"Thank you, Mr. Derkins, that will be all" (Open, ATTN IFA))

Generalissimo Andrew Filie's recent Executive Order #229 had made many people happy.

James Derkins was not one of them.

The Head of Internal Security (and Chief of the State Special Police, or SSP) was quite indignant about it, as a matter of fact. The staunch Fascist found the idea of welcoming leftists back into the Federation repulsive. So, he decided to have a little chat with the new leader.

OOC: More in a little bit. I'll be back. No responses yet.

Filie looked at Derkins, managing to do a very good job concealing his usual distaste.

Filie utterly loathed fascism. It was repressive, was rarely good for 'the people', that amorphous mass of regular, 'average joes' that Grimmeberger himself, and Filie's family, had hailed from, and tended to piss people off, usually resulting in the premature termination of the regime. In short, the only good thing either Grimmeberger, or his successor, Filie, had ever seen in fascism was the fact that many of its followers were meticulous record keepers, a useful trait in any beauracracy, and tended to carry out any necessary repression (which was, regretfully, sometimes necessary) with an enthusiasm (and disturbing glee) found in few others.

So, in short, Derkins disgusted Filie (and Grimmeberger) and they often had to content themselves with the thought that "At least the bastard is useful." Although, based on what Derkins was now saying to Filie, and Filie alone (General-Secretary of State Grimmeberger was away on business, tending to the affairs of the American-half of the Federation), he was fast coming to the end of usefulness and to the early stages of "major problem"-ness.

"Mister Filie," Derkins began condescendingly. "I am deeply concerned, as are my compatriots at the SSP, that your descision to forgive these Reds for their crimes is highly misguided."

"I'm sorry?" Filie 'asked' angrily. "I think I misheard you. I didn't hear 'Mister Filie,' did I?" Calling the Generalissimo 'Mister' was highly disrespectful. "Furthermore, most of these Reds are not guilty of any crime, except, in your eyes, of being Reds. However, I must point out that that is not a recognized crime in the Federation, is it?"

"You could make it one--" Derkins protested angrily.

"But why would I? Its, frankly, a waste of money to keep persecuting them, and they are far more useful than you would have me believe. I don't agree with them, but all the same, they still have skills that can be used, just as yours have been, and hopefully, will continue to be."

"I refuse to work with a bunch of Pinkos!"

"Then you don't have to. Give me your badge. I expect your letter of resignation within the hour."

Derkins sputtered furiously. "WHAT?! You have no idea--"

"Thank you, Mr. Derkins," Filie said, addressing Derkins as a civilian. "That will be all."

As Derkins stormed out, he said, "I think you can expect the resignation of the SSP as well!" he growled.

And then it hit Filie. Part of the reason that Grimmeberger had kept Derkins was that he was scared of him, to an extent. Most of the SSP were staunch fascists, loyal to Derkins. If Derkins decided to form a paramilitary force with the SSP, there would be few (with a large part of the military on-duty, on-deployment) who could stop him from seizing power, especially with the resources of the SSP.

"Oh shit!" Filie muttered, angry at himself.

Well aware that the SSP could duck behind fake charges to legitimize "arresting" him, (and then deny that his exchange with Derkins ever occured), Filie decided to move quickly, knowing that Derkins would most likely respond with something other than a resignation.

So, to pre-empt that, Filie issued the following directive and took the plunge into what could very well turn into a total purge of fascist elements from the government.

Executive Order #231

By Order of the Generalissimo of the Fanboyist Federation of North Atlantic Territories

Due to the threat presented to the people and legitimate government posed by the State Special Police (henceforth referred to as SSP) and its director, James Derkins, all officers of the SSP are hereby removed from office and/or position. Arrest warrents are hereby issued for James Derkins, Quintus Gregor, Charles Milson, and Peter Drake, as well as all other officers of the SSP with a former rank or position above Sergeant or AP-3.

Furthermore, the SSP is hereby dissolved as an official Service of the Federal Government, and all arrests, warrants, and such are to be invalidated.

The Order was issued ASAP to Field Marshal Erik Hohenzorn. Attached to his copy was a hand-scrawled note from Filie, reading "It would be best if you moved quickly. From, Andrew."

(OOC: like all standard Executive Orders, foreign governments may see this, so responses are now welcome.)

The XO was on the desk of Prime Minister Caithana within the hour. "This could get big fast," he remarked to his aide. "Get me Lt. Col. Andrews on the line, stat." Andrews was in charge of the small Telviran air contingent that had been deployed to help the Fanboyists fight the communist uprising. If a civil war broke out, he would need to be ready. Caithana remembered the short-lived Royal Guard uprising back in '78. If that was any indicator of what could happen, he would need to send some heavier firepower to guard those planes.

Official Communique

From Prime Minister Edward Caithana
With your recent Executive Order, I fear that an uprising by your SSP is imminent. To prevent the seizure of our aircraft stationed in your nation, I am dispatching a unit of the Royal Air Corps Infantry Corps to guard the airbases. Be aware that we will support your government in the event of an uprising.

In the air were several C-130s carrying the men of the Infantry Corps. Dedicated to the defense of Telviran airfields and planes, they had the firepower to make sure that if the SSP moved on the airfields, they could repel them. And the support of the actual aircraft based in the Federation was almost guaranteed.

ORBAT
(This is what is deployed at each airfield)
300 troops
10 Interim Fast Attack Vehicles (IFAVs)
10 M117 Armored Security Vehicles
15 Humvees
-5 with .50cal machine guns
-5 with Mk19 grenade laucnhers
-5 with TOW missile launchers

Today, a shootout developed between the 1st Irregular Infantry and the 777th Infantry Batallion (Lucky 7's)(1st Shock Infantry Division) with resistant SSP officers, who were removed from their jobs earlier yesterday by Executive Order #331. The shootout developed on Boulevard of the Heroes, where a column of the resistant officers, now belived to have taken up the role of paramilitaries against the government, were marching along towards the Presidential Palace, when detachments of the 1st Grey Coats and 777th Batallion opened fire.

It is believed that 14 SSPs have been killed thus far, with an additional 23 wounded. Three Federal Infantry were killed, with 11 wounded, and one Grey Coat was killed, while an additional four were wounded.

To Prime Minister Edward Caithana

Thank you for your warning. It did not fall on deaf ears. However, I already issued the order to Field Marshal Erik Hohenzorn, a trusted officer in the Federal Army, and he has already moved an infantry division to help hold the capital against any operations by the SSP against the government. Provincial commanders are being given similar orders.

A firefight has already developed in the capital between Federal troops and rouge SSP agents resisting arrest.

Thank you. I hope you will remain in contact with us for the duration of the crisis.

We will of course maintain contact. If you require additional air support, we have a squadron of A-20 Razorback attack aircraft and a squadron of B-1B Lancer bombers that can be deployed in minutes.

Meanwhile
Razor Base was the airfield where the Telviran aircraft were based. With the additional guards, it had been turned into a fortress. Or at least an imitation of one. Heavy machine guns, grenade machine guns, and missile launchers were emplaced on the perimeter, along with barbed wire and large dirt berms. The aircraft were at battle-readiness, prepared to scramble at any moment against the SSP.

Luckily for the Telvirans, at this point, the SSP didn't particularly care about foreign allies. They were a bit more focused on "that damned leftist" that was in charge of the country.

Unfortunately for the Federal forces, Derkins had spent the two days since he had been fired turning the SSP HQ into a fortress as well. Detachments of the 777th had already been beaten off twice by mortar and machine-gun fire ("Where the hell did they get that shit?! They're supposed to just be police!" Hohenzorn had exclaimed).

Meanwhile, the SSP column that had headed towards the government offices was seriously getting its ass kicked. Grey Coats, in spite of the fact that they were often issued singularly shitty equipment, were very good at that. So, renegade law enforcement agents who had appropriated equipment from God-knows-where were being dropped like flies by semi-militia armed with stuff that was out-of-date thirty years ago. All the same, the 7.62 cartrige on the Grey Coat's FN M1949's took people easily enough. So did the frag grenades, which were up to date. Of the 300 men in the column, there were only 120 at this point who were not casualties on some level. The fact that the ones who left shelter or cover tended to get taken down by Federal Infantry as well probably didn't help their odds.

Of course, Filie sent a reply to Telvira, ASAP.

OOC: There most certainly is not that much confusion. The fascists, like everyone else in power, are rabid nationalists and would happily call a cease-fire so they could kill your soldiers first. If anything, you'd help minimize the infighting. Its called a nationalist dictatorship for a reason. A lot of the more radicals, including the fascists, actually are better described as "xenophobic." They would happily abandon infighting to kill foreign invaders.

The leader of the rouge SSP column on Boulevard of the Heroes, Brigadier Colin Hensley, has surrendered to Federal Infantry Forces. Of course, he agreed to terms guarenteeing the rogue agents' freedom and full immunity to prosecution.

Of course, as this is being treated as a rebellion, Field Marshal Erik Hohenzorn unrepentently disregarded those terms, and promptly placed the entire column under arrest on charges of treason. It is expected that most will be pardoned, with the exception of the officers.

Hohenzorn's official explanation for his actions was "Well, really, if you're going to be a treasonous *expletive*, you really should expect this sort of thing. Outraged at arrest my ass. You deserve it if you're that much of an *expletive* to threaten your own *expletive* country."

Total Casualties Reported at this time:

Anti-Government Forces: 68 dead, 149 wounded, 232 captured (including wounded)

Federal Infantry: 11 dead, 72 wounded

Grey Coat Auxiliary Forces: 9 dead, 43 wounded

The alleged mastermind of the recent SSP anti-government activity, James Derkins, remains at large.

Generalissimo Andrew Filie gave a speech regarding the recent crisis today in Victory Square, Vienna.

In his speech, he exhorted the rogue SSP to lay down its arms and speak to the government, a request which was, a few minutes later, flatly rejected. Filie went on to discuss the need for unity in the nation against another internal thread (also stressing the need to eastern commanders to finish mopping up the remains of the RBPA forces holed up in the Crimea) and promised that the Federal Armed Forces would protect the people of the Federation.

In his speech, Filie also ordered the SSP to "give [the rebellion] up" on the grounds that "The Army is totally kicking [their] ass," and that, if he were a gambling man, he would "put IB$400 that you all will be toast within a month."

Many pundits were aghast at the Generalissimo's choice of words, as they were decidedly casual and informal, quite unbecoming of a national leader in a nationally televised and reported speech.

"General" Marshal Andrews was utterly confident that the storming of the palace would succeed. Completely confident. He and 3,000 others were marching powerfully towards it now. Nothing could stop them. The Generalissimo's precious infantry were miles away, on a wild goose chase for Fascists outside of Vienna. Nowhere to be found when the real threat struck.

Carrying the fascists rallying flag, Andrews charged foward, shouting at the top of his lungs: "Good people of the Federation, march to your rightful beat!" as a drummer struck up a martial beat. Except he couldn't hear it. Not that Andrews would ever hear anything again.

Because Major Warner Kurtzman, tank commander and leader of 7th Battalion, Panzer Division 44 "Belisarius" had just blown his motherfucking head off with the machinegun mounted on his tank. Normally, taking tanks into an urban combat environment was utter suicide. But the luckily, thus far, the Fascists had been horribly uninspired with their tactics, so the risk was worth it. Because few things argue with a 140mm cannon terribly well.

Obviously, during a crisis, Generalissimo Filie would never be so stupid as to leave the capital undefended. So the Elite 44th "Belisarius" was laying in wait. And what the tanks couldn't do, the murderous panzergrenadiers could. So, the throng of fascist rebels found themselves facing down a tank company and a battalion of panzergrenadiers. Not fun. And it wasn't fun for the next half hour as they, again, got their sorry asses kicked by the Federal Army. Things weren't shaping up so well for them after all, now, were they?

Three Antonov 225s flew in a triangle, surrounded by nine F-23s piloted by pilots granted "Elite" status by the Air Force.

Inside, a Regiment (2,000) of Special Tactics Force Agents waited quietly. In the same planes were munitions, missiles, weapons, and occasionally a dirty (Bio-Chemical) weapon. The F-23s were waiting for any hostile RADAR, for if it arrived, an anti-radiation missile was primed and ready for killing it.

An encrypted message was sent to the Fascists, stating the Order's support. It also asked for an airport to land at, and if one wasn't available, for the Fascists to make one available for landing. It also stated the cargo as "S.T.F. Agents and munitions."

Former Head of Internal Security James Derkins read the Communique from the GWO with delight. He had long admired the Fascist Federation's pristine, efficient nation. It was what he had long wished for the Federation, though at the moment, it seemed his dream was not likely to come to fruition. After all, that damned Major Kurtzmann was pounding on his HQ with all the might of the (well-equipped) Panzer Division 44 "Belisarius." After his troops attempting to storm the government buildings had been more-or-less owned by the 44th, he had pulled back his remaining men in the capital in an attempt to prepare an evacuation. One that had, until now, been more or less cut-off and unlikely to succeed. But with the regiment of STF's on the way now, he might have a chance at success. Already, his men had siezed Paris, Constantinople, Cairo, and Carthage. New York was likely to fall under his sway soon, as was Cincinnati and Atlanta. Paris' airport was available.

"Send back the coordinates for Richard Giles Memorial Airport," he ordered his nearby lackey.

He grinned nastily. He might have a shot at success now.

Unfortunately, the Stoklo-GWO War involvement (for the Federation) had ended at the worst possible time, bringing home the most Fascistic Field Marshal in the Federal Armed Forces, with an army of the most Fascist of the soldiers in the FAF.

And of course, Filie, from his secured (and hidden) bunker in Vienna was reading the report that Field Marshal Robert Lee Wheeler had just returned home from the Oil Province, and had opted to throw in with Derkins.

Unfortunately, so had the Oil Province Expeditionary Force.

JUST FUCKING PEACHY!!! Filie thought angrily. Fucker can't side with his proper government! He glared at Grimmeberger, who was standing at the same conference.

"Damn you for not appointing spineless generals."

"I should have figured. Guess what? You're down two Field Marshals now, seeing as Hohenzorn isn't in any position to do much besides secure Austro-Bavaria. So you need two in the field, also seeing as Neniven is off in the Crimea crushing the RBPA."

"Don't remind me. And its not like we've had any sparkling FM-material recently. Erik's already been promoted, Stanley is off, and so far that leaves..." he paused, deep in thought. "Get General Von Bayern. Tell him he's got a new job. That takes care of one, but I still need..." he glanced at Grimmeberger, then looked away. "No, that will never work... Still, can't leave Wheeler holed up in the Carolinas..." he looked back at Grimmeberger, more intensely this time.

"What?!" Grimmeberger asked, unnerved.

********

Three Days Later...

Steven glared out the plane's window. The small private jet was reserved for shuttling military leaders between the Federation's continents.

The recently reinstated Field Marshal Steven Phillip Grimmeberger glared at the report. Wheeler's face smiled up at him. He put it away. He knew his job. Resecure his home and its surroundings from the rogue field marshal. But that wasn't what had put him in such an ornery mood.

"Fuck you, Andrew," he muttered to no one in particular. "I was just starting to enjoy my goddamn retirement."

Field Marshal Wheeler, was, in fact, occupying Inneville (Charleston), as well as all of the Tennessee Valley and most of North Carolina. A 600,000 man force can do that sort of thing. And, with the mutiny of such an army, the little Fascist "revolt" could now be considered a full scale civil war. And especially because Derkins had eluded capture and had joined with his new patron in Inneville.

Even if the avenging angel of reinstated Field Marshal Grimmeberger was on the way. It would be a tough fight.
