Enkair

The Tau Sept of Enkaire is the ultimate result of the tau rebellions lead by Commander Farsight and Shas’O Vera. Although the Sept of Enkaire holds no outward malice for the greater Tau Empire, they still retain a grudging hatred for the Ethereal Caste for their manipulation and control of the other Tau castes. Interestingly enough, the Sept of Enkaire does contain a few ‘enlightened’ members of the Ethereal caste, however in this case they assume the role of advisers and councilors rather than their previous role of rulers.
History:
The history of the Sept of Enkaire is a short one, picking up with Shas’O Vera’s rebellion against the Tau Empire after finding out that the Ethereal caste were monitoring Tau minds as well as limiting their life spans to make them easier to control. O’vera took any forces that would follow him to the Farsight Enclaves, where Commander Farsight taught O’vera’s men how to remove the chips emplaced by the Ethereal caste. O’vera then returned to carve out a new Tau Empire, as well as to awaken the rest of the Tau to the manipulation of their leaders.
However, the renegade Tau forces could barely make any progress into the Tau Empire, and instead turned on the local human worlds to increase their strength. This lead to a conflict with the forces of chaos that almost caused an end to the rebellion, if it wasn’t for the legion of Grayknights who had appeared to cleanse the world of the chaos taint. After this, and a few more human world conquests by O'vera, the Tau Empire realized that fighting the rebellion was a mistake, as any forces sent to battle the renegade commander’s troops would either join their cause or come back butchered.
As the threat of the rebels truth being spread through the rest of the Tau Empire however, the Ethereals adopted an isolationist policy with the new sept. The Tau Empire cut off all relations with the rebels, hoping that would contain the threat to the society of the Empire. Before the doors of communication, trade, and aid was closed though, many Tau and even some of their allies had joined their cause, including a number of members from the water and earth caste (in addition to additional fire and air caste), a Vespid strain, and even a few dozen Ethereal (it should be noted that, despite still having their position as advisers, their words are taken with suspicion in the new sept).
With their complete seperation from the Tau Empire, and no longer having to fight off the frequent Tau assaults, the new Sept settled down in their claimed space - ceasing their assault on the nearby human worlds. Instead they focused on the formation of a colony that would become the capital of their new nation, and thus the Sept of En'kair was formed.
Culture:
Although the Sept of En’kair ultimately separated over cultural differences, their culture is still mostly that of Tau proper. Tau in the fringe empire are still separated into different tasks which have their proper place in society, however these rolls have been expanded in En’kair. This is drastically apparent in the fire caste who were once resigned to a life of warfare, now the fire caste takes apart in civil enforcement (police), weapons and defense developers/planners, and rarely, poets or creative writers. The Tau society is still separated into ranks as well as castes, and the naming system is largely kept the same (a small note on names however. Given that everyone that is apart of the Sept of En’kair were denounced by their homeworlds, their second name is thus named after their new planet, En’kair. For example, a fire caste lieutenant named Jien would be known as Shas’el En’kair Jien etc).
Another striking similarity between the Sept of En’kair and Tau proper is the philosophy of the Greater Good. It is to be noted that the Tau Separatists did not differ from the Empire over the philosophy, but the practice of the Greater Good. Now, their society continues to practice the greater good, but each individual is left to decide how he or she wishes to contribute, not how they’re expected to. This is largely reflected in the government, which now deals with the struggle of ensuring the benefit of over a billion new citizens by itself from whatever contributions are given to them from the people.
Economically, the Sept of En’kair could best be described as a pseudo communist ‘socialist’ state. Somewhat like communism/socialism, the majority of jobs are controlled by the government in some way, shape, or form. An example would be the Earth Caste farmers who sell their goods directly to the government, who then distributes it as needed to feed the population of the four systems under their control. The farmers are then allowed to keep any excess crops they grow, and sell these for extra credits to buy any comforts they may need or upgrades/land for their farm (the government generally supplies credits/land for Earth caste that show skill in their work). In this way, the populace is taken care of for their basic needs of housing, food, and education, yet can still work to get into a better position in life or more comforts.
