This year was a big year for Celdstane, as they held their 31st annual Motor Show.
New launches were:
CELSAN AFESTRA - Basically a facelift, the Afestra hatchback, sedan and wagon got three new engines: a 1.4-litre 75bhp (8-valve), a 1.8-litre/125bhp turbo and an all-new 1.9-litre/120bhp FSDi turbodiesel.
There's no changes with regard to the trim levels, other than a new entry-level basic E version available - and this only gets the 1.4-litre 75bhp 8-valve petrol engine, and comes as either a five-door hatchback or wagon.
CELSAN MZT - Celsan's mid-size car got redesigned for the 2009 model year. Available in sedan or wagon bodystyles, it gets a new eco-friendly 2.0-litre/125bhp Eco 4-cylinder version, positioned below the 2.4-litre/136hp 4-cylinder and 3.3-litre/147hp V6 petrol engines. The diesel line-up is changed; a new 2.2-litre/115hp 4-cylinder turbodiesel (badged 2.2 dCTi) joins the line-up alongside the 2.4-litre/128hp 4-cylinder turbodiesel (the 2.4 TDi 130). Trim levels and prices are yet to be announced, but expect high levels of refinement and comfort.
CEVAN BALIZE GOL - Cevan was recently bought out by VLT but their VW-influenced product thinking continues with this supermini. Available in three- and five-door hatchback, four-door sedan and wagon bodystyles, this has a choice of 1.0-litre/55bhp, 1.4-litre/75bhp, 1.4-litre/84bhp FSI and 1.6-litre/90bhp 4-cylinder petrol engines, plus a 1.9-litre/75bhp diesel engine.
The name means "goal" in Portuguese, not counting gol afterward, which means the same thing. It's economical, fun to drive and cheap. Exports have begun, although, not to our region yet. Cevan weren't forthcoming with details on it, so we'll have to wait for it before a full review's out.
CEVAN ATOR - This new family sedan from Cevan was on show, and no details were given on it, other than it had a 1.6-litre/125bhp 4-cylinder petrol, and was available as a sedan. However, if/when it goes into production, things may change. Ator means golf in Portuguese, so is this car a direct rival for the imported Volkswagen Golf? We shall see.
SFW-RENAULT CLIO - SFW-Renault's locally-made version of the European supermini is set to get a facelift for 2009, so the range is trimmed down to the 1.0 16v Flexifuel RL, 1.2 RN, 1.4 RT and 1.6 RXE versions.
SFW-Renault weren't showing us their new version yet, but we heard unofficially that it was set to be better than the current car.
VLT LLFHS - Well, not what we expected from VLT, but Astholm's franchise of the brand proposed this sporting sedan concept car. The LLFHS isn't a random string of letters, as you'd expect - but German for "luxury performance car". It's powered by a 3.2-litre/245bhp V6 engine which is extremely fast and powerful. A spokesman for the brand's local importer said that "it was a possibility", but negotiations with VLT had not yet started, so it may well just be a concept car.
That was Day 1... we will give you more from Day 2 tomorrow.
*UPDATE: Celdstane Motor Show is offering 20% off its £250 ticket price to the first 10 people who post here with their reviews of the new cars they saw!
