound the Fedral ship, now aiming for the engines. Defiant would see no escape.
Bryn Shander
08-05-2009, 04:21
The Fedral phasers hit the Springville's shields and were absorbed harmlessly. As the Defiant closed to point blank range, the torpedoes fired and the Fedral ship was once again faced with the full firepower of the Jannarii cruiser. The six forward turrets put beam after beam into the Defiant, and the 127mm guns put so many rounds on target that none of the Fedral ordinance would get past the huge mass of nuclear fireballs that swarmed all over the Defiant's shields. The AM warheads detonated as soon as they passed the protective barrier that the Fedral ship's own shields provided, point blank on Defiant herself.

The Defiant's main gun, apparently only as powerful as a single one of Springville's own guns, hit the cruiser's shields and was also absorbed to little effect. As the Fedral ship charged, the Jannarii cruiser simply changed course slightly, easily avoiding the Defiant.

The interior of the Battlestar....

Inside the dark, unlit corridors of the Battlerstar, the boarders would find several things. One thing would be a series of bullet riddled bodies. another would be that the path to the engine pod was blocked by several vented compartments.
Bryn Shander
08-05-2009, 09:25
The two Jannarii boarding squads made their way through the wreck of the Battlestar, checking each compartment that they came across.

"This is weird." stated one of the Jannarii over his helmet's comms system. "All of these guys were wasted up close and personally, not killed by the damage to the ship."

"Sounds like pirates alright. Apparently they came back to finish the job and were engaged by our ship." commented another.

"Maybe they came to pick up their own boarding party." suggested a third.

"That's plausible. Keep on guard and make sure you have a round in the chamber." came the Lt.'s reply.

Two vessels (http://fc00.deviantart.com/fs26/f/2008/148/6/4/Dynaheir_ST42___Frigate_1_MK2_by_eRe4s3r.jpg), lithe and silent under their Stealth Particle Displacement Fields, crept into the area of interest. The Akroma Class was a interesting thing. It could overshadow their movement and even readings simply by transmitting the local chatter in all directions, confusing equipment into locking on to their previous target. It was so genius, and simple, the only way to see the two vessels was by eye. Which didn't count for much in the vastness of space.

"Captain Weaver, you seeing the same thing I'm seeing?" There was a moment in between the transmissions, as it was risky to do so when running in Overwatch mode.

"I see it, we've BEEN seeing it. The bastards just randomly blasted anything that wasn't already dead. Twitchy little buggers arn't they?"

"Yes, they are. And Twitchy buggers with big guns arn't good for a Stealth Ships health. That's a Federal Union vessel, yes?" The captain replied after a moment.

"Yeah, I don't think we've made contact yet, but they've been poking their noses around the Outter Sector." More Comm silence.

"I'm calling it Weaver. This isn't right. We're pulling out, and sending in the Inbound patrol."

"When are they coming, and how many are there?" More pause.

"Just a small Battlegroup. Twilight Cruiser and three Litanies. Not much, but good enough. They should be close." Weaver managed to dart one in under battle chatter. "Should we make contact before we leave?"

"Yes. Uncloak and prepare to jump."

Attention Federal Union Vessel. This is Captain Xavier of Pact Rhine, under authority of The United Fleets, Pact Rhine has quartered this sector for patrol of Pirate and Alien activity. We have watched what has taken place, and as always, we show disdain to all idiotic primitives blasting people without warning. Therefore, we offer our aide. An inbound patrol of ships will arrive soon. Hang in there.

For Rhine.

The two Frigates activated their Matter Displacement Drives and the data transfer brought them back to the Chrome station, where the Transmuter Core safely nestled them next to their destination. They were gone faster then they had come.

ooc: Speaking of not doing your homework, you forgot to check on "action at a distance" before thumbing through the technology base for quantum entanglement. According to the wikipedia pages on [Action at a Distance (physics)] and on the [EPR Paradox], the exchange of information through quantum entanglement cannot exceed the speed of light as it would violate causality. This completely ignores the fact that the local FTLi field has completely stopped faster-than-light travel and communication in the area in the first place.

In summary: Quantum entanglement does not work the way you think it does.

"They even got the security robots." theorized one of the Jannarii crewmen as he noticed the wasted Cylon.

"Those pirates must have really wanted what was on this ship pretty badly." added another.

"Don't worry. Springville will give them what they have coming." assured a third crewman as he kicked open another door and found more corpses.

Slowly but surely, the two squads continued towards their destinations. Squad A was headed towards the bridge, while squad B was headed towards main engineering.

In the CIC....

Bodies were everywhere. About half of the flickering screens had blood on them, the ther half not working. Signs of a EMP blast were everywhere; blown out lights, fried computers and a general lack of power to any systems.

In the Engine Pod.....

Thyrium gas fulled the air inside the engine pod; the result of several ruptured pipes and a cracked reactor. Anyone who breathed it in would experience dizziness, nausea, temporary blindness, and after a while internal bleeding as the gas stripped away the lining of the throat and lungs.
Bryn Shander
08-05-2009, 22:09
"By Jannath..." was all that one crewman could find the words to say as he set his eyes on the carnage in the CIC.

"This is just like what our schoolbooks described on the ships that were nuked by the Alvinians during the war." deduced another.

"Check around for anything that isn't broken and see if anything can be fixed." ordered the Lieutenant as he surveyed the bodies. As ordered, the crewmen and engineers began toying with all the consoles.

In the engineering section, squad B was perfectly safe. They were all wearing space suits on account of Jannarii standard operating procedure being to evacuate the atmosphere before any combat operations to prevent explosive decompression and inhibit enemy boarding operations.

"Looks like we've got some busted reactors, chief." stated one of the engineers rather obviously.

"That's fairly clear. My scanners are reading high concentrations of a toxic, caustic gas in the room." one of the others added.

"It's not any design I'm familiar with." stated the squad's ranking engineer. "Everyone split up and see if you can figure out how this stuff is supposed to work and if we can fix it."

In the CIC, one of the bodies stirred. Moaning in pain, the man sat up against the wall and looked at the people at the consoles.
"Hey, got a medic?" said the man, grunting in pain as he put a hand over a apparent bullet wound.

In the Engine Pod, it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to work out that the reactor and engines wouldn't start any time soon.

Godmoding is also when you refuse to take losses to a superior class of warship. I.E. If you take a single light frigate against a cruiser and refuse to allow it to die, then that could also be considered godmoding, amirite?

"Holy shit, that dude's not dead yet." said one of the crewmen, obviously quite shocked.

"Our only medic is with squad B. Which of you has medical training?" asked the Lieutenant.

"My grandfather was a rancher and taught me how to treat livestock." said one of the crewmen.

"That'll have to do. Take a look at the guy." sighed the Lieutenant.

The crewman walked over to the wounded man and started to examine the wound.

"This man has been shot with a gun." deduced the would be medic. "Somebody get me a flask, a cigarette, and a lighter. he said as he took a shotgun shell from his ammo pouch.

"Wait! You can't just shoot him. We're not barbarians, bro." said the Lieutenant.

"I'm not, brah. I saw this in a movie once. You can cauterize a wound with gunpowder. Now someone give me a flask and a smoke already." he replied as he opened the shell and dumped the buckshot out, carefully removing the wad.

"A movie. Is that the best you can do?" asked the Lieutenant as he handed over the cigarette and lighter. Another crewman handed over a flask of cheap moonshine.

"Do you have any better ideas?" asked the wannabe medic as he presented the flask to the wounded man and motioned for him to drink. Speaking Shanderan, it was unlikely that the wounded man could understand a word that the Jannarii crewmen were saying.

As the casualty downed the moonshine and started coughing and hacking, the medic removed his helmet and lit up the cigarette before using one of the pliers in his engineering kit to pluck the slug from the wound.

"This is going to hurt. Badly." he said to the man, knowing full well that he didn't understand. As he poured the contents of the shotgun shell into the wound, he hoped that the moonshine had already kicked in. Then he used the cigarette to light the gunpowder. In a flash, the powder burned away and flames shot from the wound. The man screamed out in obvious pain and writhed around. After he calmed down, the engineer turned medic handed him the cigarette.

"Wait, what the fuck did you just say?" asked the would-be medic.

Though the medic's weapon was slung across his back, the rest of squad A had their shotguns at the low ready the whole time. As the cylons reactivated, the eleven other squadmembers leveled their shotguns at the cylons.

"Wanna make a bet?" asked the 'medic' as he hit the man in the gut with the butt of his axe.

As the man doubled over and started coughing, the eleven other men in the squad opened fire with their shotguns, pumping after every shot to quickly fire again. After each man had expended all nine rounds they stopped firing.

While his squadmates fired a grand total of ninety nine rounds of 00 buckshot into the cylons, the medic snatched the cigarette from the man's mouth and took a long drag, dropping his boarding axe on the man's skull.

Basestar, one jump away....

The man shuddered as his mind was thrust into a new body.

"No, brother. Some unknowns found it. I swear that hurts more every time," said man no. 1.

"See, we should have just wasted all the survivors." added another as he inspected one of the trashed cylons.

"What's the status report of squad B?" asked a third.

"Everything in the engineering section is trashed. This ship isn't going anywhere under her own power." came squad B's reply.

Fair enough. It's safe to assume that everyone onboard is dead. Everyone, return to the shuttle. decided the Lieutenant.

Their work finished, the two squads began the journey back to the shuttle. Just in case, Squad A reloaded their weapons.

"Blargh! I'm hit!" cried one of the crewmen as several Cylon projectiles tore through his armored space suit, ravaging the fleshy bits inside.

"Jimmy! No!" yelled another right before he too was gunned down.

"These robots are smarter than I thought... Everyone, take cover!" called out the Lieutenant as he pulled a black, fist sized grenade from one of the many pouches on his belt. "Fire in the hole!" he said as he tossed it towards the cylons, aiming for a spot where it would do the most damage.

Meanwhile, the Springville's shields rippled as the burning chunks of the Defiant hit them and were deflected into empty space. The cruiser's guns returned to their normal positions and the FTLi was disengaged. Unfortunately, the M-particle density would not be lowering any time soon, so contact with the boarding party was not yet regained. In the mean time, the Springville moved into position alongside the damaged battlestar while waiting for the boarding party to return.

"Good. Jump,"said the man.

There was a huge flash, and suddenly, floating about 30km off the Battlestars starboard flight pod, there was a ship. At 3km long, it dwarfed the Battlestar. As it sat in space, it almost seemed to be daring any other ships to attack.

Meanwhile, the grenade took out 4 cylons, and blew the legs off of 3 more.

"Oh my, that's a big one." said the Springville's sensors operator as he watched the basestar's tachyon pulse show up on the screen.

"What was that?" asked Captain Kundtz.

"We have a new guest. This one is much larger and has a completely different tachyon signature than the pirate vessel we just sank." he explained.

"Get me a visual feed on the thing." ordered the Captain.

On a large screen at the end of the CIC the picture changed to that of a video camera facing the basestar.

"Oh, that is big. What other data do we have at the moment?"

"M-particle density is too high for EM readings, but the gravetic sensors are showing a similar signature to the wreck." replied the sensors operator.

"It must belong to the same people. Pull up the galactic standard translator and begin broadcasting a message to them via the signal lamps."

On the Springville's bridge tower, a large signal lamp began flashing a message in morse code.

Yes, the Battlestar belongs to us. We were sent to repair it and return it to our home system.

"Sir, we are detecting Centurions onboard the Battlestar,"said a woman, her hand in the same console.
"Ok, deactivate them. Make those unknown's think that the ship is ours,"said the man.

Onboard the Battlestar, all through the corridors, the Centurions started to shut down...

Several more members of the Jannarii boarding party had fallen to the cylons by the time that they had deactivated. As soon as the centurions powered down, the survivors collected the casualties and quickly but carefully made their way back to the shuttle in the ship's fighter bay. As the shuttle returned to the Springville, the ship sent a reply.

"I understand. You can probably see the burning wreckage of the pirate vessel, but I'm going to need to write up a report about the incident. If you could recover data from the pirate attack on your damaged ship, that would be helpful."

We shall do that, thank you for repelling the pirates

A Heavy Raider flew out of the Basestars hanger bay and headed towards the Battlestar's portside flightpod. Once landed, 3 men flanked by 5 Cylons walked along the corridors of the Battlestar to the CIC, where they quickly located and downloaded logs and video of the battle that left the Battlestar in the shape it was in. They then left the Battlestar, headed back to the Basestar and began editing the logs so that they would show the Fedual Union ship instead of a Basestar attacking.

We have the data, but it will take a while to decompress it and make sure it is uncorrupt.

"No thanks are needed. Defending civilization from the forces of barbarism is our sworn duty as the champions of liberty.

We will stand by as the data is processed."

The Jannarii shuttle returned to the Springville. As soon as the shuttle's hatch opened, the boarding party spilled onto the hangar deck, casualties in their arms.

"You there! Petty officer! Get your ass over here! We have seven casualties!" yelled the Lieutenant.

"Somebody tell the medics to report to the infirmary and prepare the trauma kits!" shouted another of the uninjured men.

As the petty officers scrambled to inform the ship's medical staff and help move the casualties to the infirmary, the extent of the injuries quickly became apparent. The Centurions' fire had passed through the armored space suits cleanly, rending flesh and shattering bone on the way. Several men were already dead, but others were quickly bleeding out. Tourniquets and pressure bandages had been applied to the wounds that could be treated on the shuttle. Stimpacks full of painkillers and adrenaline helped to ward off the onset of shock. Unfortunately, the wounds were grevious and the fate of the wounded crewmembers was in the hands of the gods.

When the video was received, Captain Kundtz immediately reviewed it.

"Looks like our assumption was correct. The Fedrals did attack the ship." he said. "I guess I'll have to issue a report on the incident after all. Signal the fighters to return and have the suits go collect some of the debris from the Fedral ship."

One by one, the Jannarii fighters which had been circling around the Springville and the sunken battlestar began to return to the ship. The mobile suits, on the other hand, moved to the remains of the Defiant and collected some of the pieces of the ship large enough to be identifiable but still small enough to fit in the hangar before returning to the ship.

Thank you for your help. If there is anything else we can do to help out here let us know.

Glad to be of service

"Get some Centurions onbroad the Battlestar, I want the thing to be able to jump in 3 hours!"said the man.
"Lucus, thats insane. But....We'll try,"said a woman, before walking out of the Basestars CIC.
"What about the unknowns. If they run into a Colonial patrol out here, we're frakked,"said a dark skinned man.
"Lets hope nothing like that happens,"said Lucus, before placing his hand in th gel pool again.

Roger that. We'll be on our way now.

The Springville, her strike craft and boarding party recovered and the video received, was now ready to depart. The pirates had been defeated, the battlestar had been handed back to its rightful owners, and the patrol was almost over. Flaring up with a bright blue light, the cruiser's engines began to move the ship once again. Making sure to steer clear of the stricken battlestar, the Jannarii warship started to head home.

With a bright white flash, her FTL drive activated and the ship was gone.
