OOC: Yes, I know; threads of this nature normally belong on the NationStates forum, but in a sense, a large-scale sporting event such as this could be considered a major world incident, and simply put, few if anybody ever ventures to NationStates board anyways. I've seen similar competitions and sports on II, such as Special Forces contests and the like, so why not major sports such as Football or Baseball?

International Hockey Tournament Official Invitation

Greetings fellow nations of the world,

It is with great pride that we annouce the creation and organization of a multi-national Ice Hockey tournament, showcasing the best players from within your country and beyond. You, amongst others, have been invited to take part in such an exciting and invigorating contest against your fellow nations on a national scale, facing the best of the best in the world.

This weeklong event will take place in the Falkasian Trediak Arena, a massive ice rink dedicated to hockey and professional ice skating; all located within the heart of downtown Ekaterine. All teams will be lodged in the enormous Kazyenko Independence Tower, which is located directly across from the arena itself, and will be treated as foreign dignitaries with all the available amentities granted upon them.

When the time to play comes, each nation's team will be paired up against another nation's team, and will play following standard NHL Hockey rules. For those leaders interested but unfamiliar with ice hockey, or the rules thereof, a pamphlet has been provided below for your review and discretion.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Fatatatutti might be interested but we have to warn you that none of our players have ever skated on ice before. We have some pretty good inline skaters though.

OOC: Thanks for saving me, lol.

That is perfectly fine. Ice skating should be very similar, if not near-identical to roller-blading.

Brief Bio: Current Falkasian recordholder of longest time on ice, as well as most checks in the Falkasian Hockey League. Promoted to National level after successfully defending the Ekaterine Commissars' net from a All Out Attack rush from the opposing team, during a Commissars' Penalty Kill and a pulled goalie. OOC: Just want to know if I can have a female goaltender, think it might spice thinks up.
Plutoni
04-04-2009, 04:14
OOC: Plutoni will be giving this a pass, but just for the record, I don't think there's any rule against women playing in the NHL...just a history of them not playing in it. A female goaltender did play in an NHL preseason match, and female players have played professionally in Europe as well as U. S. minor leagues. See here! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_ice_hockey#Women.27s_ice_hockey)

There's precedent in the NS ice hockey tournaments too.
Falkasia
04-04-2009, 04:27
OOC: Thanks for pointing that out Plutoni. Perhaps I misunderstood the rules somewhere. Tutlingburg, feel free to include a female goaltender as a starter. Again, my mistake.
Fatatatutti
04-04-2009, 04:29
OOC: Nope, sorry. I mean, I have no problems with a female goalie, but by NHL rules, they can't play.

OOC: That can't be right. Manon Rhéaume did play in a couple of pre-season games. If that's your ruling, Fatatatutti will have to bow out too. Under our law, it would be illegal to exclude women.
Falkasia
04-04-2009, 04:29
OOC: See above. I was seriously, seriously mistaken, lol. Again, my apologies everyone. Misunderstood the rules, even after playing hockey for years, lol.

OOC: See above. I was seriously, seriously mistaken, lol. Again, my apologies everyone. Misunderstood the rules, even after playing hockey for years, lol.

Falkasia
04-04-2009, 04:36
OOC: Great. Yea, equal amount of years of using a computer have taught me to be grammatically correct when typing incredibly fast on the fly, lol. Either that, or it's my RL goalie reflexes, lol.

OCC: Alright, now the starting lineup.I'll in introduce secondary players as needed. I hope you don't mind me borrowing your post layout, Falkasia.

Allied States of Tutlingburg National Team

Name: Maria W. Kelly
Position: Goaltender
Age: 25
Brief Bio: Goaltender for Tutlingburg City Silver Tigers. First female to play in the THL, First female to play in a international tournament on a men's team. She lead the Silver Tigers to their first Silver Cup in 13 years, with a .948 save percentage, and a 1.57 GAA.

Name: Louis "The Hammer" Douglas

Name:Eric Nilsson
Position: Defense
Age: 18
Brief Bio: Signed right out of the High School, Nilsson leads the FHL in assists, with 89. Comes into tournament with something to prove, as his giveaway in overtime at the 2008 World Juniors cost the A.S.T. a fifth gold medal.Plays for the Tutlingburg City Silver Tigers, and supposedly romantically involved with Maria Kelly.

Name: Charles Worthington
Position: Center
Age: 19
Brief Bio: The future of Tutlingburgian hockey is here. Considered the best player since Loggins, he had a record setting rookie season, in which he scored 100 goals, and won his first cup with the Silver Tigers. Also likes to drop the gloves now and again.

Name: James A. Rowley
Position: Left-Wing
Age:36
Brief Bio: With the Isleham Grenades last year, he lead the league in game winning goals, shorthanded goals, and takeaways. Has played with the Grenades for entire career and has never won cup. Due to international tournament experience, was named team captain.

Name: Martin Kunze
Position: Right-Wing
Age:27
Brief Bio: His three highlight-reel goals and shootout winner at the All-Star game in Tutlingburg city, made him a household name and helped him get a contract there. However since then, low goal production, terrible penalties, and rumors of ties to a local mafia don, have local papers demanding his trade. Perhaps, a good performance here will silence the critics.

OCC: I am Canadian, and I take even my RP hockey, seriously. LOL! Hope you don't mind I might post a IC newspaper article before the tourny starts. Also I would like to know how we are gonna do the games, cause I'm a noob in RP and don't wanna mess this up.

04-04-2009, 14:58
OOC: Feel free to post whatever you wish. I have no problem with it. As for how we do it, it will be almost like any other RP. You say what's going on, then your opponent says what's going on, and so on. If you have the time, I recommend you look at other threads on this site for just a basic idea of how things work, but also read the Compass to International Incidents on the main page; up near the top. Although it doesn't cover sports, you might be able to find some good help in there!

Well, we've managed to slap together the finest team that no money can buy.

(Note: By sheer coincidence, our entire line is female. We assure you that, in accordance with Fatatatutian law, no males were harmed in the selection of this team.)

Presenting the Fatatatutti National Hockey Team - the Valkyries:

Name: Erica Wahl
Position: Goaltender
Age: 26
Bio: Erica has been playing inline hockey for three years. Known as the "Wall of Voodoo" because of her fast hands, she is our main hope for not losing by too much.

Name: Debbie "Guns" Gershon
Position: Defense
Age: 29
Bio: Debbie is new to inline hockey this year but she is no stranger to athletics - track and field, gymnastics, soccer, softball, etc. She was chosen as Captain because of her leadership abilities. She refuses to discuss her nickname.

Name: Alexandra "Big Al" Adrian
Position: Defense
Age: 22
Bio: What she lacks in speed, Alex makes up for in stregth. She can be very - ahem - hard to get past. This is her first season in inline hockey. Her past sporting experience was mainly in wrestling.

Name: Alexandra "Zandy" Nkruma
Position: Center
Age: 23
Bio: Zandy has been playing inline hockey since she was three years old. A very aggressive player, she is known for penalties as well as goal-scoring.

Name: Kelly "KiKi" Kamehameha
Position: Left Wing
Age: 19
Bio: Kelly took after her father, Dooley "Bruddah" Kamehameha, as a soccer star. She has been inline skating since she was a child and she believes that hockey will be much like soccer, "except with more sticks".

Name: Fabien "Fab" Smith
Position: Right Wing
Age: 19
Bio: Fabien comes to hockey from street luge and inline speed skating. Today she's considered one of Fatatatutti's fastest women on ten wheels. We hope she'll be able to control that power on the ice surface.

(Fun facts: In the French Quarter of Fatatatutti, the team has been dubbed Les Fatatutiennes. An anonymous wit observed that they'll be the only team with two names and no players.)

Tutlingburg National Team Departs For International Hockey Tournament

Tutlingburg City- Thousands gathered at Tutlingburg City International, yesterday, to see the national hockey team depart for the International Hockey tournament to start next week.

Competition will be fierce as, The Falkasian National Team, has sent two of the best players in the world today. Illyich Kamisov, whose shootout goals have become a sensation on IWATCH.COM, and Petros Wehyling, a future hall of fame defencemen. The Fatatatutti National Hockey Team, on the other hand, has decided to send an all female team to the tournament, a world first.

Not to worry however, our national team has been loaded with the Tutlingburg Hockey League's hottest stars. Maria W. Kelly, the best goalie in the league. Charles Worthington, who has befuddled each defense and goalie he has ever faced, and do not forget, James A. Rowley, who will be in his last tourny.

When asked about his chances of winning the tournament, Head Coach Martin Porter replied, "I think were as good as any team out there...I like our chances."

We here at A.S.T Today will have continuing coverage of the tournament everday in the paper, or up to the minute reports on ASTTODAY.AS

International Hockey Tournament Only Days Away

Ekaterine- Yes hockey fans, it's true! Only a mere two days until the International Ice Hockey Tournament arrives in downtown Ekaterine and you can be sure it'll be an exciting one! Featuring the best teams from around the world, this is likely to be the biggest, if not the greatest sporting event in Falkasian history.

It is without a doubt that competition will be fierce and games equally as close. Tutlingburg's primary starting goalie, Maria W. Kelly, is the first female ever to play in a predominately men's Hockey League, and has since become the most frequently watched and followed player by almost every professional scout in Falkasia.

On the other hand, however, the country of Fatatatutti has sent quite the mismatched team, consisting of players and racers from many different sports and most of whom have enver ice skated in their lives. Although we aren't making any predictions as to the outcome of this Tournament, we will say this; whoever plays Fatatatutti in the first round is likely to be in for a good time, both amusing and equally challenging.

Despite the hefty loads of competition cut out for us, rest assured that your Falkasian National Team will be playing at the top of their game. Starting award-winning Illyich Kamisov and goalie Ladislav Trediak Jr. should be more than a match for whatever any team has to throw at them. On defense, Petros Wehyling should be moire than capable of throwing a few corkscrews into oncoming offense.

As for the outcome of this tournament, only time can tell. Stay with us for daily updates as events unfold, here with the Ekaterine Times.

Kiki Kamehameha held up a rounded piece of hard plastic with padding on what she presumed was the inside. "Where does this go?"

"Just tape it on wherever it fits," Debbie Gershon said without looking up as she continued stuffing her equipment into her bag. Why do I have to be everybody's mother? she asked herself.

"I don't think I have such a place," Kiki mused.

"Don't worry about it for now," growled Ernie Shack, the team manager and coach. A distant cousin of his had once played professional hockey, which made him Fatatatutti's leading authority on the subject. "If you ain't got the places, they don't need protecting, do they? We'll have a run-through when we get to Falkasia. Now, let's get moving so we can get some ice time in before it counts."

"Is ice time what I think it is?" Fabien Smith asked. But nobody was listening.

"The bus is here," Ernie roared. The girls followed him out into the bright sunlight, lugging bags of equipment that weighed almost as much as they did and trying to juggle sticks and stray odds and ends at the same time.

The bus, like all Fatatatutian buses, had the word 'Bus' helpfully painted on the side.

Bohovian Hockey Player's Leave for the International Hockey Tournament

The team was getting ready to board the plane, as over 2000 Bohovians were waving flags and chanting "Go Bohovia Go!"

They got in the private jet, and waved to the cheering crowd once again as fireworks blow up into the night sky, reading "Good luck, represent us well!".

The plane then takes-off into the night sky

Alex Adrian had never flown in a C-130 before. It was a lot noisier than a passenger jet, she thought, but it was the constant squeaking that was most unnerving. "How far is it to Falkasia?" she asked of nobody in particular.

"Depends on how many stops we have to make," Debbie Gershon replied, glancing up from the rule book that she had been studying. There were several tarp-covered pallets in the cargo bay with them and they had no idea what would be delivered first.

The youngsters, Kiki and Fab, or the Boobsie Twins as she had been calling them in her mind, had been sound asleep since the minute they sat down. The so-called 'Wall of Voodoo' was dozing, opening her eyes every few seconds as if pucks were already being shot at her. Zandi Nkruma, her dark skin all but invisible in the semi-lit aircraft, was lying on her back on the floor, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling. The coach was hunched over a pad and pencil, muttering to himself, hatching diabolical plots to score goals, no doubt.

The loadmaster appeared out of the gloom in his grey coveralls. "Gear up, ladies. We're approaching Falkasia. Sorry we don't have time for anything but a rolling stop."

Debbie was the first to move. As captain, it was her job to wake up the sleeping beauties and make sure nothing got left behind.

"How long until we land?" asked Martin Porter.

"We're about twenty minutes out," replied Captain Wheeler, " team getting a little restless out there?"

" A bit, most of them have never taken so long of a flight. Well I guess I should head back and get ready for landing, see you later." Porter turned and left the cockpit, closing the door as he went.

Just before he sat down, he looked over his team for what he thought was the millionth time. Most of them were sleeping, some were watching the in-flight film, others talking quietly to teammates. He thought about the last year of his life, from being asked to coach the national team, to picking out the players, to the last intense month of training, he wondered if it would all pay off.

"Something wrong coach?" Porter snapped out of his daze and looked towards Maria, who was looking at him with a concerned look on her face.

"What?...no..no..nothing is wrong, I was just thinking," Porter said sheepishly, " Captain Wheeler just told me we would be landing soon, so you might wanna strap in."

"Okay then." Maria looked at him for a second, then buckled her seat belt, and went back to her magazine. Porter still couldn't believe a young woman could be such a goaltender, nor had he thought he would ever coach a team in which his goalie and defenseman would be dating. Part of him knew he was being old-fashioned, and Maria was a fine person, always going to see the kids at the hospital.

"Everybody, would you please return to your seats and buckle your belts, we have begun our decent into Ekaterine." boomed Captain Wheeler's voice out of the speakers, as Porter sat down in his seat and buckled his seat belt.

Five minutes later, the old A.S.T Air Force 737 touched softly down on the tarmac, and began taxiing to the gate. The team inside began preparing to deplane, all the while eager to see what awaited them.
