OOC:
Alright, this is now officially the OOC and sign-up thread for "International Hockey Federation." (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=591549)

So far, those signed up to have teams (one team per, unless you specifically say otherwise) are:

Takaram
Sorsk
Fatatatutti
Selassie del Ethiopia
The Fanboyists - 2 (Zagreb (National Team); Copenhagen)
Takaram

I might get involved
Sorsk
26-04-2009, 16:59
I'd get involved if it becomes an ice hockey league, but if it becomes American football, no.

For anyone else posting here, it would be helpful to include a preference for sport.

Noted, Takaram.

I was leaning towards Hockey anyways; I was only gonna do another sport if thats what someone else wanted, so that wouldn't be much of a problem, Sorsk. (American Football because half the people here don't necessarily like it, Soccer/Football because I don't understand it.)

Either one works for me, but I would prefer American football

It's probably best that you use one that you have made up a national league for your country for, if possible; I happen to have both (in the factbook, which is out-of-date in multiple other respects.)
Takaram

But one thing. If it is hockey, my team gets to be called the Pit Bulls.
Sorsk

Sorsk's two national sports are ice hockey and football. The country's currently in a civil war, but ice hockey/football can still be played, and hopefully whenever the last phases are being drawn out, the hockey team can play in a foreign country for a bit...

Well now...I was planning on an international league anyways...I already had my National league championships (which also determines the National team for the ensuing year.). So, for instance, mine will be the Zagreb Wolves, who won this year (its the first post in my news thread).

But that could work, Sorsk. Absolutely.

And Takaram, you are free to name them whatever you want. No-one will stop you. Though out of idle curiosity, why "the Pit Bulls?" You just like it, or is there a different reason?

*Snort* That's pretty good.
Takaram

Which is why I'm reserving it now
Sorsk

Hmm? If the national teams have to have one of those slogans after them, I'll call them the Sorskian Bears. The only hockey game I've been to was a Belfast Giants home match, which was just a bunch of Canadians attacking each other. :p

I believe that hockey goes on that you have to score to get a point and whoever has the highest total wins?

Fair enough. Like I said, its your national team, it can be whatever you want. So Sorsk, its name doesn't need to be something like the City-Nicknames, or whatever. It can just be "Sorsk" or the name of a city, or whatever. The nickname is purely optional. If you don't want it, you don't need one.

Do I hear anymore interest from anyone? We can't do this with only three people.

And, indeed, that is how ice hockey works. Works like that in most games. The main issue is in how many players there are (6: 3 fowards, 2 defense, 1 goalie, I don't know how it is in soccer/football) and penalties and the like.

You can also RP your fans. That could make things really interesting. *grins nastily*

You can probably find the rules on wikipedia, or at least a crash course on it. I'm not overly familiar with it myself, I just know most of the basics.

So far, the vote is overwhelmingly for ice hockey, so even though thats only three people, here's our current interested parties;

International Ice Hockey Tournament

Takaram
Sorsk
Fatatatutti
Selassie del Ethiopia
The Fanboyists

will be updated as needed.

I'd prefer American Football, since I play it and it's my fav sport.

What is the focus of the thread supposed to be - the RP or the game? Is there going to be elaborate scoring to figure out who wins? Or is the description of the players and their adventures more important?

Fatatatutti has an all-girls hockey team that has never actually played (but they have skated on ice in a recent expedition to Falkasia). I couldn't care less who wins (because we won't). You can godmod the scoring for all I care. I'd be interested if it's more about colour commentary than play-by-play.

Selassie: I understand the desire (I play it too (noseguard and right tackle), what position are you?), but the problem is there's a lot of people on the forum that either don't like American football, or don't understand it for lack of familiarity, much the same reason I can't do a soccer RP.

As for Fatatatutti, the more important thing is the RP here; but I would need someway of determining winners just so we don't have people trying to godmode, simply for the sake of keeping it fun and un-whiney. If you know a system we could use to that end, would be much appreciated if you could direct me to it. A relatively fair system, that is.

(I play a lil QB, Specialty BacK on 3rd and short, WR pretty much.) Yeah I understand, I'll join in doing Ice HocKey, I'm not really expirienced at it but I'll try to do it.

There's a whole raft of sports threads over in the Nation States forum that use a variety of scoring methods. I haven't read them because I get the impression that they take the scoring waaaaay too seriously.

Fata: Then I'd just say for scoring that as we RP, we fit in scoring here and there, and we just keep things reasonable. No blowouts unless previously agreed-on, for instance. Goalies shouldn't be able to magically block every shot, and not every shot taken should be immaculate, etc.

Selassie: (So you're a target, then? haha jk.) that's perfectly fine; I'm not overly familliar with ice hockey either; I didn't know anything outside of "score good, scored-on bad." But between my school's rather awesome hockey team and our area pro's (Go Caps!), I've familiarized myself recently. The wikipedia article (the part on the rules) actually is quite thorough, as far as I can tell, and fairly clearly-written, if you need a crash-course.

So you two are in then?

BTW, I'll be out for a little-bit; I'll be back later. I'm not just ignoring you.
Selassie del Ethiopia

Yeah I'm in. And I'll be out for awhile too.

We'll show up. If we don't like it (or you don't like us), we can contrive to be eliminated early, due to our inexperience.

Don't worry about it; I'll try not to get irritated with people for lack of expertise; after all, I've never done this before either.

Bumpage. Keep the spirit (or the thread) alive!
