Breaking news from the Republic Daily Report:

Today, the government of The Romulan Republic stunned the world with a declaration of war against all non-democratic nations, defined in the press release as any nation that failed to hold regular and open elections, and grant to all its citizens the rights of life, democratic representation, due process of law, and freedom of expression. This network requested an update, but has so far recieved no futher information. New updates will be broadcast as they come in.

Nyx looked up from his briefings, "Whats this about The Romulan Republic declaring war on everyone?"
"No, Mr. President only on countries that nation that failed to hold regular and open elections, and grant to all its citizens the rights of life, democratic representation, due process of law, and freedom of expression."

President Hernandez scanned the various letters and messages that had been flooding his office over the last hour. Then he picked up the phone and called the offices of the Secretaries of Defense and Foreign Affairs.

Twenty minutes later, messages went out to military instillations across the Republic, raising the military to level 3 combat readiness. Meanwhile, a half dozen police units decended on the offices and studio of the Republic Daily Report, while the President prepared to make a live television adress to the nation.

OOC: My military has always stood and always will stand ready to carry out its duty to the world and citizens of The Romulan Republic.

The Dominion of Bohovia is indeed a demorcratic country, but despite this we are outraged by this war thats seems to have no real point to it. We would advise you to stand down or face a war that would destroy your nation and put you citizens in danger for no reason. We will not be taking military action as no war has been started on a specifc nation, If one is to occur we will take swift action against your nation.

While the Empire does have a loose democracy, some of our closest staunch allies have either dictatorships or Monarchies that work for the people of their nation. To declare war on an ally of the Shazbotdom Empire is to openly declare war upon the soverignty of a nation.

_____The Shazbotdom Empire will protect the soverignty of it's allies by any means nessicary. If the Ledership of The Romulan Republic doesn't withdraw it's declaration of war, there shall exist a state of war between The Romulan Republic and The Shazbotdom Empire. This is your official warning, there will be no others.

I hoped I'd manage to trick one or two at least, since my actual national policies are strongly pro-democracy, enough that it might be somewhat believable. Since it is now April second in Toronto, consider this joke over.:) Though I won't deny I was tempted to play it through. The thought of a hopeless war for freedom against the rest of the world had its appeals.;))

However, rest assured that our military operations at this time are restricted to low-level actions involving only a few states.

Similar messages have been sent to all other nations that expressed their concerns, and President Hernandez has made a public announcement to confirm the above.
