Kylesvakia announces right to state-hood, invasion imminent

Borman Empire

The heavy fist slammed down on the table, bringing silence to the collection of men who’d been wildly bickering only minutes ago.

“Do you have any idea what you’re suggesting? What you’re asking? The Empire will surely respond in force.”

“We are not part of The Borman Empire! Yes, we’ve long been under their influence, their policies have directed us – we’ve been treated like a province, but we aren’t! We have never been a state or a province. Technically, we’re just a swath of completely free, nation-less land South-West of the Empire. We’ve never been a nation, we’ve just been a group of tribes, colonists, citizens, whatever title one may wish to apply! But we were never officially conquered, annexed, or incorporated. We never had a government to lose on our behalf. We are free and have the right to declare our own statehood!”

“But The Empire will crush us!”

“The International Community will not allow it!”

As this point Dmitri Sheizhare withdrew his heavy fist from the table as men stood up, applauding Gaius Steffanphan following his speech. Dmitri slumped back in his chair, he led what was clearly a minority as chants of state-hood filled the room and debated moved towards a potential name for the state.

His has been the losing side, now he would need to suffer whatever consequences might come because of Steffanphan’s plan.

From: Gaius Steffanphan, President of the newly-formed Kylesvakian state

Hello, and greetings to all. My name is Gaius Steffanphan, and I serve as President of Kylesvakia. As you are probably unaware, Kylesvakia is a completely new nation – formed just this day. While we are located southwest of Borman Empire in a territory which has long been treated by The Empire as a province of their, we have, for centuries, remained free of any form of government. Borman’s claim to our territory was never officially made or recognized. In essence – we’ve been living in, however contradictory it may sound, organized anarchy for hundreds of years.

However, we’ve taken the first step in reversing that. A movement long-since in the building has bore fruit today and resulted in the declaration of the right to state-hood of Kylesvakia. Our declaration is not one of independence, but because of our unique scenario, one of a right to state-hood. Ours is a veritable declaration of our existence.

However, to some degrees, it carries some of the undertones of a declaration of independence. For the number one Kylesvakian fear at this time, is Borman Empire. We are quite confident that an invasion is imminent in response to our actions – and know full well we would never survive such a thing.

Therefore, I implore you, nations of the International Community, to recognize us in our state-hood and if, at all possible, please – contribute what you can to our defense and the future of our nation.

Thank you for your time,
Gaius Steffanphan

"Have we any choice but to aid these Kylesvakians? Theirs seems to be a peaceful movement, and if they are to be a new state, what would Zakuvia have to lose in gaining a new ally?"

"Losing an old friend, Senator." An older man said. "If we aid these dissidents, then we would lose what fleeting grasp we have in trade agreements with the Borman Empire. They have supplies in desperate need, and to lose them for some petty band of rabble? If anything, I say we aid the Bormans in quelling this uprising. They themselves said they're expecting the Bormans to take a militant footing. And you know what that means...they're setting themselves up to play the martyr. One Empire should stand with another!" A round of applause from the Senate came from one end to another.

"So it stands," said the Arch Minister of the Senate. "We must come to a vote. With either decision stands the threat of shed blood. Though we shall all pray that it is not ours spilled, it is therefore fitting that we take this vote with the direst of importance in mind. Go now, my friends, and may the will of the Empire guide your..." A great horn sounded, loud, but not shatteringly so, although its deep blare caused a grave silence to fall on the room.

From an alcove high above the seats of the Senate floor stood a carved chair of black amber, ancient, yet kept immaculate out of reverie and respect. Behind it was a large red curtain, lined with black and golden thread. From behind it came two guards, resplendent in their battle armor, glinting like walking statues of gold and ebony. Standing at either side of the throne, their motionlessness hid a lethality created of decades of service and training. A droning chant echoed from unseen singers, the entrant hymn of the Emperor in their throats. As the Senate bowed its head, the Emperor made his way to his throne. In his night-black robe he was nearly invisible in the chair, save for two glowing shards of eyes.

"As you were." The Senators, still hushed, sat back in their seats, awaiting his counsel. The coming of the Emperor was something of great importance, as his word was the will of the Empire. "Tell me, elder Senator, what is the driving factor of our Empire?" He blanched. Repeating the line he was taught as a child by memory, he stuttered out,

"Balance, my lord. Balance is the key for victory and prosperity."

"Why then, is there only two options available to you and your peers?" His mouth gaped, an answer long in coming. "Perhaps an alternative is in order? Why take one side, at the expense of another, when we can have everything? Our allies have been lax in their treatment of their citizens, and that is unacceptable. To accept that as the only truth, and abandon them like toys is as it sounds...childish. What we must do is convince their government to give the people what is is they seek: recognition. Not as a new state, but as equal and respected members of their old home. Give them this, and we all shall see true happiness. For the Empire." With this, the chant grew louder, and the Emperor made his leave, his guards following shortly behind, disappearing from behind the curtain.

"Gentlemen," announced the Arch Minister, "I believe our decision has been made."

Likud, the capital city, is in the center. The five next biggest cities are marked.
It's mountainous against the strait and on the opposite site of Kylesvakian territory. Otherwise it's mainly plain.

There is no port or dock on Marzpezi's side, however, there is a beach one could land at.

All the ports are on the opposite side, the Twin Cities being the two biggest ports.

The local Borman magistrate stepped out onto the porch of his building, his body guard securely locking the establishment behind him.

He drew in a deep breath of air, he loved the smell of spring.

“Locked and ready to go sir.”

“Excellent,” he said, stepping down to the ground and turning towards his home, several blocks away.

The two began the walk, chatting noisily as they always did. They got two blocks before their speech began to taper off. Their conversation wasn’t growing stale, much to the contrary, they’d found an immensely interesting new topic to discuss. However, this topic was what brought the tapering – the fact that they hadn’t seen a soul on the street or in windows the entire walk.

Normally the pair would’ve tipped their hands to a handful of people, families out for a late night stroll, couples enjoying each other, children walking dogs, and more. Not this night, this night was completely empty.

The Magistrate’s guard became nervous, reaching into his jacket to fondle his weapon as they continued the rest of the walk – in silence.

As they rounded the next block, the Magistrate’s house in sight, they noticed a small collection of men gathered in a circle between them and the Magistrate’s house.

The group was talking in hushed voices before they saw the pair, then broke up and began to approach them.

The two had distance on their side, and decided to use it. They turned to go back from whence they’d came. But, to no avail. Halfway down the block doors were opening and streams of men coming out, brandishing what seemed like bats and clubs.

A quick flick of the head revealed that the same was approaching from the left and right – they were trapped.

As the circle began to close in, colors, faces, and shapes became vaguely distinguishable. The pair began to recognize people as the entire circle stopped, some fifty feet out from them.

“By order of the President of Kylesvakia, you are hereby under arrest for crimes against the state. Come with us peacefully, or we will be forced to use force.”

At this, the bodyguard drew his machine pistol, pulling the Magistrate behind him and spinning in a circling motion, attempting to face all the foes at once. “You are the ones committing crimes against the state! You will not lay a hand on the Magistrate, disperse immediately and all will be forgotten.

It was then that the bodyguard heard the familiar click of an automatic weapon. As the hair on the back of his neck began to stand, he saw many of the men stand forward, brandishing XM8s and discarded Doomani SMGs. The Magistrate laid his hand on his bodyguard, signaling him to lower his weapon.

As he did, the circle closed, placing the pair in handcuffs and leading them off.

------------------------------

Scenes like this were repeated throughout all of Kylesvakia, Magistrates, engineers, soldiers, policemen, and more being escorted away by armed mobs.

Now it was on, Borman officials across the territory had been placed into handcuffs – something The Empire had never forgiven before, and would not this time.

What elements of The Empire’s human infrastructure could, fled to the mountains bordering the straits. The Empire had establish numerous fortified pockets throughout the mountains – here the officials would find safety.

But for how long.

“Anemos Major!? Who the hell are they?”

The aide stepped forward, bending low to the ground as he took the intelligence folder from Bhalk’s hands. Withdrawing to the back of the room, Chancellor Licinius took over.

“Well Sir, much like The Battlehawk, they’re not exactly a new nation, but one which has come to prominence following our heyday.”

“And what gives them the damn right to meddle in OUR affairs!? This is our issue, not theirs.”

“Agreed, Sir. However, intelligence indicates that the rebel leader requested assistance from the international community, as well as seeking confirmation of their so-called “Right to state-hood.” It appears these two nations are the first to respond.”

“Well, we could just invade both of them – but I don’t have the patience for that. Ignore them for now, we’ll issue a statement if more little pricks decide to get in the way. Until then, mobilize the fifth army and deploy them along with two mechanized divisions on the border. I want regular naval forces blockading coastal waters nearest us and submarine units outside of Marzpezi.”

“Understood, Sir.”

-----------------------------------

While Borman would not be quick to admit it, Gaius’ statements were true. Borman, technically, never officially declared control of the area. However, Borman units of both military and civilian nature had been operating inside of the territory for a long time. Much of the infrastructure was the result of Borman engineers and construction crews.

As a result of this, the border was virtually undefended. This is where the military men would need to assemble, in preparation for action.

-----------------------------------

Colonel Valle rubbed the butt of his cigarette into the ash tray on his desk, fighting to find space in the mass of cigarette butts which clogged the dish.

Finishing that, he turned around to face an array of small, square, steel doors behind him. Scanning them for a few seconds he found the one he was looking for, opened it, and pulled a sheaf of maps out.

Col. Valle stood up and walked towards the center of his office, laying the maps down on his command table as various military officers came in. Some of the aids hurried over to unravel the map of Kylesvakian territory – one of extreme detail thanks to Borman cartographers. In fact, The Empire probably possessed more detailed maps of the area than the so-called Kylesvakians did themselves.

“Well Gentlemen, I trust your forces are ready. You all know what’s going on.” Tracing the border between the two areas with his finger he looked back up at the men. “Our entire Army will be fortifying on this border. Now, we’ll be acting in concert throughout the entire action, excluding approach. We’ve been tasked with securing this area of the border – and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

We’re going to practice standard Type C border security – proceeding as soon as this meeting is over. Upon our fortification we will receive small amounts of pre-fabricated defenses which engineers will quickly work to enlarge as we hold the line.

However, it’s more likely we’ll be going in before they can even finish – so it’s likely they’ll see little use.

That’s really all there is. Let’s suit up and move out!”

From the Department of Foreign Affairs of The Romulan Republic to the Government of the Borman Empire:

With regards to the declaration of sovereignty by Kylesvakia, while the Republic remains neutral at this time, it is the policy of this Administration that any war crimes or other human rights abuses deliberately authorized or conducted in an effort to punish or retake this region will be condemned by the Republic, and may result in sanctions against the Borman Empire. We furthermore urge the Borman Empire to act with caution and restraint, and to consider a diplomatic resolution. Should the Borman Empire wish for a negotiated settelment, the Republic would be willing to act as an impartial mediator.

From the Department of Foreign Affairs of The Romulan Republic to all nations attempting to assist the revolutionaries in Kylesvakia:

The Republic urges caution and restraint in the hopes of finding a peaceful solution to this conflict. Furthermore, while we maintain neutrality at this time, we wish to once again make it clear that any war crimes or human rights abuses committed by any party will be strongly condemned and may result in sanctions.

"The Battlehawk promised they would defende Kylesvakia in their quest for state-hood, it appears they're going to follow through with it."

"Thank you, son. Resume your work, I'll pass this off."

Within a matter of minutes, Bhalk was seated with his military heads in the conference room. Pictures of the carrier fleet slowly slid acorss a large projector screen set up on a wall.

Bhalk turned from the pictures, a terrible scowl fixated on his face. "These bastards intend to stand against us. What can we throw against them?"

"Admiral Smith is in command of the first through third fleets which set sail for Mediterranica only an hour ago, but are likely not needed. I've recalled them to enact a blockade through the strait, they should be in position in two hours, maximum."

Another Naval officer leaned forward, locking eyes with Bhalk as he camly stated, "We have the twenty first and twenty second fleets in western naval bases in Barkozy territory. We can bring them up in a 9:00 pattern, engaging in Tactical Option CU."

"Do it, immediately."

Licinius held the message in his hand, thinking it over. This was a direct message to the government, not an open announcement as the others had been. More so, this one didn't recognize Kylesvakia - only asked The Empire to hold itself to something.

Licinius decided that, given the circumstances, a response would be prudent. So, he grabbed an aide and drafted a reply.

We respect and appreciate the views and words of your nation.

A negotiated settlement would be nice, but unlikely. These ungrateful rabble have exploited The Empire, taken advantage of our protection and labors, and returned thanks by imprisoning our officials.

If the rebellious territory apologizes to The Empire, returns all imprisoned officials, regonizes Borman's control and ownership of the territory, and turns over the men who led this illegal movement - then we can peacefully work things out.

It is unlikely this will happen. Ergo, unfortunately, combat seems the only choice left.

President Hernandez sighed as he finished reading the reply from the Borman Empire. It was a dificult situation, and as much as he sympathized with the rebels in Kylesvakia, he was not sure that he could justly recognize their sovereignty, much less support them in an armed revolt, based on the information available at this time. Certainly not after his administration had offered, rashly he felt now, to act as an impartial mediator. It was true that the Republic was impartial in the sense of not having ties with either faction and sought a just solution to the conflict, but it was equally true that his administration's sympathies would lie, almost by default, with the rebels.

Still, their might yet be a peaceful and fair solution. After a night of frenzied debate in the cabinate, a plan of action was established.

From the Office of President Hernandez to the Government of the Borman Empire:

Unfortunately, we cannot recognize your claim over the territory and people of Kylesvakia at this time. Nor, however, are we prepared to recognize their sovereignty at this date. A number of questions remain unanswered, the most important of which are regarding the legal structures in place to deal with this situation. Specifically, did Kylesvakia ever legally sign over control of its territory to the Borman Empire? Is their a process by which Kylesvakia could legally and peacefully obtain independence? And has such an attempt already been made? While these questions are outstanding, The Romulan Republic will withold formal recognition of either side's claim. However, it is also the possition of this administration that if any faction is unwilling to defend their claim with legal evidence, it may be held against said claim.

However, this administration still hopes for, and will be happy to help mediate, a peaceful solution. One that will ideally achieve a just solution that is in the interests of all concerned parties, and within the bounds established by the relevant laws. So in the interests of peace I ask of your government: if the rebels in Kylesvakia agree to suspend armed hostilities and meet to negotiate, will your government agree to do the same?

From the Office of President Hernandez to Gaius Steffanphan:

As you may be aware, The Romulan Republic has offered to act as a mediator between your faction, and the government of the Borman Empire. If the Borman Empire will agree to suspend armed hostilities and meet with your or any of your representatives, I feel confident that a peaceful solution could be achieved which is in the interests of all involved. In the name of your citizen's peace, freedom, and lives, I implore you to accept this offer.

If we are to procede in achieving a peaceful solution, it is nessissary to have full disclosure regarding the legal situation, and specifically weather Kylesvakia ever lawfully signed over its sovereignty to the Borman Empire, weather their is any process by which Kylesvakia could assert its sovereignty lawfully, and weather such an attempt has been made. Until these questions are answered, the Republic will not move to recognize the claims of either faction, while refusal by any faction to pressent legal evidence to defend their claim may be held against said claim.

However, you may also have my assurences that the Republic will not stand by while Kylesvakian people are subjected to oppression or brutality, and that my sympathese are with your people, as with all those afflicted by conflict, in these trying times.

From the Office of President Hernandez to the Government of Battlehawk:

While I sympathize with your efforts to support the rebels in Kylesvakia, The Republic is currently attempting to negotiate a peaceful settelment. Theirfor, I urge your government, in the strongest possible terms, to refrain from firing on any unit of the Borman Empire or its allies unless it initiates hostilities with your forces or those of the Rebels, or engages in attacks on civillians.

Now, in the interests of your own national security, I ask you to withdraw your recognition of this rebellious territory.

Thank you.

Our claim is completely legitimate and just, there is no reason not to accept it. The Empire has been operating within and maintained a presence within the said territory to a period of time dating far back before such legal documents were common practice. I ask you, is your government in position of documents legally guaranteeing them every inch of territory they control? Documents signed by the peoples there, be they your citizens or not?

I don't think any nation is. When almost every nation comes to being, it forms itself from the governmentless plot of land which it resides in, and expands. Hence, initial territories are inherently part of the nation, and said nation would not have such documents to prove control.

The territory in question is one of those areas that an expanding nation, ours, took under its control long ago. As such, we have no such documents and the rebels are illegally revolting against a completely just and legitimate government which they have consented to for many, many years.

As of this time, The Empire is is no way interested in losing said territory, it is critical to defense of The Homeland. However, were The Empire willing to release said province, they could either petition the government for an independence referendum, or it could be granted by the government. Then, a vote of the entire territory would determine whether or not said province would be released from The Empire.

We will meet to negotiate. However, I warn you, independence of the territory is not an option.

Thank you.

Licinius handed paper after paper to Bhalk, each of them a printout of unfavorable information relating to the Kylesvakian problem.

“Sir, a handful of nations have already recognized the rebels as a legitimate and sovereign nation. We fully expect more to join them in doing such.

Further, intelligence indicates that the mercenaries whose offer we replied to, are intent on deploying in favor of the rebels.

The Romulan Republic seems to be the only truly neutral one. Interceptions of their telegrams to the rebels indicates that they are truly walking the path of neutrality and favor neither side in the conflict.”

“So, basically, the Romulan Republic is the only nation we will not need to deliver punitive action towards?”

“That’s correct.”

“I think it’s time for a statement, don’t you?”

“Yes, Sir. I already have one here, I can send it as soon as you’ve approved.

Official Imperial Statement

The Empire wishes to make it abundantly clear that the violent rebels in the so-called “Kylesvakia” province are engaging in completely illegal and intolerable activities. The Empire has long held a legitimate position of government in the territory and is responsible for most, if not all, development, infrastructure, and growth of the province.

For hundreds of years the province has prospered under Imperial rule, but suddenly they’ve decided to engage in a completely illegal action - something we’re sure none of you would stand for in your nation. Were the same situation to occur in your nation, we would not intervene – because it’s not our affair.

This is an internal problem - an internal affair and, save for the government of the Romulan Republic, none need to concern themselves with it. Further, none should try to concern themselves with it.

The Empire has been keeping careful track of the vigilante states that have endorsed or supported the rebels in their movement. If there is no renunciation of such endorsement or support, The Empire will consider such actions as hostile towards The Empire – and respond as such.

The rebels have already engaged in illegal and violent action against Borman officials – something we will not tolerate. If this, as-of-yet, relatively un-violent insurgency takes a bloodier toll, we will do all necessary to ensure the peace and safety of our territory.

Any attempt to aid the rebels in their movement, if this point is reached, will be considered an act of war against The Empire. Any foreign military units found engaging with the enemy will be terminated with extreme prejudice, no prisoners will be taken.

Most excellent, thank you very much!

Attached is a map of our nation ((OOC: Beginning of thread)). The Twin Cities provide our largest and most spacious ports. However, that entire side of our nation has many ample ports.

The South side is devoid of ports and docks, but would also probably be safer from Borman vessels.

We're about to begin peace talks with the Borman Empire, so if you can get all your men to ports before they conclude, you should be able to avoid hostilities from Imperial Naval assets. If, however, you arrive too late - they may block your way.

Hammer-Head submarines glided silently underneath the waves. The fleets taking positions around Kylesvakian shores released their Hammer-Heads to set up a defensive perimeter around Kylesvakia’s southern shore.

Aided by numerous SONAR installations stretching deep into the Gholgoth Gulf and out, these subs would be able to silently lie in wait, ready to stop and intercept any forces attempting to reach Kylesvakian shores.

In a little under an hour, forty five minutes to an hour before The Battlehawk’s carrier fleet arrived, the first elements would be in place. The entire line would be ready and secured shortly before the enemy fleet arrived.

President Hernandez looked the tall, brown haired woman in an Admiral's uniform clearly in the eye.

"I understand your concerns, Admiral Johansen, but I have little choice. We have a chance here to prevent a disastrous conflict, and in any case the decision is made. Since it cannot be altered, we must see it through."

"I understand that Mr. President, of course. But the fact is that our forces in the area are woefully inadequate. We have deployed a single destroyer to an area where at least three powerful navies are staring each other down! The Borman delegation is bringing a battleship. Now, tell me what happens if one of them opens fire? Do I tell Captain Richardson that he is to engage three fleets with a destroyer?"

President Hernandez signed. Now perhaps more than ever before, he felt the burden of his office. The action he was about to take could escalate the situation, and even drag the Republic into a war for which it was not prepared. But it was the right and nessissary course. At this point, the Republic was to some extent committed. At least, he thought with a bitter sort of amusement, the opposition would have something to open the next session of Congress with.

"Your concerns have been anticipated, Admiral Cortez. We have raised the military alert to its highest level short of a declaration of war, and in consultation with the Secretary of Defense I have decided to instruct the main carrier group of the second fleet to approach the area. However, they are not to enter Borman waters, or take any provocative action, unless hostilities are initiated."

"You understand, that if shooting should start, they may be unable to relive the Liberty in time?"

"Yes, Admiral, I understand. However, it is possible that their presence alone will deter any overtly hostile action. And may God help us all if this gets out of hand."

Ten miles from the rendezvous, the RNS Destroyer Liberty was on high alert, its radar monitoring all nearby ships as it broadcast its position, its nationality, and its mission to the various foreign fleets in the area.

Markus Illyanovich folded the paper back up, roughly shoving it into the envelope before tossing it into the fire.

“Let’s move.”

Markus and the other seven men donned their Kylesvakian uniforms, picking up their heavy duffel bags, bottoms sagging down.

Wordlessly, the eight men exited the house, snaking their way through the streets towards the small dock on the edge of town.

“Mr. Bakunin will be on the boat in ten minutes, we need to be set up and ready to go by the time he arrives.”

With that Markus hopped onto the dock, walking quickly down the rough wooden boards to the armored speedboat, tied up at the end. The procession wound their way onto the deck of the boat, pulling XM8s and other military hardware out of the bags, fully loading themselves up for whatever they may come upon.

Markus opened one of the hollowed seats and stuffed the duffel bags on top of the life jackets underneath, ensuring the deck was spick and span.

Markus walked down to the lower levels, opening the door to the bottom cabin.

“Hey, what do you-”

Before the man could finish talking, Markus had drawn his silence pistol.

------------------------------------

“Good Afternoon Mr. Bakunin.”

“Hello there, son.” Mr. Bakunin stepped down onto the deck, shaking hands with a smiling Markus as the other fourteen members of the diplomatic squad followed him. “Are we ready to sail?”

“As soon as you are, Sir.”

“Then let’s go. We’ve got negotiations to get to.”

“Yes, Sir. You men can make your way downstairs. When you reach the bottom level the smaller compartment on your left will be locked, we had a man – well, get quite sick in there a short time ago. The larger one to your right will be fine, though. You men can take position in there until we’ve arrived.”

“Ah, thank you very much.”

With that, the diplomatic team went downstairs as the speedboat slowly pulled out, a wry smile crossing Markus’ face.

"Proceed at half-speed to the rendevous. Maintain an open channel with both parties, and inform me of any developments."

Some hours away, a helicopter touched down on the flight deck of the Republic Aircraft Carrier. Slowly the propellors stopped, the flight crew stood aside, and Admiral stepped forward to greet the helicopter's passengers. Johnathan Green was the highest ranking diplomat in the Republic, a testament to how seriously the Republic was taking these negotiations.

"Greetings, Admiral. Any updates on the situation?"

The Admiral nodded grimly.

"The Liberty has been permitted to proceed, and we have been allowed to deploy one additional destroyer within Borman waters." The Admiral glanced at Ambassador Green, clearly concerned by what she was about to say.

"The rebel delegation will be arriving by speedboat, and the Imperial delegation will be arriving by battleship. The main carrier group must remain outside. However, we will be standing by to intervene should it prove nessissary, and are doing everything possible to neutralize the situation."

Green nodded.

"I'm sure you are Admiral." But he felt uneasy. It didn't take his experience to figure out one faction bringing a battleship while the other brought a speed boat could be construed as an attempt at intimidation, or worse, an intent to ambush the negotiations. Either way, it could only make his job more difficult.

Offical Foreign Ministry Statement

Parthia does not recognize any form of secessionist movement being undertaken in the province of Kylesvakia, nor, do we recognize the government of this alleged state. Insofar as we are concerned, this rogue breakaway republic is still an integral part of our allies, the Borman Empire, and as such, any efforts taken to maintain it as an integral part of the Borman Empire are wholeheartedly supported by the Shahdom.

While we are fully expecting the Borman Military to deal with these secessionists in a manner suitable for rebels and traitors, and are expecting this to be taken care of rather quickly, we find the intervention of certain liberal democratic nations in this conflict to be worrisome, and therefore, are required to make a statement regarding their support for the secessionists.

Put simply, we find these opinions to be of poor thought and in need of reconsideration. There is no legitimate reason for Kylesvakia to secede, and, as such, it still is, according to the Shahdom, a part of the Borman Empire. As such, it is of necessity to mention that we consider an intervention into the affairs of the Borman Empire to be an act of war against the Borman Empire, and will, as their allies, move to support them should such support be requested.

~From the desk of Lord Damien the Destroyer, Supreme Warlord of the New Gothic Empire of Automagfreek~

The New Gothic Empire of Automagfreek stands firmly behind our Gothic brothers in the Borman Empire, and though we are more than confident in their ability to handle any situation that comes their way, we are prepared to assist in any manner possible. We do not recognize Kylesvakia as an independent state, and we trust that their treason against the Borman Empire will be dealt with swiftly. This unlawful act must not be allowed to stand.

To the outsiders who seek to interfere in the affairs of our Gothic brother, be warned. You will find nothing but blood and death ahead of you, and it would be wise to refrain from interfering in affairs that do not concern you. The Borman Empire has every right to bring these criminals to justice by whatever means they deem necessary, and we stand behind them without question, no matter what they ultimately decide to do.

Should we be given the word by our esteemed allies, AMF will lay waste to the intruders directly and make them pay for violating Gholgoth's borders and intruding into Borman territory. If needed we will also send in whatever forces required to assist our ally in achieving victory, however large or small. In the meantime, I have ordered a fleet to set sail and drive back these unwelcome foreigners and prevent more from seeping in. One does not simply walk into Gholgoth and live to tell the tale...

Let it not be said that Gholgoth is dead. As always, our Freekish allies have come out to support us - pledging their legendary assistance to us in our cause. Truly their actions serve to show all that it's not just Gholgoth that lives, but justice as well.

Clearly our distress at the death of common sense and sanity was a bit on the dramatic side, it appears there are still multiple sane nations in this world. With the aid of our Freekish allie, and old allies such as Doomingsland and The Parthians - we can ensure that justice reigns supreme, rather than the oppression that Oseato, The Battlehawk, and more are seeking to lay down upon us.

We applaud and thank our Freekish allies, once more proving themselves to be more than worthy of the Gholgan title. Their dispatched forces are, as always, welcomed to the fray and we shall surely take up their offer if we need more assistance, in either reclaiming the territory or punishing those who aided the rebels.

Long live Automagfreek.

Long live The Empire.

Long live Gholgoth.

The crescent moon shone thin streaks of light down upon an otherwise complete blackness engulfing the Gorgan mountain chain. From his position looking down into the plains, the Borman soldier lied motionless in the shade blocking even the weak rays of light from the moon.

The Imperial Defensive Tunnel Network, begun only a year ago, had allowed those Imperial units within Kylesvakia to retreat to safety in a small network of tunnels crisscrossing through the mountain chain. From the hidden entrances, units would routinely emerge and disappear, keeping ever constant watch upon the paths to the mountains – ready for the rebel attack.

The nights had grown increasingly duller as the large mercenary convoy faded from even the sight of binoculars. Men now traced and retraced asterisms in the sky, occasionally glancing upon the empty paths and barren foothills approaching the Imperial stronghold.

This night was different though.

The soldier flicked his eyes down from the sky, lazily scanning the sights before shifting his eyes back up to watch for shooting stars. But, wait. Hadn’t he seen movement? In a cautious tilt, the man lowered his head a bit more. motionlessly activating night vision on his helmet. There. Vertically down several hundred feet was an erratic flurry of motion.

Swinging his BEWD semi-automatic machine gun from his shoulder, he wrapped his fingers around before inching forward ever so slightly – careful to stay in the dark.

Future plans included thin ‘voice tunnels’ which were essentially tubes in the ground that allowed a watchman to speak into the tube and project his voice from a different location. However, the rebels had moved long before these installations were finished. For now, he would have to rely on his rusty voice-throwing ability.

“Halt! In the name of the Emperor, who goes there!?”

Silence.

“I said-”

A bullet snapped by, burying itself into the dirt no less than a foot from him. Instantly, the man had squeezed the trigger, sending streams of hot lead down towards the source of motion.

His release was met with another bullet whizzing by before he heard a groan and the slump of a falling body.

Standing up straight and stepping forward, the watchman exposed himself to the moonlight, and suddenly found a bullet careening towards him from his left, embedding itself into his elbow.

He sunk back, retreating to the shadow. This was his first combat mission – his first wound, and the pain was pounding through his head. As it began to fade and he began to grow aware of bullets, seemingly from both sniper rifles and automatic weapons, flying by him, he also noticed the voice ringing in his ears.

“Unit four, respond immediately! We have dispatched backup, requesting visual confirmation on what we’re receiving.”

“I’m here, I’m here. I’ve been shot in the elbow, left arm is out of commission and I’m taking fire from numerous positions.”

As the last words left his lips, a grenade soared next to him, activating his reflex which sent him rolling away – unfortunately, he rolled down towards the enemy.

The watchman leapt up, weapon firmly held in his right hand and his left hand weakly grasping it. He could now make out the shapes of men sporadically leaning out from the cover of various rocks and hills. He manage to fell a few before lines of fire connected on him, sending numerous waves of pain throughout his body as he limply fell towards the ground.

One had severed his spine and he now laid there motionless, just living long enough to see Imperial units opening fire from behind him. But before they could reach him, a stream of bullets made their way to his head.

As the few firing holes that were constructed facing The Empire opened up, allowing several units to safely fire at the rebels, Imperial units had hurried around from the outside and were now flanking the watchman’s corpse.

Only thirty or so had made it, more being brought in from deeper parts of the tunnel network.

An intense firefight was erupting, Imperial units sending showers of bullets down upon the rebels who relied primarily on sniper fire to drop Imperial units. However, the rebels were still moving up.

The Borman soldiers were ill-prepared for this. The tunnels had started out woefully short of manpower, possessing mainly new recruits who’d never seen combat; a deployment pattern which was insanely rare in The Imperial Army, but thought safe because of the location of the deployment. It was thought wrong.

Many of the rebels had served stints in the armed forces or local militias and were adept at the military crawl, managing to get near enough to the thin portholes in the ground and drop a grenade or two in – silencing the fire from inside.

As the prospect of reinforcement dwindled just as rapidly as Imperial numbers did, the call went out to retreat.

Only seven men were left alive, the two wounded men relying on their comrades to carry them back towards safety. They were all concentrated on one side of the mountain and formed a loose group hurrying back towards the nearest tunnel door.

The last man occasionally turned to deliver several lines of covering fire – but it seemed the enemy had decided not to pursue. So, the tiny group concentrated on running towards the growing strip of light revealed by the thick door sliding open.

Then two powerful blasts were heard, shotguns. The Borman units at the back fell to the ground, the wounded man atop the second one toppling off. He managed to spray the enemy soldiers who’d seemingly appeared out of nowhere before they ended the lives of he and his two comrades.

A burst from an XM8 dropped another Imperial to his knees, his BEWD clutched in his hands. He watched the other two soldiers carrying the wounded man in between them into the opening and several logistical men firing pistols from behind the cover of the opening. They motioned for him to come, but he slowly shook his head from side-to-side as a stream of bullets sent his left side lurching forward.

He used the momentum to roll to the ground, exposing the growing hoard of rebels charging at him. He pulled the second trigger on his weapon, sending several grenades rocketing into them, propelling bodies upwards and into the air.

As the might door slid closed, the artificial light dwindled on that hero, lying there draining his magazines into the coming enemies as bullets continued to rattle his body.

The men inside the hatch were spared seeing him die, all they saw was his heroism.

"Marines! Go, go go!" The Anemonian Marines rushed down the staircase, carbines held tightly in their hands. The tense air could almost be smelt, and as clattering resounded through the first level of the Nimitz-class carrier, various crewmen sat longing about on eck, watching the Marines train yet again.

There was a burst of blank-fire, and a group of Marines playing the 'hostiles' were brought out. They were 'dead', and they walked off to one side of the deck, laughing with each other. And admiral turned to his adjutant and murmured "We need something to do, goddammit! When are they going to pull us out of here?"

Captain Richardson stood on the bridge of the Republic Destroyer Liberty. They were in position, and he had just been informed that the Ambassador was on his way.

"To the rebel and Borman Empire delegations, we are in position and awaiting your arrival."

The Captain took a deep breath and prepared to send out the next transmission.

"To all foreign military forces in the area: the Republic is hosting a conference between the conflicting parties, in an effort to achieve a diplomatic solution. We ask that all foreign forces refrain from taking any action that might aggrevate the situation or lead to armed conflict. While it is the Republic's purpose to achieve a peaceful solution, any military action directed to or directly threatening Republic forces will be treated as an act of war. Elements of the Republic Second Fleet are standing by in International Waters to intervene if nessissary."

The transmission ended and the Captain left the bridge, making the rounds and ensuring everything was ready for the conference. Their was an atmosphere of simmering tension on board, as Radar and Sonar constantly swept the vicinity, gunners manned their stations, and marines lined the deck railings. Finally, the bridge called to inform him that the Ambassador's helicopter was arriving. Taking a deep breath and straightening his uniform, Captain Richardson rose and headed to the helicopter pad at the stern of the ship.

"Alright, show time."

New Masada, Capital of Kahanistan

Fahad ibn Mohammed al-Misri finished his daily strength training, setting down the 50-kilo dumbbells he was curling. With beads of sweat still flowing down his bare, heavily tattooed chest, the 185-centimetre, 120-kilogram Kahanistanian mercenary, a decorated veteran of the Doomani wars, picked up his cell phone and called a Kylesvakian contact, a colonel whose name he'd come up with after a Google search the night before.

"Yeah, man... assalaam alaikum. Well, I've been hearing you guys are in a bit of a fix. Doubt the spineless liberals in my government would send troops, but I figure you can use a guy with 53 confirmed Doomie kills in three wars. Those Borman guys have been fucking you over hard core... if we didn't have governments, we'd all be living in peace with one another. I could use some more trigger time, so I'll hire out for cheap. Let's say... standard pay for a private?"

He waited for the Kylesvakian officer to reply. He really hoped to get back in the saddle now that things were quieting down at home, with his government no longer willing to go out and fight.

As the helicopter blades slowed to a crawl, the armored doors slid open and several armed men came out. They stood upright, clutching their weapons as Chancellor Licinius himself strode out of the helicopter. Tipping his hat to the Romulan ambassador in the distance, Licinius began a brisk walk towards the man, his guards flanking around him. Licinius rarely left the nation anymore, usually entrusting lower diplomats to take care of diplomatic missions. His mere presence here was a sign of The Empire’s commitment to resolving this.

The first chopper sent gusts of air billowing out as it took off and returned towards the Borman vessel, clearing the way for the smaller Imperial helicopter. The Empire had sent down one of their helicopters to pick up the ambassador’s delegation and his men, as a sign of good faith. Roughly half the diplomatic group was aboard, protected by the four guards they’d insisted came with them. The helicopter would return to retrieve the rest of the group.

While the Imperial helicopter was landing with a dull thud, Licinius was greeting the Romulan ambassador with a beaming smile.

“Nice to meet you, my name is Markus Licinius, how’re you doing today? My nation is very grateful for your commitment in this matter, and will not forget your resolve to achieve a bloodless outcome.”

As the two men shook hands, Licinius’ guards formed a loose line between them and the helicopter, ever wary of whatever may come.

----------------------------------------

Inside the helicopter, Markus turned towards Mr. Bakunin, “Stay inside for a minute – I don’t trust these Imperials, let us make sure it’s clear.”

“Thank you for your excellent service. And, don’t worry – I wouldn’t trust them either.”

The two men laughed before sliding the door open a little bit, allowing the loud sounds of the rotor to grow even more powerful as the four guards slipped out.

Two of them fanned off to each side, sweaty hands clutching their XM8s. It was a standard protection pattern – distant from the helicopter – but standard, none the less. Everyone aboard expected the helicopter door to open and the Kylesvakian delegation to unload, but it didn’t.

A huge explosion shook the destroyer, as the helicopter exploded in a gulf of flames. The explosion was timed perfectly to coincide with the explosion of the speedboat that they Kylesvakian delegation had come in. It was obvious that an obscene amount of explosives was used in the latter, the size of the explosion leaving no question.

A fraction of a second after the explosions, the men who’d just unloaded from the helicopter dropped to their knees – opening fire on Licinius and his men.

Several of the Chancellor’s bodyguards fell to the surprise attack, but several more cautious ones had managed to get him on the floor – avoiding bullets slicing through his body.

The Imperial units immediately responded with heavy gunfire, leaving nothing but bloody piles of the four men – exploding ammunition ensuring that.

Borman soldiers lay dead all over the destroyer, the explosion killing most of them. Aboard their battleship, however, the casualties were even greater.

The speedboat had been anchored right next to the Imperial vessel, apparently for a specific purpose. The explosion had several damaged the hull of the vessel, water slowly creeping through the few holes. However, the surprise and shock wave of the attack had caught the sailors by surprise. Numerous had been thrown overboard, some into the flaming, sinking wreck. Many had fallen to the deck, sporting a variety of injuries.

As sailors scurried along the deck of the battleship, Imperial units surrounded the Chancellor – guns held tightly.

“Sir, HALO just gave us confirmation – we have enemy aircraft inside of our airspace.”

“Type? Origin?”

“Unconfirmed as of yet, but we know it came from the Anemos Major fleet outside our waters.”

“And have you already scrambled interceptors?”

“Yes sir, two FIA-69 Nikolais are already in the air. Ground SAM sites have also locked on.”

The monitor quickly began flashing and scrolling, the new information coming to the forefront.

“UAV, Sir.”

“Take it down.”

--------------------------------------

“Roger that, ground control – UAV in sight, approaching the strait.”

The two aircraft rocketed towards the UAV, leaving all active stealth features inactive, as ordered. In truth, the FIA’s would be extremely difficult to detect due to the very nature of the aircraft’s design – a visual confirmation would be needed to affirm their existence.

If the UAV had onboard cameras, as Imperial Air Command suspected, it would be able to detect the aircraft approaching it.

The two planes had long had the UAV locked on, now they just rolled around in the air, screwing around so as to ensure the UAV’s cameras would see them. Then, without warning, they straightened out and their undercarriages lowered from the main bay. The Nikolai’s design would prevent even RADAR from detecting this change – designed to do just that. But the distance of the two planes from their target would leave no need for confirmation of existence.

Electromagnetic coils had been heating up, and compressed air shot two short range air-to-air missiles from each fighter, their engines kicking in and sending them shooting towards the UAV at mach six.

The two planes pulled up, heading back towards their airbase.

---------------------------------------

Back at the defense center, another technician motioned a superior officer over.

“Sir, it seems that soon after launching their UAV, the Anemos fleet entered our territorial waters – they’re about 650 nautical miles off of our coast.”

“Orders are clear – the warning shot will cost lives, the second a fleet. Commence protocol 2 – 0 9er.”

“Understood sir.”

-----------------------------------

Ten FIA-69s shot into the air, approaching mach 4 as their fire control systems locked onto the forward aircraft carrier in the Anemos Major fleet. Satellite data constantly poured in, aided by an obscene amount of RADAR, SONAR, FLIR, and more – allowing the pilots to pinpoint the aircraft carrier’s location.

As the Nikolai’s reached 600 miles from their target, they each fired off six of the Empire’s most trusted anti-shipping missiles. Following their launch, the planes pulled upwards, returning to base.

The sixty missiles formed a loose wall of death, their air-breathing ramjet engines carrying them forward at mach 3. When the missiles were eighty miles within the Annemos fleet, they would release the missile stage, dropping them into the water – now torpedoes. Using passive SONAR as the chief agent of their ELINT based guiding system, they would accelerate towards the carrier. Within a fraction of a second, their supercavitating engine would accelerate them to a velocity of 300 knots.

While these missiles were soon to be phased out, they’d never failed to sink a ship. It was hoped that only the aircraft carrier would go down, but realistically – several escorts would probably sink with it.

Wait, massive misunderstanding much?

My fleet is still in international waters; we're CLOSER to your border but not within them. The Pioneer UAV is being readied for launch, but it hasn't been launched yet. There may be clearance to launch a Global Hawk, but the only person able to allow that is either the CiC of the 45th or the Council.

Secondly, not a single plane has been launched.

If you attack my fleet now, you'll have done so for no apparent reason. As of this moment, I have not stated that I have anything within your borders, making this an unprovoked declaration of war. There's a reason Strategic Arms Command attaches a pair of Typhoon SSBNs to every expeditionary fleet, and this time they are armed with nuclear weapons. Godmodding is not a good idea, especially if your opponent has nukes.

The aide threw open the door to the small meeting room. Bhalk and the smattering of military officers seated around him looked up at the wild-eyed boy.

He ran towards Bhalk, stopping to bow before handing him a manila envelope, stamped as “CLASSIFIED.”

“Sir, it appears the Kylesvakians just attempted to assassinate chancellor Licinius. Their explosive laden boat has damaged our battleship and left many people dead.”

Bowing once more, the aid briskly walked out, closing the door behind him.

Bhalk flipped through the folder, reading aloud “Imperial helicopter kindly gave Kylesvakian delegation transportation, Kylesvakian guards opened fire on Licinius and his men, helicopter exploded along with Kylesvakian boat, et cetera, et cetera.”

Bhalk allowed a wry smile to cross his face before he nodded his head down, ever so slightly.

“Excellent work gentlemen, Markus did his job quite well it appears.”

Several of the officers smiled and nodded their heads, accepting thanks for their work. One of them, General Lipidous, commander of the fifth army, broke the round of congratulations. “Sir, shall we commence with the second phase of the operation? My army is already in place and ready to move. The two other armies are only an hour or so from the border.”

“Of course, send in all forces.”

“Will do, Sir.”

--------------------------------------

“Roger that control, commencing bombardment.”

Across the entire border, howitzers and permanent artillery emplacements opened fire, sending thousands of exploding rounds crashing down onto the rebel forces and the mercenaries who were bolstering their numbers.

This deadly rain continued for many minutes, destroying most of the anti-air equipment that the rebels hadn’t managed to fortify during the beginning of the bombardment. With these defenses down, FIA-69’s flew over the enemy lines – dropping an insane amount of ordinance and constantly firing off air-to-ground missiles and their automatic cannons.

This heavy attack was aimed at destroying the remaining anti-air defenses, RADAR installations, and any more ELINT sites.

As the fighters pulled out the howitzers roared to life once more, constantly shelling the entire line. But they quickly stopped, allowing the B9D heavy bombers to come in, who shelled the rebel line with cluster munitions and heavily exploding ordinance.

As charred earth mingled with scattered fire, the bombers pulled away – clearing a path for the ground forces.

It wasn’t known how many of the rebel forces had been destroyed, nor was it really cared. Imperial forces had confidence in their ability as Fazzone IFVs and Sigma MBTs rolled forward, shelling the fortified line with their massive cannons and constantly sweeping back and forth with their chain guns.

As they continued to roll forward, their mighty guns blew entire earthwork defenses into the air and sent concrete constructions crumbling down. The entire line was hardly broken apart, but the Imperial vehicles were blasting open holes large enough to allow themselves to pull through.

Were they able to cross this line without significant casualties, it would be next to impossible to stop them.

But on the other side of those defenses, that’s exactly what the Kylesvakians were trying to do. Unaware of the developments on the Romulan vessel, the defenders were caught completely off-guard by the shelling. They were quick to drop inside of their trenches, foxholes, pillboxes, and behind reinforced fortifications to shield themselves – but they were not strong enough. Most of the defenses were shoddily or quickly made, hardly able to withstand the bombing.

Bodies were flying everywhere as a river of red started to pool at the bottom of trenches. Casualties continued to climb as men were starting to consider abandoning their posts. Then the shells stopped.

“Enemy tanks on the –“ The man exploded in a ball of flame as the wreck of his bulkhead went flying backward.

Charlie Tatanovich cupped his hands to his mouth – screaming at the mercenary commander nearby. “WE N==D == =OP TH==R ==NKS!”

Knowing full well the man probably didn’t hear him under the deafening roar of machine guns, he decided to show him what he meant. He vigorously pointed towards himself before grabbing a TOW missile tube, Imperial Anti-Tank Guided Missile resting inside.

Tatanovich popped above the fortified wall that had been sheltering him from enemy fire. He aimed at one of the forward IFVs before pulling his trigger and dropping down behind the fortifications, bullets grazing where he’d been only seconds ago. A dull thud matched the sound of an explosion, but Charlie knew something was wrong.

He’d already reloaded his tube, and now he waved at the mercenary commander, telling him to follow him. They two moved down a foot or so before Charlie popped up and locked aim onto the same IFV. Their exploding armor had clearly saved them, flaming wreckage lying next to them.

Charlie pulled his trigger once more before dropping down, to hear a huge explosion and the sound of shooting shrapnel.

Charlie smiled and nodded at the mercenary commander. There was no way he didn’t understand what was going on now.

Rebels were popping up in teams of two, targeting as close to the same spot as they could on a vehicle, and firing in rapid succession. They were hoping to stop the vehicles dead in their tracks, which they did sometimes. But sometimes, the men just exploded in torrents of blood and bone.
