Short History- The United Socialist States of Augarundus (AKA: The Communist Reich of Augarundus) is a rather recent scourge of man. It is descendant of the long-lasting Holy Empire of Augarundus, which lasted for 700 years as a theocratic absolute monarchy. However, at the peak of the Holy Augarian Empire less than 80 years ago, the Communist party of Augarundus (UAPFS or, as it is called in Augarundus, Uapfz: United Augarian Peoples' Free Socialist Party) began the first Augarian Purging, the Purging of State. In this inquisition, those deemed corrupt in the government were sentenced to death by firing squad (the casualty count numbered nearly a quarter of a million statesmen and civilians). Three years later, the Purging of Doubt occurred in which rebellious minds were quenched by death in which nearly double the original amount died. Two years later, the greatest of all the purging, the Purging of Faith, commenced. In this purging, nearly three million Catholics (the primary religion being, until this time, Catholicism) were slaughtered, whilst the others converted to the new state religion, Catholic Apostasy (the State declaring its great hatred for "God").

Since then, Augarundus has sought nothing more than to become the ultimate instigator. Whilst not conquering other nations (though small sections of nearby Gratzovka and Temeev have fallen and, at times, all of Temeev has become the Augarian Commonwealth of Temeev), Augarundus has made a habit of threatening its neighbors with ominous military marches and displays of power, as well as vague threats.

On this day, the country seems to think only of war. All residents between ages 18-25 are required to serve in the military, galvinizing the already strengthened institution.

Energy sources:
1) Nuclear Energy (fission and fusion, but primarily fusion) makes up 78% of the energy supply; most plants are in the few surviving rural areas. Uranium is found throughout Augarundus. Fusion is primarily used for creating electricity, and fission is the source of Augarundus' large supply of WMDs (WMD's make up a dangerously high portion of Augarundus' total weapons count, and the only type of WMD more commonly available than nuclear weaponry is biological and chemical weaponry).
2) Automobiles aren't used (all automobiles are exported to other nations, and government paychecks, much like "ration cards", do not allow for personal luxuries like automobiles), so Maglev trains that use magnetic force to propel them combined with a small amount of coal make up 7% of the total energy supply. The coal is rarely imported, and comes from cities like Mutralv (only when imported, this is rare), Kragvolnos, and sometimes Arpentrau.
3) Refined Oil found in areas of Augarundus- mostly rural- makes up 0% of the civilian Augarian energy supply, as it is almost entirely exported. However, it does supply the Augarian military, and, for that reason, must be given a 10% energy supply rating.
4) Geothermal energy makes up the last 5% of energy, and it is only used in the northern regions of Augarundus. It is readily available throughout the usually freezing nation, and the reason behind its lack of use is unknown.

Brief History of all my Countries until the Augarian Purges:

Long after the unification of Gratzovka, Augarian states were locked in permanent war. In 927 AD Kaiser Vladrozkan I took Augaria, the largest Augarian city-state, by force in a peasant uprising against the republic. Immediately setting forth to unify the country, Valdrozkan led a massive army east toward nearby Gratzovka, taking all nearby Augarian cities by force. His military strategy was simple: attack first with archers, bash with massive infantry lines, and flank the backs with cavalry. He was only once defeated at the battle of Mutralv, but later slaughtered the entire army there.

Creating an Eastern Augarian superstate simplified the issue of taking the rest of the city-states: swarm them with thousands of troops. Taking the western country proved even easier than the first, and Vladrozkan had become Kaiser of the Augarian Empire.

However, Augarundus was flanked by three other nations: powerful Gratzovka to the east, advanced Temeev to the west, and regal Proleshkavya to the north. Being a smaller nation, Proleshkavya was first to fall to the war machine, but Vladrozkan died of plague before he could take action against the minuscule nation.

His son, Arpentren I led a small force to Proleshkavya, assaulting the mountainous nation. His powerful Gothic infantry were smashed by the few but elite Proleshyen cavalry and strategically placed archers. However, after scaling the mountains of Proleshkavya (aka: Proleshka), Augarian troops were allowed to swarm into the valley below, slaughtering at will.

Before they could reach the capitol, however, Arpentren received word Gratzovkans were invading from the east, smashing through Augarian borders in a preemptive strike. Riding to the bulk of his forces, Arpentren began pressing eastward toward the Gratzovkan capitol city of Rivanos. Both nations were fiercely Catholic, but marched under different characteristically unique crosses: Augarundus under the cold black-and-silver cross, the Schlaufrenzen, whilst Gratzovka marched under the scarlet banner of the Patrovka.

Arpentren also sought to expand westward, pressing another army into Temeev, and building a massive fleet in the south to cut off the Gratzovkan supplies from island states off the coast. Expanding in all directions, the Holy Empire of Augarundus had firmly established its role as a regional instigator.

Meanwhile, Proleshyen troops had finally pressed the Augarian army southward toward the border, where skirmishes were rampant. By 1015, Rivanos of Gratzovka was under siege, and Temeev was crushed entirely. However, Gratzovkan forces thoroughly annihilated the Augarian second army in Rivanos, nearly capturing Arpentren in the process. A quick deal for peace between Temeev, Augarundus, and Gratzovka was made, though Proleshkavya was continually under siege for years to come.

The treaty was broken continuously until 1734, when Augarundus achieved the most powerful army in the region. The massive force, 3.5 million strong, marched in Augaria in the capitol of Scarlet Square for Kaiser Wilhelm XII of Augarundus, a powerful display. Temeev was conquered, once again, in days by the force, and Proleshyen armies were thoroughly routed. Gratzovkan forces were quickly battered as the Seventh Army, under the commands of High General Khadgrodvosk and Kronprinz Vladmitrov, advanced toward Rivanos. The siege of Rivanos lasted nine years until 1748, when a Temeevi uprising weakened Augarundus and allowed for the Seventh Army to be completely crushed.

Gratzovka retained its independence, but a Western portion had become to accustomed to Augarian control, it had revolted against the East, creating a civil war. Likewise, Temeev managed to struggle and gain small areas of land back, enough to recreate the Most Serene Republic of Temeev (with the monarchs dead). Gratzovka began to limit the powers of the monarch and created the Federation of Gratzovka.

Proleshkavya still resisted Augarian control, despite being heavily outnumbered.

In 1909, Augarundus attacked the large Gratzovkan colony of Augarutzen, an island originally founded by Augarian farmers. The Augarian troops quickly seized the small nation, establishing a firm dominion there. Diplomacy failed, as the Augarian defense was, quite simply, they were liberating an area of land originally part of their empire (hundreds of years before). War broke out between all superpowers, with Proleshkavya, Gratzovka, and Temeev fighting Augarundus and Augarutzen. Disorder plagued Augarundus and Augarutzen in the latter years of the war, as enemy forces closed in on all sides. In this chaos, however, Fredriskov Ulyov I, a colonel in the Augarian army, seized hold of the capitol in a coup, and effectively eradicated the monarchy (killing them all).

That was the First Purge, the Purging of State, which killed off the original members of the monarch. Under the new communist dictatorship of Augarundus, the Gratzovkans and Temeevis were pushed away, crushed and beaten. Now was time for the black heart of a dark empire to thrive. The political party UAPFS was established to quell thoughts of rebellion in the second Purge, the Purging of Doubt, in which thousands perished for political beliefs.

Finally, the greatest purge was executed, the Purge of Faith. Roman Catholics (any religion, but primarily Catholics) were slaughtered, and the official religion (Catholic Apostasy) was declared. In months millions were dead.

Nonetheless, the Augarian nation continued to grow and flourish under its evil masters. Only once did it falter, when attacking Gratzovka in 1971.

Today, the Communist Imperial Reich of Augarundus continues to launch purges regularly, eradicating those who doubt its totalitarian might. With a growing population of over 1 billion (including Augarutzen and, on occasion, the conquered "Commonwealth" of Temeev) it is a world power to be recognized.
