[ooc: one way you could enter is by being the country that are training the CDF]

It had been a few months since the war for independence had started, then ending with East Chernarus losing portions of land, but being recognized as it's own state. In the east they had begin reconstruction to areas that had been hit pretty hard by fighting, specifically the capital; Ensk. In the Republic, they were undergoing elections, and had since began upgrading their armed forces after massive humiliation at the hands of the partisans.

Major-General Kaymanov was in charge of the 3rd Infantry Division from the Red Star Brigade, which would be the major fighting force in the opening hours of the conflict, assigned to capture several key points, such as bridges, munitions and supply depots, and a suburb.

Overall, the main objectives were as follows: Retake land lost during revolutionary war, secure supply areas, take the northern lands and purge all CDF forces out from the region.

During the ending of the elections in the Chernorussian Republic, the issue of dealing with the separatists was one of the larger issues discussed. The previous administration had utterly failed in it's attempt at ceasing their operations, and had afterwards laid the blame on lack of offensive training and the poor state of equipment. They had procured about 200 refurbished Leopard 1A4's, along with a production line of M113 APC's, using the old BMP's as strictly fighting vehicles. Their older T-55's and T-72M1 tanks were in storage facilities, to be used in the event that they lose most of the new tanks.

Late that night, RSB scouts crossed the border, beginning to set coordinates for the artillery strikes. Using VSS sniper rifles, they had done in a small number of CDF border troops, and has so far not run into many others. When the time came, guided artillery shells were fired at the targets, while a number of tanks and personnel carriers broke through the empty guard post. They soon reached the garrison, and engaged the unsuspecting enemy soldiers. The CDF HQ was completely unaware for the time being, until they were getting radio distress calls from the sites that were now under attack.

As the CDF mobilized in the way it envisioned itself; troops deploying to their home towns, they had been drawn into engagements along the border. Several reserve supply dumps had been captured by the RSB troops, due to the fact that they ran on skeleton crews, most of which were not trained well. Shortly after, an assault on a village was to begin, by a company of troops supported by 6 BTR-80, 2 T-72B and a Shturm-S. The CDF had had a chance to take positions, including troops along the treeline parallel to the road closer to the village, some recoilless rifles in bunkers and some M113's that had transported some of the troops. Because of the low light, and that many of the soldiers on both sides didn't have IR goggles, fighting took place in short, but intense firefights and long range. A RSB BTR that had moved within range of the SPG-9's had open fired on one, killing it's operatives, but had drawn multiple shots at itself, resulting in it's destruction. A T-72B fired a HEAT shell into a control bunker after it had dug itself in with it's entrenching blade, which had killed a handful of CDF troops. Their SPG fire was ineffective at hitting the stationary tank, because of it's range and it's defensive position. A squad of RSB troops moved in close, falling into the ambush set by the CDF in the tree line. As a counter attack, they moved in and pinned down a number of RSB AT specialists, but were routed by another squad that had maneuvered to assist.

Once the T-72's had blown up the SPG sites, it was possible to move in close using the IFV's. They moved in to about 300m from the edge of the village before disembarking and engaging the targets. As green tracers ripped through the air, more often then not hitting targets, the CDF reinforcements were enroute, consisting of 3 M113's, a Leopard 1A4 and 2 T-62 tanks. While the tanks were outclassed by their enemies T-72B's, they did have the edge in training. Unfortunately, they had no knowledge of the Shturm-S, which had launched a missile at the tank it targeted. One of the T-62's exploded , killing the crew instantly and wounding an M113 gunner via shrapnel. Both remaining tanks fired at the Shturm-S, scoring a hit which destroyed the engine and starting a fire. The crew bailed and proceeded to fall back to their main line, as secondary explosions occurred once the fire spread to the fighting compartment. The mechanized infantry disembarked, fearing they may be targeted if there were more missile systems. This made their approach slower, but at least they all wouldn't immediately die if they were hit by an AT weapon. They proceeded to move into the village, which was now contested and several burning buildings illuminated the area. The T-72's had held back, hidden in the dark. By doing this, they destroyed a M113, the other T-62 and mowed down a group of CDF troops with their coaxle guns. The Leopard tank fired an APFDS at one of the T-72's, which due to the angle and the extra armor on the "B" model's turret, merely bounced off after leaving a good sized dent. Of course, the crew would have been hit by spalling had the tank been an older model or an older tank. As the Leopard crew loaded another shell, the RSB tank crew scanned for the target, not quite sure which direction it came from. After the second shot was fired, which had sheared a tread, they located the target and returned fire - a close miss with a HE-Frag round which killed some bystanders and damaged the search light on the top of the turret. The second T-72 fired an APFDS round, which penetrated the side of the tank completely, though the crew did not bail until they fired another round which hit the 1st T-72's engine compartment through the side. As the crew of that tank bailed, the other fired a shot which destroyed the other tank, despite the crew having escaped. The village was eventually captured by the RSB, but they had sustained equipment losses, putting a halt on that units operations until replacements arrived with the reinforcing mechanized forces.

[[ooc: same person as op, btw. One side is a typical post-soviet republic with an over ambitious leader, who in the first little conflict accidentally the whole thing, now with a new president [nationalist, if you want, no set party]. the other is a smaller neosoviet republic trying to take back land that it lost during the war, along with an area taht's sympathetic to their cause]

By dawn, the village had been captured. CDF troops that refused to fall back found themselves waiting in a field tired together, until the rest of the buildings were swept. While it was known that their officers had been executed, they had know idea what was awaiting them. A RSB major approached them and asked who lived in this village; Several raised their hands.

"We will let you live, on the following condition: You will not pick up a firearm and fight here again, or we will kill your families. Should you agree, you will proceed to an internment camp south-east of here, and will join your families. Following that, you may return to the village if you wish. Any form of resistance, and we raze the area. Am I understood?"

Some of the soldiers, most of which were 18, while others were 40-50 year old reservists agreed and proceeded on the march, followed by a handful of ECLA[East-Chernorussian Liberation Army] troops. the others, who either were not from the village or refused to surrender to these conditions were marched into a field and attached to a crude explosive device, which after the captive who was forced to sit on the pressure plate moved, a 152mm shell would go off.

Meanwhile, the rest of the 3rd Infantry Division passed through the area, after securing their objectives. They were now to begin capturing areas in the north, which would likely be easier since they had an ethnic and ideological feud with the Chernorussian Government. Soon they would have artillery support, as a support base was being constructed near by. Inside the captured supply bases they had secured large amounts of ammunition, several old tanks, a reserve weapons cache of AKM's, along with a few artillery pieces.

The Republic of Chernorus' new government had declared a state of war, and reservists were called up to support the small standing army which would soon move into the contested areas, drive the enemy out and crush them. Assuming things went their way, at least.

"Battlefield report?"

"3rd Division is continuing it's advance north. 1st is currently engaging CDF forces with air support."

"Any response with the foreign troops?"

"None yet, they may not be aware quite yet. We plan to take land that will give us a tactical advantage should they begin any operations."

The smaller villages were ill suited for militia defense. Due to their locations, it was possible for an attack to come from all sides and reinforcements could be intercepted. A location that had held out well was the defense of a fuel depot, which due to the commanding officers tactics were able to destroy a number of T-55 and T-62 tanks with well positioned AT teams and antitank guns. That out post held out for 5 attacks before it was out of supplies and was wiped out in the 6th assault.

Outside of a larger city close to the north, a large scale tank battle erupted. Both sides used T-55A tanks extensively here, though noticeable numbers of Leopard 1A4 and T-72B tanks existed, accounting for most of the target kills. Svir missiles were used to hit command vehicles at long range, where as Metis-M's had been used to good effect against the odd T-55 that got too close. There were no major forces between the rear lines of the CDF and the city, save for the police. If the East Chernorussians were to break through that, they could take the city with minimal resistance. The ECLA had deployed a battery of BM-21[Czechoslovak variant] to the area, firing salvos of mixed HE and AT rockets, some of which had disabled personnel carriers and a few tanks. Counter battery fire was usually ineffective against mobile systems, and air support was dificult for both sides, since they employed a variety of AA missiles launchers and SPAAG's.

After the large scale tank battle had ended, two Regiments of ECLA troops advanced onto the city, supported by 5 T-72B, 2 captured Leopard 1A4, 7 T-62B, 3 T-55A and an old IS-10 heavy tank. They quickly captured several areas of the city, since the local police were evacuating the city, instead of fighting as instructed by their government. The ECLA banner was shortly raised over the city's highest building, signifying it's capture. The CDF troops in the area had again pulled back to the base a few miles away, and were to hold it at all costs.

The base, who's original occupancy was about 3,500 troops, currently housed a regiment of foreign troops who were recently training the CDF; thus far the newly trained units had not seen combat, instead being assigned to defend the base. As the evening approached, shells began to fall on the base from ECLA artillery..
