Incident 23/09 (Open, MT, Introduction).

Galony
23-04-2009, 17:56
Over Elshire City, Galony.
5:01pm, 23rd April 2009.

"Status normal."

The five F-16 Flying Falcons flew over Elshire City at a high speed, having just taken off from Elshire City Air Base. It was a routine patrol, mainly to stretch the pilots legs. The city was just beside the coast, a few large ships docking in, most carrying cargo though a few military ships were there, just keeping watch just in case. The large North American country had never been at war in its one hundred year history, but that didn't stop the government keeping its guard up. The country was quite paranoid for unspoken reasons, and despite the country falling into recession thanks to economic mismanagement by the previous government, the military was still well maintained.

The sun was shining today, with no clouds in the sky. It was a beautiful day, unlike last week's thunderstorms and heavy rain. The Falcons were flying over Stadium Elshire, the national stadium in which association football games were played at regularly. Highwood was nearby, the stadium for rugby football, just beside Elshire Park, for cricket. The stadiums were empty today, numerous matches being played in the various leagues and cups of Galony rather.

"Unknown unit 12 o'clock."

In the sky, there were several planes flying towards the group. They instantly advanced upward, and all fears were ended whenever the national flag was spotted on the planes.

"Unit friendly."

The Falcons dropped altitude back to their rate beforehand, and, after twenty minutes of patrolling the city, went towards the sea, keeping an eye on Galonian waters as well as land. After all, paranoia was the state ideology of Galony.

In the sea, a large ship, probably an aircraft carrier was spotted by one of the younger pilots. The Falcons flew above the ship, and it was confirmed it was an aircraft carrier. A gut feeling told all of the pilots that it wasn't Galonian. After all, Galony only had a few carriers, nearly all of them at dock.

"Unknown naval unit on the coast. Co-ordinates sent."

"Copy that."

The Falcons continued circling above the ship, waiting for its actions. If all went expected, President Eden would be dealing with an international incident by supper.

5 Nautical Miles from Elshire City, Galony.
5:40pm, 23rd April 2009.

The Invincible-class aircraft carrier FSS Territorial was sailing once again, her crew at work. Captain David Lawrence downed his tea quickly, walking quickly into the Air Base. The ship had been at dock for a month, and it was good to be in command of her again for Lawrence. He was overlooking the first five F-16s take off, heading off to replace the original five up in the air who had been up to a patrol earlier today. Those aircraft landed soon after the Territorial's Falcons were in the air, refuelling quickly.

Lawrence couldn't make out the unknown aircraft carrier in the distance, though the ship's radar could. It was huge, dwarfing everything in the Federated States Navy. He wouldn't like to battle with that thing anytime soon in the ageing Territorial. Hopefully, Galony might get a supercarrier soon. Though that was but a dream, and the government just wanted a few medium carriers and light carriers. No military company in Galony had the resources to build a supercarrier, though plenty of foreign companies had already built many of them, so a few years after the recession ended, it wouldn't be idiotic to think of a supercarrier. Though by then, Lawrence would be retired. Damn.

Lawrence exited the Air Base and headed straight to Communications. As soon as he got there, he asked the one question he had been pondering for a few minutes.

"Any communications from the ship out there?"

"No, sir."

Lawrence frowned. "Let's see what happens now. It's just in international waters?"

"Just about. We know very little about what they plan to do, Sir. But for the moment, we leave it alone."

James April had his headset on, sipping his cup of tea every once in a while. The tea was hot and strong, just the way he liked it. He was trying to intercept any radio traffic from the nearby foreign supercarrier, but so far he was failing. There seemed to be to no traffic coming from it, and he was starting to worry. This ship wasn't talking at all - likely - or the decryption wasn't working - likely.

He decided to mark this recording for the President. Yes, there wasn't any noise, but it was still worrying; what where these foreigners up to?

Captain Lawrence snatched the radio from his assistant's hand and started to speak into it, the message directed straight to the foreign ship just about not in Galonian waters.

"Unknown vessel, unknown vessel, this is Captain John Lawrence of the FSS Territorial, and I request you leave your current position so as to cause national security concerns in Galony, over."

"RBS Independance, RBS Independence, we would request that your ship moves away from international waters very near to Galonian waters. We are concerned that a supercarrier is one mile from our waters, and we request you withdraw to international waters further from Galonian waters so as to avoid raising national security concerns in our country. Over."

Lawrence put it down again, sat down and asked for a cup of tea. It would take a while to convince these stubborn idiots to move away.

Lawrence sipped his cup of tea. It was hot, a bit too hot, but he wouldn't complain. There were more important matters at hand which would cancel out the need for a complaint about a cup of tea bdeing slightly too hot for Lawrence to enjoy right away.

Whenever the latest Battlehawkian communication came in, Lawrence was suprised by the captain's use of the informal phrase 'let's get one thing clear'. That was a first for him to hear that over a radio, but he brushed it off.

"RBS Independance, RBS Independance, we have located an area further out which is unpopulated by storms and it is expected it will not be struck by a storm soon. Co-ordinates sent, over."

Lawrence finished off the last of his tea and stared at the radio. The Battlehawkians were taking a while to reply. He wouldn't talk to them again until they messaged him. Until then, the ship would keep advancing towards the Independance.

Lawrence noted how many ships were named Independance, before deciding to pick up the radio again. If the Battlehawkians went on total silence, he had no idea what he would do.

"RBS Independance, RBS Independance, do you agree to our request? Over."

The Triton was making 29 knots, since things had escallated with her sister ship the Atlas they had been pushing it to come to her aid. They were the closest of the 6 operating Philimbesian carriers, close but still a ways out. They're course brought them way too close to national waters for the Captains liking but it was needed.

"Sir!" The RADAR operator called.

"Double Contact two carriers."

Captain Brian Barker glanced over at the op. "How far?"

"75 Nautical Miles. One ship is in Galony's waters, the other international.

"Keep me posted." Not much was going to slow him down getting to the Atlas, he knew Bartlet would get herself into a pickle eventually she was going to need the air power he had.

International waters near Galony.
8:02pm, 23rd April 2009.

Five B-1 Lancer strategic bombers were flying above the RBS Independance, having just taken off from a nearby military base. They had noted a movement by the Independance further away from national waters, though they wouldn't allow the Battlehawkians to move closer. The escorting ships probably weren't far now, so if they were going to attack the supercarrier, it would have to happen soon.

The Lancers decided just to hover above the supercarrier. Attacking it without being provoked would be political suicide and would probably give the Battlehawk a new state. They were just waiting to so what the Battlehawkians would do with five F-16s and five Lancers flying over their ship.

8:21pm, 23rd April 2009.

The F-16s seemed to become the guards of the bombers, and formed a protective circle around them, right above the supercarrier. Whenever the radar picked up a few 'F-32s' flying towards them, the Lancers got ready to drop their bombs and possibly start a war, while the F-16s were ready to attack the Battlehawkians, starting a war anyway. It all depended on if the Battlehawkians were cowards or if they were hunters, really.

The Territorial was still there, all ready to defend and attack if needed. Another carrier of the same class would be joining her quickly, the FSS Sabretooth.

BRIDGE OF THE TRITON

"Sir..." The captain was getting tired of hearing is RADAR op say that "Secondary contact, on our six, closing fast. Signatures is an Invincible class carrier, matching that of one of the first two, the other is an Excelsior carrier."

Barker grabbed his binoculars and check in front of him, black specks circuled high above larger dots in the water. He could barely make out the colors of the larger dot, it looked like... "Battlehawk." He said, who in their right mind would attack a Battlehawk cruiser with an invincible class ship. He strained his eyes. Couldn't make out the colors of the ship.

"Launch the fighters, Open a channel, all frequencies."

"Unidentified ship, this is the USPS Triton, stand down your persuit immediately!"

4 F/18 screamed off the catapults and into the sky. In unison the executed high g turn and streaked passed the carrier, enroute to intercept the ship behind it.

As Battlehawkian planes were closing in, the Lancers and F-16s didn't move. The F-16s stood their guard. The two aircraft carriers visible on the sea. Both seemed to be staring at Independance, expecting the worst. A nearby air base, New Leinstar Air Base, was on high alert, several F-16s and B-1s ready to take off at any moment if the tensions exploded into a full out battle.

One of the F-16s fired a warning shot.

One of the F-16s took off in pursuit of the F-32s, the others standing put. The pilot followed them, his weapons ready but not firing anything. A few more F-16s jetted off from New Leinster, about three, and they looked set to join in on the pursuit, their weapons ready.

The carriers moved slightly backwards, as if retreating. Or were they just luring the supercarrier? That was for the captain of the Independance to decide.

If the Battlehawkians were well up-to-date with news in Galony, they would know that security forces had been strengthened in Elshire City, several destroyers, cruisers, patrol boats and ground forces put on high alert. Clearly the Galonians were expecting something.

President John Henry Eden had been evacuted to Alwood, a city in southern Galony. Just in case.

As the Pennsylvanian Destroyer Squadron approached Galonian waters, a small Sheffield-class guided missile destroyer started sailing slightly north of the DESRON. It was actually on a routine patrol run, with no ambitions to get involved in the madness unless President Eden ordered them to. The FSS Ruane, named after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Doctor Patricia Ruane, was approaching the DESRON slowly yet confidently, and it sent a message to the DESRON squadron.

"Pennsylvanian Destroyer Squadron, Pennsylvanian Destroyer Squadron, this is the FSS Ruane, requesting why your squadron is on course near Galonian waters. We warn you that there is a heated situation in our waters and request you leave."

11:46pm, 23rd April 2009.

President John Henry Eden had his face in his hands. The situation in the seas had gone mad, and it was only a matter of time until those damned bloody foreigners kicked off a whole fiasto because they just couldn't withdraw from a country whose Navy would probably lose several ships to one supercarrier, which was obviously why he didn't want a supercarrier just not in Galony's waters. Then everybody else had joined the Battlehawkian bandwagon and before his breakfast of cereal, toast, eggs and tea his Navy would probably be wiped out, the economy in a deep hole and public opinion turning towards the Galonian National Socialist Party. He downed the last of his whiskey and kicked the small table it had been sitting on, knocking it over.

He quickly called up the Chief of Staff, General Harry Lucas.

"Lucas? Hello...yes, I know..."
"Get the military on high alert...no, I am not crazy, we have three foreign fleets near our waters, goddamn it!"
"Yes, I've been drinking whiskey..understood, I'll stop for the night...Bye."

2:24am, 24th April 2009.

The FSS New Leinster, an Iroquois-class destroyer, had just got in range of a USPA vessel, in the midst of the chaos. It was stocked with missiles and full with fuel, having just came out of the New Leinster Coastal Naval Base. It had its orders, which would start a war most likely.

Three missiles took off, approaching the USPA vessel at an alarming speed. It was getting closer...

2 of the Missiles were Downed, and the 3rd Fell for the Chaff and exploded 1,200 Feet behind the Cruiser, but its shockwave alone played hell with almost all of the Electronics onboard

At the same moment, 18 Harpoons took off towards the New Leinster

17 of the Harpoons hit the New Leinster, sinking it. The other one was actually forced away from hitting the destroyer by the other 17 missiles, and it just about hit the FSS Territorial, started it on its way to sinking.

3:01am, 24th April 2009.

The FSS Workhorse, a Virginia-class submarine, was sneaking beneath the chaos of the waves, going unnoticed by the ships busy with battling above. It was given a quick mission, fire a few torpedoes and get out of the battle. The Workhorse had to sink one or two ships.

It had just got in range of a USPA vessel. It was just about in range of a Philimbesian vessel.

"Fire torpedo one, two, three four, first two at USPA, others at Philimbesi!" shouted the captain.

In a few minutes, four torpedoes were fired. Two were going for the USPA vessel, the others at the nearest Philimbesian ship. As soon as the torpedoes were launched, the Workhorse started on full speed back to the nearest naval base, its mission unknown even to the Galonian ships above.

OOC: OK we'll pretend that a Nimitz Class Carrier wouldn't notice a sub... as much as we'll pretend that a nation that has a Defense budget (http://nstracker.jfsoftware.com/index.php?nation=Galony) of 0.00 can afford any of the stuff you've launched at us already....

BRIDGE OF THE USPS Triton

"Contact! Incoming torpedoes!" The sonar op called out. "Bearing one zero nine, NIXIE has been deployed and is active. At the end of the tether at a safe distance the NIXIE system began to return the torpedoes pings amplifying them and sending them back in an attempt to confuse and decoy the torpedoes.

Airspace Above The Triton.

"Ghostrider 1 this is Blackjack I've got a heading on where the torpedoes came from, enroute. Let's go Harlequin, we've got a sub to hit."

Helipad 1 USPS Triton

The rotors on the MH-60 started came to full speed an it gracefully lifted of heading the direction of the orgin of the torpedoes. They would begin ALFS soon. They would find her, and there would be hell to pay.

BRIDGE OF THE USPS Helix SSBN 1

Captain Kym Walker had no idea what they had done to his Virgina Class sub, but he liked it. After the drydock in Hyperion Cay it was faster and more maneuverable then it had ever been.

"Captain Urgent Message from the Triton. Torpedo's fired from this heading!"

"Set course, all hand Battlestations. Charge the tubes. Looks like we get to play with the new weapons boys!"

While this conflict was going on between multiple countries, the older and almost decommisioned Hr.Ms Stabler (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/SNS_Dedalo_(R01)_underway.jpg), an Independece class light aircraft carrier, of the Noordeinde Navy sailed multiple Nautical miles away from this conflict.

The 4 F35 Joint Strike Fighters (http://norway.usembassy.gov/uploads/5r/1_/5r1_vV-0hgHZFh5AN0Fjxw/JSF_real_500x400.jpg), who normally would be onboard, were in the air and noticed what was going on, they immediatly reported to the bridge of the Hr.Ms Stabler (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/SNS_Dedalo_(R01)_underway.jpg) what was going on.

Captain John Cabbot first opened a channel to the Galony Navy because it seemed to be that this conflict was going on in Galony waters.

"This is Captain John Cabbot of the Hr.Ms Stabler (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/SNS_Dedalo_(R01)_underway.jpg) of the Noordeinde Navy, we noticed a conflict going on in Galony waters, can we have a status report of what's going on?!"

"Captain intercepted message on Galony radio. "

The message from Noordeinde was relayed to the captain. He looked at his bearing and location. "Apparently he's looking at a different map than me since we're smack international waters and he thinks were in Galonys... open a chanel"

"Noordeinde vessel this the USPS Triton, use extreme caution as the Galonian has fired with no warning on several different vessels in the area!"

Captain Cabbot decided to answer to the Philimbesi Navy.

"Captain Cabbot of the Hr.Ms Stabler (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/SNS_Dedalo_(R01)_underway.jpg) here of the Noordeinde Navy, we understood your transmittion, we will be look be on the look-out for hostile manouvres of Galony. OOC: Right now too much of the story is up in the air. Have to wait to see if the torpedoes took the bait, and what his sub is doing to evade the ALFS.

"17 Nautical... that's around where the sub was Captain."

"Use extreme caution there is an unaccounted for submarine in the vicinity, an attack group of our F18's (4) and a helicopter is now searching the area, using ALFS. They have been alerted to your location and will not attack. "

"Also be advised, a Philimbesian marked fleet is due in from heading one eight zero. 4 Hobart Destroyers and 2 Virgina Submarines. "

The planes which are airborn were airborn for exercising take-offs and landings on the carrier, and while flying they discovered what is going on, all planes are unarmed and not in the air for combat.)

IC:The Captain was quite upset, afther being being in command of the Hr.Ms Stabler (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/SNS_Dedalo_(R01)_underway.jpg) for over 15 years this world trip had to be great without any conflicts. But it was to late, and becomming emotional wouldn't be good as well and would be unproffesional. The Captain acknowledged the transmittion of the USPS Triton and transmitted back.

"Understood, directions of the Philimbesi fleet, we won't disturb them. And ofcourse were going to use extreme caution from now on due the hostile submarine."

"By the way, special attentions for your F18's, we are going to withdraw the F35 Joint Strike Fighters (http://www.ois.com/images/stories/ois/f35_2.jpg) onboard, and prepare them for combat, afther that process they will be airborn again to support you and the Pensylvannian fleet who seems to be under attack as well."

(ooc: If you might not know what the term "plane guard" means, our Navy uses Helicopters, which fly next to the carriers deck while planes take-off and land as safety precaution for planes which might end up in the water due a bad landing etc... So that they can safe and rescue the pilot immediatly.)
