Civil Unrest in Farenz [PMT Open]

Farenz

Official International News Broadcast from Farenz
Recently a power-hungry political party, calling themselves the Fascist Power Party [FP], has gained a significant amount of power in Farenz's south-western reaches (Sectors 13-19). The group has made their goals quite clear, gain power, dispose of the Constitution, and turn the Grand Duchy into an absolute monarchy. The police are doing their best to keep things under control, but things are looking grim. One wrong move here could result in a civil war. We'll keep you updated on the situation.

Dear Mr. Cameron

While your offer is quite generous, Farenz does not wish to make any military purchases. We are trying to bring these people to justice by the most non-violent means possible. No one has yet been harmed thanks to our police force, and we hope to keep it that way.

Sincerely,
Dmitry Marzell

((OOC: Here is a map of the sectors for future reference. http://wikistates.outwardhosting.com/wiki/Farenz#Subdivisions ))

This just in, members of all levels of the government in Sector 14 have been shot and killed by members of the Fascist Power Party. Party leader, Louis Krakow, has declared Sector 14 the sovereign nation of West Farenz and himself the Grand Duke of said nation. Preparations are being made to retake Sector 14 as we speak.

Terrible news, Sectors 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 have all befallen the same fate as 14 while invasion preparations were being made. Troops are being deployed at the new border by both West and East Farenz. The troops are currently in a standoff, neither side wishing to fire the first shots. Additionally, all internal attempts to overthrow the fascists are being shot down by the police who, as it turns out, are all loyal to the fascists. It is quite obvious that a considerable ammount of planning and deception was involved in this operation.

According to AINN (Anemonian International News Network):

The Holy Empire of Anemos Major's Holy Office of War met earlier today in response to the Facist Power Party's armed take-over of the nation of Farenz. Although no official statement has been made, the previous administration (under High Lord Ilfir Erenthi III) was openly hostile to facists, and political experts are predicting some sort of involvement by the current government, which is made up of many prominent members of the last, including High Lord Ilfir Erenthi III's First Marshal of the Armed Forces, Lord Arkal Therondis, who is currently the High Councilman of Anemos Major.

UPDATE: The Holy Office of War has announced that it will hold a press conference at 3:00, which will be broadcasted live on AINN.

Standing in front of the horde of jounalists, First Marshal Yrenthis began to speak. "Earlier today, the Anemonian Holy Office of Foreign Affairs received information that the government of the nation of Farenz has been replaced by a facist one, probably through armed means. The Holy Empire of Anemos Major respectfully warns the facists who have taken power that under the National Preemptive Attack act, the Holy Office of War is authorised to go to war with you on the grounds that as an aggressive, illegal government, you are a threat to our nation. If all arms are not laid down within forty-eight hours and an unconditional surrender not submitted to our government, then we will have no choice but to commence an invasion." There was a short pause, and the reporters remained silent, stunned. "That will be all." ended Yrenthis, and left the room quickly before any of the reporters could intercept him.

Therondis, sighing, walked alongside Yrenthis as they made their way towards the High Lord's offices. "Well, well. You do realise that you just made a declaration of war, right?" Yrenthis sullenly nodded; it was quite a momentous occassion for him, but he didn't feel joyous at all.

"I know, High Councilman Therondis."

"I understand what it feels like too. Remember, this is for your country. There's nothing to feel guilty about."

"Really? Fighting a war and creating one are two different things, right?"

"Absolutely. But the reason you're doing both is the same, right?"

"... Yes. But I don't know how valid that reason is now."

"This isn't an invasion.Remember, the facist government this time round forcibly took power. If their people are fine with that, we'll pull out."

"Of course."

"I don't think they're going to like this." Lieutenant Breers said, rubbing his chin. Admiral Leyland waited until the twenty-inch cannons on the Unmerciful stopped firing to reply.

"I would think, under the circumstances, that the Farenzi would offer us the same courtesy."

"Courtesy?" the Lieutenant said, making no attempt to mask his incredulity, "blasting half of one of their largest ports piecemeal and launching in Imperial assault teams doesn't exactly sound like something I would consider a courtesy."

"Well, then you clearly haven't been reading up, Breers. These ports haven't been used in months, and even if they were, everything being delivered to the Empire is sent by air. More efficient, since we developed those heavy-lifters and what-have-you. And about the other half, what do we have to worry as far as Farenzi complaint? They're terrorists, at least that's what the official government saying."

"I'm not about to argue with a superior officer, but I hope to high heaven you're right."

Sector 19 was a peaceful place. Thin rows of trees grew next to a few rolling grasslands that cut off into the port. Numbers of small vehicles would go back and forth as people used the ubiquitous piers of the old port to fish in the now less-polluted waters. It was a marvel of Farenzi environmentalism that fish even lived in the water, given the ports hectic and industrial history. Pieces of that history could be seen in the smoke stacks that jutted every now and again, seemingly at odds with the natural beauty that surrounded them. It was beautiful, until the coup began.

Where once verdant grass grew, now only the dull brown of trenches and the hideous blackened welts of craters showed, as if a madman had been given a classic piece of art and was told to ruin it as best as he could. Corporal Argner waved his hands in clipped battle-sign for his unit to move. The roar of the gunship prevented most any other kind of communication, an unfortunate side-effect of making the ship almost completely silent on the outside. Wearing their specially made dive suits, the soldiers looked almost comical, and had a difficult time moving in the confined quarters of the vectored-thrust aircraft.

Pick targets, deploy in ten Argner waved. As he did this, the tactical displays built into their helmets lit up, showing an eerily greened view of the battlefield. Trenches reclaimed by Imperial assault forces were shown in green, those not were doused in an angry red. The image, made from constantly running satellite images, displayed a number of moving figures just behind the bright glow of weapon discharges. Those were why they were being deployed. Five each member of the ten man unit selected one of the moving blips, and readied themselves for disembarkation. Launch.

As the rear of the gunship opened, the members of the unit could see that they were no more than fifty feet above the rear line of the terrorists. They could see with their own eyes the strobing flash of machine guns pinning down the Imperials on the other side. The Corporal said a silent prayer and dived out towards his target. The rest of the team did the same and leapt out of the ship, directly at their prey.

The stubby-winged suits they wore were not meant for allowing them to float nimbly to the ground, nor were they made for gliding about to provide reconnaissance. No, these suits were built with a more martial aim, one built specifically to induce two things: casualties and terror. As the group fell, they readied their combat knives, positioning their arms so as to not break them in the final landing. Argner gave the signal to his team moments before impact. As one, their previously silent wings let out an ear-splitting shriek, and they roared through their helmets, causing the entrenched Farenzi terrorists to look up, looks of horror on their faces.

Their method of approach was flawless, and the gunship crew, upon seeing the shock troops fall literally on top of the defense line, opened fire with its tri-barreled assault cannon, forcing more of the terrorist trenches to go silent. As return fire began to patter against the armored ship, it slipped away quickly, lest anti-air weaponry ruin an otherwise textbook insertion.

Argner removed his knife from the machine-gunner he landed on. Death was almost instantaneous for him, the knife, along with the landing weight of the trooper, broke his spine almost without noise. That, however, was quick to change as shooting began to erupt around him. Other members of his team were likely mopping up the rest of the trench, and Argner checked his team's status. All but Janzen had landed properly, his suit was reporting in that he had broken his wrist. He winced when he noticed that the report disappeared, and Janzen's heart rate began to climb. Stubborn moron must have broken it back in place, he thought. His thoughts were interrupted when he heard a noise behind him, like a piece of old wood giving way to a new foot.

With expert dexterity, Argner reversed his hold on his knife, ducked low and spun around, slashing with the razor-thin blade. He managed to strike one of the Monarchist terrorists, who was preparing to run him through with an older-looking rifle. It must have jammed, forcing the man to use the bayonet. It was a costly accident, as Argners slice managed to both deflect the unkempt blade, and remove the tips of two of the man's fingers. He yelped in pain, but Argner offered no recourse, barreling into the man knife-first and smashing him into the side of the trench. The knife was nearly put into the hard earth of the trench, but was quickly removed by the Corporal, who looked on his second kill with disdain. They were poorly trained, had even worse equipment and, gauging the look on the gunners face before crashing headlong into him, had about as much morale as a mouse picking a fight with a gang of starving cats.

"Corporal, the trench is ours, the frontline is moving ahead as scheduled. For the Empire." It was Janzen, any hint of pain couldn't be heard. It was likely the adrenaline coursing through him, and Argner knew he'd never hear the end of his squealing in the morning. Better to press on with other things, he thought.

"Indeed, but we still have a number of lines to go before it's safe to send in the Armored Divisions."

"Any brilliant ideas, Corporal?"

"One popped into my head, you might say."

This wasn't what he was fighting for, Creeland thought. He was just trying to bring the rightful King onto his thrown, not sit here in the dead of night, holding off Zakuvians. The last thing he would consider doing is hold off any real army, but that's what his leaders had commanded him to do, so by the King he would. It still unsettled him that he was in Sector 19. Other Sectors had recently been reclaimed by his fellows, and although aid for the traitors was coming from other well-fooled nations, he knew his comrades-in-arms would fend them off until they realized the truth of the Kings rightful rule. Actually, Creeland honestly wished he was anywhere else. He had heard some really unsettling things about these Zakuvians.

The Zakuvians, or so he had heard from old sea-hounds who probably had more ale than they ought to have, were a strange dichotomy of practices. They were a Senatorial government, but were at the same time an Empire. They were at the same time socialist, capitalist, and nationalist, and neither. They were a many number of things, but what troubled him most was what he'd heard about their military. They were very technologically advanced, or so he'd heard. They had jets, and tanks, and guns that put most of what all of Farenz had to shame. At the same time, however, he'd heard that most of their tactics relied on brutality and up-close fighting that had all the hallmarks of sheer barbarism. He shook himself from his fears when the radio chattered up.

"Leader, we've got a problem." Creeland honestly didn't like the title, but since most of the forming Monarchist military was informal, he ran with it.

"This is Leader, what is it?"

"We've lost communications with trench twenty-nine four."

"Is it something to do with their radios?"

"We don't think so sir, all we've been getting is hiss...and other stuff."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, all it was was static, then we started hearing stuff, like screams and the like."

"It's just the Zak's trying scare you, cut off your radios and talk with flash code." Creeland was mentioning the code his team had made that involved flashlights that blended in with the muzzle flash of the other weapons, allowing his men to communicate even without hearing anything.

"We've been trying to reach them for the last ten minutes. Nothing, Leader." This was worrisome. If radio contact was untenable, then flash code was to be used every five minutes. His worries only compounded with the hollow thuk of mortars.

"Get down!" he shouted, daring a glance up when the distinct whistle of the Zak mortar shells was nowhere to be heard. In the air he could see large shapes flying through the air, much too large to be shells. His curiosity was even more peaked when he noticed that they were scattering all across the trench lines, as the Zaks had been going one trench at a time previously. He feared that this was some kind of new weapon, perhaps even chemical or biological. As the first of the strange new projectiles landed, Creeland nearly gagged in disgust.

Heads. The Zaks were tossing the heads of the men they had killed at them with their mortars. Creeland held back his returning lunch, when he was nearly bowled over by the next sound. Bursting out of the radios him and his men had was a cacophony of hellish screams and demonic laughter. He tried turning the sound off, but it was no use. The Zaks must have some kind of transmitter keeping them going without assistance. He threw down his radio and pulled his pistol to shut the thing up for good, when he looked aside and saw something that really got him scared. His men were abandoning their posts.

"Stop that, you cowards, it's just some more Zak scare tactics!" He accentuated his point by aiming his pistol at the nearest fleeing soldier and shooting him in the back, leaving him crumpling to the floor. He was even more disheartened when he saw more men, far out of the reach of his pistol, doing the same. These little tricks alone couldn't be...his thoughts died in his mind. Coming from trench twenty-nine four were a number of tall figures, almost pitch black against the night sky. They were darker than the night itself, and though the glint of their knives they held in their hands gave their positions away easily, it wasn't the easiest tell. What was the most telling was their eyes. Their helmets had an almost fiery red tinge to their eyes, giving them the visage of some ancient demons. What didn't help matters were the heads dangling from their hips on barbed chains. This wasn't just the drunken musing of some washed-out sailor, this was a nightmare made real.

Sporadic shots zinged towards the ten monsters, but were unable to make purchase. As they reached the new no-man's-land between trenches and twenty-nine four and twenty-eight three, the same bestial roar Creeland thought he heard earlier bellowed out from the things stalking towards him. His radio was still adding their ungodly noise to the mix, and his flashlight was probably useless as well. There wasn't any point in trying to fight them this way. Above everything else, he could hear his comrades screaming as well as they made tracks back towards the mainland, far away from these horrors. Creeland decided that that was a more prudent course, and began scrambling up the back of the trench, jibbering incoherently as he did. He didn't make it more than a dozen paces before he heard the roar of footsteps behind him.

Daring to glance behind him, he saw that the ten Zaks who had managed to break his line were now being followed by the rest of the invaders, who were creating a steady roar of battle-crys and footfalls. He had to get out of here and warn his own Leaders. He had to... The bullet ripped through his leg, sending oceans of pain through him. He fell, and saw that most of the people who were running as well were meeting the same fate, if not worse. Heavy, methodical footsteps began to crunch behind him, and Creeland saw one of the black-armored monsters walking near him. He scrambled about, trying to bring his pistol to bear. As he raised the weapon, it was kicked out of his hands, the gun smacking into the ground and discharging harmlessly into the air. He felt even more pain as the trooper's foot smashed down onto his wrist, certainly breaking every bone in it and pinning him like a bug. Creeland went cold as the warrior pulled a large pistol out from the small of his back and aimed it for his head.

"For the Empire." Creeland closed his eyes and screamed when the weapon fired. To his surprise, he was able to open his eyes. Was he dead? Was this heaven? He found out that he was still alive when the Zak's foot shifted, and a searing rod of pain entered his shattered arm. Looking up, through the fog of agony, he saw another one of the gigantic demons, his hand on his would-be executioners wrist. He felt a new surge of discomfort as he began to feel bits of rock and sand embedded in his face. Whoever the other soldier was, he'd deflected the man's shot and forced it to go wide, peppering him with debris. He could overhear them argue.

"Corporal, what is the meaning of this? This man is a traitor to our allies and deserves only death." While the stance of the first was hostile, even through the full masks of their helmets, the other seemed cool and collected.

"Indeed, but we must at least learn something from them before they go. Have this one sent to the Excruciators aboard the Unmerciful, I'm sure they will have a far easier time extracting information from this scum than you will with a bullet." Creeland suddenly wished that the first soldier hadn't missed.

As morning broke over the port of Sector 19, Admiral Leyland breathed in the sea air, a tinge cleaner than the Zakuvian spray he was used to.

"Casualties, Lieutenant?"

"Fourteen men wounded sir, two dead. Counts for the terrorists are only estimations so far, but it's presumed to be around two hundred, captives not included."

"Good so far. Have the Divisions ready to make landing by eight. I want Sector 19 back in Farenzi hands by nightfall. Let the Farenzi know they'll have the full support of the Imperial Navy, and that we'll have our ground forces put the Monarchists into a pincer. It's going to get bloody. For the Empire." Exiting with a crisp salute, the Lieutenant left to relay the message. So, the shock troops were useful. Scary mothers, and that was no mistake, so much so that most of his advisers had warned him not to use them against this militia, lest it score some bad press internationally. Leyland scoffed at the idea, the shock teams were crack siegebreakers, and the Empire was never really big on schmoozing with the media anyway. He walked back inside the Unmerciful, content that the Empire was making headway in bringing peace back to Farenz. Whatever it takes.

OOC: Wonderful. Be advised I have black ops teams on-site at this time, over.

That night...

As silent as the black night enveloping them, ten figures rushed throught the trees , the only sound around them the rushing of the wind. There was a crunch of leaves in front of the group, and what appeared to be the leader raised a gauntleted fist, stopping the group immediately. Cautiously stepping forwards, the leader looked carefully through the bushes.

Catching sight of a heat signature on the HUD in his helmet, he whispered "Five-two, Five-three, take up positions at that bush on the right." His HUD identified the bush in question, and transmitted the details to the troops in question within half a second. "Five-four, Five-five, Five-six, look out for more troops. The rest of you, take up positions against the hill." He looked down at his rifle, and his HUD blinked, identifying the weapon.

The IFAM AR-XSDA2 COMOD. One of the most advanced rifles out there today. There were two variants of the original weapon; one that fired 6.8mm rounds and one that fired caseless. He preferred 6.8mm because the sight of empty metal casings hitting the ground was much more satisfying, but as this was a clandestine operation he held a caseless weapon. Under the barrel of the rifle was a magazine-fed grenade launcher which fired CS gas; again, he preferred HE grenades, but they had no place here. His HUD went even further, identifying his scope (ICO2S), rail system (IFAM Sling Load-bearing system) and suppressor (IFAM Sound Dampener 60 II).

"Five-two, Five-three in position, sir. Requesting permission to neutralise confirmed target."

"Negative. Who is this guy?"

"He looks like Farenzi Police; at least, his uniform says so. He's equipped with a Tavor rifle. No side-arm in sight, although there's a large bulge on the left side of his chest that suggests a revolver. A big one."

"It won't be a problem if he can't take it out. All right, open fire in three seconds. Prepare to deploy shields just in case, ComEng."

"Yes, my Lord."

"Great.... Open fire." He didn't have to say it; Five-two and three were already up and firing. Four shots thudded into the policeman's torso and he was down before a breath could leave him. Falling to the ground, he lay ded and his body was dragged out of the way quickly and quietly, his blood brushed away. "Take his ID and weapons, then incinerate the body behind the rocks back there."

"Yes, my Lord." The troops were about to follow their orders when the hum of an engine came from down the road. Cursing, the leader directed four of his troops to go across the road. The two combat engineers, on opposite sides of the route, deployed shields (unfolding metal ones made of a strong alloy, not the Covenant ones from Halo) and anti-tank weapons. The others took up positions, the unit sniper deploying his anti-material rifle on top of a rock, peering through its sights. Once upon a time, such an action would have been madness, but his weapon was silenced. No-one would know.

As the Advanced Recon team prepared to ambush the group as it neared them, deep inside Sector 19 (OOC: Zakuvia, can I assume your captured soldier is in that convoy? If not, I can just hijack it and hitch a ride using the captured vehicles, but that isn't as interesting), the Anemonian 6th War Fleet, Almighty, cruised towards the coast to support the Zakuvian invasion. At its head was the Hypercarrier Almighty, one of the symbols of Anemonian military dominance of the high seas. Aboard it was a complement of the finest aircraft available, including the Wyvern Air-Superiority Fighter and the Aegis II Ground Attack Fighter. Its escort consisted of more smaller carriers and various other ships, including arsenal ships and the usual group of destroyers and frigates etc. In addition, amphibious landing ships containing the Sixteenth Anemonian Marine Battalion and Eighth Royal Fusiliers of the Kingdom of Mayaqoo made their way towards the coast, with Anemonian Hykar STOVL Multirole Combat Aircraft and Mayaqooi F-35Bs preparing to take off. In addition, the Anemonian 8th Airborne Battalion had been thrown into the fray, waiting to jump from aircraft flying above the main fleet. They were escorted by a group of Krynistyr (Crusader) bombers and long range Threnis interceptors, ready to engage any threats to both the fleet and the airborne. And finally, cargo ships behind the main fleet escorted by nuclear powered attack and ballistic missile submarines carried the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Anemonian 3rd Army Divisions, along with armour and vehicle support. They would land at the nearest port upon its capture.

Watching the aircraft taking off, the commanding officer aboard one of the escort destroyers shook his head in awe. "This..." he said.

"This is war."

Strange aircraft which had the appearance of jeeps with two helicopter blades underneath and a rear propeller and rudder took off from an air port in Port Farenz. There were roughly twenty of them. They flew over Sector 19 and began dropping bombs on the Sector's capital. They were met by similar aircraft from West Farenz and the two sides engaged in aerial combat. Similar battles ensued all across West Farenz. At the border between Sectors 12 and 13 a large battle raged between the West and East Farenzian land forces. The waters of the Sea of Okhotsk saw many naval battles beginning. The weapons in use on all fronts were lasers, something the other countries were as of yet unfamiliar with.

The GWO ships cruised in quickly, their sleek, black and red hulls cutting into the Farenzi water like sea-borne daggers, the angular barrels mounted both on the prow and the aft sections standing like guardians, protecting the vessel that bore them. It was large, much larger than the Unmerciful, who was ill-equipped to handle an actual GWO Warship.

"Can they be serious? The wolves of sedition bay at their gates, and they seek to pick a fight with the Empire?" Admiral Leyland shook his head, an almost comical expression taking over him.

"They're quite serious, sir. Even though most of what they call their government is hiding in a bunker somewhere, the order was issued. The fleet you see at starboard is being spearheaded by the Dominant." The ship's name came as little surprise to the Admiral. With the GOW fleet more or less hamstrung by the fact that they were impotent in combating the insurrection at home, he was sure they relished the thought of actually being able to fight someone. "Tactical states that their main guns will have firing solutions in twenty minutes, Admiral. Your orders?"

It wasn't the way the Admiral wanted things to go but, on a small level, he was intrigued that he would be seeing some real action since the successful landing on Sector 19.

"Lieutenant, how much more displacement does the Dominant have than us?" The officer flipped through a number of statistical reports in his hands.

"At dry dock, it's got at least five thousand tons on us, and you could probably triple or quadruple that with a full war-load." A sliver of a grin washed over the Admiral. He reached over to his desk and brought up a large map, showing the land masses near Sector 19, the Unmerciful, and the GOW fleet, with ten large red blips indicating the vanguard, and a host of smaller blips denoting tenders and supply ships. It wasn't a bad plan, Leyland thought. Wait for Imperial troops to make landing and be well on their way, then send in their own counter-invasion to smash the Zakuvian forces between the anvil of the Farenzi traitors, and the hammer of the GOW assault. It would have worked perfectly, if the GOW were seeing all the cards...and Leyland always enjoyed having a fat hand.

"Have the ship's submersibles set up a small minefield here," he commanded, pointing at a narrow impasse barely wide enough for the massive GOW Warship to pass through. "At the same time, have the ship moved here at full readiness, in case we have to move." He pointed now at a large jut in the ocean, created by the land that would stand between the Unmerciful and the opposing ships' ordnance.

"Very well, sir. I'll have Engineering and Aquatics appraised immediately."

"Good. Send message to the 3rd Fleet, have them deploy tomorrow to counter this little dust-up." A quizzical look overcame his subordinate.

"Tomorrow? Admiral, the 3rd Fleet could be here by nightfall, and by then the fascists will have already dropped off the counter-invasionary forces. What in god's name are you planning?"

"All good things to those who wait, Lieutenant." He stalked into his chair, tenting his fingers. "All good things to those who wait."

The mood at the camp was light. Soldiers who had removed their masks drank rations of coffee and ate out of a large crock set at the center, the welded-on crest of the Zakuvian Empire glowing a dull red. Those who didn't shared jokes and stories. Two men, who apparently hadn't gotten the last night's events out of their systems, were sparring with two branches taken from a tree that had met its end at the hand of a poorly aimed traitor's mortar. All of it looked hazy and green through the scout's goggles.

"They've set up camp for the night. I'm tracking their patrol movements."

"They should get moving. Word's going around that the GOW's thrown their hat in, and are coming in through the same way the Zaks did."

"Aren't they..." the question never finished. The rustling of grass, caused by boots crunching the foliage underfoot, forced them to silence. In their ghillie suits, the Anemos Special Forces were practically invisible in the darkness. The ASF were sent out to oversee the Zakuvians and their movements. Their leaders had been told that the Imperials were here to help with the recapturing of Farenz, just as they were. The top brass, however, were more afraid of the Zak's imperialist tendencies. If it was starting to look like they were going to overstay their welcome, then Anemos Prime would be there to stop them.

As the ASF leader watched, he was vindicated in his suspicion when the two distinct, glowing-red eye slits of a Zakuvian soldier's mask crested the hill. He made no movement, not daring to risk the sentry discovering him through whatever night-vision sensors he may have. The sentry raised a hand to his ear, indicative of sending out a transmission. The leader readied his pistol he kept near his stomach in case an alarm raised, or if he went for his rifle. To his relief, the sentry turned around and continued on his patrol, unaware of the five men lurking nearby.

A rustle and a loud thump came from a tree nearby, where one of his unit was stationed, sniper rifle at the ready. He touched his hand to the sub-vocal transmitter at his throat.

"Dermott, report." No reply. He repeated the request, to the same effect. The idiot must have fallen out of the tree and blown their cover.

"Highland Grass." A loud, somewhat mechanical voice said in the same direction of the tree. It was clearly not one of his own men, and he was terrified when the same kind of blazing red eyes began to power on inside the tree. The ruddy light was so bright it managed to illuminate a figure sitting in the tree where his spotter had once sat. The man wore almost bulky armor that was jet black, and on his chest, molded into the armor, was the tell-tale double triangle of the Zakuvian Empire. "Highland Grass. It doesn't grow in these valleys, you know?" The voice had an almost sing-song pitch to it.

The ASF scout was stunned. Before being deployed, their suits were refitted with Highland Grass, which grew in eighty-five percent of Farenz, and was deemed perfect for use in reconnaissance missions. Following standard procedure, the scout put his hands on his head and raised into a kneeling position.

"Where's Dermott?" The soldier thumbed towards the ground, where a large lump of 'foliage' lay. As if reading his mind, he replied.

"He's not dead. He just had a slight fall." Through his black and green makeup, the scout nodded out of respect. Judging by the large knife at the tree-mounted soldier's waist, he could have easily killed him.

"How do you want to do this, Imperial?" The man replied by pulling out was looked to be a small laser-designator.

"I want you and..." he continued by flashing the laser at the positions of the other three scouts in his team, who instinctively flinched as the bright light shot into their dark-adjusted eyes, "them to leave. It's rather rude watching other people have dinner, wouldn't you say? We're fighting the same conflict here, Anny, and there's no sense in having this knife-in-the-back runaround now, is there?" The ASF leader bristled at the pejorative used by so many of Anemos Major's foes. "Take what you brought, no more."

The leader clicked in rapid succession. Even though their cover was, for all intents and purposes blown, they still maintained their strict code of invisible communication. Dermott was waking up now, groggy and likely concussed. As he stumbled in line with his unit, the leader looked back at the Zakuvian, who was being joined by a handful of other troopers in similar armor.

"If we're fighting the same fight, why do you Imperials need people like you?" This garnered a laugh from the band of dark soldiers. The one in the tree replied,

"Why, because of people like you, of course!" This brought on a new bout of laughter from the group, who began singing a twisted parody of the Anemos Prime national anthem, as the ASF stalked away.

The USS Carl Vinson sailed into the Bay with her Esorts, upon hearing Radio TRansmissions all over the place talking of battles, her CBGs commanding officer, Rear Admiral Johnson, ordered 10 F-35Vs to hit Facist targets along the coast, and sunk numerous Facist Vessels(none GWO)

Admiral Johnson was sitting in the Vinsons CIC when a Vampire Alert came in

"How many and what type?"
"roughly 30 odd missiles, believed ot be old silkworms"
"Have the Picket FFGs handle them with their SM-4s, save the SM-5s and 6s incase the GWO come after us"

In Sector 14
A small man, giving the immediate impression of a rodent, stepped into the throne room of the Grand Duke of West Farenz. "Sire, terrible news."
"What is it?" asked the disgruntled man wearing elegant clothing and sitting in the elaborately decorated throne.
"Three nations have already joined East Farenz in the war against us. Our forces are loosing the east border and the coast. Many cities have taken damage from bombs. Sector 19 has already been lost."
The man considered for a moment. "All right, double the draft and move all troops to the border and Sector 19. Increase discipline. Make it known that any who do not fight at full force will be shot down by us."
"As you wish, sire."
"Do you have anything else to tell me, Mr. Vincent?"
"Yes, actually. You will be pleased to know that the Grand World Order has joined us in the war effort. Nothing else."
"Excellent, see to it that they are properly thanked and informed of our battle plans. You are dismissed."
"As you wish, sire." and with that the man left the room to complete the requested tasks.

Nearing International Waters

Admiral Harlequin Amoufhaz stood at the bridge of his Dreadnought (Keep in mind, Dreadnoughts from the GWO are MUCH different then the common form, the only real thing in common is the name, and the fact that it's armed like hell), the FWS Franco. Three Nimitz carriers surrounded his ship, and surrounding them were groups of Destroyers, Frigates, Cruisers, Corvettes, and of course, logistics, with a Battleship to top it off. The deployment was minor, but the escort group was large. The Directorate of Reconnaissance and Intelligence believed a Naval battle was going to occur, and thus, the correct preparations had to be made. Underneath, five conventionalized and modernized Akula Typhoon missile submarines were being protected by packs of T-212 attack submarines. Most of the ships were dark gray, with no fancy colorations (Though some had camouflage designs on them). They were designed to be very hard to spot with the eye, and nearly impossible at night.

In the air, combat air patrols were constantly flying. EA-18 Growlers were flying on-standby in case a surprise attack came and they were needed to jam hostile electronics, flying in unison with F-22Ns and a pair of AWACs. F-22Ns formed the mainstay of the air detachment, and F-35s were the strike fighter of choice. Harlequin was neatly dressed in his white Navy Uniform, with bits of blue adding color to it. These were the colors of the Federal Navy, white and blue. SONAR systems would easily warn of any mines, allowing the submarines and minesweepers to hit them with wooden torpedoes if necessary.

Passing the ships was a C-5 Galaxy-An-225 group. 15 of these airborne behemoths were flying, chalk full of weapons and members of various special forces units from the Army, Marines, and Internal Control Department.

Authorities in West Farenz received two radio calls at once, one requesting to enter territorial waters, and the other requesting to enter national airspace.

The fleets from the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia, that's what the name literally means) and Zakuvia weren't unnoticed. Satellite intelligence had pinged them before they even left their own waters, and 3D models of them were present in the Franco. If either became belligerent, which the Philadelphians possibly already were, the Order's fleet would be able to exploit their weaknesses rather easily. On board were new Sieg-class Hypersonic Cruise Missiles, which were in the middle of beta-testing. These missiles were far from ordinary...

#2 We know that you are here to Support the Facist Government, and we are here to Support the Federal Government, but perhaps we may be able to work out a Diplomatic Solution between the 2 Factions

Admiral Gedrun skimmed through the tactical report of the morning. Empires mercies, he pondered, did the place have enough water to cope with all of this naval power?

At least three fleets from as many nations were converging on Farenz, each one bristling with enough firepower to level the island nation three times over. And all over politics, he mused. It dumbfounded him how simple things such as politics, which bore so little prevalence in the real world, brought so much misery to mens lives. The Empire itself was not motivated by petty idealism in this matter. No, there were much more lucrative reasons for the double-triangle to fly at the mast of the Imperious. The massive banner had seen countless wars since the Empires conception, and was as much an Imperial relic as it was a symbol of pride and unity. Unity...even such a basic concept seemed to be lost on these people.

The Farenz, who clearly had lacked a good enough grip on its own citizens, were currently embroiled in a civil war, which the Empire was slowly being dragged into. The GOW, on the other hand, were so tight-fisted about their business that all of the grains of sand that slipped between their fingers now threatened to smother them in the tides of sedition. Be that as it may, the fleet they had managed to deploy was awe-inspiring.

If one were to look from a plane down upon the Zakuvian and the GOW fleets, one would be hard-pressed to see anything in the Empires favor. The GOW fleet comprised of dozens of vessels of varying sizes, and even sported a handful of aircraft carriers. On the other side of the table, the Zakuvian fleet included only the Imperious, whose profile was much smaller, given that the vectored-thrust jets and gunships it carried required no landing strip, and two supply ships. If it could be said that the GOW fleet was a mighty arrow, than the Zakuvian fleet was a knife in the dark.

Inside the Imperious was a command hub that controlled the true might of the Zakuvian 3rd: the Jaegers. Taking a page from, ironically, the German Navy of the second World War, the 3rd Fleet was made up of a mix of almost a hundred small Raven class U-boats and Penitent class submarines, spread like hornets protecting their queen. Mostly automated, with the exception of the gunnery crews (which, by Imperial edict, was a task expressly forbidden to machines), the Jaegers worked as the mailed fist to the Imperious' eyes and ears. This wasn't to say that the carrier itself was defenseless.

In order to best aid it's collection of mid-range attack craft, the Imperious was armed with a collection of missile racks, counter-missile autocannons, and a handful of deck-mounted machine guns. This wasn't to say the the ship was invincible, however. The Imperious had been struck a number of times by the cannons of larger ships as the vessel came in range.

This fact bothered the Admiral, and he scratched at his beard impatiently. The GOW weren't stupid, and would be sure to know both the strengths and weaknesses of the 3rd Fleet, even if their fancy little trackers couldn't actually get a bead on the Jaegers. Surely they'd send enough Destroyers to the fore to make sure they were taken care of. And then they'd put enough tenders behind them to ensure the Imperious' compliment of aircraft were neutralized. Then they'd...the Admiral halted himself. Removing his hat and laughing a bit, he realized he was worrying himself silly. He thought of the old proverb, "the pessimist is a man rarely disappointed." It had comforted him when he was an up-and-coming Captain on the hotseat to promotion, but now he dreaded it. No, he decided. Fear is the mind-killer. With that, he made a mental note to have all training drills doubled for whatever time they had left until they reached the Unmerciful.

"Coffee? You're fething serious? Coffee is why we lost Monden and Kyler?" The marching Zakuvians trudged unsteadily over the wet and rocky land that lead to the Sector Capitol. "Had it my way, I'd have just said feth it all, never drink another cup of the stuff, and have my boys back."

"It's not just about the coffee, Legrick. We buy a lot of other stuff off the Forenz. What do you think that pistol's made of? And all the wiring in your helmet? And the tips of your boots? Cotton?"

"I get it, we need the steel out of this place, and all of the other garbage. 'And we must defend the allies of the Empire, whether they find trouble from abroad or at home,'" Legrick said, dully imitating the voice of the High Commander. Through his mask, the other soldier laughed.

"That's about a week in the hole for seditious language, Leg. Wouldn't be surprised, with all your foul-mouthing the Commander, that they'd just be done with it and shoot you in the..." He paused, looking out in front of him. The sight had struck the soldier silent. "Don't see that every day, do you?"

The Firebase was large, containing the bulk of the Zakuvian assault forces preparing to engage the Capitol of Sector 19. Tanks and Personnel Carriers idled, ready to do battle. Siege engines rumbled throatily, prepared to level fortress walls and buildings with equal disdain. Mechanics and crewmen rushed back and forth, giving them an almost ant-like appearance from on the hill. They were going to help with that. Legrick and his friend were members of the Zakuvian 423rd Siege Infantry, soldiers maintained specifically for the purpose of what they were about to do. In it's military's infancy, the Empire understood that the newest aspect to warfare relied not on the biggest gun, but on the best defenses.

Modern warfare was close and gritty, favoring the urban jungle over the actual one. Where once hills and valleys ruled military stratagems, now it was a matter of rooftops and sewers. Trained in the mastery of brutal hand-to-hand fighting, building demolition, and counter-sniping, the 423rd typified the idea of the city fight. Where conventional armies would be bogged down sending in vehicles and bulky ordnance, the Zakuvians believed in the primacy of the soldier when it came to such close quarters. Such a matter was of little import to the 16th Armored.

Bred in the Western Zakuvian forges, the 16th Armored was made up of fifty tanks and APC's with enough crew and soldiers to accommodate them, and two siege engines built for sheer destruction over tactical multi-tasking. The Calamity and the Holy Discord were built upon a similar system used to transport the Space Shuttles the United States deployed, but were singular, instead of being quad-tracked. On their immense hulls rested their bread and butter, the Harbinger cannon. Although having a piteous range, the cannons were capable of leveling city blocks, or putting a two-tank wide hole in most defenses, as it was more commonly used for. Ponderous and unmaneuverable, the siege engines were used more for their intimidating features than any real combat effectiveness.

As Legrick and his compatriot looked on, they noticed that the Capitol was already in flames, even though the majority of the vehicles bearing the Imperialis were still inside the Firebase. Looters, they decided without speaking. Looters and vandals more interested in destruction and anarchy than any real ideology. Well, they decided as they marched in parade ground precision, they were going to see some real destruction very soon.

If the soldiers in Sector 19 looked up they would see a spectacular aerial battle taking place between ten of the strange aircraft previously described. It was five-on-five. One side fired yellow lasers from their side-mounted guns while the other side fired red. One of the ones firing yellow was shot down. The pilot did not have time to eject before the craft crashed into a building jest ahead and to the left of the 423rd. The man who was wearing an old-fashioned aviator suit fell to the asphalt below with a loud thump and a groan.

Meanwhile, people in the capital building in Sector 19 began launching FZ-SMP Oscillator Mortars at the incoming enemy forces. These weapons would use amplified sound waves to shatter human bones within a radius of about twenty feet unless they were soundproofed.

While the sound guns were still a threat, the F-35V could still outmanuever the enmy aircraft and outspeed them, and the pilots were trained never to get within 400 ft of their targets, the best range for the 30mm Rapid Fire Machine Cannons, making the sound guns useless as well, though a few enemy aircraft got the drops on the only 5 First Production F-35Vs which were the only aircraft here made of Aluminum, all the others were made of Steel or Thin lightweight Titanium, resulting in massive losses for the facist factions.

Many of the pilots switched their guns to steel deciding that it was the next most likely material for the planes to be made of. This setting worked on most planes in range, but the problem was that most were not in range. The pilot of the lead craft got on the radio and told everyone to change the sound level to 30. This extended the range to about 300 feet. It was still a bit short, but better. They did, however, have the advantage of maneuverability as a result of their design.

Meanwhile, in Port Farenz

Also, may i get a estimate on what is left of the W Farenz Armed Forces?

The WF navy consisted of about 20 Leviathan Class Cruisers and 10 Coelacanth Class Submarines. The submarines launched torpedoes at the enemy ships as soon as they showed up on radar and alerted the cruisers of the threat. With the coordinates of the enemy ships, the WF ships launched sound rockets, range 200 miles, at them. They had varied settings, most set to steel or titanium, but some were set to other materials, just in case.

As soon as the rockets were detected being fired, 120 BGM-111 Rattlers were fired off at the enemy Cruisers, with 3,000 pound warheads each, the 6 targeted at each vessel was enough to sink it, or at least damage it enough that it was of no use to even bother reparing it.

The Rattlers had been polished up by the EO Mechanics before being sent off with the ships, making most of the missiles immune to the Lasers. 3 of the missiles failed ot launch and another 3 blew up within 2 miles of the ships, though they were targeted on 6 different vessels.

As for the sound rockets, as soon as they detected each vessel fired off a barrage of SM-8 SAM Missiles, 500+from the DDGs and the Bunker Hill, and 120 from the FFGs.

The Destroyers detected the torpedo launches, and unleashed the ambush for them, immediately 30 old P-3 Orions dropped out of the sky and dropped 2 MK-87 ADCAP's each, and 30 Newer Virginia Class Subs fired off 4 of the MK-87 ADCAP's each as well, totaling 18 Torpedoes per sub, none of them could evade them all.

All but 2 of the subs were sunk and 12 of the ships survived. No torpedo hit the enemy and of the roughly 100 rockets fired, about 20 made it through enemy defenses. Another barrage of 60 rockets were launched and about 10 torpedoes. The six ships at the rear found themselves fighting ships from East Farenz. This situation was looking bad. Several sound mines were dropped and shot into the water. Sound weapons were especially powerfull underwater where the water amplified the low-frequency vibrations.

The Construction of the Arleigh Burkes resulted in the crippling of 2 from the Sound Rockets, of the second barrage only 3 made it through the missile umbrella, and than were taken out by CIWS 35mm Fire from the ships Machine Cannons.

The Subs fired another 30 torpedoes, killing the last 2 subs, the 10 torpedoes fired from the Coelacanth subs found and crippled 2 of the FFGs

At This time the F/A-15G force that had killed all the Aeronavis's returned
This time loaded up full with 5,000 Pound Laser Guided Bombs, 2 per plane, 278 bombs in total.

The ships fired another 60 rocket barrage, but these were different. They were launched high into the air, exploding about 500 feet directly above the enemy ships. They each contained 1,000 sharp iron knives with weighted tips so that they would always fall point-down. This had the effect of a deadly rain of knives. With the falling speed of the iron, they could probably punch through 2 feet of steel or so. Bullets would only knock them around a bit and missile defenses weren't equipped for such small targets.

The Weapons, while never knowingly been used before, was the exact targets that a 35mm CIWS Machine Cannon was designed for, before the warheds detonated32 of them had been destroyed, sent tumbling into the sea, the remainder did not cause much damage to the ships, due to their reinforced designs, but did play hell with the SPY and SPG Radar Systems

((Sorry, forgot. 6 sunk.))

Another identical barrage was launched. The WF ships then retreated a bit, about 20 miles.

The Next barrage from those weapons had a identical results, while as the enemy vessels retreated, the Virgnia Subs Pursued, and 3 B-1Bs came in, each carrying 20 Missiles, launching them all at the ships, a even split amongst them, and retreated before any weapons could be fired back

The West Farenzian ships reached port fafely and repairs began immediately. Construction of more ships was also commissioned. The seas were lost for the moment, but coastal defenses were being increased ten-fold. The aeronavis were being re-fitted with long-range machine guns as back-up weapons. In the mean time, the East Farenz forces in Sector 12 were slowly but surely being forced northward.

West Farenzian fortifications responded with heavy anti-aircraft fire while several divisions of Aeronavis were launched, now carrying short-range rockets and machine guns. The East Farenzian land forces, now reinforced, began to push forward again when West Farenz responded with several divisions of tanks which East Farenz, due to its peaceful ways, had a severe shortage of. Armed armored cars, SUVs, and trucks produced by Firebird Auto attempted to counter, but they simply weren't enough.

Behind the Infrantry, 2,000 M7 MBTs armed with massive 170mm Main Cannon, unpainted Aluminum on the Skin, this was probably too much for the WF Tanks, though who would know untilt he battle was over, as for the Aeronavis, 400 F-22Ns soon arrived, iring fully 3,000 AMRAAM-8s, and 3,000 More AIM-9Z Sidewinders

As soon as the added planes were detected, several more divisions of aeronavis were launched. The total number now in the air was at 5,000. The tanks switched to mortars, machine guns, and rockets, concentrating their fire on the EO tanks. Soon even more tanks rolled in, bringing the number up to 1,000.

EO Decided they had had enough, after the Current skirmishes were Over, they would pullout, and save what they could, while leaving the ground forces on to assist EF Troops
