Betrayed and Marooned (FT, OPEN)

“Sir, we’ve dropped out of hyperspace.” “Good. Raise the shields and get the troopers to battle stations. I don’t trust this Rizhak.” Captain Tyber Zann, commanding the Emissary-class frigate Radiant, gazed out over the planet of Corinth. Strategically, the planet had practically no value. It was a relatively barren land, with vast steppes broken up only by rivers and large swaths of tropical forest. According to the Intelligence reports, there were a number of small primitive tribes living on the planet, but they were small, armed with primitive projectile weapons and such.

Basically, a worthless planet.

But today, it was the location a man known only as Rizhak had chosen to defect. Rizhak was a captain in the Koomari Consortium, an organization of raiders and pirates that had been harassing Republic shipping. “Sir, scanners are picking up a frigate near the edge of the gravity well. No other ships are in system.” Zann let himself relax a little. “Very well. Get me comm with the ship.” After a bit of muted typing, a large face appeared on the main comm screen. “Captain Rizhak. This is Captain Zann of Starfleet. I am here to discuss the terms of your defection.” The figure, a large man with a scar running diagonal across his face, chuckled. “I am afraid the situation has changed since my last transmission. I have decided that it is in my best interests to stay with the Consortium.” “What!” Zann almost jumped out of his chair. “Believe it, Captain. The Blood Raven stays with the Consortium. Now I suggest you go before I decide you are trespassing on Consortium space.”

Rizhak barked a command and the screen went dark. “Inform Captain Urai that the ship is here, and he is to proceed. “Yessir.”

“The nerve of that vaccum-sucking little-” Zann’s rant was cut off by the sound of sirens. “Captain, three ships appearing out of hyperspace! They’re launching fighters!” “Shit! Everyone, battle stations!”

The three cruisers poured turbolaser fire onto the Radiant, while droid TIE fighters opened up with laser cannons. “Captain Zann, we’ve taken severe damage! We’re going down!” Surely enough, the Radiant was slipping down towards the planet of Corinth. “Brace for impact!”

The ship slammed into the ground and slid along for a bit before coming to a halt. Zann staggered from his chair. “Casualties?” An officer took a look at a terminal. “We’re down two lifesigns.” “Check in.” Zan barked into his communicator. “This is Engineering. Scorll’s dead, Karm’s hurt bad.” “This is trooper K7D. We’ve got one dead, one badly wounded.” “Shit.” Zann broke the connection. “Troopers, get a perimeter set up around the ship.” As the thuds of the trooper’s boots resounded throughout the vessel, Zann turned to the communications officer. “Did we get a message out to Starfleet? Or to Abregado?” The comm officer frowned. “We got a standard distress signal out, but I bet Rizhak and his friends are waiting for any rescue.” Zann nodded, then turned to Navigation. “Are there any large settlements?” The officer looked up from a holomap. “There’s a large mining settlement here.” He gestured to a dot on the map. “But there are bound to be native camps in between us and them. And the Consortium might have occupied it.” “I wouldn’t put it past them.”

Zann sat back down, deep in thought. “OK,” he announced, “we’re going to rest here for a while, then start trekking to that settlement. If they have a ship, we’ll take it. If it’s occupied, we’ll drive the Consortium out and take their ship. But we will get off this planet.”

OOC-At the minimum, I would like someone to RP the natives (more info later) and possibly someone to RP the mining town inhabitants. Feel free to jump in, but keep it small at first

Imperial scout Hasheket
Off Corinth

Lieutenant Zenobia Hasmonii could hardly believe her scopes. First a Republic destroyer, then at least four Consortium vessels!

Well, that's one fight I don't like the odds of. Even as the Lieutenant's thought wound down to its logical conclusion, the Republic destroyer started going down. "Helm! Get us behind the planet! I don't want those murderers knowing we're here! Nav! Chart a course out of the system - I don't care which way, we can drop out of warp to realign the drive later!" A chorus of acknowledgements heralded the start of the Hasheket's attempt to stay hidden.

((Hey, NC! Nice to see you around as well :) And Telvira... okay, I'll set up a small listening post on the planet))

Mount Korka
northern temperate zone
Corinth

From a distance, Mount Korka might seem like any other hilltop in the northern hemisphere of Corinth. A reminder of the planet's more volatile volcanic history, Mount Korka stood like a beast's canine from the hill country, wind and rain sweeping the pinnacle-like mountain's sides clean.

A more closer look, however, might show signs of intelligent life: at the base of the mountain a large hangar door was hidden underneath the sheer cliff face. And inside, a state-of-the-art listening post. The Principality's Far Fleet had arrived in this sector only a few years earlier, and while Corinth had been of little value to them, the High Command had chosen to set up a listening post here. Mount Korka had been carved out to make room for this post, on which a skeleton crew of twenty had been stationed.

Of those twenty, ensign Karel Matala was the first to pick up signs of activity. Frowning to himself, he leaned over his sensor station, the passive sensors showing signs of battle in the planet's vicinity.

Ensign Matala frowned and clicked open the comm on the table. "Captain, this is Matala, the sensor on-duty. We have multiple contacts. I think you should have a look."

"On my way", came the no-nonsense answer, and within ten seconds the listening post's senior officer, Captain Mari Vaski, was already making her way to the lifts that would take her to the command room.

"It never fails", the thirty-five-year-old captain muttered as she zipped up her uniform. Three months of nothing, and just when she had decided to enjoy a nice real bath instead of those god-awful sonic showers, something came up.

The town of Caloway was not much. Established by the original settlers and expanded by the miners, Caloway was the only human settlement on Corinth. It had stayed sheltered from the war between the Republic and the Consortium, but now the war was coming to stay.

Less than an hour after the inhabitants had watched the Radiant’s fiery plunge, the returning tranquility was shattered once again. Two Gallofree transports, the hallmark of Consortium landing forces, descended to the town. Out from these ships emerged several platoons of Consortium soldiers, as well as several heavy blasters, three light speeders and two skiffs. Their leader, one Colonel Mandros, gathered the town council, the de facto government of Caloway, in the meeting hall. “Caloway is now under the protection of the Koomari Consortium. We will this town as a base in our search for the crew of the crashed Republic ship. Do not resist and we may depart without leaving a garrison. But if you hinder my search or aid the Republic in any way, I will massacre you all and burn this pissant town to the ground.”

A little bit later, Mandros deployed a cluster of J57 recon droids to search the region for the crash. In orbit, Captain Rizhak prepared to ambush any Republic vessels that might try and come to the rescue.

Crash Site of the Radiant
The troopers had established a small perimeter around the wreck, while Captain Zann and his officers discussed their options. “We should strike out for Caloway immediately. There will be transport offworld.” Sigahr, the chief engineer, was a brash and bold man, and not one for strategy. “Starfleet will be sending resuce. Why not wait for them?” Communications Chief Jann Leie was a timid one, not prone to violence and the most cautios of Zann’s crew. Zann shook his head. “Because the Consortium isn’t very likely to just leave the area! They’ll stick around and ambush anyone who comes to rescue us. Same goes for transportation. They’ll blow it out of the sky.” “Then what do you suggest, Captain?” Lt. Dallin was in charge of the clone and human troopers. “I say we head for Caloway, and use it’s comm array to send a message to Starfleet. That way they will be warned of an ambush and can come prepared.” There was a chorus of agreements. “It’s settled then. We head out for Caloway at once!”

OOC-OK WinTrees. Here's the info:

The natives of Corinth (Corinthians) consist of several tribes and villages, no one leader. Constantly at war with each other.

Physically, they are average of four feet tall, brown skin, green eyes, white hair.

Armed with projectile weapons ( http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/6/65/Tusken_raider_rifle.jpg ) [basically crude bolt-action rilfes], bow and arrow, spears, javelins, swords, etc. They live all over the place, concentrated in the forests. They are aware of Caloway and the miners, but they leave them alone, and vise versa.

Onboard the Blood Raven
"Captain, another vessel has dropped out of hyperspace!" Rizhak turned to the sensors. "ID?" "Venator-class, sir." "Damn. OK boys, the Republic's reinforcements are here. Inform Captain Urai of the situation and then tell him we are moving to attack."

The Consortium vessels moved towards the ship. "Attention unknown vessel, you are trespassing in Consortium space." The call was a delaying tactic, to allow the cruisers to launch their fighters. As the message was transmitted, a total of 72 TIE/D robotic fighters launched from the cruisers and headed towards the Venator.

Ryan Demeco took the last cigarette from the packet, gasping it between his lips he lit it and took a long drag. It would be a long time before he’d taste one again; it wasn’t like there was a ready supply of them on this backwards planet.

The light from the lamp resting on a crate of rifles provided the only illumination in the cave. The whole cave was filled to the brim of various types of non-descript rifles, something an average man could pick up anywhere in the galaxy. It seemed like over kill for one man to be sat on so much weaponry, but it was all part of the plan.

It was all very simple, swing the balance of power within the tribal structure of the planet. For what reason he had no idea, but that wasn’t in the contract so he didn’t really care.

He had only been on the planet for a week, but so far he’d muscled into one of the tribes and had enlisted some of the more impressionable younger males to the cause. It’s amazing what a few bars of chocolate and a fireworks display could do. They’d been doing some scouting for him, keeping a eye on the miners primarily but also the other tribes.

He’d been spending a lot of his time recently looking for his ‘Alexander’, as he put it. He needed a local who could act as both a conqueror and a then a leader for the masses. This little project of his had been sidelined momentarily when the ship crashed landed about 10 miles away.

The sound of stones being moved around signalled the arrival of his men. There were 4 of them, all around 4 foot tall, their brown skin blending with the dark hue of the cave and their green cat like eyes shining in the dark. They wore rugged clothes shewn from animal fibres, although there was some evidence for crude production materials.

Ryan flicked a switch on his wrist computer, turning his translation software on. He’d hoped he would pick up the language faster, but the guttural croaks and clicks were nearly impossible for him to replicate with any success, “Kuk’a,” he asked peering into the half-light looking for the larger man, “That you?”

“Yes Carrr’KA’a,” the translation software couldn’t seem to translate that word, he had no idea what it meant, but the natives kept saying it to him... maybe it was his name?

“Take your men and go to the ship, fine out who crashed and come back and tell me.”

“Yes Carrr’KA’a,” nodded the taller of the 4 men, turning around and running out of the cave before Ryan could instruct him further.

“Not to bright,” muttered Ryan, “But keen as hell!”

A ship slamming through the atmosphere was hard to miss for anyone. The Sutfen Aligned Worlds mining outpost saw the battle and soon after the ship slamming into the ground. While they didn't expect anyone to have survived the ship slamming into the planet... Ships were made of some relatively high quality technology, materials, and gear. On top of that they could always use more weapons.

The Sutfen commander decided that it would be a much more fruitful idea to deploy a unit of their combat cars, trucks, and recovery vehicle to move in and see what they could scavange from the wreck. As such a group of Sutfen (http://damalia.deviantart.com/art/Concept-Alien-2-17635589) Technicians, Dastrilian (http://kesame.deviantart.com/art/Kjetterkhan-and-Rekje-73853331) and Nesrandi (http://razor-spine.deviantart.com/art/Scorpanidae-Guard-Concept-30500482) security with a pair of Vorions (http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6240/a1221788078639kittiaraa.jpg) as skywatch and recon from above. They crewed a unit of Seven vehicles, strung out in a line starting with a Combat car, two 'trucks', the recovery vehicle, two more trucks, and then the last combat car.

They sped up to a reasonable 40 miles per hour and started moving through the jungle. Every member of the convoy edgy about either natives or who they would find at the crash site. Above the convoy flew the pair of Vorions who easily kept up with the convoy as they caught the thermals, scanning the ground with special helmets mounting a telescopic monocle and a communications set to communicate with the convoy.

As the Sutfen closed with the ship however, one of the skywatch Vorions spotted the Telviran troops and crew hiking from the ship. Survivors, a big battle above... Usually when there were walkable survivors they decided to blow their ship instead of let the wreck fall into enemy hands right? The Vorions conversed with one another, before they reported it to the Sutfen officer in the Column.

Of course, with next to no pause the Sutfen Tech ordered an immediate halt to the convoy and a grounding of the vehicles. There was a pause as the Vorions began giving instructions and aerial directions to the convoy on how to link up with the Telvirans. They were pretty much like Spotter aircraft, Liasion Aircraft, or UAVs in how they did their jobs. Unarmed unless landed and using their sheathed rifle, the Vorions circled like rather large Birds or Pterodactyl-like beastie. They flew above the range of small arms fire luckily, and mainly 'soared' instead of flapped alot.

In regards to the Convoy, It didn't want to break up. With the many Natives about, such things usually were a bad idea and ended up with you coming back faced with a slaughtered vehicle crew missing their weapons. So, considering a wrecked starship may either blow up or it was going to stay where it was... The Sutfen decided to divert the convoy to cruise towards the Telviran crew and troopers. THe gunners crouched low over their guns, putting their combat armor to good use to keep them safe as he stayed behind their blast/shrapnel shields attached to their guns. (Y'know, metal plate on either side of the weapon?)

The Convoy could be seen from the Telviran Cameras to be bending and turning to move thorugh the forest towards the Telvirans. On top of this the howl of the fans keeping the heavy metal hovercraft in the air would give them away.

"Can we make out their IFF, Scans?"

"Not at this range, Ma'am."

"Very well. Helm, what's the drive status?"

"We're at 90% of warp power, Ma'am. And I have a course ready. But I also have bad news, Ma'am. Due to the gravitic patterns of the planet's moons, our only easy way out brings us near extreme range of the pirates. No doubt the reason they hang around here."

"Not good, Helm." Hasmonii thought a moment. "Still, it's not like we have a choice. Scans, warm up the transmitter - I want us to be able to send a hypercomm message to the Central Command at a moment's notice, got it?"

"Aye, Ma'am."

"Helm, get us a least-time course out of this system."

"Aye aye, Ma'am."

Corinth

"This had better be good, ensign", Captain Vaski muttered as she strode into the control room where Karel Matala had managed to stash away the porn-filled datapad and was watching the sensor screens intensely.

"I would say so, ma'am", the ensign answered. "Take a look yourself: we have a battle going on on orbit."

"Numbers? Origin?" Vaski asked, striding to the sensor screen to take a look herself.

"At least three Koomari vessels... they shot down what I could gather was a Republic warship. I've not done active scanning so as not to give away our location, but... wait a minute, there's at least two other ships in the system."

"What?" Vaski barked and looked at the screen. Sure enough; a new vessel, still unidentified, engaging the Koomari, another apparently trying to make a run from it from the planet's gravitic interference. "Holy shit... that vessel is trying to run past the Koomari. Get me its designation, stat."

"Yes, ma'am. I've also tracked the Republic vessel. It landed quite near the Sutfen colony. It's possible they've already established contact with the survivors... if there are any."

"Hmm, might be trouble, then", Vaski muttered and stood up. "Keep watching the skies, Matala. And issue a yellow alert. It seems we might have to send for reinforcements or evacuate, if this keeps up."

"Yes, ma'am. What about the survivors?"

"Leave that to me. It's time, I believe, for Reismaki to earn his salt."

Two hours later

The silent calm of the plains had endured for millions of years, only ruptured by the constant digging of small plain rodents and the screech of birds. If you blinked, you might think it remained that way still, but for a brief second the silence was broken by the Doppler effect of a hoverbike speeding by.

At over 300kmh, the Ruhmet LeP-500 was among the speediest of Principality vehicles. And this particular bike had been fitted by its pilot, a man wrapped in a long camo cloak, his face covered by the visir of his dirty-green ceramite helmet.

Only a few hours earlier, Sergeant Elias Reismaki had been sitting in Mount Korka's brig, sentenced there for thirty days for brawling at the mess. Reismaki was a troublemaker; an army brat turned into a professional source of disobedience and officer ulcers. Probably the only reason why he hadn't been send home down Washout Lane was because of his knack with technology and skill in mounted combat. He had been assigned to Principality Recon Corps, and stationed at Mount Korka as part of his scout team.

While the Principality wanted to keep the location - and the existence - of the listening post hidden, Reismaki was allowed to make contact and trade with the few settlements in the region, as well as the native population, if they were inclined to do so. He had made himself a second persona as a free-trader, living somewhere in the grasslands and appearing irregularly at Caloway and the Sutfen mining colony, trading food cubes, pelts and salted meat for information, ores, tools - and the occasional "luxury item" in the form of local moonshine and off-world porn.

The captain had offered to waver the rest of his sentence in return for a task: to go the Sutfen and seek survivors of some Republic cruiser that had crashed on the world. He was to see if they would survive on their own, to observe and listen only. If possible, the listening post was to remain secret again.

Recon Fliers

The Vorions flying overhead continued to watch everything. The one named Darhel easily spotted the incoming hover bike, his voice was calm and collected as he considered this with Fennel. The two fliers watch the inbound Bike for a few seconds, before reporting it to the convoy.

Once the convoy considered this, the convoy commander ordered Darhel to move to intercept while Fennel continued to fly over watch.

So, Darhel winged away from Fennel and swooped towards the point where he would intercept the Hover Bike Rider. Flying steadily, Darhel knew he could never outrun the Biker.. He, at his best, during a dive could usually get 130, maybe 140... So, He flew into an intercept course that would be easily noticeable for the rider. This, prompting him to stop... Or slow down...

Sutfen Convoy

Meanwhile, the convoy of hovercraft continued cruising towards the Republic crew... While the sounds of people walking would be hard to hear over the absolute tornado like howl being given off by the fans of the vehicles... While they were comparatively small, the vehicles weighed 35 tons each and the air cushion needed to lift that was tremendous. The Fusion bottle in each vehicle, while volatile, gave all the power the massively powerful fans needed to keep the vehicles airborne. However while extremely mobile, the hovercraft could never be considered stealthy.

The gunners used the holographic sights on their weapons to track the jungles and trail they were following as they watched any and all movement. The Lead vehicle, nicknamed "Bloodcatcher", cruised along. Her 'blower captain' was manning the forward gun, a Dastrilian officer in the ground combat unit, he briefly looked back at the two Nesrandi gunners manning the "wing" guns at either side of the Combat Car's cabin. They were newbies in a sense... The two privates had been flown in on the last cargo transport for a stint at the Mining colony's security detatchment. So the Combat Car's blower captain, named Vincent by the way, looked back to his gun.

He mused quietly as the car smoothly rose and slipped over a fallen tree, never touching the thing once... which was more than could be said for the cargo truck behidn them that ground against the tree before smashing it to a pulp... The only actual Sutfen in his blower's crew was his pilot. Vincent had been working with 'Rock' his pilot for years. Rock was named 'rock' because he was Rock steady at the controls of a Combat Car. Keeping the craft steady and controlled over the roughest terrain for the gun crew to have a stable platform to shoot from.

Anyway, as the Convoy moved down the trail... Vincent could've sworn he saw white, calling out over the comms to the rest of the convoy he singsinged; "Contact, Car One has contact forward! Gun lock, all vehicles I repeat keep guns locked!" In other words, keep your guns safed and don't shoot. The Combat Car screamed through the brush nearby the Stormtroopers and crewmembers of the Republican ship that went down. While the Telvirans could easily have heard the Sutfen convoy approaching, they may not be aware of just how much wind would come pouring out from under the Combat cars. A deep baritone roar underscore the high-pitched howl, dirt and grime... Grit and sand were thrown up as well as twigs as the hovercraft came to a stop nearby the convoy. The amount of wind coming out from underneath the skirt of the hovercrafts was enough to push people from their feet. Thirty Five tons of course from the wind being constantly pushed out from under the skirt... That was a lot of force. However, As the combat car came to a stop...

Rock immediately grounded the thing. A deep and loud "Clang" backed with the sound of dirt and rock and wood being crushed beneath the skirt as the 35 ton hovercraft settled onto the ground with a soft whine of the fans which went from a roar to a soft low pitched whine that didn't impede anyone's voices.

Vincent looked down at the Republic crew and stormtroopers and promptly yelled out (Unneeded, but he was used to yelling over the roar of the fans.) to anyone... "I assume from the massive crash and the fact your all hoofin' it through a horrid fookin' jungle that your in need of assistance?"

Plainlands of Corinth

Reismaki noticed the Vorion scout, and he pulled his hover bike to a stop, the hover field projectors flaring bright electric blue as he powered his vehicle down. He didn't reach for the pulse rifle strapped to his back, knowing this flying sapient from his previous encounters with the Sutfen colony. Instead, he raised his gloved hand in a greeting, and then tapped on the two container crates strapped onto the back of the bike, signaling that he might have goods to trade.

Captain Zann grinned. "You have a very keen eye, my friend. We're headed to Caloway, to try and get a signal to my superiors. An few extra sets of hands and some more firepower would make that easier."

As Zann spoke, a probe droid eased back from its cover in the brush and headed towards Caloway.

Over Corinth
As the Hasheket rounded the planet, it was detected by Consortium sensors. "Sir, we have another ship, headed for the edge of the gravity well." "Let it go," ordered the captain. "It can't do us any harm."

Imperial scout Hasheket
Off Corinth.

Hasmonii closed her eyes, wishing the brand-new headache would go away. But it didn't. She had just gotten her ship, her beautiful pride and joy, past the fight and far enoguh from the planet and moons to actually jump, and now this had to happen.

"What do you mean, 'the hyperdrive isn't functioning', John?" The Chief Engineer's voice was....nervous, as he replied to his Captain's mild query.

"Well, Ma'am, it....isn't working. We can't get out of here."

"I see. And just why can't we get out of here, John?"

"Well, Ma'am. The, the Drive, well, wasn't....maintainedproperlypleasedon'tkillme!"

I hate the Academy. Why do they send these fresh-off-the-shoots engineers to scouts? Fools. Zenobia Hasmonii tried, however, unsuccessfully, to find some sympathy for her beleagured engineer.

"Very well, engines. We'll talk about it later. Sparks, has anyone spotted us?"

"Apparently not, Ma'am." "Good. Helm?"

"Aye, Ma'am?"

"Take us to the crash site. Perhaps we can salvage some components to repair our hyperdrive there."

"Aye, Ma'am."

The scoute vessel reoriented itself toward the planet and began to slow relative to the planet. Obviously, the ship had intention of landing below as soon as it could.

"Fire Four Proton torpedo's at the lead ship, followed by a full broadside!" THe Captain ordered. Seconds later Four Proton Torpedo's sped towards the lead ship, a full Turbolaster blast was fired

Over Corinth
"Shields up!" The four proton torpedoes impacted on the lead Nebulon-class cruiser. After two hits, the shields buckled and the last torpedo slammed into the bridge. The ship began drifting, dead in space as damage-control teams stuggled to take control from the rear bridge.

Caloway
"Sir, there is a ship incoming." Col. Mantross grinned wolfishly. "Fire at will."

Around the town, a battery of proton cannons ( http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Proton_cannon ) opened up on the incoming Hasheket. The cannons were designed to destroy much larger vessels. Mantross was sure they could take out this interloper.

Imperial Scout Hasheket
Skies of Corinth

The scout vessel was rocked by the near-misses of the blasts raining in upon her from the ground. Evidently, whoever planned these defences had anticipated a visit from capital warships, not fast, agile scouts.

Which was fortunate for the Hasheket, as one direct hit would turn the little scout into a smear across the sky.

Eventually, not all the luck in the galaxy could save the scout - whilst a direct hit still had not happened, one glancing impact damaged the main starboard engine, and the scout started to trail flames as it streaked across the atmosphere, looking for a place to land.

(OOC: Telvira, where will it land? You say.)

The Hasheket slammed into the ground just 30 miles from Caloway. Immediately, two skiffs full of Consortium troops and a Flash speeder headed out to check for survivors.
