President Burkley Declares War!

Written by Roger Banks

Today President Burkley went on the television to make an emergency speech. In the speech Burkley said, "We will not give in to these terrorist groups." Burkley has declared war on terrorism. Much criticism is going into this. Television talk show host, Blake Sherman, said, "President Burkley's actions are absurd and this is not the way to handle these situations, he needs to simply back up and let the world deal with their own problems." This has also gotten a lot of praise, such as this from Jesse Long who is a small town farmer, "This is exactly what we need to do. It will make me sleep well at night to know that my family is safe from the evils of the world." This risky move by the President will be either a complete success or a complete failure.

President Burkley walked down the corridor and into his office. He looked tired and a sense of insecurity went across his face. He sat at his desk and thought long and hard until the phone rang...

To Tucker Island,
From The Metropolitan-Regional Council Of Hydrostera,

Once again we see another nation make the elementary mistake of using conventional means against an unconventional enemy. Terrorists are not a static material object like a rouge nation which can be dealt with forcibly. Terrorism for the sake of a particular goal is merely a concept that is adopted by a variety of individuals, many groups rise up of their own accord and will continue to spawn untill the true issues beind their motivation is dealt with. If you want to deal with terrorism my dear President then I suggest you invest into projects to cultivate understanding and peace between the groups who are motivated to commit these attacks. Better to drain a lake than erect a dam and maintain it.

We see your point but we stand firm when we say that your views will not make the world a better place. Just asking for peace is how people get killed. We will use our technology to find and arrest all these terrorists. We thank you for your concern, but if you are not going to help then step aside and let us do what needs to be done.

A message sent to President Burkely:
"Ah, another fool nation seeking to instil order in chaos? How predictable, we will bring nihilism to your doorstep, and you shall be powerless to stop it. Your people will die, and nothing you do shall change that, after all, Everything Dies."

President Burkley looked at the note that others laughed at. These were sure to come though. President Burkley had sent troops into every nation that was willing and some that were not. He looked out his window and prayed that this was the right decision.

To Tucker Island,
From The Metropolitan-Regional Council Of Hydrosteria,

Rest assured that we never intended to obstruct the goals of your nation whether or not we agree with them. With regard to your intentions however we still maintain the view that declaring war against an enemy abundant in many nations across the world and as divergent in their views with each other as they are with us then we cannot shed ourselves of our doubts regarding how succesful your acheivements will be. After all, technology is a universal thing, and if the nations which these terrorists reside in and attack cannot resist them or track them down then how will a foreign power gain access to these nations and hope to beat these terrorists with even less resouces than the host nation; still, we wish you the best.

While the ASoGM dislikes terrorism as well, we feel that declaring war on terrorism will inevitably lead to frustration, caused by inability to attack a foe that can hide in plain site, in any nation in the world. Therefore, the ASoGM will continue to combat terrorism the same way it has been.
