Draftroom Recruitment Thread

Greetings #NS-er,

You are formally invited to join the Nationstates Draftroom ™, the elite club of International Incidents. The Nationstates Draftroom is an organisation that exists to better RP, improve designs and bring Roleplayers closer together. The Draftroom exists as a Webforum, IRC Channel, but most importantly, it exists as a state of mind and being. You either are Draftroom, or you aren’t.

Join Draftroom, Join Nationstates as it was meant to exist.

Anyway, here’s the crack: the NS Draftroom is where anyone with half a braincell goes to design their guns, planes, tanks, ships (etc), talk about weapons, technology and, as well, general RP’s. As well as the forum the NS Draftroom has also lent its name to the famous “#draftroom” IRC channel that has, consistently, been ranked in the top 5 most active channels on the Espernet server. Although not, strictly ‘design’ orientated (indeed, the draftroom strives to be an active room for all discussion topics, both RR IC, Designing and random OOC), the #d Community is a varied bunch and has spawned a whole host of other sub communities, including the more designed focused #nsarms and many other more humorous rooms.

The Community, is old, with members stretching back to 2003 and despite various myths, is welcoming to newcomers. Although I’m not affiliated with either the creator of the original site, the current runner, the IRC channel or anything else, I was looking at II and realised I hadn’t seen the recruitment thread bumped in a while, so I decided to make my own.

The IRC channel is the easiest way to talk to people, and if you need to use IRC, there are several places you can get a free client:

*Pidgin (it's what I use) http://www.pidgin.im/

*Trillian (v.intuitive) http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

*Firefox has a client designed as an addon, I think it's called Chatzilla

Most of them are simple to install, and if you need help, there’s a thread created a long time ago by one of the mods about how to get online to IRC:

For and on behalf of the draftroom community,

Northford

We also have our own school of economics, called the Catalanofascist School of Economics:

Recessions = lack of #d
Booms = plenty of #d

I have three things to say: Underwater carriers (http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll31/DemonLordRazgriz/Underwater_aircraft_carrier_by_Voug.jpg?t=1240454470), Floating ICBM bases (http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs43/i/2009/066/8/a/Omen_class_dreadnought_by_VoughtVindicator.jpg), bear cavalry (http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/3091/fbearcavalrym821d6a1kd8.jpg).

All of those, minus the last one - which is pure epic -, have been shot down at the NSD.

I think he means that because the draftroom does not follow the rule of cool, it is not fun.

Sutufinai General: O yah? I'mma develop vertical sub-launched aircraft out of old SSBNs. -submerged- launched... Oyah, I'm just that awesome...

Sutufinai Researcher: That may hold water, if we actually could fly aircraft.

Sutufinai General: Oh, good point... Oh well! Onto the Tank catapults!

I'm not forcing anybody to use or accept the tesla plane (http://i41.tinypic.com/sni5c5.jpg), but it certainly find the NSD being a little bit aggressive (if not to say invasive) when it comes to barging in and nitpicking. I thought that it would take more than a half a braincell to notice some people actually likes to have some degree of fantasy in their RPing while not making it completely dragons vs. pirate ninjas.

(and no, I don't use the tesla plane in NS. You get my point)

o.o I'd totally use the Tesla Plane if my faction could use aircraft. o.o

I do like some fantasy in my RPing. That's why I am involved with FT. Just keep it out of MT.

What about PMT?
Birkaine
23-04-2009, 04:06
Then what else it is? It's too early to be PMT, and far from FT. so what? PPMT? Not a lot of RPs to get into.

Not like any MT users have complained anyways.

Well, the entire point of the NSD is to provide commentary on the realism of the design. If you know your design is unrealistic and you don't want to fix it, then you don't have to post it on NSD. Otherwise, there would be no point to post on NSD. NSD is not for advertisment!

(and no, I don't use the tesla plane in NS. You get my point)

You don't have a very good point.

Actually, I didn't post my design in the NSD (take a guess at why), and I got the commentary on the realism anyways.

You did that just as much as you did read the 'PMT' tag, it seems.

If pressure crushes it because its shape and internal constuction are weak as hell, "lol i iz pmt, so gtfo" doesn't fix it.

As far as I remember, you said just a few comments above that it wasn't MT, and now it seems PMT doesn't fit either. So what is it, is it a pariah or something?

And by the fact we were selling the SSV, you should have known we're meant for a small niche audience, not to swallow up NS...

I have four things to say: MT Leman Russ (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=5489), Non-humanoid Tracked Mecha (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=3816), Rubik's Cube Bomb (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=3827) and Erkanoplans(too many epic examples to link individually)

If you post anything on the forums expect to get it ciriticised for being unrealistic and not just by people who frequent the NSD. Of course the easiest way to avoid this is to place a statement of the fact you acknowledge the lack of realism but are choosing to play the rule of cool card.

Generally on the draftroom we do try to be a bit more constructive and give advice on how to fix things and will often disagree on a number of issues.

I'd be laughed out of the draftroom if I joined. My faction uses steam everything. It doesn't use aircraft. And it mainly uses beasts of burden that are rather giant wolves. =D take that realism! =D

No, we're not steampunk. I don't have steam powered tanks (But I have designed a few, as well as -steam powered starships-. For a different game of course.) or any steam powered vehicles past steam locomotives. Which is why we have giant wolves as beasts of burden. Because I'm too cool for horses.

NSD and subsequently #d is the Nationstates equivalent to combining peanut butter and chocolate, which is so epic it has drive people to commit homicide (http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=b0905c1d7d703131b0e980fd21bc06a9).
