huge oil discovery on Frei Island (open, MT)

Huge oil discovery on Frei Island, Tubaui’n drillers commencing excavation.

Frei Island, a small un-inhabited island 126 nautical miles off of the coast of the Tubaui’n mainland, has recently been the subject of a large oil discovery.

Frei Island has never been witness to a civilian population, but in 1998 a small military base was set up to project Tubaui’n air power further afield.

In late 2008, a military accident on Frei Island which ended in six servicemen injuries resulted in the discovery of an enormous deposit of oil reserves under Frei Island and the ocean around it. After a brief amount of research, it has been estimated that a possible 184,000,000 barrels of oil could be lying underneath Frei Island.

As the republic of Tubaui has never been a large exporter of petroleum, this discovery could boost the Tubaui’n economy generously. Many drilling corporations have expressed interest in the Frei Island reserves, however, because of the military presence on the Island, only the nationalized drilling force ‘Tubaui’n riggers’ has been cleared for drilling on the Island; and the government has not expressed any interest in allowing anybody else to drill on or around the Island.

Frei Island

Pilot Miller, a first-rate naval aviation pilot, walked briskly out of the hangar, having taxied his GR7 series BAE systems Harrier back into its hangar following his routine patrol. Desperate to get out of his flight suit, especially in this overly-hot weather, Miller broke out into a jog so as to get out of the blazing heat. His Wingman, Pilot Faram, was still in the hangar attempting to explain to the engineers why one of his brimstone missiles had ended up in the middle of a large piece of driftwood.
Miller finally reached the air-crew buildings, bursting through the nearest door he could find, only to have placed himself in the middle of a briefing, with the twelve interceptor pilots stationed here listening attentively to their pair of flight commanders, who were just finishing there speech on whatever the ‘tomcatters’ needed to know.

“Alright boys, your all clear on this one? Let me hear it from y’all?” the lead commander bawled at the lounging pilots, who all shouted back their affirmation, and proceeded to file out

“Hey! Sharnez! What’s this about?” Miller asked one of the retreating pilots.

“Sum Air-force boys are getting posted here.” Sharnez replied quickly, barely even turning his head.

“What? There replacing us already?” Miller asked in disbelief, shocked that command thought the posting couldn’t handle the security of the new oil discovery.

“No, there bolstering the forces already on the Island, I think commands expecting something.” Sharnez replied, a grim look on his face.

OOC: well, basically my nations found a shed load of crude oil underneath Frei Island, which is itself about 233 kilometers away from my shoreline, and my government has claimed it for themselves, sending a larger military detatchment to the island.
I haven't planned anything out so take this where you want to.
Although i wouldn't mind a small war RP, that didn't spread outside of the Island. (cough* invade it *cough)

Could Sametrean Oil stake a small claim in this field? Of course, we have strict government regulations so this company will not hurt the environment and will contribute in taxes to your nation.

OOC:
my detatchment at the moment is:
6 F-14D's
8 Harrier GR7's
106 Marine Infantry
4 Dardo IFV's

I know, very small, but it was only ever a small naval outpost, so there wasn't any need for a large amount of troops.

We have noted your companies offer for a claim on the land of Frei Island, and we have come to the decision that we will allow a contract for a possible 5-8% landmass of Frei island, on the condition that a six month delay is put into action (give it a week in real time) before any of your drillers arrive on the Island.
We will grant the landmass for drilling purposes only, at a negotiable price.

OOC: i'l sell you 5-8% of the landmass on Frei, for a price however. give me 6 months NS time (a week in real life) to get my work up and running before hand, while we negotiate size and price of the contract (if it doesn't fall through that is, which it may if BC or anyone else decides to do anything)

Claudius Griffincrest reviewed the findings of oil on a small island, and smirked a bit. The force sent to claim the island was negligible, but with the Allaneans keeping a close eye on him and his actions, he was hard pressed for a way to claim the island. In a few minutes, however, he had a plan in the works, and men were on the move.

A small team of elite commandos sat on their boats, fishing boats and other civilian pleasure craft, every moment getting closer to the oil rich island. They bore no signs of belonging to Griffincrest, and no connection would be made. Several other groups, much like them, were making their way here, eighty men all together. Griffincrest could not openly strike the island without massive international retaliation, and so it was opted for a covert strike to seize the area.

It would not be long now before the first team hit the shore.

Somewhere over the Tubauian Sea, 0100 hours

When the dark rolling waves came into clear view, the senior sergeant disconnected the raft module and observed it rocket towards the surface, slowly inflating on the way down.

The light column switched from red to green, and the Lieutenant took the first leap out of the back of the helicopter. His sergeants and soldiers followed suit. The team made splashdown within 40 meters of each other, and took a few minutes to gather and collect onto the small rubber raft.

They made full speed for the shore. Their recon would begin as soon as they made landfall...

Corporal Sheppard and his 4-man fire team patrolled the shore, just as they had done for the past few weeks; and, just as they had done for the past few weeks, they found absolutely nothing - no suspicious activity, no human activity at all for that matter. For over five weeks, Sheppard had seen no person outside that of his own company and the air force posting here, of which he had barely seen anyway.

Just before he turned back, something caught his eye way over on the edge of the horizon . . . ships, several ships, only small, but still . . . the navy vessels that dropped off the forces left three days ago, and wouldn't be back for another four. Moreover, Sheppard hadn't seen a damn thing at all throughout all the time he'd been on this blazing hot corner of the world.

He radioed in command:
"alpha, shadow four-two, we've got several ships heading to land from the south-southwest, they look civilian, but caution remains, orders?

a few heart-stopping seconds passed, then his mic chirped a reply:
"shadow four-two, alpha, safeties off, vessels this far out is suspicious, request before firing, alpha out.

Tubaui'n control room, Frei Island

Commander Vores grimaced, the quick deploy radar his task force had been given was woefully inadequate, and he couldn't see a damn thing, air or sea.

He'd heard reports of a group of small vessels, probably civilian, approaching steadily from the south-southwest, though the crappy radar just showed a blur in that area, nothing pinpoint at all. A few minutes ago he could have sworn something airborne had come into the airspace then quickly exfiltrated, but he had no idea what it was, or even if it was just the Radar playing with his mind.

He loathed it out here, these places make you paranoid, he thought to himself, as he sat back in his darkened control room.

"Hey LT," Sergeant First Class Irwin said, "I got eyes on Tier One's."
First Lieutenant Fitzpatrick took the binoculars from Irwin and took a look for himself.

"What is it LT?" one of his buck sergeants asked.
Fitz replied, "We got three or four guys about three hundred meters upspin from where we were going to beach. Fuck." He thought for a moment. The men stayed quiet, waiting for his call. He had about 30 seconds to make it before they made the final approach.

"Ok," he said, "Take us about fifty meters farther left up the beach, we'll try to be low and fast. Get ashore, pick the bitch up and haul ass into the woodline. Stick to the plan from there. Disperse into two man teams and meet at the rally point. Everybody still good with that?"

"Roger that sir." they replied.

They came into the wave-break zone and cut their motor. The sound of the ocean was all that could be heard as their boat waded back and forth. They came ashore at a good speed, the rubber hull grinding on the gritty sand. They all rolled out of the craft, took to their knees and lifted up the boat. They made no concern over the shore party, they only concerned themselves with vanishing.

The ten men ditched their boat a hundred meters into the jungle, and dispersed into the wilderness.

The first small boat to leave the larger fishing ships hit shore around the same time as the men from Royal Code, and under the cover of darkness quickly began to prepare on the beach for the rest of their team. Men silently fanned out to watch for any patrols nearby, and in a short while, more men would be on the beach as well.

To: the Government of Tubaui
From: President Ingram Hasley, the Democratic Republic of Cazatania

The Cazatanian government is very interested in purchasing a portion of your oil fields. We are willing to pay NS$3 Billion for six to ten percent of your oil fields. We are also willing to pay NS$10 Million annually for fifteen years and we are willing to share twenty percent of annual profits with you for as long as we own the fields. Also, to insure the sovereignty of both of our fields we will deploy the 37th Mechanized Infantry and the 5th Carrier Battle Group to the island. These units will operate along with your forces if permitted by your government. If you accept our proposal we will reroute our military units and fly in our drilling crews. Both groups will take three days to arrive at the island.

Sincerely,

To: Whom it May Concern
From: The Office of Edward Flavius, Royal Trinidad Energy

Dear Sir (or Ma'am),

The Royal Trinidad Energy (RTE) corporation, a leader in energy solutions and the petroleum business, in light of the news of the discovery of a large oil field in your nation, would like to request permission to purchase land at the nearest deep-water port to the Frei Island Oil Field so as to construction a refinery with easy access to national and international shipping. We would also like to request permission to survey the ocean floor so as to independently verify the extent of the oil field and assess the potential of establishing offshore drilling platforms (with of course, government permission and payment).

Our intentions for the refinery are to be able to refine up to 500,000 barrels of oil a day, with the room for expansion if necessary. The expected value of the sale of land and the cost of construction of the refinery and its port access are estimated at around $25 Billion (Universal Standard Dollars). As much as possible we plan to hire local contractors and workers to construct the refinery and upon complete to fill positions at the refinery and our regional operations.

With your government's permission and oversight, it is also our hope to be able to complete a full oceanic survey of the full extent of the oil field to independently verify it's size and volume, and to assess the potential for offshore drilling. Once that verification is completed the corporation would like to request offshore drilling rights, and is willing to offer the Tubaui government $15 Billion USD for those rights.

Royal Trinidad Energy is quite excited by the potential expansion into Tubaui and do hope that we can come to a profitable arrangement with your glorious government. The corporation has extensive experience with both on and offshore drilling and refining in the Caribbean and in Nusquam Esse, as well as offshore drilling and refining experience in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, and has been a leader in the petroleum industry since 2003. We can also assure the government and people of Tubaui that we are skilled at limiting our environmental impact and are actively pursuing cleaner and greener solutions to further limiting the impact our operations can have on the global environment and ecology.

Royal Trinidad Energy and myself would like to thank the government of Tubaui and yourself, for you time and consideration. We look forward to receiving your reply.

Sincerely,
Edward Flavius
Representing and Chief Operations Officer of Royal Trinidad Energy

HMS Halid (F429)
Fifty nautical miles off Frei Island

The City class frigate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sachsen_class_frigate) Halid moved through the still waters of Frei Island at a brisk fifteen knots. The frigate had been on a routine anni-piracy patrol near the area when Tubaui's annoucement of a massive petroleum field in their waters. Knowing that such an announcement by a rather smal nation was bound to bring out plenty of efforts to take the oil the Commonwealth had dispatched the Halid to keep an eye on the situation and make sure that any instability didn't threaten Tolvanic shipping in the area.

The squad came back together almost 24 hours later in a low valley, alongside a river some 10 miles inland. Everyone showed up within about an hour of the target time.

"Looks like we didn't cause to much of a fuss." SFC Irwin said to Fitz.
"Yeah, everyone here?"
"Yes sir. Good to go." he replied.

"Ok, pick it up!" The men all got to their feet and moved out. They spent the remainder of the day moving up a small mountain and establishing their AO (area of operation). With the perimeter set and nightwatch roster squared away, the LT made his first attempt to reach higher.

"Kodiak One this is Grey Wolf Alpha." he waited for a response. Nothing.
"Kodiak One...this is Grey Wolf Alpha, requesting COM. Over." a moment passed.

"Grey Wolf Alpha, this is Kodiak One. Send it."
"Roger Kodiak, my men have placed the beacons, we're all set. Over."
"Good copy Grey Wolf. What's the status on our LZ? Over?"
"Beach-head is patrolled by dismounts, fire team sized elements. Heavier sized elements further inland. Routine patrols. Over."
"Roger that Grey Wolf. Be advised, allied troops will be coming ashore from the Griffencrest, confirm, over."
The LT was glad to hear it. "Good copy Kodiak."
"Grey Wolf, expect friendly air insertion within 48 hours. Over."
"Roger Kodiak. Expecting friendlies. Grey Wolf out."

"Ok men, listen up!" he yelled, "Main body will be dropping in any time between now and day after tomorrow, watch what the hell you're aiming at. Got me?"

The men confirmed his order.

Fitzpatrick took a look out to sea. The mountain gave him a great view. Was that a fleet he saw out there? Those arent Griffencrest ships... he thought. The flyboys better get here fast.

We have heard about the discovery of "black gold" aka Oil resources at one of your islands. The USSM is interested in establishing Oil Refineries that would benefit both of our nations. I hope you accept the request of our great nation to acquire oil fields. We will pay NS$10 billion for the oil fields. Also, the USSM will answer for the construction of the oil derricks and refineries that will be based on Tabaui, and the hiring of employees that will work there. We will follow the protocols that you will enact regarding this matter. Also, may we request that all of our employees/workers will work there will be Martilians?? They will have no problems with housing as the Oil Platforms, Derricks and Refineries that will be built will have quarters for them. We hope you accept this deal.

Yours, truly,
