Today a patrol of Gendarme Military Police was attacked with RPGs and gunfire, killing eight of the eleven Gendarmes, injuring two, and killing three and wounding fourteen bystanders.

The Red Brotherhood Proletarian Army (RBPA), a communist terrorist 'revolutionary' organization, has claimed responsability for the attacks, promising "there will be more to come," in an ominous message delivered to the SSP HQ for Provence.

The RBPA has been dormant for several years, ever since they suffered ghastly defeats at the hands of Generalissimo Grimmeberger and Field Marshal Wheeler, and their leaders, Stanley Neniven and Roger Smith, were both captured, with Neniven receiving a life-sentence in prison and Smith being executed.

It is unknown if the RBPA is in any position to follow through with its threat of 'more to come,' but the Captain-Governor of Provence has placed the province on high alert, ordering the deployment of 40,000 Grey Coat Paramilitaries.

What everyone feared has occured: major strikes by a resurgent RBPA have occured in multiple cities.

Strikes have been reported in Marseilles, Toulouse, Ravenna, Padua, Naples, Mobile, Pensacola, Independence City (Philadelphia), Sevastopol, Krakow, Stockholm, Berlin, Bucharest, Ankara, Edessa, Tel Aviv, Elphantine, Madrid, Barcelona, Cincinnatti, Cleveland, and Charles Towne. Generalissimo Grimmeberger has declared a state of emergency, and is ordering a full re-mobilization of the Grey Coat Paramilitaries, and the dispatch of Generals Lazlo Thokoly and Hranislav Duvnjak to supress the activity in Greater Germany and the Balkans, while Generals Andrew Spiro and Gregory Collins to supress the risings in the Americas.

At this point, the RBPA had rallied its supporters, including the old Republican Guard against their old nemesis: Generalissimo Steven Grimmeberger and his National Federalist forces. The Crimea had quickly fallen to the RBPA, and "Ol' Bastion" Sevastopol were held by the resurgent Reds, as were the mountains of West Virginia in America. A few of the Balkan provinces were tottering, and to all intents and purposes, Aquitaine, Catalonia, Provence, Navarre, Syria, and Sicily were warzones. Resistance had erupted again in eastern Germany and Eastern Poland, Egypt, Louisiana, and Ohio.

So, on March 31st, 2009, at 0100 hours, Operation Inquisition was launched. In Europe, a new commander had been appointed to spearhead the assault into Poland. He was a man who knew the land well, and his enemy even better. For who would know the RBPA better than a man who had been one of them from the beginning?

Field Marshal Stanley Neniven looked down at the Parole and Return to Service Order in his hand. It had the Generalissimo's signiture. Behind him, the 11th Armoured Division Jan Hus continued its advance. They were only twenty miles from the RBPA's advanced positions along the Vistula. He grinned nastily.

"Для моєї країни*, jackasses," he muttered.

The first of the 11th Hussites smashed headlong into the Vistula lines, and the RBPA proceeded to eat tank fire. They returned fire with RPGs, machine guns, and small arms fire, and even a few mortar or artillery pieces. Unfortunately, due to the lack of any bridges still standing, the 11th couldn't actually cross and maul the stupid Reds. Neniven shook his head ruefully, thinking about the Communist positions. Poor stupid fucks. If only you knew...

OOC: Read the stickies (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=543994) and learn to RP properly. You can't have a military that is 1/3 of your population.

OOC: Prepare for a long OOC rant that is probably out of place, but will undoubtedly make me feel better, regarding your loose grip on logisitics and proportions.

True, but they did not ever reach 1/3 of your population. If you were to enlist (read "draft") 1/3 of your population, the following would, in fact, be true:

1) The majority of those troops would be very, very low quality. (poor equipment, skeletal training, etc.) I learned this sort of thing in my first RP, except that it was 7% of my military, and such problems would have been rampant (I changed it quickly). I shudder to think of the problems a military that comprises a third of a nation's population would have.

2) The British maintained that number for the span of about two-three years, during the height of the war, and even then, I am positive it never reached 1/3 of the population. At least half of your population will either be too old, young, or sick to fight, ignoring whether or not you enlist women. If you don't enlist women, that number of non-combatants will be even higher. Fuirthermore, the amount of people in the military (and thus, not in the regular workforce) would cause your economy to implode, and so you could not maintain such numbers of forces for more than a few years, during a state of emergency, much less in peace time as a standing force.

Depending on whether or not you have a navy, such a massive manpower drain would wreck your economy even faster. (ignoring the cost it takes to maintain war machines.)

3) Nowhere near that many will be COMBAT personnel. It would involve ghastly logistics problems to have a sixth of that being combat personnel, and, again, they would be rather poor quality. Furthermore, most transportation systems would be stretched to breaking trying to provision and continuously supply that many people.

4) You cannot practically invade me with your entire military force. For no other reasons than the logistical ones highlighted above. My infrastructure (and I'm pretty sure not yours) is meant to handle a 12 million man army on campaign. Apart from that, your army would move very slow (and thus, would be a sitting duck, for this and other reasons again mentioned above) and you would be leaving no defending army in your country, which means not only would your massive, slow-moving army be a sitting duck, so would your entire country.

If you read the stickies and address any other problems you find in your nation based on the information therin, we would be happy to have you as a part of this roleplay, but until then, your posts will be ignored.
Seriously, though, if you're going to threaten someone (IC'ly, OOC'ly, anywhere), for God's sake, do it right.

In the light of our current situation, most of your offered help is approved, with the exception of your naval assets: they are unnecessary, and due to the current weakness of the Federal Navy at this time, the prescence of a stronger naval force in our waters makes us rather uncomfortable. We would also prefer it if your troops would restrain themselves from causing undue devestation to the area occupied by the Reds: we aim to retake and keep the area, not destroy it.

Neniven snorted. He read the message sent to him from Grimmeberger. It was hand-written, and Stanley could recognize his old friend's messy scrawl anywhere.

It read:

Dear Stanley,

There are a few important things I need to address, ol' buddy.

1) I don't think you would even consider betraying the nation (not even close to likely Stanley thought) even in spite of your ideological leanings. That said, for the sake of not being misunderstood: the RBPA is a threat to the Federation's safety. Eliminate the threat.

2) I'm sorry about the whole prison thing. Yes, that's right, I just apologized. The Great Grimmeberger humbled. Anyway, if you show the slightest hint that you're about to tilt back to your old affiliation, I really will throw you back in there, and this time I won't let you out. That said, if you pull this off, consider yourself off-the-hook.

3) Preparations are going well in Germany and the Balkans. I think Hranislav is getting a little over-eager. I think he needs to start blasting the enemy or he'll go stir-crazy. Go figure.

4) I trust you are still familiar with domus dulces domes?

"I see y'all's artillery there," he muttered as a few Red field guns were being brought up. Hah! he thought with all the disdain of an old artillery officer. Field guns. What is this? The Great motherfucking War?! He glanced at his majordomo, Master Sergeant Grylls. "Grylls, I want those field guns to find themselves on some motherfucking battle two hundred years in the past. Clear?"
"Crystal, sir."

The field guns preceeded to take mortar and rocket fire. There weren't field guns for much longer.

Over Fanboyist Skies
The flight of 4 C-14 Star Lifters, escorted by 6 F-47 Cyclone fighters, flew over Federation skies. There, they radioed in:
"Attention Federation Air Control, this is the Comorostani advance force. Were do you want us to land?"

Off the Coast
A cluster of transport ships, escorted by four Governor-class cruisers, sailed towards Federation coast. There they would land and disgorge their cargo. The transports would return to Comorostan, and the warships, including the Keefer-class aircraft carrier Purity, would remain offshore to provide support.

The control tower at Vienna radioed back immedietely.

"You're clear to land at the airfields outside Vienna, Warsaw, and Rome. Those areas are still secure."

OOC: I'm going to be off for a little bit. Empire Total War beckons.

Task Force 77 set off for Fanboyists, led by Rear Admiral Roberto Pradaf II on the destroyer Kent. The 1,400 Guards, led by Colonel Talc, were in the 4 transports.

So far, Col.General Hranislav Duvnjak's insurgency-suppression campaign in Anatolia was going quite well. The enemy had barely put up a fight, and had fled, tail between legs, to boats waiting to spirit them away to their bastion in the Crimea. The remaining pockets of resistance were surrendering in large numbers, which, according to Grimmeberger's orders, they were required to accept.

Which was, of course, why the blood-thirsty Croat was in such a foul mood. He watched as detachments from Armoured Division 6 Albrecht von Wallenstein and Armoured Divison 7 Frederick von Starhemmburg blast a Red position with cannonfire from eight tanks. The units that he commanded, at this point, were, like the commander, full Croat. Well, actually, that wasn't true. Armoured Division Justinian was Romanian, or, what was generally identified within the Federation (as it had in ancient Rome) as Thracian. And they were tough bastards.

So far, the Reds in Anatolia had lost 11,000 insurgents, about 9,000 of whom were captured or injured. The rest were dead.

The last of the Comorostani units were now offloaded at Warsaw and Vienna. They moved to link up outside the city of Berlin, where they would receive their marching orders. The forces consisted of some 180,000 men and some 240 tanks.

Meanwhile, Brigadier-General Justin Camillus watched his boys in action. He was the commander of the Grey Coat Paramilitaries in the province of Carolina. And so far, a general ass-kicking was in the works in the streets of Knoxville. Nashville (Grimmeberger's native city) had been secured a few weeks ago. And now, in Knoxville (and simultaneously in Memphis) the Reds were just getting their asses handed to them by the Grey Coats, just as they had once before, the last time their activity had flared up.

An explosion belched out an alley two hundred yards ahead and to the left, and the AC-290 "Husky" armoured car, with three accompanying militia men, immedietely began targeting the Red's AT gun that had been established in the alley. Soon, it was belching smoke and flame instead, as a few shells from the Husky and a few grenades from the landsergrenadiers literally shredded the insurgents in seconds. Even at this distance, it was easy to tell that the insurgent's equipment far out-classed the Grey Coat's equipment. The Reds had AK-47s and Dragonov rifles, but the Greys were returning fire with FN 1949's, or occasionally, a Mauser K1898. They were making do with the attached rifle-grenade launchers. Their SAWs were MG-42's. They lacked body armour, wearing only the grey great coats that gave them their nicknames, and ranger-hats (think the classic park ranger hat), all in grey. The only thing truely modern about their equipment were their communications and the Huskies, and the Husky was a nasty peice of work. It was only an armoured car in the configuration of its means of movement: wheels instead of treads. Otherwise, the term "tank destroyer" would have been more apt, as it mounted a 88 mm gun, which, when loaded with AT rounds, was one of the nastier things to get hit with in a fixed position. The IFV variant mounted duel 10 mm guns, which were better for gunning down individual Reds.

As it stood, the Reds were being bled...(heh heh) white, in Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi. Tuscaloosa had never even been contested, and the duel for Birmingham was brief and, if anything, rather amusing for Brig.General Camillus. The RBPA had lost over 2000+ men in Birmingham (most of whom were dead), while the Greys had lost about 100 men, most of whom were only injured bad enough to require attention. It had been similar in Nashville, and Jackson and Meridan hadn't even put up a fight. So far, the Reds in the south were only holding onto Biloxi, Knoxville, and Memphis. Things were going well in The General's home state.

The last of the Comorostani units linked up near Berlin. Col. Arnold Taylor, in command, sent the following message.
"This is the Comorostani force. We are requesting the location of the nearest communist holdings, that we may crush them."

Meanwhile, flights of Zeus bombers began roaming the Federation, searching out targets of opportunity.

Col.General Hranislav Duvnjak was waiting for the Colonel in Berlin, ready to help give him instructions.

Grimmeberger's assessment of "that blood-thirsty Croat" was fairly good. He was intensely bored. He was an ardent nationalist, and utterly despised communism (as did most of the upper ranking government and military officers in the Federation), and was quite professional in demeanor, except in the thick of battle, where he seemed like he would have been more at home in ages past when berserkers charged into the thick of battle, axes shining. He was in his mid-thirties, the average age of medium-lower ranking CO's in the Federal Armed Forces. He was of somewhat stocky build, much like the Generalissimo, but sported close-cropped dirty-blond hair and a blond mustache (think Bismark-style), and was quite fit (all Federal officers were required to be as fit as, if not fitter, than their men).

"Colonel Taylor! Welcome to the sunny Federation!" he greeted heartily. "I hear you've come to help me make the Red the color of the rebel bastions as well as the color of evil!" He continued.
"We've cleared the fuckers out of Zagreb, but they still got Ragusa, Belgrade, Bucharest, Thessaloniki, and Sofia. You'll be working with me and my Croat boys!" he informed the colonel simply. "You'll be aiding us on the eastern thrust into Thrace, while we sweep on the west through Ragusa, meeting up at Thessaloniki, and closing the pocket of Belgrade and Sarajevo in the final push."
