Alright, before I begin, I'd like to give a warning. The RP, if I get enough interest for it, will have mature, and oft disturbing themes, though it won't be evident for a little while. So if you are offended by horror movies, do not sign up, as this is heavily influenced by horror, mostly Psychological.
So with that out of the way, the basic premise of this RP is based around a book that I'm in the middle of writing. Well, starting, anyways. The purpose of this RP, is both for me to recieve constrtuctive critcism, as well as test out some of my ideas. The idea is, I'll admit, extremely cliche. A mansion, although this one shiny and new, rather than falling apart from years of disuse, is said to be haunted, althoug it lacks the bloody past usually associated with such places. Two skeptic young girls decide to investigate the place as a joke, and all manner of things follow. As I said, very cliche, yet this one will have a twist. (Yes, I know, everyone says that. I mean it) There will be a list of characters open for people to RP as, and once that list is filled, sign-ups are over. I will conrtol Nina (you'll meet her below) but the rest are open, and you are free to develop their personalities any way you wish. (On a side note, I won't have the character list up until tommorow, as I need to get to bed in a few minutes, and I can't be bothered to do the bio for each character tonight) Below, in the verry first part of the book I have written, the two girls are introduced. As for the rest, the RPers are free to bring them in at any time during the IC thread.
As it always did, Lucy's carefree laugh floated through the air, seemingly making the moonlight brighter, the dark somehow not so oppressive. Where before the branches of the trees had seemed as claws, reaching out to snare the latest victim, her light-hearted laughs turned them to welcoming hands, holding an apple or a flower in greeting. "Haunted? Really, Nina?" She was the only one who called me that, and I loved her for it. Where had my parents ever thought of the name Nineria? It sounded so unbearably old-fashioned. "Isn't that exactly what we're trying to disprove? You remember what we said. We'd show them that the ridiculous rumours are just that, rumours." Despite her happy, no worries attitude, Lucy was rarely foolish, never prone to the flights of fancy that so many happy girls seem subjected to. She had little patience with superstition of any sort, and stories of ghosts and demons made her snort her derision and unleash a tongue-lashing for anyone foolish enough to mouth such in her present. She was a woman of contradictions, Lucy. The sweetest person in the world, normally, she could kick up a storm when angered, and anyone who knew her walked small when she was in one of her infamous black moods. A darling little thing she as, like a little porcelain doll, so perfect and seemingly fragile, yet she claimed she had no time for men, or romance, and she showed any male foolish enough to call her fragile just how she'd earned her black belt in ji-jitsu.
Fortunately, the gleam in her bright blue eyes was one of mirth, right this moment, and there was no hint of anger. Then, there rarely was with me. Its been like that since we first met in this dreary little part of Oregon. After my parents divorced, I opted to live with Lucy's family, rather than have to choose between one parent or another. That made us sisters in her eyes, though we got along better than any sisters I'd ever seen or heard tell of. We were like those friends you see in the heartwarming Holywood movies, about the ones where with friendship you can conquer all. You know the ones. And, after we graduated highschool, we both rented a small house together. It seemed the nautral path, two teenage girls without good steady jobs or a college education. We were both doing the internet schooling thing, she majoring in arts and public speaking, and I in Literature. And recently Lucy had become aware of a rumor circulating around town, about some mansion being haunted. Lucy being Lucy, she found the tale absolutely ridiculous, and I had to agree with her. There wasn't even a decent story behind the rumor, just whispered tales of howls and screams being heard. It belonged to a rich couple as a summer home, though they hadn't used it quite as often in the past couple years as before. They said that they'd recently bought another one in a location they preffered more. Naturally, stories were bound to have sprung up, but after a century or two, when the place was old and desolate, home to naught but shadows and spiders. This home was still new, in perfect condition, and the couple were a perfectly likeable sort, without the arrogance that normally came with money. There was no dark gossip about them, whispered in corners while glancing about, of debauchery or cruelty or anything of the sort.
No, there was absolutely no base upon which the tales could stand, and yet they persisted. Lucy was determined to prove this ghost story at least, was not but over active imagintations, most likely begun by a practical joke on the part of some young lout. And I agreed fully with her, but still..."Well, you never know Lucy. There is a possibility that there really is some sort of ghost or something there. Shouldn't we at least do this during the day?" Most people would have to gird themselves for the inferno that followed for mouthing such around this little girl, yet with me there was nothing but a rolling of her eyes. "Oh come now Nina, surely you haven't fallen for this drivel?" She grinned impishly. "I'll start to think you've gone a bit kooky." She looked ahead through the forest, watching for the first glimpse of the mansion. "As for the day, why would we do that? Everyone says that thet best time to find ghosts is at night. So, if we don't find any at night, at the place that everyone agrees simply must be haunted, they'll have no choice but to admit that these stories are naught but superstition." I rolled my eyes at her, and she giggled. She knew as well as I do all the holes in this plan. Really, she was just doing this for fun. Flight she was not, but there was little more she loved than a bit of excitement, a very rare commodity in our little town.
"Okay." She admitted with a smile. "It won't happen like that. But won't it be great, the looks on their faces when they realize we spent the whole night in there, and come out with not so much as a hair in dissaray?" She let out another of her wonderful laughs, and I couldn't help but join her. I mean, I really was being silly. "Ghosts? The very idea of me believing in that nonsense set me to laughing all the harder. I reall must have been going kooky, for entertaining such thoughts. "You're right." I said aloud. "Of course I am," she said with that lovely smile of hers, "I'm always right, didn't you know?" She laughed again, and began skipping down the forest path, humming happily to herself. Probably at the thought of the shocked faces. Lucy loved shocking and surprising people almost as much as much as a bit of excitement, and that was really quite saying something. Then again, to her, they were probaly one and the same. She lived for her little adventures, and they nearly always ended up with someone gasping and and choking from a sudden shock, or the widening of the eyes at seeing this little doll doing what none of them had before dared.
I chuckled softly under my breath, and quickened my step in order to keep up with her. Even in private, I somehow had never been able to match Lucy's exuberant and carefree attitude. It seemed almost a talent for her, to be able to shed inhibition and self-consciousness alike, to have fun in any way she pleased, no matter who was watching her, or what they thought. Not that she'd ever given a fig for what other people though. I'd never been able to do that, always worried about looking foolish, indeed, not wanting to be noticed at all. That being said however, I was at my wildest when by her side, though that really isn't saying a whole lot. So, I shook my head, and began skipping alongside her, and found I actually enjoyed the feeling, of my hair being brushed by the reaching branches, the wind blowing my hair up and down in time with my hops. It was a strangely exhilirating feeling. So, we skipped along together grinning and giggling all the while whilst we chatted amiably about unimportant things, about the bills that were to come, the news and weather, boys (we glossed over that one fairly quick) and several other things not really bearing mention.
Suddenly we both came to a stop, eyes fixed ahead on the mansion ahead. It really was much more intimidating in the night, as the normally pristine white paint seemed faded and sickly, and as the old couple had stopped coming, the caretaker slowly stopped paying attention to his work, accepting the checks mailed him every month and living comfortably while the lawn grew unmanaged, till it was scraggly and weed filled. Despite myself, I gulped and glanced over at Lucy, relieved to find her just as hesitant looking as I felt. "Uhm...maybe we should do this tommorow." I mumbled. Of course, I should have expected she would simply scowl, and with the air of one about to do battle, strode purposefully towards the mansion, muttering angril, probably berating herself for having hesitated in the first place. Sighing morosely to myself, I set out after her, asking why I just had to speak up. I should have known that would only make her all the more determined, and now there was nothing for it but to continue on.
So, if this at all interests you, and you keep the warning above in mind, you are more than welcome to join, and offer your criticism for my writing, which will be much appreciated.
